Ted Cruz Shares 7 MAJOR Victories For ConservativesFascinating Idea The New York City Subway Is Beyond Repair This is an ambitious plan to change it. I think he's about 80% there. The idea of subterranean scooters is stupid, but I could definitely see how a non-train based system could work. The way I picture it is this: electric cars, centrally controlled by computer. 2 lanes each way, a merging on/off lane and an express lane. Each station is a third lane outside the other two. A passenger enters the station, gets on the front car, and punches in their destination. The car leaves the station, gets in the merge lane, merges into the express lane and travels directly to the desired station, where it merges off. There would have to be more to it, but that's the basic idea. Clean, quiet direct subway transportation. Never happen though. There's no way New York could survive w/o its subway during the transition period. Still, if I was designing a system from scratch, I'd take a close look at the concept DC Joins Marvel DC is turning their Vertigo imprint into SJW comics From the article, the new books are, respectively: Anti-American, Feminism, Anti-American, LITERALLY WHO, Feminism, LBGTQWTF, Anti-Christian.Sounds like a blast. an oldie but a goodie:
President Clinton's secretary, Betty Currie, told investigators that Clinton sometimes met privately with Monica Lewinsky but coached Currie to say otherwise, according to New York Times sources. Specifically: 1) Clinton testified in the Paula Jones case that he didn't recall ever having been alone with Lewinsky, but that if he had been, it was strictly for official business. 2) Currie says that the next day, Clinton summoned her and pitched her an account of his relationship with Lewinsky by posing and answering leading questions, e.g., "We were never alone, right?" But, contrary to Clinton's account, Currie says he and Lewinsky were sometimes alone, though she doesn't know whether they had a sexual relationship. (The Washington Post's source described Currie's report of the meeting somewhat differently: "Clinton probed [Currie's] memories ... to see whether they matched his own." He "told Currie she had always been in earshot whenever he was with Lewinsky and asked if that was right. She answered yes [but] later told investigators that she was not physically in the room with them at all times.") 3) Currie has supplied investigators with a dress, brooch, and hatpin that Clinton gave to Lewinsky. 4) According to what Lewinsky reportedly told investigators, Clinton advised her that if she didn't have these gifts in her possession, she could avoid having to turn them over to the authorities. Soon thereafter, Currie took possession of the gifts. A source close to Clinton told the Post that Clinton "was trying to confirm the accuracy of his own memory, not coaching Currie about what she should say." http://www.slate.com/articles/briefing/the_weekthe_spin/1998/02/_4.html Posted by: mallfly the Georgia Peach at June 15, 2018 09:47 PM (KxbBq) 8

Evening Horde!
Long time Catholics are well aware that many of our Bishops and Priests have failed to raise their voices when necessary over the years. We do what we can and vote with our feet to try to find a home Parish that holds to tradition. For the life of me I cant figure out why open and unfettered immigration seem to be in vogue right now. You'd think every now and again the staff could hold to the pro-life aspects of our faith instead. I don't think that is too much to ask. But no, it is not as important as allowing anyone into our country in all circumstances. Posted by: Tonypete at June 15, 2018 10:08 PM (9rIkM) 69

Sorry about the boat mess, WD. I have a 29' stinkpotter, and keep it in the slip in St. Pete, FL. I went by it one day after not using it for about a week, and the stern was almost all the way underwater. Caused a helluva mess.
Got the offending improperly placed and leaky plug replaced, got the cabin brought to brand new with a $200 detail. Also, stopped in at the Marina office and let them know how unhappy I was that were not checking the perma slipped docks enough to let me the gal was sinking among straining ropes. Got two months of slip rental credited from that, right around $700. Posted by: Calm Mentor at June 15, 2018 10:11 PM (I16G8) 78

Is the quoted Catechism pre-Vatican II or post-Vatican II? The whole idea that Catholics might respect Islam as an equal belief was a result of Vatican II and kind of forgot a hell of a lot of fighting between Catholics and muslims throughout the years, largely because of muslims.

