Suspect in Santa Fe Shooting Has Trenchcoat Adorned With Symbols of Imperial Japanese Kamikazes, Baphomet (a Devil), Cthulhu, the Soviet Hammer and Sickle, and the German Wehrmacht Iron Cross

Hmmm... I wonder which of those the media will play up: the Satanist or Communist symbols, or the Iron Cross?

It's a mystery to me. Could go either way!!!

BTW, although the Iron Cross was used by Nazis as a decoration in war, it is actually older and dates to King Freiderich Wilhelm III. It was a Prussian symbol, and later a decoration of the German Empire in World War One. (Hence, the WWI biplanes sporting it.)

There is no such ambiguity of meaning in the case of the Communist hammer and sickle or the devil Baphomet.

Baphomet has an interesting history, being the devil the Knights Templar were (likely falsely) accused of worshipping, which resulted in the arrest and torture of the Templars on Friday the 13th of October 1307. Baphomet may be a corruption of "Mahomet," which in turn could be a corruption of Mohammad; it could be that the Templars (who'd spent years in Islamic lands) incorporated some Islamic icons into their religion.

Which would indeed be blasphemous, yet not quite the same as devil-worship.

And I don't buy that anyway. Yeah I know the business about "going native" but...

I've always just thought they probably captured Islamic icons as spoils of war and kept them on display, as a military order might, and this display of the enemy's stolen idols got misreported as them worshiping those idols.

The Wikipedia page notes that the Templars had a couple of reliquaries (containers for the body parts of venerated persons such as saints), which had the bodliy relics -- heads, specifically -- of a couple of Christian saints inside them (yeah, that kind of thing went on a lot back then and wasn't considered heretical or anything). So one theory is that reliquaries for the heads of Christian saints were mistaken for idols of the devil's face.

One could imagine someone easily mistaking something that looks like this or like this for a blasphemous occult object.

That Wikipedia page offers a lot of theories about what "Baphomet" is and how it came to be. A lot of interesting speculation for something I'm pretty sure was either a mistaken interpretation or knowing slander (or a bit of both).

But for Current Year young people, "Baphomet" is almost certainly just taken to be a devil -- if not the Devil -- the goat-headed devil frequently seen in Crowely-era "magick" books and whose horned head is drawn within upside-down pentagrams.

None of that matters; they'll focus on the Iron Cross.

Sorry to go all off on the Templars. I just think there was a lot of #FakeNews about them and a Deep State agents of French king Philippe IV framed them with salacious and unverified dossiers. Might have had something to do with them being very rich, having invented banking and all.

Update: I saw an article claiming the shooter carried an "AR-15-style" weapon -- what's that?

This article says he carried a sawed-off shotgun and pistol. Doesn't mention an AR-15-style weapon.

Maybe he took Joe Biden's advice and "got a shotgun."

Another Symbol To Be Ignored:

1, but when did that start? I understand it was not ALWAYS the rule that you couldn't depict mohammad. There are drawings of him in earlier Islamic books.

2, it wouldn't necessarily even be Mohammad. It could just be the head of a statue of a bearded Islamic warrior or emir. Like college kids stealing street signs, they whack off the head and relocate it to their Batcave of War Trophies.

86 BTW, although the Iron Cross was used by Nazis as a decoration in war, it is actually older and dates to King Freiderich Wilhelm III. It was a Prussian symbol, and later a decoration of the German Empire in World War One. (Hence, the WWI biplanes sporting it.)

Weren't there German Jewish WWI vets who thought, "Nah, they'd never kill me, I'm a patriotic war hero. I was awarded the Iron Cross"?

Also, what if we could prove, without a doubt, that social media was responsible for 90% of these shootings. Does anyone think we would get rid of social media?

So far, all studies on the impact of social media on children and society have been negative. No one has even suggested we get rid of it.

On-line porn has also started to be proven as negative, especially to developing boys. And definitely to reality and relationships. Are we gonna get rid of that?

I'm not sure what I'm saying, except that society is very selective in what they want to jettison, based more on feelings then fact. But then again, humanity is nutz.

