Keith Ellison Announces Run for Minnesota AG; May Step Down From Party Leadership

It could be that Keith Ellison no longer believes the Democrats will sweep to power in November.

But apparently he doesn't like being under Minority Leader Tom Perez.

The firebrand lawmaker announced his candidacy on Twitter as he filed papers for his campaign.

It's not clear whether Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, will resign his House seat early or retire at the end of his current term. However, he likely will need to resign his post with the national party, where he is vice chairman.
...
A recent Politico report suggested Ellison might have been looking for a way out of the DNC. The report noted he’s been "chafing" in his role as deputy to Tom Perez, who beat him for the chairmanship in party elections.

That was Sunday night though. This was Monday night. Sometimes I wonder just what the hell my brain is thinking. I can't tell you how many nights I have dreams that I am drowning. I also had a dream last night that someone was robbing my house and threw a knife into my arm.

FYI I have had seven hours of sleep since Saturday. Insomnia sucks. And makes the brain think really weird shit.

Minnesota is a weird state.

Ellison has always been pushed by national Democrats and media as an up-and-coming leader, but I'm not convinced that he'll survive a statewide race.

Rural liberals might be more quietly reluctant to vote for him than folks assume.

That's not how they do things in Minnesota. Suburban and rural liberals won't vote against Ellison per se. They'll just leave that portion of the ballot blank. It's one thing to give him an inner city US House seat that can be yanked away every two years. It's another thing entirely to make him the chief law officer of the entire state.
