Comics Pros and Leftwing Store Owners Collude to Pressure a Small Publisher Into Cancelling Its Relationship with "Ya Boi Zack" of Diversity & Comics

I interviewed "Ya Boi Zack," government name Richard C. Meyer, with Ben Domenech on the Federalist Radio Hour a couple weeks back about his crowd-funded comic book Jawbreakers: Lost Souls.

He later announced that he had secured a publisher, Antarctic Press, which was eager to put the book out and into comic book stores, after the Indiegogo funders had gotten their own editions. "They want this audience," Zack crowed, speaking of his own community of disaffected, largely former comics readers looking for a reason to get back into the pastime.

But the comic book gatekeepers weren't having any of that -- various short fat manbabies, childless weirdoes with 47 roommates, and men in party city wigs began a campaign to pressure the small independent publisher to cancel the run of the book, to keep Zack out of their dwindling club.

Even with its tremendous success, Jawbreakers' distributor Antarctic Press said they won't distribute the series in an ominous post on their Facebook page Friday: "It is the decision of Antarctic Press not to release the comic series Jawbreakers."

Their backtracking had big implications for Meyer and his team, as the book would no longer be distributed to comic book stores. But there was little they could do about it. Antarctic Press was hit by a storm of industry professionals colluding to try to force conservative-authored competition out of the business, which was followed by several retailers threatening to drop all Antarctic Press books from their shelves if the publisher produced Meyer’s book.

The precedent set is disturbing, but this kind of anti-conservative discrimination has been festering in the comics world for a long time.

The author details some of the previous threats and schemes against Meyer, then writes:

The attacks from the industry brought Meyer to national prominence, pushing his YouTube subscriber count to nearly seventy thousand people -- a much higher number than most top selling comic books. Meyer and the #ComicsGate movement became a threat to the left-wing controlled industry overnight. Most of the industry, however, mocked the movement, typically with commentary asking why conservatives don't just make their own books if they hate the current market so much.

The industry should have been careful what they wished for.

...

With a high-profile team of conservatives who had been targeted and blacklisted by the industry, "Jawbreakers: Lost Souls" became a political statement, more than just a book.

To clarify: the book is, reportedly, apolitical by design, but the statement of supporting an apolitical book which wasn't stuffed to the breaking point with stupid #TwitterPolitics was itself a political statement -- give us this kind of escapist entertainment you used to provide.

It has high quality art, a very fun theme, and looks to be one of the top tier books on its own merit, but comic fans had good reason to make sure this book was a mega-success. Consumers wanted to unequivocally tell the industry that the success of Alt-Hero was not just a one-time event. There is a big market ready and waiting for quality content without the social justice narrative.

Jawbreakers made history with one of the most successful crowdfunding campaigns ever. The industry professionals who worked so hard to create a left-wing echo chamber, however, would not let this stand.

Once the project funded, Mark Waid opened fire on Meyer again, posting several rambling Facebook messages. "I have a call in to Antarctic Press," Waid said. "Curious as to how they feel about publishing creators whose marketing strategy is to allegedly (*koff*) encourage their fans to threaten the employees of stores, and/or harass and one-star-review-bomb stores, that don’t offer their product." There is nothing written on Meyer's public social media profiles that come anywhere near the accusations Waid made. Waid did, however, encourage the industry to attack Meyer.

...

These creators inspired retailers to make tweets about refusing to carry Jawbreakers. Left-wing activists then became involved, sending a flurry of hatred against Meyer and his team. "Hate speech is not free speech & fascists like [Meyer] have no place in this diverse, inclusive industry," posted one woman, who claims in her Facebook profile that she works for Planned Parenthood.

...

Meyer [] urged his fans not to blame Antarctic Press, citing they are good people, facing extreme harassment over their association with Jawbreakers. "Mark Waid acted maliciously knowing that he and his cohorts in the industry could bear incredible pressure on this tiny mom-and-pop operation down in San Antonio," Meyer said. Colorist Brett R. Smith went further, saying, "Defamation of character, slander, libel. Marvel must be so proud to have this man on their roster." Mark Waid has since deleted his public social media profiles.

