The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"Did you know that babbling clown Paul Ehrlich is still running his fool mouth? You'd think he's learned his lesson by now, but no, even though virtually everything he wrote back in 1968 in his hysterical, omg-my-hair-is-on-fire book 'The Population Bomb' has turned out to be wrong, that hasn't stopped him. He says, get this, 'many details and timings of events were wrong...but...the book was correct overall.' In other words it was fake, but accurate. He's like one of those TV preachers who predict that the world is ending Real Soon Now so send in your money. Also, if he honestly believes that the world is overcrowded, then what is he still doing here? It's like he's saying 'this lifeboat is way to crowded, so everybody needs to get off, but not me.' Considering that European and American birth-rates have been mostly flat for decades, what he's really saying is that there are too many brown people in the world, and there needs to be fewer of them. Somebody is going to eventually notice that all of this is kind of, you know, racist, and that's when we'll start seeing some wild and crazy blue-on-blue action."

overpopulation myth.jpg

Progressivism In a Nutshell:

This reminds me of this piece, A Michigan Marxist Restaurant Closes After Failed Group Decisions and Long Sandwich Waits:

The restaurant’s (now-defunct) Facebook page was flooded with complaints from patrons angry at its slow service. Patrons hungry for a sandwich would find the café shuttered at odd times, thanks to opening hours set by employee group decision.

Sounds like a miniature version of Venezuela. The article states that the waiting time for a sandwich could be as long as 40 minutes(!).

So somebody please tell me, why should we trust rat bastard commies to govern a country? They're not competent enough run a sandwich shop.

Also Academics: I'm not going to propagate my racist genes.

Wouldn't that be an extreme form of self-hatred? Couldn't racism be argued to be an *encoding* of gene protection? If the only point is for genes to survive to the next generation, why no tolerance for racism as a survival mechanism?

Why insist on idealism that is has no genetic/survival component?

Also take a look at this. Alabama has 6.3 restaurants per capita or 10k residents. There are 4.875 million residents in the state. If I did my math correctly, there are a little over 3,000 fast food restaurants in the entire state. That's a lot.

[someone mentions all the jobs they create]

I worked at McDonalds in high school. The only thing it did was give me high blood pressure and sleep deprivation. There are many many other entry level jobs that teens can work at. The economy isn't going to collapse if we reduce the amount of fast food chains or make it

Mandatory for said fast food joints to have a substantial amount of vegan options
on the menu. That way everyone keeps their jobs, corporations still profit and vegans don't have to eat salad when they go out with friends to these places. Everyone wins.

I think this is right. Throughout most of human history, people tended to bunch up in clans and tribes with everyone in close proximity to each other.

Hillary's 'It Takes a Village' was not 100% wrong.
Posted by: OregonMuse, AoSHQ Thought Leader & Contributing Editor, Vanity Fair Magazine at June 18, 2018 11:49 AM (htCxB)

Hayek, in "The Fatal Conceit" addresses this quite well, in a way that was something of an "aha" moment for me.

He says the notion of socialism is perfectly reasonable, when applied to homogeneous groupings, where everyone has a shared SOCIAL connection, whether it be families, clans, small villages, and other such groupings.

It's when you try to apply those principles to larger groups, like, say, nations, that the concept breaks down. People can't be MADE to care about strangers, that's pretty much the point. We can cooperate, work together, have shared interests, but unless you have a social/emotional connection with people, socialism WILL NOT work.

Saw that earlier. I'm a little miffed that I didn't think of that. I can usually think in the conditional, and just was stymied by Comey's claim that he didn't know.

Good for Margot. We need more analysis of claims. Lies are usually reflex covers to obscure the truth, they don't have the consistency that a true situation does. Thus, Comey not only admits to not knowing something obvious, but quite high incompetence in the face of the claimed ignorance.

Just like Hillary's claim that she didn't know the "(c)" meant confidential is no support for the claim that she is the most qualified candidate ever.

I think this is a good partial explanation why socialism was seen as such a success in the Scandinavian countries. Small, highly homogeneous populations will have a greater receptivity to the "sharing" idea than heterogeneous ones. Also, it didn't hurt that Scandi socialism was subsidized by one-time only oil and gas revenues AND the U.S. picking up the tab on their national defense.

