The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition

Senator Feinstein has an inflated sense of her own intelligence and importance, and most of all her ability to sway public opinion. When she spouts "facts" that upon close examination disprove her point, it exposes the conceit that our politicians are in any way intellectually impressive. On the contrary, most of them are mendacious, grasping, gutter-dwelling scum.

These statistics should horrify every American.We have a gun violence epidemic in this country that can only be addressed with commonsense gun reform.

One would assume that with so many guns we would have an astronomical murder rate, and that is what the senile old fool from California wants you to believe. But it isn't actually true! I know...shocking.

The US was ranked 107 out of 218 countries, according to data from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

Mexico's murder rate is four times that of ours (and does anyone trust their numbers?), and Mexico has incredibly strict gun control laws. To be fair to Mexico, they use other weapons too. Which brings up an interesting question: is gun murder worse than knife murder or machete murder or club murder or fists-and-feet murder?

As for that "epidemic" she is spouting about? Really? Because gun violence has been decreasing for a generation in this country. And the number of school shootings is also suspect. They tend to count two gang-bangers killing each other on a school playground at 3:00am as a school shooting. So what did the harpy get right? Well, the United States does have about 4% of the world's population!

The pistol firing is a rumor. Might have happened, might not.

The four dead were killed at an average range of 100 yards. That's M1s, .30-06 rounds, at people 100 yards away.

You can't justify that with riots and burning the ROTC office the night before. Guys with guns are supposed to be in charge of what they shoot and they shot kids a football field away.

Gun laws: when states and judges uniformly enforce a five-year mandatory sentence enhancement for felon-in-possession-of-a-firearm (which in itself would probably halve the murder rate in those dozen counties), and when background checks and other similar requirements are uniformly enforced, come back and talk to me.

Aug 2012. Voyager 1 crossed the heliopause (solar wind boundary, bow wave in this case). Voyager 2 is going in a different direction and has not crossed that boundary yet.

This arises from my Unified Theory of Districting, and it applies to both sides and it explains why everything sucks.

Almost all districts have been gerrymandered to be safe for one party, by collusion of the two parties, so everyone running in each district just has to pander to the base of whichever party is going to win it.

So everything is completely polarized and nobody has a vested interest in talking or compromise or any grownup stuff.

The USA (FBI) counts bodies that died in non-natural-causes, non-suicidal ways.

The UK counts murder convictions.

In the UK, that's... zero murders. Until they catch and convict him, then it's 40 murders, all "credited" to the year of conviction.

Now tell me you can compare murder rates between countries and have it mean anything, other than "look, I can lie with statistics!"

The Ohio National Guard was made up of 18-19 year olds with sporadic training. They were getting hit with rocks, etc. and we will never know for certain exactly what happened.

I personally don't support her "look at me" photo op. The NRA has worked for years to promote gun ownership and usage in a responsible manner which includes not deliberately trying to scare the shit out of non gun owners. It's worked well and has converted a lot more people to gun ownership and supporting the second amendment than the in your face open carry anywhere crowd.

Also, point of cattiness since I'm an ette. White dress and black hooker heels? Me thinks Kaitlin is trying to hard to get her "Farrah " poster out on the market.

I have been there. Arco is the site of the EBR-1, and is the first community in the world to have had its electricity supplied by nuclear power. Late one night in the early '50's they fired up the reactor, made steam for the generators, and threw a switch to take the town off the grid, and put it on the generators for a few hours. Just to prove it could be done.

You can visit that reactor now, No longer "hot", you can walk right up and place your hand on the reactor vessel. One room you can't enter; it's all walled off with plexiglass. A pipe manifold room, with all the pipes insulated with asbestos.

California is boned no matter what. I wrote a thing in Ricochet about it that pissed a bunch of people off, but the basic thesis is this:

Republican governors do not undo the policies put in place by Democrat governors.

You can list a bunch of blue states - Mass, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, Vermont - that elected Republican governors who changed absolutely nothing. Wisconsin is an outlier.

Even if Cali elected a Republican (which will never happen again thanks to dummkopf governor Schwarzenmaidbanger) none of its disastrous environmental, regulatory, or immigration policies would change. Maybe some tweaks to the tax code. That's it.

Republican governors do not undo the policies put in place by Democrat governors.

You can list a bunch of blue states - Mass, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, Vermont - that elected Republican governors who changed absolutely nothing. Wisconsin is an outlier.

Even if Cali elected a Republican (which will never happen again thanks to dummkopf governor Schwarzenmaidbanger) none of its disastrous environmental, regulatory, or immigration policies would change. Maybe some tweaks to the tax code. That's it.

The reason I don't think that will happen - Dems have been way too desperate, way too hair trigger every since Trump got involved this game. Everything they have ever so much as heard a hint about, they have published. They have had no restraint, in military terms, one could say they had absolutely no fire control discipline at all. And now, as a consequence, they're out of ammo, just like any trigger happy soldier.

Of course they can make stuff up (and probably will, since it's their only option) but that is weak, and usually easily countered.

Remember that the real reason Roy Moore lost was that a whole lot of people who were supposed to be on his side wanted him to lose.

Per Prescott, even the Spaniards were horrified by the Aztecs' brutality, and they weren't exactly pansies themselves.

Im old enough to remember when Post Office shootings were the thing.

In the time before memes... it was such an occurrence that the term "going postal" became a catchphrase.

Funny how it eventually burned itself out. You never hear of postal workers going on a murderous rampage anymore. Its almost like it got tired and boring and fell out of favor. Weird.

Im afraid the same is going to happen with school shootings. As long as the left drives top of mind awareness in an effort to disarm the big square red states, its going to be a perverse kind of chic to the disturbed kids already on the edge.

My high school went through a very similar issue with suicides not long after I graduated. Over a stretch of two years.... NINE suicides. Very rare before. Almost non-existant after it burnt out.

I've read some literature by modern historians claiming the Aztecs were slandered. Looking back at the primary sources. Nope.

One point that sticks out to me, and this is actually mild comparatively, comes from when the Spaniards were besieging the Aztec capital.

The Spanish had the city surrounded, but there were constant skirmishes. The Aztecs mostly tried to capture the Spaniards so that they could drag them up to their temple, which the Spaniards could see, to brutally sacrifice them.

Yep - that is my understanding too. Thanks for the confirmation. And good point - unlike the US, the Swiss have real, fully automatic, machine guns/assault weapons in their homes - and yet . . . . no one seems to get shot. Haven't read about a drive by fondue shoot-em-up in a long, long time.

The maddening thing is that once you adjust for gang-on-gang stuff, as well as deaths by guns used in other criminal acts ( guns used in robberies etc.) the number of people killed by firearms in the US shrinks astronomically, and, if you remove suicides too, then it shrinks even more. In fact, deaths by "actual, non gang related" "mass" school shootings are an almost non existent cause of death from a statistical standpoint. But lefties gotta dial it up to eleven if they are going to take away the gun from that law abiding farmer in Iowa. Guns don't confiscate themselves ya know!