Brett R. Smith did the color work for the Jawbreakers book. He previously did the color work for the comic adaptation of Peter Scheweitzer's Clinton Cash, so you know Marvel isn't itching to hire him. (Though his color work looks damned great.)

Mark Waid, meanwhile, is an extreme leftist who has frequent melt-downs on social media, and, some report, has fat manbaby tantrum syndrome, a sad syndrome whereby a fat, short weak decrepit juvenile gets violently frustrated at fairly minor bothers because he's so fat and weak and can't really do much in life except wail and scream.

Like a short, fat baby.

He also sometimes thinks he has Internet Muscles and suggests he might get Manfully Confrontational with a bigger, younger former Marine if he sees him at a convention, though most people understand, Waid being fat, weak, and hormonally girlish, he would run from even the hint of a confrontation with a man who wasn't his direct underling at the company he works for.

So that's the sort of person Marvel Comics has writing its "action" comics (which contain suspiciously little action any more): A lot of women who don't like action and think it's silly (and so undermine what little "action" they put in the book with meta-jokes and references -- so many pop-culture references! -- in the middle of fights which are supposed to be, you know, consequential and maybe dangerous, but are made into silly Disney XD Sitcom material in order to avoid any support of Toxic Masculinity), and fat aging manbabies who think the ultimate defense in a street-fight is to block someone on twitter.

Anyway: Zack will be fine, given that he didn't turn off his fundraiser and it's now rolled into an online store where you can continue ordering the book, and he's raised over $291,000 and will almost certainly hit $350,000 by the time the book actually publishes.

So: He's not exactly crying (though getting his book into the shops was a big part of his dream here, to make the point that this sort of book can sell in shops -- if the gatekeepers permit such a thing, of course).

But the take-away is that we are now separate countries unfortunately still comingled, and institutions which used to be non-partisan are for hardcore leftwingers only, with blacklists and purges and whisper campaigns and political campaigns aimed at smearing individuals, and they'll even go so far as to possibly flirt with a tortious interference with a business relationship lawsuit to keep the deplorables out.

We will have to create our own parallel structures entirely.

Ethan Van Sciver, for example, left DC Comics recently. He says it was by his own choice, that he needed a break and wanted to try the same thing Zack was trying, revisiting his first creator-owned character Cyberfrog and self-publishing through Kickstarter or Indiegogo. To be honest, I don't know if he's being completely straight when he says this was entirely of his own choosing: DC had gotten pissy with him posting political stuff online, something they seem to not mind when the political content is hard leftwing, and also maybe for being a friend of Zack's/Meyer's.

And who knows, maybe they decided to take a break from each other, for a while, once the controversies settle.

John Malin, the artist for Jawbreakers: Lost Souls, seemed to have lost his career after Marvel after noting, quite fairly, that, in current year, the X-Men are not stand-ins for minorities, but rather that the X-Men are stand-ins for normies -- non-ultra-leftwing militant Maoists -- and the Social Justice Warriors are the Nazi-types harassing them.

Apparently at Marvel you can claim fifty thousand times that the X-Men are victims of the mutant-hating Trump voters, and put the #WokeRacist Ta-Naheshi Coates on the Captain America book (with a debut issue suggesting that the heroes facing down the Trump voter stand-ins, Hydra, are black-clad members of Antifa), but if you flip the script and say no, the X-Men are the normies harassed by the Social Justice Warrior hate mobs, you won't be asked to draw for Marvel any longer.

So that's where we are. The conversation is over and the heretics will be purged and made to walk into the desert.

And that's why I push the idea of boycotting and bankrupting these corrupt propaganda outfits.

On that note, if you're a commenter here and you've done your own excursions into creative endeavors outside of the leftist controlled institutions -- I mean mainly the authors, but I'm sure there are others who've done creative things outside of writing -- by all means, give your books/efforts a plug and a link!

6 As much as I enjoyed comics as a teen, I am glad I got out of them when I did. I initially left when the art style seems to go into the post-modern blender, so I missed the subsequent SJW storylines.

