Amazing II

249 I'm losing faith in my country because I'm losing
faith in its institutions. And that is not my fault but the fault of
those entrusted with running and maintaining those institutions. And not
to make too much of my own inconsequential observations but I feel
compelled to say that this is how civilizations collapse. When the
citizenry loses faith, what is left?

I think we're just going through the motions of pretending that we're still a Republic.

The Solution

After the uprising of the 17th of June
The Secretary of the Writers' Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee
Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government
And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier
In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?

Essentially for the reader to come to his/her own conclusion so others could not 1) Horowitz is a partisan 2) because Horowitz said there was bias at the FBi 3) anytime you can get the reader to "reach their own conclusion" instead of being told, said person is likely to believe more and defend better their said position.

24 Willowed, reposting.
+++++++++
As anyone who has worked for a megacorp knows, "training" in things like "ethics" and "compliance" are often just a CYA for the organization. If someone misbehaves and implicates the organization, they can fall back on "we had instructional material provided by Party X in full accordance with the law and corporate policy. Employee 1 took this training and passed the examination at the end of it, and we can furnish those records. This is a good organization, and Employee 1 is just a bad apple. Employee 1 will be disciplined and we will ensure he retakes the enhanced version of the training material and passes all required exams if we choose to continue retaining Employee 1's services."

It is probably the same deal with the FBI as it is with many other megacorps.

67 As many of you know, I've been a big-city police officer for 24 years. My department has more than its share of toads and malcontents, but for the most part, they try to do the right thing.

We try to weed out the ones who tarnish the badge, and if the city won't fire them, they are summarily ignored by coworkers. When something horrendous is going on, most of the time, another officer/detective/etc. puts a spotlight upon it.

The worst part, for me, about the FBI scandal is the rank and file either took joy in violating the Constitution, or sat idly by while others committed crimes and/or malfeasance. It's why I disagree with many conservative talkers who excuse the rank and file. Of course not all agents are dirty, but almost none spoke up while their agency was violating the rights of Americans. That cannot stand.

God is a proper object of faith. Nothing made by men ever is, and that included nations and governments. All the works of men are destined for destruction in the end, and this nation is no different.

Our best hope is that if we work very hard, and are smart, we can push that day off until after we are gone, and then whatever happens falls on the next generation. But it is foolish and wrong for us to ever hope for any more than that.

87 67 The worst part, for me, about the FBI scandal is the rank and file either took joy in violating the Constitution, or sat idly by while others committed crimes and/or malfeasance. It's why I disagree with many conservative talkers who excuse the rank and file. Of course not all agents are dirty, but almost none spoke up while their agency was violating the rights of Americans. Have we heard any defenses of the rank and file of the FBI since yesterday and the report?

There's usually someone saying that we shouldn't say anything bad about them because of their faithful service and it shouldn't be tainted by the faults of their superiors.

Has anyone heard anything like that?

I really offput my tax guy a couple of years ago. I had a great year and a *very* high tax bill (for me, anyway). When we were seeing the final damage he said, "Congratulations. You paid for a couple of bridge girders somewhere."
I pointed out the window at the parking lot that included several Teslas and said, "No. I paid the subsidies on those luxury cars."

I shouldn't have done it. It was rude and childish and I apologized for it, but it really rubbed salt in the wound that I could so easily and immediately contextualize the amount that I paid in taxes with the perverse incentives they enabled. I could only think about how much lower my tax bill could be if we weren't so damn foolish.

While I don't agree with that assessment, I've come to the conclusion that bureaucratic doublespeak always seems to win the day. You're just setting yourself up for more disappointment.
Unless the FBI, DOJ, the entire intelligence community is disbanded, little will change. Hell, two-thirds of Congress needs to be shown the door. And even if that were possible, you're still stuck with career bureaucrats at the IRS, EPA, DOE, etc., that would literally take a generation of serious house cleaning to reform.

I drive through a school zone (Junior High) on my way into work. During the school year, the cops patrol that zone for speeders *really* aggressively because it is a major (four-lane) thoroughfare with normally high speed. The crosswalk that leads to the school across the thoroughfare has a stoplight that stops traffic to allow safe crossings. They *also* have two crossing guards run out to the middle and stand on the double-yellow with their "stop" signs (one for each direction of traffic) while the light is red. The run out as soon as it turns, and run back as soon as it turns back to green or when children finish crossing.

This is apropos of nothing, I just shake my head in wonderment every time I see it. It is a real-world textbook definition of "make work"

Great comment, but the scary part is the Deep States felt and apparently still feels emboldened enough not even to go through the motions. Maybe we should just cut to the chase and call the country the People's Republic of the United States of America. Because at best we are a zombie democracy/republic.

I have urged federal juries to nullify the government's cases, but those probably would lead to the elimination of jury trials and the Sixth Amendment probably will become one of those types of rights listed in the Soviet constitution.