116 The mindlessness of Evolution is one of the ways that leftists try to remove traditional meaning and mores from the public sphere.

Since all traditional idea of meaning are meaningless in the face of the meaninglessness of the blunt instrument of death before propagation as the sum of all that's going on, we can only get meaning through each person deciding for themselves what is meaningful. And thus, the traditional corporate meanings are exclusive of these new personal meanings--like the amount of orgasms and sexual identity--so they must be taken down.

There might be some credence in that, except the Marxists have long sought to take value-based societies down by weakening their attachment to group morality as well. And Marxist want to impose very-flawed theories of relationships by State power.

Also, what it ends up to mean is that nobody who wants anything more than a personal, indulgent, idiosyncratic meaning should be allowed to pursue that meaning which is greater than the individual sphere.

Here is a typical recommendation from the report...

"6. The FBI [should] add a warning to all of the FBI's mobile phones and in order to further nofitfy users that they have no reasonable expectation of privacy."

7. The FBI consider (a) assessing whether it has provided adequate training to employees about the proper use of text messages and instant messages, including any related discovery obligations, and (b) providing additional guidance about the allowable uses of FBI devices for any non-governmental purpose, including guidance about the use of FBI devices for political conversations

9. Department ethics officials consider implementing a review of campaign donations when Department employees or their spouses run for public office.

In other words, hide your biases better dummies.

Hitler was pretty close to a vegan. Also, he had such extreme stomach problems for most of his adult life. He found a doctor who was renown for curing stomach ailments. He commissioned that doctor, and that doctor injected fermented/rotting bacon grease into Hitler's intestinal tract for the rest of their mutual lives. Hitler was such a doctrinaire vegetarian that the doctor feared that the Fuhrer would find out the secret of the treatment. But Hitler raved about how much better he felt under the care of the doctor.

Vegans/Vegetarians will try to sell you on the idea that we were "meant" to be plant eaters. Yet, that doesn't understand Evolution. If we changed by eating meat and that played a role in our adaptive process, it could be some of us are optimized for meat-eating and the body is less fit for a strictly plant diet.

Again the feedback for the Evolutionary process called Natural Selection is the blunt instrument of Death--then again, there is making members outcasts and untouchables that will reduce their mating chances, as well.

Started in 1997 with the Flores Consent Decree, which encourages illegals to bring their kids because said kids can't be held longer than 20 days - while asylum determinations takes longer (so they slip into the country after mandatory release).

W. didn't fix that. Obama further exploited it with DACA, which was an open invitation so send unaccompanied minors.

Pretty sure the only thing Laura Bush is upset about is that Trump is now using this to force border wall funding (his latest proposal ties it to DACA green cards; if funding is deferred, then no green cards). IOW, he's found a way to use these kids in the same way Lefties have been for two decades.

I've long thought that socialism needs 3 conditions to hold in order to work:

1. a population that is relatively small
2. a population that does *not* have a lot of cultural diversity
3. some sort of natural resource the state can exploit.

Iceland is a good example. Population

Same with Norway and Denmark with their North Sea oil reserves.

Bingo. People who tout Scandinavia as an example of how socialism can work might as well tout the Amish, Mennonites, and other insular and homogenous groups. No diversity there, at least not until lately in Scandinavia, and watch their welfare states fall apart after importing same.

Joshua Murchevik wrote a book (Heaven on Earth) on the rise and fall of Marxism and an analysis as to why it failed. He ends with the Kibbutzim and pointng out, yeah, it was successful but they ultimately died out as socialist cooperatives because the kids didn't see the point in continuing them when they could live a much better life outside of them. And so, they were privatized into resorts or tourist traps. The lesson? Socialism, even if it's sucessful, will ultimately hit a wall when it has to compete with a capitalist world.

225 I've long thought that socialism needs 3 conditions to hold in order to work:

1. a population that is relatively small
2. a population that does *not* have a lot of cultural diversity
3. some sort of natural resource the state can exploit.

Iceland is a good example. Population

Same with Norway and Denmark with their North Sea oil reserves.

What kills socialism (and all lefty ideas) is dynamism - any sort of growth or advancement. Socialism, and general leftiness, is based on stagnation. If a society adopts leftiness then stagnation is forced on that society (as we saw with Barky and how our economy, and pretty much everything, came to a near standstill under his retarded policies).

