The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition

What a lovely combination of virulent anti-Americanism, anti-Western culture, and let us not forget the savage anti-Semitism. This is the tone on many college campuses today, and it is cheered and celebrated by the Left. It's roots are even deeper than the chaos of the 1960s...I blame the Soviet Union for its 100 year disinformation campaign against the West's philosophical foundations.

It's All Relative, but Islam Is Best, Says George Mason U. Prof.

At the 2018 Middle East Dialogue conference at Washington DC’s Whittemore House last month, George Mason University Professor Darrell Norman Burrell whitewashed Islamism and exaggerated Islam’s role in American culture. His “Islamophobia” lecture reflected the gathering’s sometimes ahistorical radical chic that political commentator Mark Bruzonsky captured succinctly in earlier remarks. Together, their willful distortions of reality offered a microcosm of systemic moral and intellectual problems besetting Middle East studies.
Declaring Hamas leaders are “more dignified, more thoughtful, more aware of history” than popularly perceived, Bruzonsky also claimed that “Jewish Zionist ideology . . . is the real reason we don’t have peace.” Recalling his meeting with Hamas leaders Abu Marzook and Ahmed Yousef, he noted bitterly that it took place before the “Israeli lobby got Hamas declared a terrorist organization.” Burrell himself could have written Bruzonsky’s outlandish conclusion: “The problem is not Palestinian rejectionism; the problem is Jewish and American rejectionism.”

The attacks against Israel and Jews are part traditional anti-Semitism of the Left, and because Israel is the tip of the spear pointed at Islam, which is the vanguard of the attempt to destroy Western culture and philosophy, with its attendant pluralism and freedom and self determination. The Left is content to dismiss its own existential threat from militant Islam, as long as it can be used as a weapon against Judeo-Christian culture.

In addition to the horrors of a third world medical system in a (sort of) first world country, this story exposes the success of a generations-long attempt to make the English people into compliant sheep. And don't be fooled; they are trying it here too.

In most medical offices and other facilities patients are addressed by their first names, and treated as if they were lumps of meat. Push back against that! Insist on privacy. Insist upon being addressed appropriately. Insist that you be treated like a human being who is owed respect and dignity.

80 My oldest brother was born breech. I dunno how they did it - the doctor actually wanted to c-sect but my mom was scared of surgery (this was in the late 50s).

So they tried vaginal delivery and luckily he was butt-first (frank breech) rather than feet first, so they were able to do it safely. He was also born with a caul.

Anyway, I know there are techniques to try to turn the baby before delivery (rarely work) but any kind of feet first breech is dangerous to attempt. Should have gone directly to c-sect.

2. The C-section was done in the right area of the uterus

Even given those requirements, they're much higher risk for uterine rupture.

Weather master here, and I have *no* good ideas as to why. Judaism has for a very long time had something of a socialist bent (the Kibbutzim come immediately to mind - https://preview.tinyurl.com/htxd94d) but that doesn't fully explain the phenomenon. I suspect Jews are indeed harder-left than the national average but it is probably not as comprehensive as it appears at first blush. There actually are a fair number of conservative Jews but they are like conservative professors - they largely shut up about it to avoid conflict.

I believe the actual figure is around 77%, which is therefore about 27% higher than the general population (assuming we''re now about at a 50-50 split nationally).
Throw in that Jews disproportionately live in the Urban, eastern US that as a whole skews Democrat and, though you'll still have more skewing for Jews to Democrat, the actual difference between Jews and similarly situated non Jews is not nearly as astronomical as many think.

Personally I grew up in Upstate NY and most of the (few) Jews I know from that area are conservative as well.

I had that same infection, very painful, both ears. It took about 2 years, but my hearing is mostly back, 90 percent one ear, 70 percent the other. Swimming in saltwater (beach and pool) really helped, know that sounds silly.

Maybe. I'm never sure what to make of that. I have good kids. And they have good friends. Maybe I'm just an optimist, but I think of the Christian example. As a faith, it has historically thrived the most when under the highest amount of persecution. Every time. Even the Chinese noticed, which is what drove their detente with Christianity back in the 80's/90's. (Still illegal, but we're not going to come in and shoot your whole family for it, and just get more of you for our efforts.) I think the love of individual liberty, being at it's core an unalienable right, will react similarly. By way of anecdote: My teenage boys are so conservative it actually makes me a little uncomfortable. I thought I was all down for the struggle until I heard what they thought about it...turns out I'M the candyass. Trying to temper that for them a bit. So, rest easy. I suspect it's under control. The fact that DJT is President is a testament to the impossible divine.

I think there are a lot of reasons but the main one is that so many happen to fit the demographic profile of white/secular/urban/upper-middle-class.

In academia, for example, I see no political difference between Jews and other whites. And I do not think it a coinkydink that the few Jewish conservatives I've stumbled upon there break the demographic pattern in some significant way --- foreign or from the boondocks, e.g., or very observant in their religion.

Generations ago it used to be said that Jews earned like Episcopalians (the ruling class) but voted like Catholics (the working class.) Now they vote like Episcopalians.

I live in a major metropolitan area (greater Detroit) and insist on non-Ethnic doctors who were educated in America and are either Christian or Jewish.

Is the racist? Probably. However, some people of different religions and of different races have very different ideas on the sanctity of life; that is their option. It is also my option to patronize doctors who believe what I believe.

Also.. it is VERY important that you can understand what you doctor is saying, and that he/she can understand you. That is not always possible with a foreign born doctor with a thick accent.

Finally, pretty sure all of my doctors are conservatives as well.

Those are my personal choices; your choices and experiences may vary.

I'll take a stab at it. Given their history, Jews by and large don't trust the majority population. That's why they are usually for open borders. It kind of makes sense in that a more diverse society is usually better for minorities--which Jewish people certainly are in most countries. If a Jewish liberal sees a Trump rally on television, it may not look much different to them than a Nazi rally.
Also Jewish people are usually among the highest income earners in the US. So they virtue signal by being down with the poor and oppressed. I'm not saying that their concern for the less fortunate isn't genuine, but it may account for their voting for the political party that CLAIMS to be--and has the unearned reputation-- for caring for the poor and the oppressed. Voting their pocket book or financial self-interest might cause guilt. Or something.
Finally, ALL liberals think they are smarter, more educated and more "enlightened" than the mass of the great unwashed so they natural align with the educational establishment and the "intellectual" community--and these are almost uniformly Left and in many cases dominated by or heavily influenced by Jewish thinkers, educators and intellectuals.
Taking the above into consideration , it's a wonder why any Jewish voter WOULDN' T vote Democrat......

There was a case a few years back where a gay guy bought a birthday cake at Whole Foods, and claimed that it said "Happy Birthday, Faggot" written in the icing. I went to an Anti-Iran rally near Turtle Bay a few years back. Most of the participants were CUFI (Christians United for Israel) groups. Fellow jews wanted no part of them and stated that these people only supported Israel in order to bring about the end of the world (some prophecy about jews return to Israel bringing about the Second Coming).

Then many jews do not support Israel at all. When my kid spoke up in favor of Israelis' right to self defense during one of the pal uprisings, she was denounced by fellow jews who said she was a "bad jew" not one of the "good jews" who supported the Pals.

When they diverge, it's usually because there's something "off" in the profile. They may be foreign or from the boondocks. They may be religious.

The first openly conservative colleague I met in academia was a Jew. But she was Orthodox.
The most conservative, anti-Obama, anti-Hillary prof I know now is also a Jew. But he's from France.