12 Well, I have a complete manuscript I finished around January and have been polishing here and there ever since. Fantasy world, romance between a magician and a werewolf, against the backdrop of a quasi-Byzantine empire and all that jazz. Being a moron lurker, I have trepidations about where I might submit it.

The fact that it's nearly 300,000 words is probably the bigger problem :-(

Takeaway: some potential for a defamation suit and tortious interference with a business relationship, not necessarily with a contract.

36 Also, an intriguing point that's been raised elsewhere not limited to mewling manbaby Mark Waid. Somebody leaked to ya boi Zack a shot of a discussion on Facebook of various comics insiders and/or distributors discussing how best to shut Zack's comic out of the loop. Which is *possibly* a violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act. Treble damages, possible criminal prosecutions (very unlikely but hey, we're being optimistic here), and all sorts of lousy publicity that might at last convince Disney to clean house at Marvel.

Sure, but when Marvel started out they had crappy romance and western comics, and a few war comics. That was just about it. DC ruled the comic book world. The general consensus was that superhero comics were dead.

So Stan Lee gave it a shot with something new and different and history was made.

This stuff always starts small against giants. And it does so by finding what consumers want and publishing that rather than what the companies want.

I'm relieved that you're finally coming around to that conclusion. Current systems are not redeemable, they are not "fixable". They are now incapable of reform, and any attempts to do so are a waste of time and effort.

The current comic book stores are all going to have to close, (they will) the Marvel Movie nonsense is going to have to burn itself out (it will) and the current system of comic distribution needs to collapse. (it will) One of the beauties of creating our own systems of production and distribution from scratch, even though it's hard, is that these won't be caught up in the collapse of the status quo entities.

89 Marvel Comics is literally down nearly 50% in sales in the last 20 years. DC is down about 20%. Comics took a serious hit because their prices kept rocketing up and people just stopped buying so much print.

I mean seriously, who wants to pay 4-5 bucks for a 22-page comic of lame art and stupid stories packed with ads? My brother and I collected dozens of huge cartons full of comics over the years and kept dwindling down our subscriptions at the local store until finally we stopped entirely. They cost too much.

Even titles I really like such as Astro City I couldn't justify getting any longer. By the time we stopped, we weren't getting anything from DC or Marvel because they kept taking a giant crap on our characters and us with stupid politics and ridiculous storylines.

And Marvel got worse, much worse. Now Captain America is a Nazi and the good guys are Antifa protesters. The Tea Party is literally nazi racist klansmen. And that's just Cap.

The comics that aren't just insulting and hateful towards readers are just idiotic and infantile, like its a bunch of tween girls writing AND drawing them. The art is sub-Archie level.

Makes sense. Seems to me one of the basic tenants of capitalism and free markets is fair competition without intimidation and fear tactics. Clearly, this kind of behavior has to be illegal. Not much of a jump to think Marvel is attempting to exercise their control of the comics market to keep a competitor out of the market.

Yes, but the secret is in clay coated stock. Roll the comic/magazine with the spine to the center and the clay coated pages flared as the edge. Sweep the assault comic/magazine across an adversary's eyes and let him/her enjoy the hundred or so number of clay coated razor blades. This will scare him/her and then you can tear their face off. After that you can choose any method to deliver the coup de grace.

124 Ace and Zac had a good exchange on the Federalist podcast, where they discussed the writing. Its seriously awful. Its not just mary sue crap where the grrl power overwhelms any sense of drama, there's literally no structure or drama at all. its mostly people chatting (always carefully diverse friends like a college brochure) and a page or two of a "fight" consisting of the bad guy barely being noticed and defeated in a few panels of withering contempt by the heroine.

These people have no talent or skill in writing. They do not understand storytelling. They have no experience doing any storytelling. The bulk of what little comic book experience and understanding they have came from mangas which are 840 pages long and mostly nothing happening to pad out the page count.

The concept of telling a concise story in the page limits of a comic is simply beyond these people.

The truth is, as Zac has pointed out several times, the bulk of this crap came from horned up Marvel types like Waid who hired cute young thangs from their Pinterest pages and online "comic strips" that are just meandering grrl power soap operas. They weren't hired for their ability, only for being non white males who might potentially strap on the knee pads for an out of shape middle aged comic book creator or editor.