Any sort of growth - population, territory, etc. - and any sort of advancement breaks the brittle lefty policies that are all set in stone with committees formed to decide how things will be done and what will be researched and worked on.

Yes, if there is an available pool of free money then lefty policies can live on for longer periods of time, just by sheer force of wealth, but they will still break, eventually, under the force of any sort of dynamism.

229 Vegans/Vegetarians will try to sell you on the idea that we were "meant" to be plant eaters.

Posted by: Axeman at June 18, 2018 12:23 PM (vDqXW)

I listen to Stone Cold Steve Austin's podcast, and a few months back one of his guests was a guy that does ultra-marathons and is a vegan/vegetarian. Part of his claim was that look at gorillas, one of the strongest animals out there and they just eat plants, and your body has to break down the food and create proteins anyway so why eat meat and have to break that protein down to just form new protein.

And then the other week he's got a different guy on who is doing the Carnivore Diet. Basically arguing the exact opposite. You have the animals to break down the plant matter initially and then you can eat those animals and it will be better for you.

I think it's just that if you do a diet right, whatever it is you can make it work for you if it's compatible with your physiology.

A heat pump is a combined A/C and heater so you don't need a second A/C unit. If the temps rarely get below 32F a heat pump will work out fine. The reason you don't see heat pumps up north is because the winters are much harsher.

In fact, the 2.1 replacement level per female assumes a 50/50 sex ratio, so Red China might be in even worse shape in the decades to come. Sure, they have over a billion people, but the Great Dieoff of the 2030s forward may be something to behold.

251 Schlichter's Townhall column on the IG report is decent. Nice summation - it's simultaneously a terrifying indictment of the situation, and a whitewash.

Many retreat into what is really a silly pretzel twisting exercise about who an IG works for, the various contortions that result by trying to please different masters, blah blah blah.

Nonsense. There's no point in paying IG employees to do what they do unless their efforts result in 1) a solid factual record, AND 2) reasonable conclusions and observations based on that record.

No. 2 is outrageously missing here. I've not yet read the entire report, but so far, I think in 3 separate places, read that the FBI investigation confirmed that classified material was improperly (i.e., ILLEGALLY) handled, AND was probably compromised by foreign intelligence.

And yet - NO indictments, NO plea deals, NO prosecutions. I have not seen that the IG report, at any point, offers even the obvious and mundane observation that something is seriously wrong because crimes were confirmed, and yet magically not a single indictment was pursued. THIS is the bottom line.

On a related note, here's someone reading a letter Tommy Robinson wrote from prison (arrested for reporting on Pakistani rape gangs in Britain). I saw it on Father's Day, so hearing the terrible things his son is going through was tough. Uplifting towards the end, though, as he realizes the people of Britain are finally waking up.

Posted by: buzzion at June 18, 2018 12:34 PM (cAnNx)
---
The main idea is that there IS no teleology to Evolution. Species are adapting all the time, and that forces changes. Even *if* it can be proven that we started out eating berries (per one thing I recently read), there is no teleology to talk about anything being "meant". Adaptation is adaptation.

We were "meant" to be berry-eaters. Then we adapted to eating grains (which our stomachs *still* have a problem breaking down--and expends *much* effort on the part of the digestive tract to do so), since then, we've eaten a lot of grains. A major religion asks "Give us this day our daily bread" as metonymy for food.

That we were formerly berry-eaters doesn't hold that we haven't changed to be more adaptive to grains and that some of our berry adaption has been selected out.

We were originally X.

Yes, but then we changed.

The most insisted upon definition for Evolution is *simply* Descent with Modification. Thus modifying diets and adaptability to diets is *right* in the most-preferred definition of Evolution.

Schlichter's Townhall column on the IG report is decent. Nice summation
- it's simultaneously a terrifying indictment of the situation, and a
whitewash.

Many retreat into what is really a silly pretzel twisting exercise
about who an IG works for, the various contortions that result by trying
to please different masters, blah blah blah.

Nonsense. There's no point in paying IG employees to do what they
do unless their efforts result in 1) a solid factual record, AND 2)
reasonable conclusions and observations based on that record.

