The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it. Frederic Bastiat

Quote II

Always love your country - but never trust your government! Robert Novak

Quote III

Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own. Robert A. Heinlein

Speaking of Maxine. It appears this upstanding and reputable Congress critter isn't as pure as the wind driven snow.

Citizens for Waters has already paid $42,862 to the congresswoman’s daughter, Karen Waters, since the beginning of 2017, FEC files show. The campaign is scheduled to pay the younger Waters another $65,000 for her “professional services” working on a “slate mailer,” according to the most recent FEC files.

Who says the US Navy can not make chicken salad out of chicken shit?

What does it look like when the military is told to "make it happen" for political ends, knows it isn't possible, but with a squinted eye and a bit of creative painting makes it look like they're following orders?

Has NetFlix jumped the political shark? One subscriber thinks so.

Given that I’m a conservative, one might be inclined to believe my choice to leave Netflix is predicated upon the company’s most recent decision to partner with Barack and Michelle Obama’s new company, called “Higher Ground Productions,” to produce loads of new content. And in a way, I guess that’s correct. But this choice by Netflix has not alone led me to this decision. Rather, this was the straw that finally broke the camel’s back -- the latest in a series of indicators that the network has become little more than a propaganda arm for radical left-wing political actors.

I'll give it a wait and see look.

The class clown graduates. Wait, he wasn't in the class?.

Local comedian Jaron Myers heard all you had to do to walk across the stage at graduation was hand a piece of paper with your name on it to the person announcing the graduates to the crowd.

So he decided he was going to give it the ol' college try.

The Mount Vernon native, who flunked out of Evangel and has never been enrolled at Missouri State, bought a cap and gown before Friday's graduation ceremonies and walked across the JQH Arena stage.

Well, that certainly is a way to minimize those student loans.

Do tax laws influence behavior? Just ask Craig Mitchell of Yoker, Glasgow.

A man took a 300-mile round trip to evade Scotland's new minimum alcohol pricing law.

Craig Mitchell, from Yoker, Glasgow, drove down to Carlisle in the North of England to get his hands on his favourite Hawksridge Cider.

In Scotland, the beverage jumped from £2.15 for a two-litre bottle to £5.75 following the introduction of the controversial legislation.

Now, a 50p minimum price per unit is in place. The move has effectively banned cheap deals on booze in Scotland.

A man and his girlfriend have been busted in Florida for joyriding in a motorized shopping cart from Walmart to a local dive bar.

Surveillance video at a Walmart in Largo captured Jeffry Sabiel, 50, and Santa Walters, 32, stealing the shopping cart reserved for handicapped customers, Largo Patch reported.

Not only did he piss off the police, he screwed up munchie hours at this fast food joint. Genius Award Winner.

Deputies were called to the Wendy's on U.S. 1 at approximately 7:18 p.m. Saturday.

Weber was on the roof of the restaurant making threats, according to a police report.

A deputy climbed a ladder on the building to try to make contact with Weber, but he stood over the ladder and raised a large block of wood over the deputy's head, saying he would hit him, according to the report.

The deputy jumped down from the ladder and Weber remained on the rooftop for approximately 4 1/2 hours, the report said.

50 westminsterdogshow - whenever you show up - I missed your question about the primary until after you bounced last night.

The short answer is: the primaries are held on June 26. The last to register/withdraw/change party affiliation is May 29.

However, The Dems jammed through a law a couple years back making Colorado (as of this year) an open primary by mail in ballot. Also, to make things better, the unaffiliated voters (who vote overwhelmingly Dem in CO) will be receiving BOTH party ballots.

They are obligated to return only one, but this is essentially enforced on the honor system - unless some kind of complaint or issue arose with the Secretary of State, there is little the Parties can do to even know who's double-balloting in the primary.

Effectively, if you are Republican, you're primary vote is worthless in statewide races. Democrat voters will now hold the "swing vote" in Republican nominations to Senate, Governor's Mansion, and White House.

So, if you are deeply invested in the success of your state legislators and/or HoR member, you need to be a registered Republican. However, if these are not so important (or you deem them to be pretty-much uncontested in either direction), consider withdrawing party membership next week, so that you can obtain both ballots (or a ballot of your choosing, if you vote in person).

I will be voting in the Democrat primary this year, as I see my Republican vote as no longer relevant. For what little it's worth, I'd like to assist them in electing their worst candidates.

It really sounds like the Obama Administration was hoping to plant some of Hillary's possibly classified emails on Mr. Caputo. Imagine if he did take the emails?

The problem in Chechnya was viewed as one caused by outsiders and traitors.

I've been there. Those people have 500 year old grudges that they can document.