73 That Robert Lewis Dabney quote is a bunch of whoha.
First you take someone who is not conservative and label them a conservative, and then you point out all the things they do that is not conservative. Thus you have discredited conservatism and you have redefined the meaning of 'conservative'. Effin word games. Posted by: Skandia Recluse - Alt-Ctrl at June 15, 2018 10:08 PM (roQNm) I've been saying for a long time that the word "conservative" has no meaning. It means a hundred different things to a hundred different people, which is to say it has no meaning at all. And it's absolutely toxic to people who do not consider themselves conservative. That's why I facepalmed when Mitt Romney called himself "severely conservative" in 2012. There was no better way to make undecided middle-of-the-road voters run away screaming. When I was a kid, a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, one of my
many aunts kept a flock of attack geese and when we went to visit (I was still in grade school) those effin geese terrorized me. They bite, they chased me all over the yard, and I got no sympathy from the adults. I think those geese would have killed me if they could have caught me. Vicious animals. those geese. They should be kept in cages and eaten on Sunday. The lady right behind us had a goose, and if you were ever anywhere near that fucker it would chase you down and bite you. I was glad when something tore it up and killed it. Mean, nasty animals, good only to those who would spend the time to cook them. Posted by: dartist at June 15, 2018 10:51 PM (nisXv) 194
One final thought, I was looking at movie trailers for 2018 over on youtube. OMG! What Crap!
Horror movies, which I don't like; don't like being frightened out of my wits - don't think it's fun and entertaining for the whole family. You have to be psychotic to enjoy that. Bloody, gore-filled action movies with no discernable plot. Revenge movies, tired old revenge movies - tired old actors playing the same character they have been playing for fifty years. Animated feature-length movies for adults - cartoons for adults. Seriously! Superhero movies, the ant and the wasp and spiderman XXIV and a VW beetle that transforms into a sensitive and caring robot that has to fight other evil transformer robots for some reason. And there are a whole bunch of Sci Fi fantasy movies that are just not entertaining. It was very disappointing. Posted by: Skandia Recluse - Alt-Ctrl at June 15, 2018 10:51 PM (roQNm) 195