No. 2 is outrageously missing here. I've not yet read the entire
report, but so far, I think in 3 separate places, read that the FBI
investigation confirmed that classified material was improperly (i.e.,
ILLEGALLY) handled, AND was probably compromised by foreign
intelligence.

And yet - NO indictments, NO plea deals, NO prosecutions. I have
not seen that the IG report, at any point, offers even the obvious and
mundane observation that something is seriously wrong because crimes
were confirmed, and yet magically not a single indictment was pursued.
THIS is the bottom line.

Posted by: rhomboid at June 18, 2018 12:38 PM (QDnY+)

Here is the thing about the IG reprot and our "modern press"
there is so much red meat in this one report alone that if CNN or MSNBC were inclined ot be fair about it, they could tear the democratic party apart with Town halls and Special reports in the same why they did the Stormy Daniels thing.
But , nope it's all under the rug.
It's really ugly, sad, disheartening when the media takes sides in such a monumental affair.

They must see how crooked it all is and just shrug, focus on Manafort and Muller and hope they don't have a psychic break.

297 I'd like to thank Warden for making me laugh and cry at work now. You sumbitch.

I dare not read the comments on that thread. I won't make it.

I lost my dad nine months ago. My wife and I both lost our dads last year.

Major holidays and milestones still kinda suck. This was my first Father's Day without my dad, and (barely) our second without my Father-in-Law.

My kids made it special. My wife did too. But our hearts still ache.

My dad was a stubborn jokester not too unlike Warden's story. As cancer was having it's way with him, and he was in and out of the ER, it was always mom that would do us the service of telling us he was there, much to his chagrin. We live 90 minutes away, and he knew that a carload of Reasons would drop everything and hit the road, or at bare minimum, just me.

Jokes and razzing each other were our language. We seldom did "deep talks." But the deep talks were there, hidden in plain sight by jokes and ribbings.

His all-time favorite movie was 2001. Not for the cinematic artistry. Not for the faithful recreation of a seminal science-fiction novel.

No.

He loved it because his name was Dave.

For Father's Day one year in the 90's, I looked up how to alter the loading screen for Windows95. I changed it to a screenshot of the HAL9000 "eye" and a .wav of "I know what you're trying to do, Dave, and I'm afraid I can't allow it." The shutdown screen was the same, but with a .wav of HAL slowly singing "Daisy." That was it. No other Father's Day present before or after could compare.

I've probably been willow'd by now, as this has taken me forever to write. Probably for the best.

Scott Adams did a periscope on this and nails this kind of opinion: "And?"

It's incomplete. No one wants parents separated from children. You have add what you think is a better solution. Do you want the kids in detention with parents? Do you really want them all to be free --- in the US, or back in home country? Admit it and stop with the cheap grace of declaring it breaks your heart, period.
______________________________

I'm with him.

If you think this situation is "heart breaking," then let's hear your solution.

Thanks to Obama's lawless policies, our southern border has been under continuous assault from illegal aliens seeking to become welfare colonists in the U.S. Also thanks to Obama, many of these illegal aliens have been bringing kids along with them, some of them their own, some not. But all of these kids, without exception, are being used and exploited by foreigners seeking to either outright violate, or otherwise take advantage of U.S. laws.

So what should we do with these foreign kids? Just wave them into the U.S. with whatever adults they show up with, and continue Obama's "don't ask" policy and just assume that the adults are not cartel members or human traffickers or people in the kiddie sex trade?

Or should we separate them until we can determine who their parents are, and whether or not they have the right to be in the U.S.?

And keep in mind when you're making your decision that there are already tens of millions of foreigners living in the U.S. illegally, and any policy change which makes it easier for them to come or stay will guarantee a deluge of millions more.

So decide how many more illegal aliens we can afford to welcome here. And keep in mind that over 50% of current immigrants to the U.S., of both the legal and illegal variety, are receiving at least one form of federal welfare, and many are receiving multiple forms, and for many years.

So how many more illegal aliens, especially those from third-world countries who tend to be poor, uneducated, unskilled, and have limited or no English skills, can we take in? We're already $20 trillion in debt, we have hundreds of trillions more in unfunded liabilities like Social Security and Medicaid and Medicare, and half of the U.S. citizen families have less than $400 in savings. How much should those American families have to pay to support the lifestyles of other countries' poor who want to come here? Do American citizens have any right at all to have a voice in these decisions? Or should all of our immigration policies be based on little more than far-left, virtue-signalling talking points like "don't rip children from their mamas' arms!!!"

