Quote III

“We had to endure this under the Trump administration. We’re making more than $60,000 a year. We need to be doing far more important things than this. It felt like the lowest form of work you can take on without having to empty the trash cans.” Reginald Young, Jr.

Quote IV

A decline in courage may be the most striking feature, which an outside observer notices in the West in our days. The Western world has lost its civil courage, both as a whole and separately, in each country, each government, each political party, and, of course, in the United Nations. Such a decline in courage is particularly noticeable among the ruling groups and the intellectual elite, causing an impression of loss of courage by the entire society. Of course, there are many courageous individuals, but they have no determining influence on public life.Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Just wondering out loud if Syracuse University will change their name to Syracuse Red? Each and every day they are sounding more Commie and dictatorial.

Fifteen students who “roasted” each other in private were suspended for up to two years after a video of their skits leaked to Facebook several weeks later

They were found guilty of “an immediate breach of the peace” (which did not occur) and expression that went “beyond the bounds of protected speech” (it didn’t)

SYRACUSE, N.Y., June 8, 2018 — Syracuse University should know what is “protected speech.” It emblazoned the words of the First Amendment on the facade of its school of public communications. It hosts a prestigious journalism program and is a private school that promises its students robust free speech rights. Despite this, the university just suspended 15 students from an engineering fraternity for hosting a private, satirical roast that the university claims caused “an immediate breach of the peace” and went “beyond the bounds of protected speech.” Neither of these findings are true.

The ONT Musical Interlude (No Yoko For You)

June 12, 2005, Pink Floyd announced they would reunite with former bassist Roger Waters, who left the band in 1985, on July 2 for the Live 8 London concert. This would be the first time the band had played together as a quartet since The Wall tour in 1981. via thisdayinmusic.com

So what do you think of when you take Fido to the old dog park? Obviously nothing productive and/or wholesome.

If you’re a dog owner, maybe, just maybe, a couple of things that come to mind when you take ‘ol Spot to the dog park are rape culture and non-heterosexual “performativity.”

What’s that? You don’t consider such things when you’re walking the pup? No worries, then. The Portland Ungendering Research Initiative’s Helen Wilson is here to clue you in.

Her paper, “Human reactions to rape culture and queer performativity at urban dog parks in Portland, Oregon,” discusses the “emerging themes in human and canine interactive behavioral patterns in urban dog parks” in order to gain a better understanding about people’s decisions and “emergent assumptions around gender, race, and sexuality.

The term "crazy bitch" comes to mind.

Bring it on Alec. Alec Baldwin says he could be POTUS if he wants to be.

Alec Baldwin may not be satisfied merely playing the President of the United States on Saturday Night Live; instead, he may actually want the real job for himself.

On Monday, Baldwin—who won an Emmy last year for his portrayal of Donald Trump on SNL—told Howard Stern that he could beat the current Commander in Chief if he decided to run for the top office in 2020.

I'm sure that Biff Kristol and the Cucks approve of his temperament.

Paging the Donner Party IncredibleShinyShart, party of 10. Ethical cannibalism?

If you could taste human flesh in an ethical way, would you? It’s the kind of question you ask after watching Silence of the Lambs stoned. No matter how you respond, you never expect anyone to hold you to your answer. But in a recent Reddit post, user IncrediblyShinyShart shared the story of a motorcycle crash that put him face-to-face with the macabre hypothetical. When a car hit his bike and sent him careening into a nearby forest, his foot was shattered to the point that he would never walk on it again. When the doctor asked if he wanted to amputate, his one question was, “Can I keep it?

Maybe watching Yoko videos isn't so bad after all?

I fought the law beans and the beans won. Genius Award Winner.

A standoff in a Florida grocery store between a hammer-wielding suspect and local law enforcement ended in an arrest and multiple charges after one quick-thinking official dinged the suspect in the back with first one and then a second can of Bush’s extra brown sugar baked beans.

Bonus: Video included.

