Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | AmazingEric Felten at the mostly but not entirely cucked-out Weekly Standard. Agent 1 was one of the key players in the investigation--one of just four "case agents" on the probe--and he not only expressed his political support for Clinton, he advocated against subjecting Hillary to an FBI interview.... Just in case his girlfriend didn’t savvy the full extent of his disgruntlement at the prospect of interviewing Hillary Clinton, Agent 1 added "My god ...I'm actually starting to have embarrassment sprinkled on my disappointment. ....Ever been forced to do something you adamantly opposed." Asked by the IG about these comments, Agent 1 insisted he hadn’t meant his message: "I don't want to make it sound like there was no reason to interview her." As for explaining his "adamantly oppose"” comments, Agent 1's memory seemed to give out. There are reasons to think that Agent 1 was dissatisfied because the organization was phoning in a politically determined investigation. But there are also reasons to think his unhappiness flowed from an admiration for Hillary. Take his message to Agent 5 after completing the questioning of Clinton: "done interviewing the President." And then there’s this heartfelt string of missives from Agent 1 to Agent 5 on November 8, 2016--election day: "You should know; ...that I'm ...with her.” (The IG helpfully adds in a footnote that "I'm with her" was one of the Clinton campaign slogans.”) Here are some of the highlights of Agent 1's comments about his work on the “Midyear” investigation as the Clinton case was code-named: ">.. the most meaningless thing I've ever done with people acting like f---ing 9/11.” "… I dont care about it. I think its continued waste of resources and time and focus..." "Its just so obvious how pointless this exercise is ..." Put on the spot by the IG, Agent 1 explained his indiscreet comments as just being the nature of using instant messaging. He succumbed to a "water cooler" style of "jocularity" because he thought IMs "were not retained by the FBI and therefore used less caution with those communications than he would have with other types of communications." ... Agent 5 sent an instant message to Agent 1 on February 9, 2016, griping about the Midyear work she was being given to do. Agent 1 messaged back to commiserate: "Yeah, I hear you. You guys have a shitty task, in a shitty environment," he wrote. "To look for something conjured in a place where you cant find it, for a case that doesnt matter and is predestined." It's bad enough that a lead agent on the Clinton case was convinced the outcome was "predestined," but there’s more in Agent 1's description of the culture they were operating in: "DOJ comes in there every once in awhile and takes a wishy-washy, political, cowardice stance. Salt meets wound. That is the environment love. Can't sugar coat it.” At least he followed by telling his girlfriend to “do the best you can." That sounds like a frank and honest description of a politically skewed shop. But when asked about that message, Agent 1 had another message altogether for the IG: "I have no information that [the Clinton investigation] was a pre-determined outcome by anyone." No, of course not.And don't forget Agent 1 and Agent 5's other work:

I have by no means finished reading this report, and might (big might) get there by the end of the weekend. That said, so far it looks like the summary and recommendations don't track with the report's contents. Almost like they want to give a shortcut to the "right answer" to the press or somesuch regardless of what the meat-and-potatoes report actually reveals.

This report is much more useful and helpful than you'd think if you just read the comments yesterday.
You've got to remember - this is all Political. Everything is Political. Now indictments and charges could be useful because they make the Political case easier to make, but if you can win the Political matters in other ways, then so what. All of this only matters insofar as it affects the midterm elections this November. If they result in a big win for Trump allies, then all good things flow from that. If they result in a big loss, then all may be lost. All the rest is just fru-fru window dressing. Posted by: Tom Servo at June 15, 2018 12:37 PM (k1TUh) 19

I am not sure what to think anymore.
Clearly this report documents that - among other things - Hillary Clinton lied to the FBI, and the FBI knew it, and let it slide. (at a minimum - seems that they were cheering her for her dishonesty, because, whew, now they don't have to pursue it.) So, if Huber/Steiner will come, and he is not bringing an indictment for "lying to the FBI" for one private citizen Hillary Clinton, then this is all just a farce. All of it. But the fact is, this report tells us that Hillary is a big ol' lying liar. That is not being covered up. So, maybe, just maybe, its on the level, despite all the spin that the press/Left is applying. Posted by: blaster at June 15, 2018 12:38 PM (jHrzU) 22