If you're expressing an opinion and you're not willing to address these questions with some practical, fair, workable solutions -- and show your work, then you really should just STFU.

324 1. a population that is relatively small
2. a population that does *not* have a lot of cultural diversity
3. some sort of natural resource the state can exploit.z'

It's important to realize that ANY form of government you can devise will work under those conditions - those are the absolute easiest conditions in which a state can exist. The question is which form of government is most optimal. It's useful to realize that socialism ONLY works in the easiest of conditions.

When there is a mono-culture, ie Switzerland, Iceland, Vermont, Oregon, etc, it is easy to get agreement when yu don't have to deal with complicated group dynamics - when you have a "diverse" society, every group is always sure that every other group is trying to get an advantage.

and as far as a large natural resource, such as Noway has - sure, you could let the government own it, but wouldn't it be better to let it be developed privately, and let the government collect and distribute the income through royalty payments and excise taxes, etc? The revenue can be managed to be the same, and the government doesn't have the expense or the bother of having to figure out how to be an oil company.

There's a reason that great resource wealth has turned out to be a curse on almost every 3rd world country that has it. Take Libya and Venezuela as the two top examples.

and Antarctica almost certainly has more mineral wealth than you could find in the entire moon if you were able to run the entire thing through a shredder and sift it. The moon has nothing, that was the big disappointing result of the Apollo visits. It's just a pile of useless slag.

Are we sure? Minerals, the ability to manufacture in vacuum, the ability to study the stars without interference from an atmosphere, lighter gravity for geriatric treatments . . .?

And the most important thing is, whoever owns the Moon owns the Earth. It's simple to throw rocks at the Earth from there -- and each one lands with a minimum velocity of 7 miles per second.

412 BTW, we separate parents from their kids every single day Bandersnatch.

I keep hearing that argument about how we treat criminals' kids.

The reason these people are in the camps is that they are asylum seekers. If they were uncaught, they wouldn't be in the camps, and they would be illegals.

Now, the asylum claims may be bullshit, but we have a law and a procedure for adjudicating that and while they are in detention they are not yet criminals.

Also, while a mother is in jail in Seattle (this is happening) we are paying someone else to take care of her kid imprisoned elsewhere.

It doesn't make sense.

413 390 The simple solution is to hand the babies back to the parents and push them all out the door of a cargo plane.

Posted by: garrett at June 18, 2018 12:57 PM (MkVJm)

I have a more humane solution: Illegals are rounded up and then flown to Cancun, Cozumel, and other southernmost Mexican airports. Airlines get subsidy boost, illegals get the airplane ride of a lifetime, but then in order to do it again they have to make a long trek back up 2,000 miles of Mexico.

Think of it is a giant "Chutes and Ladders" game.

Posted by: Curmudgeon at June 18, 2018 01:06 PM (ujg0T)

414 It's not the USA separating the kids. It's the parents actions that are separating the kids.

Don't illegally enter the USA with your kids and won't be no separation. Easy Peasy.

It is just those damned whites he needs to get rid of, and now the Asians too, those damned "honorary whites." Brown good, AS LONG AS THEY STAY POOR, down in the dirt like animals. The poorer the better.

Not quite. He might be getting on the trendy Whitey Hate Whitey train now, but back in the '70s he was most definitely on the OMG Brown People Breed Like Rabbits track.

I suspect that it's been edited in the later editions, but in the first ed. of The Population Bomb, he talks about how he first came to the conclusion that the human population was a problem while traveling in India, walking the streets of Bombay with a "sea of brown faces". I had to read parts of that book in a college course a long time back, and the anti-brown people racist basis for his theories was obvious (a lot of folks in the class didn't like it AT ALL when this was pointed out).

We do. And rule No. 1 is go to and embassy or an official crossing point and seek asylum. If you do not follow rule No. 1 and instead sneak into the US you violate the asylum policy and give up any and all rights to be treated as an asylum seeker and are instead treated as what you are, an illegal alien.