Yes, but the secret is in clay coated stock. Roll the comic/magazine
with the spine to the center and the clay coated pages flared as the
edge. Sweep the assault comic/magazine across an adversary's eyes and
let him/her enjoy the hundred or so number of clay coated razor blades.
This will scare him/her and then you can tear their face off. After that
you can choose any method to deliver the coup de grace.

I have an old Iron Man comic where Stark is getting the crap kicked out of him by a 50 foot robot (...Ultimo?) This was the 'second' part of a two parter.

One theme of the old Iron Man was that whenever it was time for a new suit, Stark would come up against a tough villain (usually new) get the crap kicked out of him (You could see skin under the armor!)

Then he would use his brain to create a new, better suit, and take down said villain.

194 Unfortunately, it will get worse before it gets better. I work in an industry that is woke even in red states. Sooner or later, I know that I will commit a thought crime and be banished to the outer darkness. For that reason, I am spending my time left in trying to become more resilient.

The entry that the left used was credentialism combined with control of education. It is necessary to halt credentialism by requiring in our institutions, a return to actual knowledge critical to the job rather than the right socio-economic pedigree. The perfect example is the current National Review--they picked people based on their credentials and not on their actual performance. Many of the latter were banished as barbarians unfit for company at cruises etc. Think how the political generals rise during periods of peace--they rise by punching the right ticket and holding the right officer's briefcase.

For the right to resist, it must create parallel most civil institutions and abandon converged ones. The idea of starving appeals to few partisans let alone revolting--thus the peaceful solution which does not forestall future division is to create your own institutions and protect them from infiltration.

Example, The Scouts become converged, move to church based organizations such as the LDS and the SBC are doing and so forth. That requires the strength to swim against the stream and band together to create institutions rather than futilely try to fix ill ones. Institutions die but ideas do not have to.

The choices are stark--surrender or create your own castles of resistance via new institutions. A middle option is increasingly unlikely given that the left has now superceded the liberal on the left. Do not depend on the left eating its own. By that time, you will be in a camp or worse.

This makes NO sense. Its like asking Krauthammer to write speeches for Hillary. Or Sarah Saunders to speak for Harry Reid.

I can't wrap my head around it... it goes to why ALL the DC comics movies flop- they fail to realize (or worse, want to ignore) what created the characters to begin with- a love of America, our strong family belief system back then, and fighting evil (Nazis and the Japs) and crime everywhere.

It's why the new Superman acts like a effed up millennial. Or worse. He's all whiney and 'lost' and not 'Murica like Supermen of old.

202 The problem with trying to build parallel structures especially in the social media domain is that the dominent platforms hold dozens and dozens of patents so if a conservative equivelent tried to rise they would be taken to court over some infringement.

I suspect if GAB were to start eroding twitter and FB's market share that they would come under withering legal assault or simply be bought up.

This problem is a lot bigger than people realize.

Libel - That would be the defamation part when tied to actual damage.

Civil RICO actions are exceedingly rare because it's a fun-house mirror version of a law that was designed to go after criminal organizations. The courts rightly discount civil RICO claims and it's rare to have a successful one, afaik.

At the Rekieta video I linked above, the lawyer suggests, rather, that there's probably a claim under Sherman anti-trust laws, defamation, and possible tortious interference with a biz relationship.

Harlan Ellison wrote a bad-tempered essay (the best kind of Harlan essays, really) many years ago called "Xenogenesis," where he documented some of the crazier and more abusive things fans have done to sf / fantasy figures at cons and elsewhere over the years. Waid's threats reminded me of two incidents he recounted: one where there was a plan to throw a pie at L. Sprague De Camp; and the ultimate incident, someone who threw a cup of vomit on Alan Dean Foster. I have no doubt Waid is aware of both of those incidents.

217 I work for the State. In a fairly large establishment. Every year, around elections, we get a boilerplate memo indicating that we are not allowed to campaign at the office, including bumper stickers on our cars in the parking lot.