If someone does something that undermines a war effort, but their intention was not to aid the enemy, then it's not treason. An example: foreman of an ammo plant leads a strike because of unsafe work conditions, resulting in an ammo shortage and a lost battle or stalled campaign. Their intent was safe working conditions. Ignoramus, no. Horowitz emphatically, in detail, alleges there are no lines connecting the dots. Investigative decisions that were obviously merely part of a cover-up are rationalized as judgement calls.
I'd like to see a detailed take-down of the report by an experienced prosecutor and FBI field agent. Horowitz specifically OKs many outrageous, obviously politically motivated investigative decisions. This report signals, if anything, the rot is even worse than feared. Even the IG process is no longer that useful (yeah yeah lots of info collected - so what? I have no information that [the Clinton investigation] was a pre-determined outcome by anyone.
Probably an honest answer, the agent could not specifically point to any official or published absolute proof of the predetermination of the case. Just know it from a sense of how the case was being handled and who was in charge. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at June 15, 2018 12:52 PM (39g3+) 101
All of this only matters insofar as it affects the midterm elections this November.
I respectfully, and completely disagree with that statement. What matters is that the highest LEA in the Country actively worked to influence an election, and worked with the then current administration and the MSM in doing so. Then, after the election, those same entities are continuing to undermine the duly elected president and his administration. The tone deaf response and outright display of arrogance from Wray yesterday tells everything needed to know about what these asshats think their priorities are and what they think about anyone who not of the tribe. Tom, sorry, an IG has no business playing 1,342-dimensional chess. Especially in this case.
The facts are incredibly damning (of course, we knew they'd be, the "investigation" was a farce, as even a layman could see by comparing known violations to investigative steps and outcomes). The Hill certainly needs to rip the normative parts of the report to shreds. It would be nice if some of the congresscritters would have experienced FBI field agents and prosecutors deconstruct the key ridiculous findings, and lay out what are normal procedures that were not followed, to have Horowitz react. This report, and Wray's attitude, are a package. Wray isn't stupid. He's clearly determined to use the ridiculous IG report findings to avoid doing his job, to avoid undertaking the stables-cleaning that is so obviously needed. Nobody should even begin to think they understand the IG report until they view Wray's presser yesterday. Posted by: rhomboid at June 15, 2018 12:52 PM (QDnY+) 104

The FBI under Wray doesn't need training in
anti-bias. It needs training in understanding what taking an oath means and that the oath is taken to protect the Constitution of the United States, not a political party or any particular candidate. Posted by: LGoPs I hate to be the one to tell you but that 'training' doesn't exist. It can't exist. Posted by: weft cut-loop at June 15, 2018 12:44 PM (zfrbv) You're right. I was being half sarcastic because those values about the oath should be inherent in your character. And if it's not, you don't belong in the job and no amount of training will avail you. Posted by: Pam at June 15, 2018 12:41 PM (qRq6C) And what exactly is "unleashing hell"? Seriously, what is it you want Trump to do? Simultaneously fire Sessions, Rosenstein, Wray, whoever is #2,#3, #4 at the DOJ and the FBI? Then demand #5 whoever that is, empanel a grand jury, and get indictments so these people can all be arrested ( let's see, we want to do that within 12 hours of the release of the IG's report) or should we just dispense with the constitutional stuff and simply order the army to arrest these people, a la NK style? And Tom, about the mid-terms being the only point: no, not even close. You may recall an election, back in 2016? You might have heard of the DOJ, the AG, a special counsel, etc? How is that working out? Of course elections are important. And of course the entire point of the corruption under discussion is that it *can negate the outcomes of elections* - or affect those outcomes themselves. There's no tension between addressing the calamitous scandals at DOJ/FBI and winning the mid-terms. They are parallel endeavors. This IG report is one report out of three that will
be released. Notice it has some facts and some opinion in it. It's not a formal prosecutorial investigation, it's like an HR report in a Fortune 500 company. Only so much is actionable and without being able to actually subpoena and interview people who no longer work at the FBI or DOJ( Comey, Lynch, now McCabe, etc.) it has little outside legal teeth. Posted by: Jen the original at June 15, 2018 12:53 PM (NLeU Folks need to prepare themselves for a LOOOONG wait before any IG report is released on FISA/CIA/NSA abuse. Off the reservation, no, Trump's opinion of Wray could be grievously, disastrously wrong. It's looking like it. Unless, as with most rationalizations so many people endlessly cling to, Wray is another one involved in 1,342-dimensional chess by publicly pocketing the ludicrous whitewash of the IG findings and rubbing any observant citizens' faces in it by announcing ridiculous "training" - while behind the scenes "fixing it".
Posted by: rhomboid at June 15, 2018 01:03 PM (QDnY+) 167
Sundance has been backing Wray for a long time. And Sessions. There are two choices with the FBI: (1) scrap it and rebuild completely; (2) fix it.Item (1) would take *years*. So (2) is the only reasonable option. Sessions job is fixing things. The only opinion that matters is Trump's. His praising Wray is a signal that Wray is on the right side ...
+++++++++ There's a third way, I think. I wrote something like this a while ago (Ace time is in a different stream, though, so I don't recall how long ago it was): 1) Commission and independent (non-DOJ) committee to list every single law enforcement and intelligence function at the FBI. 2) Have a different independent committee rank them in order of importance. 3) Transfer the top 25 LE functions to the Marshals. Transfer the top 25 intelligence functions to the Secret Service. Everything else gets dropped. 4) Agents and analysts from the FBI personnel are eligible - though not guaranteed - transfer to staff the new manpower shortfalls at the receiving agencies. Anyone in management (including SAIC), administration, senior leadership, etc. are ineligible for consideration. Interview preference will be given to personnel who were not hired in the first seven years of the prior administration. That could be done in 9-12 months, probably, and might help. I don't know. I vacillate between "carve out the cancer and try to retain the good people (who surely exist)" and "burn it down." Reform seems preferable but I also think the FBI is a rotten borough and should be dismantled. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at June 15, 2018 01:03 PM (I2dne) 168