Per government stats, less than 20% of people who seek asylum status in the US are granted it despite the US being the most generous asylum granting nation in the world. By far. Obviously, the vast majority of people sneaking into the country and then claiming asylum status are lying and trying to game the system.

Also, don't piss down my leg and telling me it's raining. The Obama administration was taking out actual ads in Latin American countries telling people how to game the system during his 8 years. 469 To the left, abortion is an acceptable logistical solution. If the mother doesn't have enough time, money, or the most important resource interest in being a parent, the idea is that we end whatever potential for life there was in the potential being.

Planned parenthood talks about how much preferred it is to have a planned influx of children.

However, you can't make the border a logistical solution. And they don't like the concept of Planned Immigration. Even though you're not ending anybody's potential for life, in the process.

What's funny is the "asylum seekers". Their ethnic homeland is so messed up, that apparently they would die if they stayed there. So, in America, they're not dying, their kids aren't dying, so they're removed that emergency situation, and the primary goal has been achieved.

Oh--and "banana republic" is RACIST.

If they find you in Washington State, and you say, oh, I claim asylum, that doesn't work.

Posted by: Bandersnatch at June 18, 2018 01:05 PM (fuK7c)

Negative. These are the ones who get caught coming in at points other than ports of entry. The asylum seekers are the ones that present themselves lawfully at the ports of entry.

These are the illegals. They are human smugglers, and are sometimes carrying drugs for the cartels as part of their entry fee. Just because they claim the chidren with them are their kids doesn't make it so. And oftentimes the 'kid' is the coyote.

I suspect many (most?) find the situation heart-breaking. That doesn't mean you just let them in. One can find it heart-breaking for the kids who's parents are doing this. One can understand why parents come here to find a better life. But again, that doesn't mean you just let them in. And this country could probably find a way to keep these people here, so long as a wall was built (first) and they were guaranteed to never be citizens. But the left won't compromise in that regard. I did the math myself more than a decade ago and I want to say it worked out to 4 people for every quarter acre.

546 The whole point of this obviously coordinated left-wing propaganda about the darling illegal babies is to get Trump to sign an amnesty bill that will disgust his base and depress GOP votes in November.

It's a clever ploy, I think.

Let's hope Trump has the sense to stand firm.

547 I suspect many (most?) find the situation heart-breaking. That doesn't
mean you just let them in. One can find it heart-breaking for the kids
who's parents are doing this. One can understand why parents come here
to find a better life. But again, that doesn't mean you just let them
in. And this country could probably find a way to keep these people
here, so long as a wall was built (first) and they were guaranteed to
never be citizens. But the left won't compromise in that regard. And the
media is going back to the old "heart-breaking" playbook. I just don't
think its going to work this time.

We are no longer falling for the old banana in the tailpipe trick.

Most do not want to find a way to keep these people here. They don't belong here. Any who feel heart-broken at the poverty/conditions in these people's home country can become missionaries, or give to missionaries who are working to make those country's better places to live. The US is not the world's social services department.

He was also the person who invented man made global warming out of whole cloth. He has a long crackpot history of being completely and precisely wrong.

552 All Robert Malthus and Paul Erlich have proven is their
projections of exponential population growth are wrong.
Mammy Nature interfered by regulating population
growth. The more prosperous and well-fed people are,
the fewer kids they have.

Also destroyed was the myth that the Earth's resources
could not support runaway population growth.

That image of Texas reminded me that the capacity of
that state could house the entire population of the planet
with 4 people per 2,000 square foot home. This concept
was published about two decades ago and is well known.

If the people of the third world are having a tough time
feeding their families, it is the fault of their governments
and their economic systems. Somalia has some of most
fertile farmlands in the world. If the government wasn't
keeping the masses away at the point of machine guns,
we would not have had those nightly sob stories by
Sally Struthers a few decades back.

553 According to Asimov's, "The Good Earth Is Dying," the carrying capacity of Earth is 40,000,000,000,000. Yes, that IS over 5,000 for each person alive today. -- Giggle

554 Hey Ace,

I just saw the movie Downsizing and I was surprised by the message of the movie - just the opposite of what I expected.

The overt message is we all have to make do with less to save the world. The secret message is that the people who believe that are all selfish, self-important idiots. That they ignore day to day suffering, and that a lot of what they do is just posing.
