Here Are the 29 GOP Senators Who Voted Against the Balanced Budget Proposal

Which would balance the budget by 2033 by cutting spending, except for Social Security.

Which sounds pretty conservative, which is why the #FakeNews "conservative" Senators voted against it.

38 In a system run via bribes, I don't see how you can have members of Congress that vote against their own self interest.

Considering the bribes, insider trading, and 'campaign donations' they get from funneling taxpayer dollars to their friends, there is no way we are getting anything other than perpetual increases in spending, much less a balanced budget. Until they run out of borrowed money.

Rand Paul is an a**hole, but I vastly prefer his a**holery to that of McCain, Flake, etc.

Our usual "mavericks" only challenge the GOP from the left, which is why the media adores them.

Paul challenges from the right more than from the left, even if he is downright squirrely on certain issues.

It means you cannot pass a law saying that Congress cannot repeal that law, for instance. Term limits are unconstitutional because the requirements to be elected to Congress are in the Constitution; if you want to alter those you have to amend, such as the XXII Amendment providing for term limits for the president.

148 Sure, I guess you could spin the vote as a logical thought process by saying that 'if' you had a resolution that required spending cuts when the dems were in power, they would obviously cut defense and then say: "Hey we have to cut spending somewhere!"

How the hell is that different now? When you do not even have the fig leaf of trying to balance spending. We have the worst of all worlds, stratospheric spending AND defense cuts.

The other thing is, as I have gotten older, it seems to me writing a blank check to anyone, even in the name of national defense, is not a sound fiscal strategy. If your country goes broke, it is not going to mean a hell of a lot. You will be well defended against people coming in and taking the stuff that you do not have.

186 Here is an question. If Mueller gave Comey (or anyone else) immunity, can that be revoked?

Immunity is used when a low level crook is needed to testify on a bigger fish.

But giving someone immunity to lie about a bigger fish smacks of a bit like abuse of power. Can that immunity be nullified?

Posted by: J. Random Moron at May 18, 2018 03:13 PM (ctuyM)

197 BTW JJ, your update a couple of days ago about Rauner
being "soft" on gun control helped us do some push back against AWR Hawkins. There was no way for you to know, but Hawkins really screwed with what the folks fighting the dozen or so gun control bills in illinois were trying to accomplish.

Rauner may be a RINO but IL is a blue state and he is at least tough on gun control. He has already vetoed one crap bill that would basically eliminate most small gun shops and dealers in the state and they have a number of others for him to veto as a campaign tactic.

The madigan dems have a special opportunity due to a range of alignment factors this year they don't usually have to push us over the edge into CA, NY or NJ style gun control. At the same time they have ben forcing Rauner to veto the gun control legislation they are pushing.

Rauner's bill has some concessions we could actually live with if passed (given the very real alternatives and the future under a Pritzker governor ship) but it also had a big poison pill in it that switched the fight back to the democrats in a fairly trump/DACA like manner. Supporting gang banger sand cop killers by not signing on with his reasonable alternative.

Unfortunately AWR Hawkins (PhD) neglected to check with the state organizations and lobbyists that supported this and in essences promoted reduced conservative turnout in the most critical state gov election in my lifetime.

Because of your warning on the issue I emailed him about it and he got defensive and of course refused to run a tretraction or present the counter argument. But we were able to get some counter commentary in the comments and we did make the key lobbyists arare (who were a bit psised).

Again, you had no way to know because it is a very hard and complicated fight to the death going on this year and things that were obvious on the surface were not in fact the reality on the ground.

228 1. There will be nothing close to a balanced budget -- not even a pretty prudent but not really balanced budget -- without welfare reform.

2. Welfare is where a lot of people interface with government. Nobody but government personnel and weirdos like us thinks about the non-welfare stuff that government does. Welfare is where the rubber hits the road for most people.

3. Politicians get into office by getting people to vote for them, even people on welfare. Sometimes ESPECIALLY people on welfare.

4. So, you're a politician. Politics is your job, you're not good at much else, and you need to stay in office. So exactly how do you vote? Yeah.