Our civil institutions are corrupt beyond repair. Even if we see justice (which we probably won't) in this particular instance, it does nothing to address the problem of which this is a symptom.

The Party simply controls everything, and will not voluntarily relinquish that control, not one iota, to the forces of Law and Order over which they rule.

As such, I believe that no matter what (and in the relatively near-term) there will be a spasm. Mass arrests, and multitudes being thrown beneath the wheels of the troika.

The only question that remains for me: Will the troika be driven by the Party, or the People?

As this storm gathers, and events proceed apace, this question will be answered.

I did not know that poem. I did a lot of internet-looking around in the Krautisphere trying to find the story of the writer's union and the events surrounding the 17th of June.

I did not find them because I was looking for a poem without knowing that that's what I was doing.

I'm really surprised, btw, I think of Brecht as a Commie and likely an Apparatchik, so it's interesting to see him challenge the government*

those entrusted with running and maintaining those institutions. And not
to make too much of my own inconsequential observations but I feel
compelled to say that this is how civilizations collapse. When the
citizenry loses faith, what is left?
I think we're just going through the motions of pretending that we're still a Republic.

Posted by: LGoPs

The Institutions started going off the rails big time during GWB...that is when I really saw it. By the end, with the 2008 crash, it was clear that even the watchdogs had failed and been complicit.

So for me, that all this has finally broken open and people are seeing it and can no longer hide...like they have for 16 years, is the only we can get our shit together. It's the only way we correct our institutional failures. With schools it needs to be parents. Taxpayer dollars fund, they have the leverage. Everyone has a part to play.

The fact the report got done is such a hostile Environment is an endorsement that our Republic is still working. So while many are depressed, I'm more hopeful bcz things are beginning to see the light of day. It took only 18 months of Trump...which is insane....to get it done. That is incredibly fast.

So I've been depressed watching people pretend things weren't in the shitter for 16 plus years. Now, I see the light dawning and people facing it. Somthat gives me hope. Also, no HRC.

So take heart LGoPs

225 This is the attitude now all over the Federal bureaucracy.

It's just been hidden as the partisan workers were more circumspect.

Obama's arrival on the scene seemed to imbue them with a sense that NOW they could get away with being more obvious that it was okay and if now and then someone tried to do anything about it they would find too many OTHER partisans willing to jam them up so that they couldn't get redress for their grievances towards Government.

And it was all aimed at those who were not of the same party and beliefs as them. In other words they're the majority (at least in the Gov) and anyone who wasn't part of that can just take their chances on any justice or fairness.

We saw that with people using their gov job to hurt people and dox them or expose them to the media.

And we saw with the IRS that an entire Agency was going to be against these others.

There hasn't been a Republic for a while folks. And the only problem NOW is what do we the people and the "Others" do about it. Do we surrender and hope for the best? Or do we start making our physical selves known to those who would harm us?

Either choice is fraught with danger.

Posted by: jakee308 at June 15, 2018 02:14 PM (VqY5W)

226 I dunno. I think it's easy to be negative about this, assuming nothing will come of the wrongdoing etc, but honestly, judging from the social media response alone large segments of the public are well aware of what's going on. Nothing is really being covered up. Truth will out, as they say. People know when something smells bad. And this smells bad. The left and the deep state are completely exposed now, if they weren't already. Lots of us already knew about all this and didn't need a report.

There will be plenty of intangible consequences, even if not direct legal consequences (which is still a very big possibility) for what the left has done. This is going to affect the way people think about the govt and the way they vote going forward.
Think about it this way. There are probably alot more Trump voters today then there were yesterday. I still think the tide is turning. Slowly, but turning nonetheless.

Right, Clinton spent 8 years hiring and promoting this kind of person. Bush did nothing to clean it up, and was largely sympathetic toward their globalist ideas. Obama spent another 8 years hiring and promoting them.

This is what you get after that record. Its going to be nearly impossible and take years to fix, despite how frustrating and frightening it is.

I don't really know. I hope not. I believe the Democrats see Trump gaining momentum and popularity and see their side showing no leadership, ideas, or future. So this is how they fight, they pick an emotional topic and pick at it and pick at it like a scab, and it undermines their opponents' support. Its worked in the past.

And unlike their other stupid attacks, I'm not seeing a good, effective counter or defense for it. Its nonsense, and the policies they attack they didn't' care about under Obama, but that never has been a compelling defense in the past.

290 Here's the good news:

The spotlight is now on the Deep State. For the first time EVER.

For decades they have confidently ruled over us, chortling on their comfortable settees, safe in the knowledge that there was no challenge to their power and that the populace didn't even know they were being ruled by an unelected elite.