I am no expert on the "Fair" tax either. Some of the ideas are great, but once you get the govt involved in *tweaking* it, well you know what happens. A high sales tax should have to be contingent on a statewide ban/amendment on property taxes. And if the state raised your income taxes, at least they should not be able to I just have a real problem with the idea of the state saying you have to pay them every year or they will confiscate what you already bought and paid for. And I certainly don't want a Value Added Tax in any form. Sure, it may sound like a small amount to tax, say 2%, but that tax gets collected from everyone in the supply chain, so multiplication. What I do want is a flat 10% tax on income coupled with a balanced budget amendment. And that amendment would have some teeth to it, because it'd have an automatic sentence of 10 years in prison for even daring to suggest any deficit spending and 20 years for bringing such a budget to the floor for a vote. If you know where the nude hotness is, you need to share, Bander. And don't say Indiana.
OK, as I've admitted I think the good ones are decommissioned. Nantucket, between Surfside and Miacomet. Internet says access not so much anymore. Martha's Vineyard had two. Gay Head, now called Aquinnah, had amazing natural clay baths that are now off limits due to enviros. Basically you had natural grey and red clay and people would wallow around naked and paint themselves in red and grey stripes. It feels really awesome when the clay dries and squeezes your skin and then you go into the water and it feels awesome when it comes off. The other one on the Vineyard I think still works, Lucy Vincent Beach in Chillmark. Carly Simon lives in Chillmark but I've never seen her there. Echo Lake in Maine had a great one but I went back later and nobody was naked. Jones Beach on Long Island was amazing, the spot where it turned from state to federal land marked the transition to nekkid, but that's gone away. Same with Fire Island. You can still get nekkid with a girl who likes you on a couple of the beaches on the outermost part of Cape Cod, it just takes walking a mile or so, but it's not like being around a bunch of people who are comfortable being nekkid in public. Stop me if I'm oversharing. I'm a fan of nekkid. I have some Krautish implications and I appreciate their free body culture, which also isn't quite what it used to be. My gut says that it would end up either highly regressive or a nightmare or exemptions and fraud that would be no bwtter than the current system. Posted by: BackwardsBoy at June 15, 2018 11:08 PM (HaL55) A consumption tax is regressive in the sense that 10 percent is a bigger chunk for the poor than for the rich. 10 percent of $1000 is significant for the poor and chump change for the wealthy, for example. Hate to bear the bad news, but the teak veneer/laminate woodwork there is pretty much kaput. You can sand and refinish what's there, but the delamination has begun, and there's nothing really able to stop it. At a minimum, you're going to buy a 4'x8' sheet of Teak & Holly top-layered plywood, from which you'll cut out a new cabin sole to install. I would though advise, to also cut out the befouled wood above the sole, up to the same level as the seating throughout the boat. Every cabinet, every locker, every bulkhead. It's not hard then to somewhat "camo" the join-line between the new and old. And instead of trying to scrupulously "match" the new and the old, I'd go for contrasts such as a much darker veneer for that lower 16" or so, or conversely, even a different material altogether, such as using Corian as a vertical surface in those areas. Also, plan on a complete replacement of all the upholstery belowdecks. Cushions and covers alike. It's NOT as bad a job as it seems. Cardboard templates are your friend, and it's like eating an elephant... "one bite at a time", or in your case, one hanging locker, get that done then move onto the galley cabinets, etc. More good news. While you have the old cabin sole finally ejected from the hull, you can freshen, renew or just generally do service on every single component found under said sole. This is a once in a lifetime chance to do "zero hour" maintenance on all of those hidden systems aboard ship. So, do them. Posted by: Bandersnatch at June 15, 2018 11:31 PM (fuK7c) One of Jackson's problems was that he tinkered with every album so much, that by the time they were released and the videos recorded, he was so deep in the red, that they had to have sales of 15M to break even. Jackson was living off the value of the Beatles song rights that he bought when Thriller came out. Not on the income, but he borrowed against the value of it. He had no cash when he died, and his death, like Elvis', got his Estate back into the black and a profit machine again. ... Posted by: joncelli, delivering his speech at June 15, 2018 11:36 PM (1FhAQ) ++++++++ Bingo, this is argument. It boils down to this: - Poor people spend all of their money - Rich people do not spend all of their money As a result of these two facts, the poor person will in all likelihood spend a greater proportion of his total earnings in percentage terms than the rich person will. I am generally fond of the idea of a consumption tax *if*: - Only on the final value of goods and services sold (not a VAT) - Only on *new* goods and services. Taxes have been paid already on used goods. --> This prevents double-taxation and enables an opt-out. If you want to withdraw consent, you can limit your consumption of new goods and services (grow your own food, etc.) - No exceptions. New house? 10%. New car? 10%. New jet for you to fly around? 10%. --> Yes, this would devalue new goods over used to some degree. Those new products better be damn good and built to last. - I am not sure I love the idea of the prebate, but I am open to it. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at June 15, 2018 11:52 PM (hYcqw) 308

Actually Mike H., I found the parallel between Comey's infamous July 2016 press conference, and the IG report.
Fact-heavy presentation of the story, which left no doubt serious crimes were committed (if you know the law and the systems), followed by ..... totally incongruous "but no prosecutor would prosecute" nonsense. IG findings/body of report have the same relationship. But it's worse, in a way. The IG report (haven't finished it) actually buys the rationales given for the "team" not doing almost anything normally done, and obviously logical to do in such a spectacular case of systematic wrong-doing at the very pinnacle of the federal structure. Given how cowardly and unpersuasive this IG report is, I'm not holding my breath that the likely equally brazen criminality involved in the FISA process will be treated seriously in the next one. But Wray is a complete disaster, taking him at his word. Unbelievable. The defiant, snarky Posted by: rhomboid at June 16, 2018 12:37 AM (QDnY+) 346

Am I missing something here? Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop at June 16, 2018 12:53 AM (ndTbZ) Sounds kind of a macro-particle analog to a cyclotron. But if the rocket is attached to, say, a huge Ferris wheel, and spun at a peripheral velocity of 5000 mph, there are going to be huge G-forces on the whole structure. Huge. And the wheel will have to be balanced. If you dump the rocket off the upgoing side of the wheel, you are going to have dump an equal amount of ballast off the downgoing side, or else the wheel will try to tear itself out of its bearings. If it can be made to work at all, I can't see it being used for manned spacecraft, because of the G-forces. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at June 16, 2018 01:07 AM (WFV7d) 378

