1. In order to adopt my kid from Guatemala, I had to prove who I was, go through a thorough background check, and I was fingerprinted every six months (not sure why--do fingerprints change? Mystery).

2. Also to adopt my kid, the birthmom and the kid had to have DNA testing to prove that she was adopting out her own kid, and not trafficking somebody else's kids.

3. Filing the paperwork and the various legal maneuvers cost about $36K. It also took over six months.

4. Seems like I should have simply walked on down there, grabbed a kid, and crossed the border going north. Would have saved a lot of money, time and trouble.

To heck with these supposed bleeding hearts that put me through all of that but are not willing to do the same to protect my kid now.

I think that you do not realize that currently, Federal Law MANDATES that anyone who comes across the border, even those crossing illegally, have to be given a Court Hearing if they make a claim for Asylum. We are talking about Respecting the Law, well I don't think it's a good law, but right now, THAT IS THE LAW.

That's the reason Cruz said that - until that law is changed, that HAS to be done under our laws.

I think a lot of you are just waking up to how screwed up our laws have been on this matter, and they have been for a long time. But you can't say "Obey The LAW!" when it is the Law itself that is the problem, which is the case here. We have got to be a lot more clever than that.

They need to show the American people that they are compassionate, otherwise they will lose big this fall, and Trump will not be able to get his agenda pushed through.

They really need to address this issue quickly.
I hope something can be put before Trump next week.
If Congress doesn't do this, then I fear the Democrats will make big strides, and maybe even take over the House.

That's a harsh way of putting it, but that is EXACTLY what Cruz's bill is proposing, with this twist - he will double the number of immigration judges, with the goal of holding a hearing on any asylum claim within 14 days of it being made. With enough manpower, there is no reason this cannot be done. And if their claim of asylum is found to be without merit, they are shipped back to their country of origin immediately.

It is also a nitpick in the immigration thing. Resolve it and get media away from it. Then get back to the real work of enforcing the laws on immigration and getting the wall built.

Even I wouldn't read the separation stories bcz of my heart for kids, I knew it'd cloud my thinking. The resistance media do not paint fair or honest pictures.

I am hugely late to this thread but that's exactly what I've been thinking. They can want Trump to be constrained by the law or they can want Trump to disregard the law when they think it's stupid and cruel.

They can't have both. But Obama got them used to the idea of president as benign (in their view) dictator. I didn't think he was at all benign, but they hate me so that's OK with them.

I understand better than I ever used to how the left inevitably turns authoritarian.
