26 I'd like to recommend Trump tie this latest immigration nonsense to NAFTA and his recent pressure on the G7. Tell everyone he is compassionate, so until congress adjusts the law, he'll follow Mexico's lead, and we'll bus the immigrant families north to the Canadian border and drop them off there. I'm sure dreamy Trudeau wouldn't turn thousands of refugees away....right?

I don't like what I've seen of this girl's oeuvre so far, and yes she seems insane, but part of what artists do is push boundaries.

Posted by: josephistan at June 20, 2018 09:50 AM (7HtZB)

Depends on what one means by pushing boundaries. Art must be original, so in that sense all artists push boundaries. There is also something valuable to be found in mining a genre, a style, a well-trodden path, and DISCOVERING something new within it.

My go to example for that is blues music. There is a structure, not unlike a sonnet, where the artist, within that structure, creates his own, usually by putting himself into it, so the notes, the chords, the movement, the structure, it is instantly familiar, and yet unique.

That's boundary pushing, paradoxically within a very tight box.

Yep. First, only a small minority of people in this country watch the 24 hour news channels (maybe 5% of voters? probably not that high) and out of that more people now watch Fox on any hour of night or day than watch CNN and MSNBC combined.

346 Honest question here.

The left loves them some threatening to murder people who think differently than they do. Why isn't pre-emptive self defence legal?

If somebody breaks into my home threatening to murder I would generally have the right to protect myself. I know I wouldn't if I live in the U.K. and possibly not in Canada. But I certainly would have that right in the U.S.

Isn't threatening to kill me on Twitter a form of breaking into my home and threatening to kill me?

Death threats on Twitter seem like a very serious crime but it's a game for lefties. Why are they allowed to get away with it?

And how come the scum in the Democratic Party are never even asked to repudiate their lunatics?

378 Teem, Since I think you want serious answers, here goes:

"Isn't threatening to kill me on Twitter a form of breaking into my home and threatening to kill me? "

No. Breaking into your home requires physical force. That's a huge dividing line. To be a "real threat" under the law, the person threatened has to have a true and rationally justified belief that the threat is actually going to be carried out. Trash Talk does not count, even in person.

"Death threats on Twitter seem like a very serious crime but it's a game for lefties. Why are they allowed to get away with it?"

It's not a serious crime because it's all seen as Trash Talk, stay off twitter and you won't be bothered by it. And it's allowed because Twitter is a left wing cesspool and it's entire PURPOSE is to make you feel like shit. Accept that. Act accordingly.

"And how come the scum in the Democratic Party are never even asked to repudiate their lunatics?"

398 378 Teem, Since I think you want serious answers, here goes:

Now that's too easy. How could the leadership repudiate themselves?

Never let it be said that baseball managers are not dumb, because most of them are.

Baseball is, and always will be, a game of math. You score more runs than your opponent, and you win. You give up fewer runs than your opponent, and you also win.

So... take a guy like Mike Schmidt. He was one of the all time greats, not just because produced runs, but as a flawless defender at third, he prevented many more than a typical third baseman.

So... you take him late in his career, and he's not quite the slugger he once was, he's not quite the defender he once was. If you put him at first base, you are TWICE OVER causing harm to your team. You are taking away his defense, and you are putting at first a guy who is at that point in his career no better than an average hitter... for a first baseman, but ABOVE average for a third baseman.

Managers are dumb though. I had to look it up... John Felske.

That is so stupid. They cause inflated food prices by the entitlements they get. Like a swarm of locusts, they reduce supply. A saner way to save money would be to kick out the illegals, which would cut entitlements, even if it involved an increase in certain prices. At least in that case people have a choice of what they want to spend on, instead of being forced to make up the difference between what employers can get away with *not* paying the illegal. In that case, we're basically forced to subsidize a bunch of businesses whose products we never use. That's also why bailouts are evil.

451 However.. it was most refreshing seeing players playing the game as it was designed. I saw a guy get a hit, and the outfielder went over, the shortstop went over, and the throw went RIGHT to the shortstop, who was perfectly in line for the cutoff.

It was so beautiful.

MLB has, if anything, a curse of too much talent. Too much talent, but not enough respect for the fundamentals of the game.

I know what you mean. It's always what made little-league games so interesting to me during the time my son was playing.

Strip away (most) egos, and watch a bunch of people who rely 80-90% on remembering rules and fundamentals instead of power and strength, and it gets really good. Teamwork is the only way to win.

Paul Butterfield was American, IIRC. I saw him play in Calgary just weeks before he died.

We have an independent league that plays not far from here. I keep meaning to get over there (it's across the river... which river? THE river), but I figure if I can get into the league, I can replace my dying interest in MLB with something I can actually enjoy.

I was trying to do some research on it to educate my liberal wife, but le google is only showing latest stories. As far as I'm concerned, this entire thing started in earnest when the fight ramped up a month ago over the border wall. When it was announced that some portions of the wall were finally started in San Diego area, the left started screaming. Then Sessiions came out and announced the zero tolerance policy for those illegally entering the country and that is when the proverbial crap hit the fan. The Dems and the left, who ALWAYS have a file full of ammo waiting to be used, called up the coordinated groups to start the protests and screaming charges of ripping kids away from their mothers, etc.

It's their counter attack on the Trump administration for being tougher on the border. It's been sitting somewhere waiting for the signal.

In some ways, MLB is like men's tennis. The big hitters and the speed with which they serve up the ball is ruining it. It takes away from the strategy and the depth of knowledge that must be applied to game play.

I kinda lost interest in wimminz tennis (not coincidentally when the gals started getting bigger and manlier), but it's still a much more interesting game. And not just because I like watching the gals in skimpy outfits.

Remember this, though. The outrage screaming and organized public tantrums Do. Not. Change. Policy.

They are a pretext for politicians to do what they want in spite of what they promised to do to get elected.

Often the are coordinated to allow those weasels to do what they have quietly promised their friends they would do in opposition to what they promised publicly.

That is both really depressing (we hired traitors to betray us), and really heartening, (it only works if we let it)