The Germans called it the "centipede" or had the code name "High Pressure force pump" I believe. It was a multi-chamber gun and they had trouble getting the chambers to fire precisely on schedule. I think they used it to bombard an English port and since it was not mobile, the RAF took it out. V-3 was the designation. Bull was going to build one to get payloads into orbit, had worked one design out in Canada, and figured to use solid state electronics encased in resin or something for the payload. He lost his funding but Sadam Hussein was interested in developing it - either as a long range bombardment weapon or as a satellite launch system, supposedly he had felt the lack of reconnaissance during the Iran-Iraq war. It was to be built into a mountain. Embargo ended that because they couldn't get the high pressure tubing to build it, and Bull wound up being shot in the head. Bull was going to build one to get payloads into orbit, had worked one design out in Canada, and figured to use solid state electronics encased in resin or something for the payload.
Bull didn't use the German multi-chamber idea, though. His gun relied on a mix of powder grains to keep a constant pressure on the projectile. Functionally it wasn't much different than a large naval gun. Posted by: Ace's liver at June 16, 2018 02:06 AM (h2Bdk) 418
Well, I probably conflated the dizzy lizzy with Bull's gun.
However, the things I keep tucked away in my memory: The design suggested in the Spin Launch Inc is probably based on the Baltimore or Winans' Steam Gun, Patented in 1854, used unsuccessfully in the Civil War, and, well, is one of those patented oddities that were tried. https://preview.tinyurl.com/y78udn3v "The possession of this engine--ball-proof, and cased in iron--will give the powers using it such decided advantages as will strike terror to the hearts of opposing forces, and render its possessors impregnable to armies provided with ordinary offensive weapons. 'Its efficiency will soon be practically demonstrated, and the day is not far distant when, through its instrumentality, the new era in the science of war being inaugurated, it will be generally adopted by the Powers of the Old and New Worlds, and, from its very destructiveness, will prove the means and medium of peace. Thanks for giving me something to research. It broke my heart when at a young age I lost faith in my church. When I was homeless, I went back to church. I went to Sts. Peter and Paul Church at 800 Kaheka St, Honolulu, HI 96814. I cried and prayed. Said the Holy Mary prayer in the front of her statue in the back left of the parking lot and put a necklace someone gave me around the statue's neck. I went over to the statue of St Joseph to the back right of the parking lot. Never knew of any prayer for him so just did the Lord's Prayer. At the end of all that, I was exhausted. All during this time, a fellow homeless man named Wes sat and waited for me. So I get done and we walk across the street to Don Quijote. We sat down at one of their outdoor tables. I just collapsed and fell asleep. Wes looked after me the entire time. So I don't know where I was going with this... maybe God answered my prayers by having Wes there. Maybe it all meant nothing. The dioceses will be ruled by caretakers until I can find worthy priests to fill the posts. To the good people who are under this decree I ask them to be patient, we will study your case and restore you to your position if possible. To those who refuse to comply, you will be excommunicated" One can dream, can't one. Ps. That most of the present day bishops are little better than skunks is a result of the "Spirit of Vatican 2". So I'm up having coffee, with some Uruguayan chicharron bread, waiting for the 5:00 a.m. kick-off of the first World Cup match of the day, with three more to follow. First up it's the Frogs vs. the Kangaroos. The 9:00 a.m. game is the best of the day, Argentina vs. Iceland. This is Iceland's first trip ever to the World Cup Finals (they made the European Finals for the first time ever in 2016), so there's a bit of history going on. One announcer said yesterday Icelanders are so excited about the match that about 10% of the island's population will be at the match.
Oh, and for all you haters of soccer/the World Cup, yesterday's 3-3 draw between Portugal and Spain was one of the best World Cup games I've ever watched. Portugal up 1-0 on a PK, then tied 1-1, then up 2-1 just before the half. In the second half, Spain came back to take a 2-3 lead midway through before Ronaldo (the best player in the world at the moment) scored his hat trick on a curling free kick over the wall from just outside the box late in the game to tie. End to end action. A game to watch on replay if you hate the game. You might be surprised. "It's coming on It's coming on It's coming on It's coming on--Football's coming on!" 495 SMH. The entire time I went through grade school pretty much everyone bullied me. Even at times girls. I was younger than any of them for the most part. Being born June 28th is pretty much on the boarder line of when you enter school. Then there was the fact that I've always been on the thin side, smaller. Plus had a Dad that never taught me anything athletic. My Elementary School days were hell. This was in Indiana. So I don't know what your situation was, I know local Hawaiians are brutal to Haoles. I just want you to know you were not suffering alone.

