Through invitation-only emails and private, off-the-record meetings, they have formed a loose network of cross-partisan alliances aimed at helping neutralize President Trump, and preventing others from capitalizing on weaknesses in the political system that they say he has exploited. While this network has mostly eschewed electoral politics, some involved see the potential for it to help form an ideological -- and possibly financial --platform to back candidates, including a centrist challenge to Mr. Trump in 2020, possibly from within the G.O.P. or even a third party. The network -- composed of overlapping groups led by Democrats such as the donor Rachel Pritzker and several veteran Obama administration operatives, as well as leading Never Trump Republicans like Evan McMullin, Mindy Finn and William Kristol -- aims to chart a middle path between a Republican base falling in line behind Mr. Trump and a liberal resistance trying to pull the Democratic Party left. ... The group has held three two-day gatherings outside San Francisco, New York and Washington, to which Ms. Pritzker and her political adviser invited 20 to 40 people per meeting. In my town, our State Representative in Austin is young, beat out an old fart, is very conservative, and has pissed off the local CofC republicans. So a couple years ago they got together this big campaign to primary him with this local businessman, one of their CofC buddies, put all kinds of money into it, signs, ads - and then on primary day, the CofC candidate lost badly, because no one except his business buddies voted for him.
But THAT wasn't the worst of it, for them. A state rep is usually expected to be the go-to guy for anyone who needs help with the State Gov. in Austin, but once the CofC stepped out and declared themselves his enemy, do you think he will lift a finger to help anyone who tried to boot him out? Nope, so now they got nothing.
And now this year, he's running unopposed in the general. You assholes screwed up, thanks to your treachery, you now got nobody in Austin who will even give you the time of day. Suck on it, asswipes.

This. I have said it before, but I think it bears repeating. The deep state might not realize this, but Trump is one of the better possible outcomes. Trump, for all of his bombast and efficacy, is a *reformer.* He by no means appears to be a destroyer.
But if these people successfully subvert democracy and make reform impossible even when playing by their crooked rules (or more accurately perhaps non-rules), they'll find destroyers willing to take up the reformer's mantle.
A destroyer would be a "very bad thing" for everyone. A reformer might be able to keep the wheels from flying off. The left and the deep state need to consider this.

We're where we are at because they've totally lost touch with reality and have zero idea about what we actually think. That Noonan article Ace linked to yesterday, dated from back in 2016, shows she got it. I think she won a Pulitzer for her articles that year. Tucker Carlson was another one who picked up on it fairly early on as well.
No one else ever did and even now refuses to even entertain and inkling of taking our mood or demands into consideration.
I remember the articles in 2016 from Intrepid Explorers of the Dirt People who went into the wilds of a Trump rally to find out what these strange, lesser beings were going on about.

These represent my fear. I can't imagine believing "death to everyone" is superior to disempowerment (I suspect the wealth is actually secondary, and it is often quite modest). I guess this is why I am not in their club.
And I also don't think the real deep statists will ever acknowledge this. Thus my hope that they can be routed out of government and sent packing in the name of reform and despite their kicking and screaming. Otherwise, there is a decent chance of a terribly bloody outcome (that I would very much like to *not* see).

Good point ... except in my view, it is the politics of the establishment, versus the politics of the people. The establishment is essentially pay to play commie on both "parties". They serve BigMoney, which seems more political to me than cultural.
The equivocating over the R versus D talking points at the DC level is just dividing up the spoils of war, since they have defeated the Republic (as DC currently functions at least) and serve themselves and their oligarchs from the fatted lambs ... the sheep and milked cows being We the People.

Why does the pretentious POS put it in Latin at all?
It's not a Latin proverb. It doesn't come from any Latin author.
This is like Obama with his Tolly-bahn and "authentic" (often incorrect) pronunciations.
And BTW, no one with any facility in Latin would use that word order. It's not gramatically wrong, mind you, but it sounds awkward not to put the verb last.