Tragedy averted. Cool, calm and collected and Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Jennifer Potter, the assistant manager of the apartment complex, was riding by the pool in a golf cart on Wednesday, when she saw a small child alone in the deep end.

Potter said she jumped off the cart and "took my shoes off while still running and just dove right into the pool."

But when she reached the child she saw the boy's pregnant mother submerged under him. The mother had jumped into the pool earlier to try and save her son.

I'm pretty sure this is a hoax. The journal is real, but I can't find a "feminist scholar" named Helen Wilson, and the The Portland Ungendering Research Initiative appears to be a fictitious organization (it has a web page with no content in it, and no other evidence of its existence, other than the reference in the paper).

As a Sokal-style hoax, it is expertly done - throwing in the reference to Portland was just icing on the cake.

In the original trailer it was revealed that Mr. Incredible had to become a stay at home dad while Mrs. Incredible was recruited to go out and save the day and rehabilitate the image of super heroes. The trailer featured Mr. Incredible struggling with the simple tasks of taking care of children while his wife was out in the world acting heroic. I guess that, just as there are certain types who go into politics, there are certain types who marry politicians.
And Mrs. Sanford was not.... typical.
-------------------------

IIRC, it was a second offense with the same woman. She'd forgiven him after the first time. And iirc, she was initially willing to let it go after the second time. But then he gave the speech where he blathered on about how his girlfriend was his soul mate, and Mrs. Sanford went ahead and threw him out of the Governor's Mansion.

Mrs. Edwards was another who let her husband have it after his affair came to light. Of course, she was dying at the time. So she likely had a slightly different view of things than most wives of politicians.

The books are fictional stories about historical people who really existed. There really was a D'Artagnan, for instance, although the details likely don't match up too well with what Dumas wrote. And there really was a man in an iron mask, although to this day no one knows exactly why.

The first book is pretty good. My recollection of the second book is that it got rather dull for long stretches. But it's been quite a while since I read it. And the version of the third book that I read was the "good parts" version that had much of the content cut in order to focus on the story of the Man in the Iron Mask.

What's up with the French naming a stadium/tennis tournament after a guy int he military. You would think that the French would want to forget all of their military folks (seeing how they did nothing but lose). Except for Napoleon, of course. Sanford is a total dick and a sleaze but he was fairly conservative. Meadow's comment is not an endorsement of his private life OR his TDS. That being said Meadows, while conservative, is much more likely to bow to establishment wishes than Jordan or Brat. I wish he were not the face of the Freedom Caucus.

Sanford used to be a very decent conservative. After he got caught hiking the Appalachian trail everything changed. It was a real shame because he was good. Then it all went to shit.

The Freedom Caucus has had more than a few missteps over the years but it was started by a rock solid Tea Party conservative - Jim Jordan and is still the best thing we have in the House. Jordan, BTW, was a fantastic college wrestler, two time NCAA champ and one of those he beat John Smith (Olympic gold medalist and one of the greatest American wrestlers, ever). He could probably kick anyone's ass on the Hill.

304 Here's the difference between wagyu and Kobe beef...

Kobe is the "capital" of Hyohgo Prefecture. That's the farm country of Japan, its breadbasket, so to speak. It's like Nebraska or Iowa to them.

That region is most famous for its beef. It's said that the ranchers massage their cows with whiskey. I don't know if that's actually true, but Kobe beef is very well marbled, with veins of fat running all through it. It's extremely high-quality beef, and strict import/export restrictions mean it's generally not available here in the US. If you see a restaurant here offering, say, "Kobe beef sliders" or something like that, it's not actually Kobe beef. If you go to a high-end steakhouse and they're offering a Kobe steak for, like, $100, well, that might actually be Kobe beef. But it also might not.

Some restaurants instead offer "wagyu" beef. Wagyu literally means "Japanese-style beef". It's not Kobe beef, so describing it as "Japanese-style" is literally meaningless.

It was wagyu beef that Obama was always eating. "Wagyu" doesn't actually mean anything as far as quality, which makes it a perfect metaphor for the Obama Presidency.