Actually - a lot of Templars were able to disapear as the hammer was falling. Top leadership was rounded up, but most of the lower levels vanished, as did most of the Templar's treasure. That was what pissed Phillip off more than anything.

152 The Gaelic (or Celtic) cross is a Christian cross with the arms of the cross linked by a halo-like circle used in Early Christian Ireland and Scotland. I always figured it was because it was easier to carve a cross's arms out of rock that way but I've no evidence of that. And, yeah, the White Power types have appropriated it. (The real Celtic ones usually feature dice and roosters too referencing the Roman soldiers casting lots for Christ's cloak; and the rooster about St Peter denying Christ three times.)

Odin's cross is different although I think Euro neonazis use it.

165 It's pretty simple. Phillip IV had the Templars killed because he owed them money and thought them too powerful. Most of the crap you posted comes from the effort to destroy them. He needed a pretext, but he also needed a reason to wipe them from peoples memory. So he spread rumors for which there is really no evidence, or for which the "evidence" is questionable or due to another explanation. He did his work well. There are still people today repeating this utter nonsense.

The fingers form the Hebrew letter "shin" which also means "the power of G-d." 264 So CNN had one of the weirdest links on this shooting. Under the main headline was a series of related articles, including an opinion piece on why Americans don't do anything following mass shootings. The URL had the date 2017/11/06, and the article had an update of February 2018. Did they just want an anti-gun opinion piece so badly that they just dredge one up from several months ago? This article, despite being edited, still lists the Texas church shooting as being perpetrated with an AR-556 rifle!

Then, the author (Mel Robbins), has other articles on gun control with CNN, such as a 2014 one about the problem being mental health, and not the NRA or lax gun control. Not sure what brainwashed her in the interim, but something got her on the "Is it enough? No. Will it stop the next shooter? Perhaps. What we do know is doing nothing is no longer acceptable. And we have to start somewhere." bandwagon (quote from her 2016 CNN gun control article).

"Continental" Freemasonry, also called OTO (for Ordre Templus Orientalus, or something like that), which I think started in france, is anti-clerical and I think officially atheist. Or tends towards atheism. I don't know if it's a requirement.

The two split at some point.

Pretty sure 90% of American freemasonry is scottish rite. Though I googled one time and saw there are OTO lodges here and there in America. Rare things, though.

The Swiss mercenaries were famed as tough fighters. However, if they didn't paid on time, they would leave. Hence, the old saying, "No money, no Swiss."

From what I've read, when the Swiss and landsknecht pikemen fought each other, it was pretty savage. The Swiss hated their imitators and the landsknecht wanted to prove that they were just as good as the Swiss.

The Saiga-12 is a 12-gauge shotgun available in a wide range of configurations, patterned after the Kalashnikov series of rifles and named for the Saiga antelope. Like the Kalashnikov rifle variants, it is a rotating bolt, gas-operated gun that feeds from a box magazine. All Saiga-12 configurations are recognizable as Kalashnikov-pattern guns by the large lever-safety on the right side of the receiver, the optic mounting rail on the left side of the receiver and the large top-mounted dust cover held in place by the rear of the recoil spring assembly.

After watching the sh*tshow of Mueller, McCabe, Strozk, and their pals, and the absolute refusal of every "great FBI agent" to step up to corruption and MAKE A DAMNED ARREST, my faith in the FBI, INCLUDING the "rank and file agents" to uphold the law when their own are the corrupt ones is exceedingly, historically low.
Either step up and do your job, "rank and file", or you are just as corrupt as Mueller, McCabe, and pals.

yes. It's originally an Indian luck symbol. German mystics borrowed it because of their racial belief in a mystical connections to the Aryans (an Indian group).

Given that kung fu derived from an early style of Indian conditioning and fighting, I would guess they borrowed the symbol from the same source.

421 Just a heads up - Muslims don't have icons. They reject utterly any and all pictorial depictions of anything (or, at least, they're supposed to). There's even a story in the hadith of Mohammad refusing to enter a house that had pillows decorated with stitched pictures of birds. That's why Islamic art is all script (never mind that that's just another graphic depiction of something, just in a different form. That is, it's a written icon instead of a drawn picture that we typically think of as an icon).