And then I take some stuff upstairs only to find one asshat posting "Happy Valentines Day" cards from Hillary and from Obama on the outside of his cubicle. But they are, you know, greeting cards, not political adverts.

And nobody says boo, because, well, they like getting lovies from lefties.

220 >>>In response to that request, some people
posted pictures of Richard Meyer, and Waid specified that he needed to
know that the picture was definitely him because, if they identified the
wrong person, things would go "very badly."

Why would things go
badly if all Waid was planning to do was have some kind of conversation?
What could possibly have gone amiss if he accidentally targeted the
wrong person?

It's as though Waid was planning to do something
that would have to happen before he could ask the guy "are you Richard
Meyer?" Like some kind of physical ambush.

Otherwise, what's the risk of accidentally talking to the wrong person?

...

You could never get a jury to believe this was a threat. All Waid's lawyer would have to do is point at him and say "Just look at him. The defense rests. Also, my client needs a fresh diaper."

221 I still want to know why Ta-Nahesi Coates would be tapped to author Capt. A.

It depends on your goal. Do you want a good Captain America story? Then you hire someone who is a good writer (Mark Waid IS one, but he has increasingly become fixated with injecting stupid SJW stuff. I think he's doing it to troll guys like Zac these days).

Is your goal to push an agenda and/or promote "under represented" special identity groups? Then you hire Coates, despite him utterly tanking his first comic writing opportunity with a Black Panther comic just as the movie was coming out.

Marvel's editing staff is showing signs of maybe learning, but they still seem primarily interested in shifting comics to be less white and male at any cost, including sales and jobs.

230 My husband located the remains of a Spanish Man of War, LaGalga, which wrecked off Assateague Island in 1750. It is a true story, thoroughly researched of a Spanish fleet that was caught in a huge hurricane off Florida and driven up the east coast. The book is called The Hidden Galleon, the author is John L. Amrhein, Jr. It is not only the story of the fleet and the hurricane, but also numerous battles with the State of Maryland and other courts. This started in the 80's and even back then the court system was not trustworthy. Orders were backdated to get the case thrown out of court So if you like history, hurricanes, shipwrecks and evil doings of the government and court system, you will enjoy the book. There is a website, bing The Hidden Galleon for a preview of the info contained in the book. This situation with Maryland was so contentious, my husband represented himself pro se in appeals court, that it was written up in The Law Review.

Conservatives to basically have their little commune and not interact with society at large.

I actually think conservatives should leverage their political power and make these places accommodate us.

For example, if a state college has shown it won't hire conservative professors, they should be sued. The idea that we should just form another Hillsdale College and take abuse everywhere else looks a lot like liberals getting exactly what they want.

We Sail Off To War
War has broken out in the Confederacy of Allied Worlds, and it falls to the brave men and women of the Naval Arm to defend their country against the Exile fleet. Over the gas giant Argo, they are losing. With few resources and little time to spare, they must find--and bring to battle--an Exile armored cruiser which has terrorized the spacelanes for too long.

Nathaniel Cannon and the Lost City of Pitu
The year is 1929. In the aftermath of the Great War, the world rebuilds, and the mighty zeppelin is its instrument. Carrying trade between every nation, airship merchantmen attract an old menace for a new age: the sky pirate. One man stands out above the rest. Ace pilot, intrepid explorer, and gentleman buccaneer Nathaniel Cannon and his gang, the Long Nines, prowl the skies in hot pursuit of wealth and adventure.

Cannon receives word from a sometime friend in Paris about a job in the Dutch East Indies. The contact tells a tale of a mysterious lost city, bursting with treasure, not seen by human eyes for a thousand years. Will his tip pay off? Or will it lead the Long Nines straight to a fight for their lives, lost in the unfriendly depths of the Indonesian jungle?

281 Your wish is my command, Ace....

Books: Two series, one Western steampunk, one guns-and-Sidhe historical fantasy. Loyal Valley, my main series, is about a military intelligence team working undercover on a Central Texas ranch while trying to stop a conspiracy to keep Texas from rejoining the Union after the Civil War. The Order of the Silver Star, which so far has only one book in the series, is based on the premise that the Texas Rangers are the heirs of the Round Table.