Now the rock has been overturned and the klieg light are blazing in their faces. This has never happened before. They must feel extremely uncomfortable now. You can't successfully maintain your status as a Shadow Government if you're the #1 topic of discussion nationwide everyday. You're not in the shadows anymore.

So I agree with those who say this only has increased the "Trump voter" bloc -- with "Trump voter" not necessary having any allegiance to Trump himself, but instead being an "anti-Deep State" voter, with Trump currently being the person leading the charge.

I suspect shockingly bad results for the Ds and the cucks in November and then again in 2020.

I've been banging this drum for well over a year now. If people understood what Holder and Obama did to hamstring all of the Inspectors General throughout his administration starting with Fast and Furious, they would have a much better understanding of how this kind of scandal was even able to happen.

For all intents, there was zero real oversight of any Obama executive agency throughout his entire 8 years. That's why we got a Fast and Furious, and IRS scandal, an attempt by the Obama intel agencies to rig an election and much, much more.

There is not because the evil is diffuse. There is no one leader from whom instructions and commands flow.

There is only a party. And an ideology. And their centers of promulgation.

This means that the only solution is for those targeted to congregate together for mutual protection.

And this is why it took so long to become obvious. We all thought it was only happening to us alone but it turns out that for a long time we were all targets.

One time, in my Ford Expedition, I'm at an intersection waiting to turn left. I get the turn arrow and start my turn. Coming at me from the other direction is a Smug Bicyclist who did not care to stop for the red light.

He banged into my rear quarter panel, got knocked off his bike, and slid a bit. Some scrawny looking 20-something. So he follows me into the parking lot and stands there until I get out of the truck...then he just turns around and leaves. It's not like I'm a really big guy, but more that he was a little fella.

Here's the good news:

The spotlight is now on the Deep State. For the first time EVER.

For decades they have confidently ruled over us, chortling on their
comfortable settees, safe in the knowledge that there was no challenge
to their power and that the populace didn't even know they were being
ruled by an unelected elite.

Now the rock has been overturned and the klieg light are blazing in
their faces. This has never happened before. They must feel extremely
uncomfortable now. You can't successfully maintain your status as a
Shadow Government if you're the #1 topic of discussion nationwide
everyday. You're not in the shadows anymore.

So I agree with those who say this only has increased the "Trump

The southern border of the U.S. is very dangerous. That's just a fact. It shouldn't be, but it is. The entire border is controlled by various cartels, all of whom are vicious, amoral animals. It's dangerous for adults to be in the remote areas where illegal crossings are typically made; it's insane for anyone to allow their kids to be in those areas, let alone to allow them to be their by themselves.

The worst part, for me, about the FBI scandal is
the rank and file either took joy in violating the Constitution, or sat
idly by while others committed crimes and/or malfeasance. It's why I
disagree with many conservative talkers who excuse the rank and file. Of
course not all agents are dirty, but almost none spoke up while their
agency was violating the rights of Americans. That cannot stand.

Posted by: Wyatt Earp at June 15, 2018 01:54 PM (Agn5J)

So true.

The "rank and file" FBI agents have taken their oath to do their job and defend the Constitution. Yet they continue to stand by and let the corrupt leadership continue their felonious actions. It isn't even close. AoS has documented this again and again.

Hey "rank and file"! Time is up, either arrest these criminals or YOU are JUST as guilty as they are!

The Tea Party is kind of why I believe the wheels are just going to come off of this thing.

That was a true grassroots mass movement. It had juice behind it. But, what damn difference did it make?

For instance: here in Colorado, we put "Tea Party candidate" Cory Gardner in office against an entrenched family dynasty incumbent. It was a big damn push. His first vote in office? To approve Obama's monster budget. He just jumped into the swamp feet first.

And this process was replicated with many other TP candidates. I just don't see any way out of this, short of simply seizing power.

Posted by: artisanal 'ette at June 15, 2018 02:19 PM (fceHP)

The safety valve isn't working. Pressure is building.

The bad things like Vegas pop into existence. There used to be closure, a crazy person did it. We knew crazy people existed, we could deal with it, move on.

Now, a Vegas incident is a conspiracy. EVERYTHING is now a conspiracy. They are working against you. Institutions that at one time worked to allay your fears now play a part in that conspiracy. Everyone and everything becomes an Other. Can you feel the pressure building? When will they get down to dealing with you?

This triggers certain hard wired responses and messes up body and brain chemistry to get ready to respond to a surprise tiger attack. It eats at you.

Conspiracies exist. Usually they grow out of institutions that distort the truth to cover their asses. That is what happened in Vegas. Crazy person snuck by safeguards. Did bad things. Accountability and analysis was needed. An open process. This is the safety valve. You understand what happened, can begin to deal with it. Instead, everybody started to cover their ass. That IS a conspiracy, to avoid the truth. It starts there and adds to the pressure.