The pagan stuff is not Catholic dogma, but much of it was, indeed, "baptized." Nothing wrong with accepting what people like if it doesn't conflict with the Gospel.

And if you want to see something curiously Catholic, come to the Easter Vigil Mass, where we dip a huge lit candle into a font of holy water three times. It's all about fecundity, fertility, and sex, and it is also holy as all get out. Also, Catholics are not allowed to withhold sex from their spouses without a compelling reason--you gotta do it to get to heaven.

I think the word you were looking for is "legalized." Until he said it was legal to be Christian, any number of Emperors felt free to blame everything on Christians and burn them or torture them or kill them because they wouldn't worship the Emperor.

Christianity was "legitimized" by Jesus Christ, a slightly higher authority.

461 Freemasonry is prohibited to Catholics because Freemasons are simply gnostic heretics with a bunch of arcane symbols and rubrics.

All secret societies are so prohibited for Catholics.

The Mormons incorporate most of the Freemasonry symbols and rubrics, and are not Christians in the same way Freemasons are not.
Posted by: tcn in AK at May 18, 2018 03:57 PM (7UW64)

Other than the bit about Mormonism (I know nothing about them), you are almost completely incorrect in everything you wrote. Freemasonry is not a religion and all of my Christian brethren would be surprised to discover that you think they are heretics.

Freemasonry utilizes the stone mason's tools as symbols of good character and most of the rituals revolve around the building of King Solomon's Temple. Freemasonry is open to all men of good character that believe in a monotheistic Supreme Being. The rituals are merely allegories, not religious ceremonies.

There are Freemasons that are Catholics. The Papal Bull prohibiting membership is largely ignored. Freemasonry takes no position regarding a brother's religion as long as it monotheistic. The Catholic church's problem with Freemasonry boils down to the issue that Freemasonry doesn't regard Catholicism as the only correct religion.

I write this as a Freemason that is a Catholic. I also agree with your posts 99% of the time.

470 Christ was probably born in Spring, iirc. When Constantine made his Christianity declaration, the Pagan holidays were then changed to Christian holidays. So some maintained elements of paganism.

However, Christmas customs as we know it, is mostly related to King Albert who brought his German customs over into England when he married Queen Victoria. Which, by extension, we adopted. I learned this stuff decades ago, but I'm somewhere in the ballpark.

486 The bible is full of references that there is no mediator between God and man besides Christ Jesus.

OT your only commune with God was through offering a "perfect sacrifice" which a priest took, slaughtered and went behind the veil in the Temple to commune on your behalf.

NT after Christ, the Perfect Sacrifice died, the veil was rent in two. Thus creating our mediator between God and man.

No where in scripture is praying to another person who has sinned and was destined for hell except for the Grace of God and the Perfect Sacrifice even suggested.

When Mary was approached when they ran out of wine at the wedding her only response was "go do what my Son tells you". She didnt mediate except to point you to Jesus.

The fact that some Catholics ignore the prohibition does not make it less compelling.

Freemasonry has "secrets" that they pass along at the various "levels" of achievement, not all of which are available to those in lower groups. Some of those "secrets" deal with the origin of the universe, the way Gods (plural) work in that universe, and other odd things that contradict Catholic dogma.

The prohibition was not reached lightly. Freemasons are anti-Catholic.

YMMV.

The priests light a fire, many times somewhere outside the entrance to the church, while all gather. The church has been darkened, any statues of saints covered, the great organ has not played and the Gloria has not been sung (all since Good Friday). The great candle is lit, the parishioners light their candles from it as it traverses the narthex, into the knave and onto the altar. All process into the church filling the pews and church with light. The mass begins somberly with all holding candles. At the time in the mass when the celebrant gets to the "Gloria", all lights are lit, the great organ plays (symbolizing Christ being risen from the dead ) and it's simply divine.

Constantine saw the Chi Rho the P and X symbol that the Catholics still use. Constantine more than legalized Christianity, he made it the primary belief of the Roman Empire.

Couldn't she have found another male unrelated to the Royal family. Like a guy friend or something? Her uncle was a diplomat, clean background, normal. Oh wait, he wasnkt invited either. He was the one who got her the UN job.