I could have put it better, was rushing. The bottom line is that we are in serious, SERIOUS, trouble and it does not look like there is going to be a non-nuclear solution to what ales us. We are not voting our way out of this, we are not shooting our way out of this. What needs to happen is that the perpetrators of this coup d'etat need to be smashed to bits so bad that nobody would ever attempt such an action again, but that does not look like it's going to happen. Pit Bulls are violent killing machines of death.
Some are well trained sweet and loveable violent killing machines of death, but the current breed has been bred to be a violent killing machine of death. Originally fighting and baiting dogs were bred only be murderously agressive to other dogs and animals - but not humans. Why? Because they had to be handled by strangers in the fighting and baiting pits. That's been mostly worked out of the modern Pit bull. Especially the Baltimore variety. So... not making any point here, other than there are some of those folks in Washington, like congresscritters, who may have NO IDEA what the FBI is doing, when it's not dealing with them, as congresscritters. They think because they are treated with respect and professionalism, it must mean everyone is. Obviously not. Posted by: BurtTC at June 15, 2018 01:14 PM (9chmE) 229

Yes, Pres Trump should have fired Wray, Sessions, and Rosenstein...this morning.
After that report and Wray's outrageous presser promising to punish ALL FBI agents with "more training" . Blaming them for something that their bosses should be in jail for doing. And waiting for more "reports" with conclusions telling us that "mistakes were made", but there was no illegality does not sound sane, when in the meantime we have rogue prosecutors putting people in jail, and ruining livelihoods. I think we're just going through the motions of pretending that we're still a Republic.
A republic is a form of government in which the people through democratic election choose a representative to go to government and carry out their will. The representative is elected based on their statements of intent and policy, which the people select to best support and execute the policy they desire. These people are to be no more or better than their voters, only given a limited amount of power for their term of office by the voters. With voter fraud, fixed elections, and lying representatives, who can ignore the law without penalty, how much Republic do we have left? I say its only a shell, the image of a Republic without any of its actuality. We're no longer in a Republic, we're in the next stage before tyranny, the Oligarchy: rule by the powerful and wealthy. There's no tension between addressing the calamitous scandals at DOJ/FBI and winning the mid-terms. They are parallel endeavors. But the corruption aspect is, by far, the more enduring and perilous one." Let me elaborate on why I think that, right now, the midterms are the only thing that really matters. Make an honest assessment of the situation: The Senate majority does not support Trump. It's amazing that he has been able to get them to do so much when there are really only 40 senators on his side. The House does not support Trump. Only mitigating factor is that the House is so dysfunctional that they don't support anyone and can get nothing useful done. The DOJ still does not support Trump, obviously. The FBI? Nope. The Judiciary? It will still be years before Trump has made enough appointments to get a change here. NOTHING changes as long as the deck is that stacked against him, and us. That's the Reality of our situation today - by and large, this government is still controlled by our enemies, and Trump's. He is not strong enough yet to make a very serious move against them - they still have the power to kick him out, but they're scared to use it for fear of us. IF Trump can get a Senate and a House that ACTUALLY support him, rather than just pretend to do it some of the time, he will be strong enough to start seriously moving against all the other enemies inside his government, especially those in the DOJ. THAT is why nothing matters but the midterms, right now - if we lose those elections, we lose everything. If we win, then all good things flow from that. I agree with this. I don't think Gowdy's a bad guy and the good far outweighs the bad with him. But due to his background he gives way too much deference to LE. I believe the withholding of the "We'll stop him" text from Congress really pissed him off. Posted by: Benji Carver at June 15, 2018 01:23 PM (OD2ni) I can somewhat sympathize with his predicament. He's a former prosecutor. Had he come out and say "these guys are nuts and connivers" his words - and perhaps previous cases - would cause a lot of defense lawyers to take notice. By holding his fire, he can point to only this specific instance in terms of "shaking his foundational belief" in the FBI. Posted by: Steve_in_SoCal at June 15, 2018 01:29 PM (q1VoB) 324