Art: Calligraphy, Celtic knotwork, and Spencerian handwriting; includes German house blessings and a variety of favorite quotations, especially from G. K. Chesterton.

Crochet: Snoods and reticules, mainly, for ladies interested in living history or vintage styles. I also have listings there for autographed copies of my books.

If you missed my post upthread with all the links, you can follow the link in my sock to my blog, which has them all.

283 I noticed back when I was looking for a literary agent that it was mostly women. And mostly women wanting only female authors and "chick lit." It was very odd, how heavily weighted it was to one side and how anti-male it was. Almost all of them said "no fantasy, no westerns, no sci fi, no mysteries"

Nothing men might want to read, thank you. Girly stuff.

And I guess I understand to one degree. To be a good agent, you have to love the product and want to sell it. And women buy more books than men, by a fair margin. So if you are an agent, you want stuff that will likely sell and that you want to push. If you're a woman, that's gonna be stuff women like.

I think you'll like it a lot. It's basically a re-write of the Star Wars prequels so that they don't suck. The shortest review I've gotten is that I "fixed Star Wars."

Set in space, no Force, lots of intrigue, some new characters, some you'll sort of recognize, but it goes in very different directions. Definitely not fan fiction, if that's what you're thinking.

BTW, the Book Thread has been very good to me - Moron sales are the bulk of my buyers.

It doesn't help when literary agents post on their profiles on their sites, "Interested in underrepresented voices."

Which, of course, means "anyone but straight white guys".

And I'm over here saying, "I'm not represented... That's why I'm contacting you..."

350 The original Ms Marvel was pretty cool: she was sort of a feminist icon, but her background was interesting. She didn't know she was a superheroine. She'd have episodes where she'd black out, everyone worried about her health. When she was out, she'd shift into this other form and psyche and fight crime.

She had kind of a hot costume, too.

First hint of that: the next wave of comic movies they plan on bringing in Ms Marvel. Who's Ms Marvel? Well she's a faux Muslim teenager from Pakistan who fights injustice with her lesbian friends. 403 Carol Danvers Captain Marvel is the latest in a series of Captain Marvels. The first was the Shazam one, now owned by DC, but Marvel Comics' version was a guy who was a member of the Kree alien race, a huge galactic empire of autocratic warlords. He could fly, had aforce field, was really strong, etc. He died eventually and has amazingly for the comic book universe stayed dead since the 70s.

There have been a sequence of people called Captain Marvel, my favorite a black woman out of Louisiana with light-based powers Monica Rambeau. However the latest is Carol Danvers, the original Ms Marvel who lost her powers due to a fight with a power-draining villain named Rogue. She's basically the same character (flight, force field, blasts, strong -- apparently in the movie universe, the strongest character in the cinematic setting) as the original Captain Marvel without the alien race.

I don't know the origins of the new Ms Marvel, but she's not Carol Danvers, and the movie they are discussing putting out will be AFTER the upcoming Captain Marvel movie.

And how the old school superheroes react.

That's what it was about, not a "Dark Knight" rip off. Completely different story and concept.

...

yes that is nothing at all with the background situation in The Dark Knight Returns where violence has become recreational and a gang called The Mutants is just about thrill-killing.

I mean, there's nothing there at all about the collapse of morality and rise of pleasure in mayhem.

Nothing!

You're pointing out these very minor differences (oh, these are a new crop of HEROES who are just like The Mutants!). These differences were contrived to make it slighty different than TDKR.

Oh and right the big conflict is between batman and superman. (The conflict between Batman and Superman *began* as an ideological one in TDKR, too.) Here, they also are the central actors in the ideological conflict, with Captain Marvel filling in for the actual physical part of the fight.

Oh, and Shazam dies, like Batman did in TDKR (well, you know), and serves as an INSPIRATION to those left to carry on the fight.

Oh you've convinced me, nothing like TDKR for the Justice League AT ALL!!!