I understand her not wanting to invite her crazy family members, I wouldn't either. Don't understand about the uncle though.

The whole thing has been hilarious. They only dated 18 months. Half of it or more long distance. Big mistake. Infatuation period does not end until after 18 months. That's the cutoff where brain chemicals begin to return to normal.

We don't worship or recognize multiple gods. Freemasonry refers only to the Supreme Architect of the Universe. It is frustrating to have earnest non-Masons tell me all about what's really happening behind those closed doors and then regale me with fantastical tales.

So you are totally entitled to your belief.

I'm sure you would agree that God is in heaven.

And that God is concerned with what is going on down here.

Would it be a stretch to imagine that the people in Heaven (which is the catholic definition of saint) are there because they share the concerns of God? I'm consider how they got there to begin with?

Charity stops at Heaven? Really?

I am Catholic but much prefer the King James Bible. Much more poetic. A beautiful translation. Used it for lessons and carols before Midnight Mass on Christmas in our church. The Monsignor, Dorney, (God rest his soul) knew and let is slide with a wink. The offical Catholic "approved " bibles read so horribly. Still do - they made the language for "reg'lar folks" hence it reads like a twitter feed.

565 The Wikipedia page notes that the Templars had a couple of reliquaries (containers for the body parts of venerated persons such as saints), which had the bodliy relics -- heads, specifically -- of a couple of Christian saints inside them (yeah, that kind of thing went on a lot back then and wasn't considered heretical or anything).

Catholics still do that sort of thing, at least up until very recently.

Saint Joseph's Oratory in Montreal has the heart of St Andre Bessette in a reliquary which is on display. St Andre Bessette died in 1937.

Except Jesus as the bridge, but I think you already allowed for that. Jesus as part of the Godhead.

I was raised Catholic, and my mom told me from the youngest age I told her I was going the direct route...right to God. I didn't see why I had to go through priests and saints and all that other malarky.

So that's me. However, at this point in my life I tend to focus on the nexus of Jesus and God in different religions instead of the theology or ideology. Even spoke with some Mormons recently, it was a great conversation once we got past the ideology portion and to Jesus and God as our shared belief.

The war in Ireland between Catholics and Protestants had to be one of the most wasteful in my lifetime, as far as the reasons. JMO.

well, we are probably not as far apart as you might think I have quite a lot of respect for the catholic church and what it did in preserving and bringing forward the church from its founding. even after the fall of the roman empire the role that the catholic church played in as a church and as an organization in europe was extremely important for both.

my complaint is that whatever is an institution designed to benefit man or men and not simply fulfill the mission is at best unnecessary and should be eliminated.

Probably better described as a generalized beef with other students, teachers, and the world in general, because the shooter's view of the world will be "resentment," because it always is. They will resent how other people seem to be happier or more successful, and they want to "even the score" by hurting others.

They will also likely have written or spoken about other mass shootings, and other people will turn out to have known about it and did nothing.

It seems to me that the general consensus from the Catholics here is that they don't like the political pronouncements of the Pope, but as they are binding doctrinal announcements they let them go . They also realize Popes come and go and have over the centuries of the church. Some were better than others some were dreadful. From what I read here their celebrating the Eucharist and spending time in front of it, saying the rosary and asking for the intercession of the Saints is very meaningful to them. It draws them closer to Jesus-which is the goal in the Christian life, is it not?-to be transformed as much as possible into the image of Christ. Other Christians get that from reading the Bible (not that RC's don't read the Bible. Of course they do; It has just been more emphasized in the 20th century than it was before) or reading various devotionasl or singing the great hymns. I think different aspects of faith touch people in different ways and the Holy Spirit can work through them all.

ace, you are correct. Baphoment was not a Goetic demon, but instead was a god of (occult) wisdom popular in the levant and suspected of being a secret mascot of the templars. He has a lot of problems stemming from how he looks, and i am sure some extra bad energy has been sent that way, but as far as i can tell demon is not exactly the right thing to call that one, any more than it would be to call Hearn or any other stag horned god a demon. they are something else, made into symbols of evil.