This involves 125+ Sanfords being retired (including Senate GOP). This is, um, hard to do. And there's no one or powerful entity even trying to do it.

386 340 Outback inspires some crazy loyalty, man.

Posted by: Cicero (@cicero) at June 12, 2018 11:47 PM (FsRTQ)

Passing by the obvious (and funny) snark, this:

Outback is a Florida based chain, promoting a pseudo-Aussie format in which to sell a variety of steaks, seafood, burgers, chicken and more.

Texas Roadhouse offers a clearly superior variety of cuts of beef, as well as burgers, chicken and more.

Here's the thing.

Sirloin vs. Sirloin....

The Outback steak TASTES better, even if the cut isn't as elegant as the Texas Roadhouse offering.

It's the Outback seasonings, and the sear on the meat from pan/griddle contact, that resonates.

Conversely, the Texas Roadhouse steak lacks the succulent flavor of the Outback, but offer more ounces per dollar, a flame-seared finish and a buttery basting applied while cooking... it's GOOD, (very good), but I tend to take my dining dollars to Outback, just for that flavor.

Ideally?

Walk an uncooked Texas Roadhouse sirloin over to the Outback kitchen, and turn 'em loose with it.

Tie-breaker.

Texas Roadhouse wins the waitress wars by any measure. Not even a contest.

I actually prefer Medium rare, if it is cooked right, but past experience has taught me to order medium, just to be on the safe side when ordering a larger cut of meat (except at the aforementioned steakhouse in Texas.)

When we finally were served (it was a long wait) the steak was Well Done. Still juicy, but no trace of pink.

I did not send it back (one, hungry and two, it took forever to get our food the first time.) Plus, I have not eaten a well done steak in around 20 years (my grandfather broke me of that one long ago.) It was not bad, per se, but it just felt off.

Constitutionalist.

And no, not the group of well-meaning poseurs pretending to be a Party.

Just simply, a deep, personal and fully committed dedication to protect, defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States.

Exactly as meant, when written, too.

We have on record, ALL of the debates of the Constitutional Committees during the Conventions which led us from the Articles of Confederation, to the Constitution as ratified.

It would be nothing for Congress to pass a law, demanding that the Supreme Court be BOUND to pass judgments in light of not only the inked letter of the law, but from the winning side (ONLY) of the debates that led to the particular Article, Section of Amendment in question.

Stare Decisis is the antithesis of a Representative Democracy, aka Republic.

Taken as a whole, judges get it wrong just as often as we folk... though I'd wager that the lefties weigh down the average on their side, while the textualists/originalists/Constitutionalists, get it right a bit more, even of only by a couple points, here n' there.

We used to learn this stuff all through primary and secondary education. It used to be baked into the cake.

Wonder what changed, since then?

420 Mike Hammer: that is because, at the time, those people you mention *had* failed the test. Later many of those people turned around and attempted to pass it again.

Sanford was the one who passed it and, then, turned around and failed it. al-A`mash is another example (also refused to denounce the 'gay marriage' abomination btw).

421 I'm sure that high-end 5-oz filet is really good, but my not-so-cultured ass will enjoy each bite of that 16-oz cut just about as much, and I'll find the whole experience all the more satisfying just for getting that full pound of good grilled beef.

422 So, this past Mother's day, Mom wanted to go out to eat- Outback. So we went out. Mom got a sirloin, well done. I ordered a porterhouse, medium.

I have had only one Filet Mignon steak that was worth the price of admission.

Tiny little restaurant on Fredricksburg Rd., in San Antonio. Owned and operated by a two-star Michelin rated chef from Belgium.

That wee eight ounce filet... I quite literally could cut it with a spoon, and did. Just to put it to the test.

The flavor was beyond compare, it was amazing.

He plated it with a small dipping cup holding a couple ounces of a slightly altered bernaise sauce.

You'd think that wouldn't go with such a steak.

You would be wrong.

Mind blowingly good, it was.

Place was called "Matter of Time". Aptly named.