Wait, so all stories about bad guys being violent are the same? I mean... a bunch of gang members causing problems in a city equals the next generation of superheroes acting like spoiled teens with no regard for justice or innocent bystanders? That's just like a street gang to you?

Is Citizen Kane the same film as Dark Knight Rises because its about a rich dude, in estimation? There's a war in Casablanca and a war in Starship Troopers, so ST is a rip off of Casablanca?

I get what you're saying, but CK really hit the same themes and conflicts that DKR did earlier and better. I mean, if it was the same characters, sure. But you really can't overlook it was the same narrative structure.

427 I had zero luck finding an agent for my supernatural Shakespeare Authorship-themed mystery/adventure. Part of the problem seems to be that agents who say they want to see urban fantasy novels really mean "Vampire romance novels", so I ended up going the self-publishing route.

428 Christopher,

The basic idea of aging heroes in a dysfunctional society that keeps getting worse and worse called out of retirement (remember: Superman was gone for 10 years, and wasn't Diana in exile on paradise island?) to put things right...?

And then featuring a lot of the same story beats...?

A lot of works are derivative and comic books are among the most derivative. and if you want to say it's still good, fine. but I can't call such an obvious rehash anything more than derivative and done better the first time.

Actually the first two times. Watchmen came out at about the same time. Wikipedia says the idea was to do the Watchmen for the justice league.

I think they're saying "The Watchmen" instead of TDKR because it's actually more of ripoff of the latter and they're hiding their tracks a bit.

431 Re 207,
The great weakness of conservatives, if it is a weakness, is that traditions and the idea of preserving order mean that conservatives should back away from confrontation and try to preserve the institution and thus tradition.

Leftists have no such attachment to ordered society nor to traditions and seek power over others instead. They happily gut the institution today for fun, power, and profit today with little regard over its long term viability. In the end, all will bow before government power exercised by the righteous coalition of the people. Expecting to save or redeem an institution from leftists requires a consistent and even vengeful purging of leftists and ignoring the pointing and shaming technique when employed through the media. It is something that no decent conservative has a stomach for because of their compassion.

Conservatives still think of leftists as idiots or stupid--leftists think of conservatives as irredeemably evil. Thus, conservatives engage in dialectic to reason the leftists out of their positions and point to the rare leftist that appears reasonable as proof that these people can be redeemed. Leftists would gladly serve as a conservative's executioner in service to their religion.

To do that, it requires a populace with no buffer from a vengeful government run by apparachiks--thus all institutions are simply grist for the mill of government and exist to exercise dominion over others. This model eventually fails but does enormous carnage to societies which usually adopt the tyrant as a remedy. It is easier to appease one than many.

If you want peace, you must remove their power to hurt you which means separate institutions that act as a buffer to keep individuals from being outgrouped in society.

436 I'm not a gamer, but am a fan of Larry Correia and his MHI series. This week Larry was disinvited from a gamercon due to a shrieking harpy still mad about comments made by Larry on a article her beta boyfriend wrote 4 years ago. Seems the organizer of the con didn't want anyone to feel unsafe in the same building with Larry due to the unsubstantiated rumors SJW have been spreading about him for years.

The events playing out on social media are fascinating! SJW, who started this, is a victim of perceived insults and misdeeds by Mr. Correia and Mrs. Correia (who took offense to the un-invite as one of the children was the +1) is also at fault as well for being insulted.

442 Hey morons,

Long time reader and occasional poster. My endeavor is not as creative as others but I have developed a product after my daughters love of all things unicorns. It is unicorn party favor pack that I sell on Amazon. I designed the unicorn on the bag and I am hoping that I can sell enough that I can leave my job - which is at a liberal university. I am the lone conservative among a very liberal group and my tongue needs a break from all the biting that I do on it.

Anyway - if anyone needs this type of product, here is the link to amazon (It will be the third product - first 2 are sponsored products):

443 Zack is calm about the whole thing. Antarctic Press was going to do the publishing... and only the publishing. The deal was that Zack and his art team were going to bring ready-to-publish finished pages, in PDF format or whatever comic professionals use. Antarctic press wasn't providing art, coloring, lettering, layout, editing, or any other service beyond publishing. And Antarctic Press isn't a print shop; they send out the actual printing work. As Zack observed in one of his videos, "We know how to send out a print job too." So they are now founding their own publishing company to publish these books.