The fascists gotta fascist. But the modern fascists pretend they are doing it for your own good, rather than just to grind you under their boots because they want power.
Same as the original fascists. They insisted that they were creating a utopia, they were going to bring peace and prosperity and scientific advancement to the world while protecting the people and making for a better humanity. That was the reason for all their evil, they weren't doing it just to be evil or because they were jerks. They thought it was the right thing to do. utopia, they were going to bring peace and prosperity and scientific advancement to the world while protecting the people and making for a better humanity. That was the reason for all their evil, they weren't doing it just to be evil or because they were jerks. They thought it was the right thing to do. As anyone who has worked for a megacorp knows, "training" in things like "ethics" and "compliance" are often just a CYA for the organization. If someone misbehaves and implicates the organization, they can fall back on "we had instructional material provided by Party X in full accordance with the law and corporate policy. Employee 1 took this training and passed the examination at the end of it, and we can furnish those records. This is a good organization, and Employee 1 is just a bad apple. Employee 1 will be disciplined and we will ensure he retakes the enhanced version of the training material and passes all required exams if we choose to continue retaining Employee 1's services."

Of course, maybe I'm just weird, expecting people with college degrees to be able to express themselves without using 4 letter words. I didn't know Anthony Weiner was married to Hillary Clinton's long time personal assistant. I totally thought Anthony Weiner was some random dude who ended up with thousands of Huma's Government emails, including classified emails, on his computer. Since I had no idea who he was, I concluded there was nothing to be concerned about.

Allow me to rant a little. Have you seen a pic of the NY attorney general that replaced gropey mcNXIVM Schniederman? I don't care that she's not a beauty, but she looks about as professional and capable as an angry mother in law from a trailer park. What happened to the professionals who looked capable? Where did the bankers go who looked like someone you an trust your money with? What happened to laywers who looked like they knew what they were doing and were learned and capable? What on earth is going on with people these days? The whole "dress like the job you want" thing is totally gone, its sleeve tats and half shirts and yoga pants, everyone dresses like laundry day at the dorm and looks like they just stumbled out of bed. I don't want authorities who look like they're homeless guys who put on a new shirt for the sermon before their free meal. For crying out loud, you're 57 years old and in a position of authority, LOOK LIKE IT. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at June 15, 2018 01:48 PM (39g3+) 455
May be a repeat, but from The Hill:
The desire among Democrats for Obama to take a more leading role in the midterm fight and party building in general is just getting stronger, particularly with the lack of alternatives. “There’s f—ing no one else,” one frustrated Democratic strategist said. “Bill Clinton is toxic, [former President] Carter is too old, and there’s no one else around for miles.” Former President Obama has been meeting with potential 2020 contenders, according to a new report this week. They include Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), former Vice President Joe Biden, and former Gov. Deval Patrick (D-MA). The desire among Democrats for Obama to take a more leading role in the midterm fight and party building in general is just getting stronger, particularly with the lack of alternatives." There's no tension between addressing the calamitous scandals at DOJ/FBI and winning the mid-terms. My (somewhat inconsistently) conservative wife is a good focus group. She is college educated, raised middle class, 2A supporter, a dedicated Mom and entrepreneur.
Her take on the IG report was that Comey must be locked up, and that the FBI attempts to subvert an election are a Constitutional crisis. So far so good. But she is not (at present) as hair-on-fire about the larger conspiracy to subvert an election and the abuse of intelligence services, e.g. Brennan's concocted "Russia" narrative, his engineering leaks to Reid, the use of "Five Eyes" to conduct domestic political surveillance, FISA abuse, the entrapment efforts, planting informants, the leak/smear machine under Obama, Powers, etc. etc. It's a case of something being so pervasive and having so many moving parts as to defy a quick narrative. "Deep state" as a shorthand among those who follow the ins and outs just isn't getting the fuller message out there. Posted by: xnycpeasant at June 15, 2018 01:50 PM (koNhm) 458