To a (much lesser...) extent, they're an integral part of every nation's identity - except maybe the US (and *possibly* Canada). There is also a lovely romantic theme, used on the fighter jets and June Allyson.
Victor Young was a top-flight composer at the the time (he would die, fairly young and quite unexpectedly, the next year), had a hot jazz band in the 30's, an wrote a few standards: Ghost of A Chance, Around The World in 80 Days, and -- win the beer bet with this one -- the Elvis hit that's the theme from an Ayn Rand movie, Love Letters Straight From Your Heart.

[i
Bardot expressed support for President Charles de Gaulle in the 1960s. Her husband Bernard d'Ormale is a former adviser of the Front National, the main far right party in France, known for its nationalist and conservative beliefs.

In her 1999 book Le Carré de Pluton ("Pluto's Square"), Bardot criticizes the procedure used in the ritual slaughter of sheep during the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha. Additionally, in a section in the book entitled, "Open Letter to My Lost France", Bardot writes that "my country, France, my homeland, my land is again invaded by an overpopulation of foreigners, especially Muslims". For this comment, a French court fined her 30,000 francs in June 2000. She had been fined in 1997 for the original publication of this open letter in Le Figaro and again in 1998 for making similar remarks.
Bardot in Nice, 2002.

In her 2003 book, Un cri dans le silence ("A Scream in the Silence"), she warned of an "Islamicization of France", and said of Muslim immigration:

Over the last twenty years, we have given in to a subterranean, dangerous, and uncontrolled infiltration, which not only resists adjusting to our laws and customs but which will, as the years pass, attempt to impose its own.

421 One of the things habitually dredged up to hate Henry Ford for is that he didn't want different ethnicities in his plants to get too close to each other. This is always taken as a technique for his goons to drive an anti-union wedge between natural allies, or as a means to enforce his spikka-da-hinglish melting pot system. I have come to disagree with this.
Last spring I spent several hours with a hale and hearty former employee of a very big car company in South Bend ("I don't believe I have to say their name" as the politician says in O Brother), getting the real inside story on how the shop culture operated on the sixth floor of a huge assembly plant in the 1950's.
The secret of labor satisfaction there was that each shop, dashboards, seat frames, upholstery, what-have-you, had a senior ethnic local leader as steward, and you couldn't bid out of your national background, althoough the UAW contract of course did not menion anything about it. If the foreman had a complaint, he didn't discipline the individual employee. He went to the community leader.
This guy, an extremely un-disgruntled survivor, said you'd be surprised how well that system worked, "considering." But you have to bear in mind that the whole town was segregated the same way: if you wanted to date a girl from a different national neighborhood, you had to have some friends there, meet the right elders, things that seem strange to us now.
This was a company that was pretty well-known for making some opportunities for people widely segregated against in that era, but you can see there would have been only limited opportunities for anyone outside their ethnic structure. It hung together a surprisingly long time.
I saw a similar system emphatically not working at the old Jeep plant during the years I did sub-contract labor there. Of course you over-hire, and depend on cost-plus budgets and different kinds of protection from competition, but the worst part is that after the first generation of guys, things go downhill and the groups start to cover up drunks and druggies.

BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WTHR) - A big heads-up for Beech Grove residents, especially if you have small pets.

A resident is warning neighbors that his 14-foot Burmese python got out last week and police say there's still no sign of it.

Benny Tarplee says "Vine" got out the back door of his house five days ago in the 400 block of Byland Avenue. He calls the python a big baby and says she's probably hiding somewhere right now.

The question is where.

473 @430 As we've noted - nothing says 'an unbreakable bond of free peoples' quite as well as a battalion of armor rolling in from the Elder Brother to the east.
-------------------

Not just the elder brother to the east...

I've got the video game Hearts of Iron IV. It's a "grand strategy game" set during the period immediately prior to and during World War 2. And there are mechanisms in place that attempt to emulate certain historical actions like the Anschloss, what happened to the Czechs, the Second Vienna Award, etc...

Or in short, Germany, Italy, and the Soviets basically take turns eating up chunks of Eastern Europe. And there's nothing that the Eastern European countries can do about any of it because they all know that they'll lose badly in a war.

And then, of course, there's the historical bite-chunking of Romania not only by the Soviets (Besarabia), but also the Hungarians and Bulgarians.

Regarding Caputo and the "2nd informant", some alt media (Daily Wire?) followed up and talked to Caputo, his friend who was the intermediary, and the govt. contractor. Appears to be a nothingburger/misunderstanding. Contractor had no special info on Clinton emails, no connection to NSA or FBI. Three-part comms, apparently a version of "telephone" where things got jumbled. Just to drizzle some cool water on that hot topic - which leaves a super-abundance of other outrageous, historic crimes that are coming into view with each passing week.

Nope. She's still in a lot of pain but now I have different stuff to give her.

His mom is a family friend that got no support from her own family, so moved in here briefly. Decided that I'd do as a grampa for her kid, and I'm happy to play the role. Then she got a full tuition scholarship up in Oregon, and so moved back in here again to save some money for the move.
Move time is now here.