Zack found a panel of terrible art in a recent comic book, something about a cat that either looked like it was going to be run over, or maybe actually was run over, I no longer remember. But that started a running gag about "Splatto del Gatto", the cat that was run over and went splat. So that's the name of his new publishing company: Splatto Comics.

Comics distribution is handled by one big company, named (I think) Diamond. So the remaining big question is whether Splatto will be able to distribute through Diamond, or not. If not, then you will have to order over the Internet. But his dream is for the comics to go to actual comics stores, and it's up to Diamond whether that will happen. Given the situation it seems like a certainty that Mark Waid and his friends are calling everyone they can find at Diamond to urge them to deplatform Zack.

447 I went through all of this in the 1960s through the 1990s, at which time I decided I was going to write for myself and occasionally show my stuff to other people. In the creative fields, it is always the money people who control things and the money people are usually scared sh*tless of an audience that thinks, preferring one they can control. Books, nonfiction, verse, plays, movies, you name it. Academia as well. People seeking control, rather than independence, gravitate to these areas and most people who seek control are whatever the current euphemism is for the infallible ones (from church to wannabe churches masquerading as ideologies. The internet gave others a chance and now it, too, has been seized by the infallibles. Boycott them. As Thatcher said eventually they will run out of other people's money and we can return to slavery so that everyone is equal under the ruler. Have I given up hope? No. But at the same time I am no longer a kid with aspirations who believe what he was told: when you are ready, it will happen. The more realistic you are, the better. Realistic, not cynical. People called me cynicals and I would reply, "I am not a cynic. Cynics don't cry."

449 My novel "Wearing the Cat" is available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle format.

It's a comic, picaresque novel of the literary kind.

Think of "Tom Jones", "Moll Flanders", "Vanity Fair", "Catch-22", "The Magic Christian" mashed together and updated for a modern audience.

It's literary, yo! So, there will be diversions, disquisitions, and dirty jokes. There will be humor both high and low. There will be tragedy of the most tragic kind. There are surprises and outrages on every page ( well, almost every page).

While picaresque, "Wearing the Cat" contains an overarching plot which comes together neatly and surprisingly at the end.

It is a novel of paradox. A military novel set in a time of peace where the present is dominated by past war. A novel that examines the battle of the sexes in a unique and refreshing way as well as the question of can there ever be a truce in that battle. And what is the price of peace? A novel of human freedom which is set in two of the most vertically oriented societies on Planet Earth, The US Navy Dental Corps and Japan.

Despite the ambitions of "Wearing the Cat", it is a rollicking, raunchy, uproarious ride through human nature.

The first half of "Wearing the Cat" functions as an Anti-romance; the second as a Romance.

Your guide through the hijinks is Navy Dentist, Nick McGill.

Some might call him an anti-hero. Some the Goofball of Love. Some might call him clueless. Till he meets the Pompatus of Love.

Here are the links for "Wearing the Cat" on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Wearing-Cat-Complete-Novel-Book-ebook/dp/B06XKQVKH8

https://www.amazon.com/Wearing-Cat-Complete-Novel-Two/dp/1541016394

If you're in the mood for something completely different and non-PC in the best way give "Wearing the Cat" a try.

Pro Tip: Amazon provides a generous sample on the "WTC" page, if you'd like to test drive the novel before you buy.

Saga, a vagabond gunfighter from Samarkand, and the rogue scholar
Richter have spent their lives in search of fortune and dodging the
consequences of their actions. When they accidentally unleash an ancient
evil while robbing the wrong tomb, the pair find themselves in more
trouble than they can handle. Alongside the aged thief Grail and the
reticent knight Ialae, whose ties to the Church may yet set the Saga and
Richter at each others throats, they must stay one step ahead of an
Inquisition that would see them all in chains and try save their world
from the undead horror their rival Kage now serves. Now they must find
it in themselves to leave the path of least resistance to walk a road of
ruin.