I suspect a "deal" or a quid-pro-quo in regards to the IG report's "conclusions" vs. content. Horowitz and his investigators write the report, and Rodhamstein's people give the Dems some cover with the "conclusions".
But the wheel has f*cking well turned. Drudge links another Bloomberg piece with a concluding paragraph that states that Manafort was charged and jailed for alleged crimes that have nothing to do with the Russian Collusion investigation. That's stunning and I believe that would have never happened before the IG report was published. The MSM now knows how vulnerable they are and they are backfilling like sonsabitches. " Mueller apparently went to a Grand Jury and indicted him on the tampering charge... I don't think the Judge has even seen the evidence of his 'tampering'. Note, they are making it harder and harder, to defend yourself. Now you can't talk to witnesses... oh and they will search your Lawyer and grab all communications between you... And threaten potential witnesses with other charges... like Flynn... but then leave you hanging forever (while you pay lawyers)." To quote Mark Steyn: the process has become the punishment. If you work for the Deep State, though, the punishment is a sensitivity seminar. I would like to think it can't stand for long, but the USSR lasted seventy-plus years. Maybe we are into the Gorbachev era, to be optimistic. @396: Right as to the origins, but not sure there was an equivalency between the BD's and Jim Jones. I agree, the Clinton Administration basically proved that the FBI can do whatever the hell it pleases with zero consequences, even outright murder. When you can burn children alive in the name of saving them, and there's not even a congressional hearing to punish you... that's going to give you a pretty distorted view of your power and ability to act. >>I think, Don't go to the bank on this, but it was RR & Wray who wrote the summary. Jack Straw would probably know
I don't know for sure but I think the summaries are less important than the texts. IG reports are not intended to be charging documents. They are summaries of investigations that are intended to be used by other bodies if evidence of improper or criminal behavior is uncovered. Again, what the summaries says is that there was no documentary evidence related to political bias on any specific decision. That's a very specific statement. He wasn't saying there was no evidence of bias. The entire report is evidence of bias. But he was unable to find a smoking gun document that said something like "I want Hillary to win and Trump to lose so I am going to take this specific action". A federal prosecutor might well be able to find that smoking gun cause he has a lot more tools at his disposal including the ability to charge people with felonies if they don't cooperate. That exchange between FBIbbers about their interview of Justin Cooper helps explais why, once the FBI figured out that Cooper might not actually be the tech guy who set up the server, Brian Pagliano, the tech guy that Hillary's legal beagles told the FBI WAS who set up the server, figured he was justified in pleading declining questions and then when Congress subpoena'd Pagliano on the understanding he was who set it up, plead the 5th
Problem is, "knowing" some witness lied, in the sense of having an honest belief the witness lied, ain't the same as actually being able to prove the witness lied, including the possibility that things Cooper said to the FBI that FBIbbers assumed were material lies, may not have turned out - almost certainly DID turn out- to be BOTH material AND lies. And that appears to be what also happened here. So if Ace has a problem with all this. then his real problem is with the LAW - the legal standard that requires the government only to prosecute witnesses for lying to them when it can be proved BOTH that it's a lie AND the lie told was material to investigation. The legal standard for lying to he FBI is NOT the same as the legal standard for proving perjury in front of a Grand Jury or "petit" jury (the regular trial jury the public can watch, as well as testifying to Congress). But U NO WOT? It's never been clearly established that it was Pagliano who set up the Clintons' server. Cooper said, No me; Clinton mouthpieces told Congress and the DoJ it was Pagliano, but how the living fuck would they know UNLESS THAT'S WHAT THEIR CLIENTS told them - their clients being the Clintons. I suspect that AMO things the FBI and DoJ were concerned about in 2015-16 is they couldn't tell who TF was lying about who installed the server.