Noah, Iceland's such a surprise they might just surprise Messi and Co. I'm rooting for Iceland to get a result from the match, either a draw or a miraculous win.
Every National team has what is considered their 'golden boys' team, a team that is fondly remembered as the best produced and makes an impact. This is Iceland's golden boys team which I'm sure will be remembered on that island for generations to come. Italy, the Netherlands and Ireland didn't make the World Cup, but tiny (in geography AND population) Iceland did. It's the real 'feel good' story of this tournament (so far). Portugal winning their first ever World Cup with Ronaldo would, of course, overshadow that. Posted by: RickZ at June 16, 2018 04:33 AM (8lsuS) 510

I started watching one hour edited games from the English First Division and the Bundesliga on the local PBS station. I was hooked by age 12, well before soccer moms were a thing. So far, I've seen live: Cosmos-Peru, 1982 (a tune-up for Peru before the Cup Finals that year) USA-Colombia in a small US tournament in 1995; USA-Mexico and Ireland-South Africa in a friendly doubleheader in 2000; Saudi Arabia-Morocco in the 1994 World Cup at the Meadowlands; Ireland-Italy, 1994 World Cup; Mexico-Bulgaria, 1994 World Cup round of 16; Germany-Bulgaria, 1994 World Cup quarterfinals. 1956 was the year of The Hungarian Revolution, when Hungary rose up against the Soviets. It was during this uprising the Hungarians fought Soviet tanks with glass bottles filled with petrol and a rag sticking out, with the rag being lit before being tossed at the tanks, the first use of The Molotov Cocktail.
In the 1956 Summer Olympics, there was the now infamous water polo match between Hungary and the USSR, a match where 'the pool ran red' from all the blood spilled. Posted by: RickZ at June 16, 2018 05:06 AM (8lsuS) 549

Miklos, not that Wiki's very reliable, but it does state the Finns coined the phrase Molotov Cocktail.
The name "Molotov cocktail" was coined by the Finns during the Winter War, called in Finnish: polttopullo or Molotovin koktaili. The name was an insulting reference to Soviet foreign minister Vyacheslav Molotov, who was one of the architects of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact signed in late August 1939. The pact with Nazi Germany was widely mocked by the Finns, as was much of the propaganda Molotov produced to accompany the pact, including his declaration on Soviet state radio that bombing missions over Finland were actually airborne humanitarian food deliveries for their starving neighbors. The Finns sarcastically dubbed the Soviet cluster bombs "Molotov bread baskets" in reference to Molotov's propaganda broadcasts. When the hand-held bottle firebomb was developed to attack Soviet tanks, the Finns called it the "Molotov cocktail", as "a drink to go with the food". Posted by: RickZ at June 16, 2018 05:34 AM (8lsuS) 581
And technically their first use was in the Spanish Civil War in 1936 just not named Molotov.

The Hungary-Soviet Union confrontation was extremely bloody and violent, riddled with penalties, and the pool was later depicted as turning red from the blood spilt. The Hungarians led the Soviets 4-0 before the game was called off in the final minute to prevent angry spectators, many of them Hungarian immigrants to Australia, reacting to Valentin Prokopov punching Ervin Zador's eye open.

Posted by: semi-caffeinated Miklos I've tried them a couple of times when they are in the hotel rooms. Biggest complaints, you can't make the coffee as strong as I like it unless you don't use as much water. Posted by: Bruce at June 16, 2018 06:04 AM (8ikIW) We must have different opinions of what constitutes "work". If I can put a cup in the tray, mash the 'start' button like a spastic ape, and have coffee ready when I get out of the shower without having to wake up 100%, I can't call it work. My only complaint is that it's so effing wasteful, so I don't use it if I'm already awake enough to tie my shoes or remember my name. Posted by: hogmartin at June 16, 2018 06:10 AM (fZuhk) 608