You needed to set aside three hours or so to dine there.

It WAS worth the wait, but evidently, not enough people agreed with me, so now it's gone.

438 Thanks. I didn't get much sleep last night and today was a crazy day at work so I can't stay up much longer. Long story very short: I work at one of three consulting companies that the county allows my client to use. Today, we found out there are legal issues with one of those consulting companies. As a result, with no warning to my client or any of that consulting company's consultants, they were let go. This left all of us with very knowledgeable people in very crucial positions suddenly gone. It was a lot to take in. One of which in my area was very crucial. A very little bit of back ground here on my career. I've been in Information Technology for over 30 years. I have over 12 years in the healthcare industry and working with a specific Health Care Insurance Claims Processing System. I have About 20 years with Microsoft SQL Server. Finding someone that has all these things combined is very rare. Now today, I found out a developer that has been in the healthcare industry about twice as long as me, has almost as much time as I in this one product, and has been in IT as long as me and is as good as me (if not better) in software development is gone. For the first time in a long time I am having to fill someone's shoes that I was in awe of. This at the age of 56 (at the end of the month). Wow. For the first time in a long time I'm feeling overwhelmed at just the prospect !

I think a lot of it stems from accepting the media's portrayal of Trump without question too. If Trump wants somebody like Sanford gone, they think it's all about ego, Trump can't handle a little criticism, and don't consider maybe Trump had a point that Sanford was undermining his agenda and hurting his efforts to MAGA, which is precisely what he said. Instead they tried to defend him, and yet the question remained, if Sanford was so conservative and wanted to MAGA, why did he vote AGAINST Trump nearly half the time? A few democrats in Congress actually voted more often for Trump's agenda than he did. It's embarrassing.

I don't consider his NYC biz promotionalism schtick, when he talks, boorish - it's sort of hilarious, and very very American.

But the really striking thing, both inspiring and depressing at the same time, is his political integrity. As a Baptist myself, it hurts my heart, yet at the same time, this has been prophesied, a falling away of the Church, as one of the signs of His return.

As the SBC is the largest Protestant denomination, and the most reviled by the left, I'm surprised it took this long.

585 I see rosenstein is panicking and is now calling on Congress to investigate the staffers that he threatened.

His office is claiming there never were any threats and the staffers should be subject to questioning by his office and forced to produce all relevant emails they have of the threats he didn't make.

This is gonna be fun.

587 >>Splitting California would simply give Democrats four additional Senators, they would have a total of six.

Yep. The split is not the solution.

588 >>To keep senate at 100, we could combine RI and Conn, then they might be a least a county

So RI and CT residents are punished for CA Democrats destroying the state?

Posted by: Lizzy at June 13, 2018 07:04 AM (W+vEI)

589 Given that Charles is an idiot but when he visited Israel it was as a private trip. Phillip's mother is buried there and his trip was private also.

QE11 has never set foot in Israel in any capacity.

590 Take my senators, please!

591 Mornin' Horde. Only solution for California is return it to Territory status and tell them they get statehood back when they learn to be responsible and sane again. Figure that will take a couple of generations, but hey, sometimes you gotta put misbehaving children in time-out.

592 Morning all, I also look forward to JJ's morning entry.

593 If Cali gets to split into 3 states then Georiga can too. The state of Atlanta and then two red states.

They've more than earned their own spanking

596 Really, the problem is that stupid Supreme Court ruling whose name I forget that basically keeps the states from mimicking the Electoral College in their own internal elections. It basically guarantees the cities run roughshod over the rest of states and results in things like California, New York, Illinois, etc.

597 Creeper glad to hear your cutting board got squared away. How many blocks did it take? I am kind of a wood nut unfortunately.

598 Clutch!

I did what you said...sprayed concave side with water and weighted it down with two big rocks and a tank of kitty litter. Added one thing...I buttressed both sides with concrete block, thinking that would help discourage cracking. It worked like magic. Thank you SO much.

599 Creep you might want to seal the end grain with polyurethane if you have any.
