Brett Easton Ellis: There's a Big Backlash Against Leftist Hysteria Coming

Author Brett Easton Ellis, best known for American Psycho, has been ridiculing snowflakes for a while, so he's not a Kanye-like convert.

He's also been predicting a coming backlash for a while. But now he says Kanye's declaration of independence is proof that it's now here.

I pray he's right.

American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis warned for years of an impending shift against progressive values in a town long touted as a bastion of liberalism. Following Kanye West's controversial break with liberalism over Twitter and TMZ, Ellis is seeing his premonition unfold.

"As someone who considers themselves a disillusioned Gen-X'er, I think there IS a backlash brewing against leftist hysteria," Ellis told Observer over email. "What I used to semi-align myself with has no answers for anything right now, just constant bitching and finding ways to delegitimize an election."

"That is not a plan for 2020, and if I was a hardcore Democrat I'd be very worried despite the blue wave of 2018, that may or may not fully arrive," added the controversial novelist.

The author makes the basic but important point that as the left makes itself more narrow in the beliefs it permits, it makes the right bigger. The left is now dogmatically, militantly in favor of a very specific ideology many find toxic; that means "the right" -- defined broadly as those against the hegemoic leftist culture -- has grown simply because the left keeps exiling more heretics.

The right doesn't have to do anything much to add to the anti-left coalition while the left continues its purging/exiling madness.

"Hollywood is both hysterically emotional about its liberalism, but it's locked in a major hypocrisy because it is one of the least inclusive capitalist societies that exists--pure corporate culture with corporate rules," said Ellis. "It's about caving in creatively to the global marketplace and, for example, if that means no gay characters in movies because they won't play in certain territories then so be it. And as I've always liked to point out: Beverly Hills voted for Trump in 2016--one of the only bits of red out here in a sea of blue, and that fact does not fit into a neat narrative about So-Cal Hollywood liberalism."

44 There is a backlash coming because communism does not operate within the laws of human nature.

The Left only works when they have authority and/or propaganda and right now they have lost their firm grip on both. If that continues for six more years there is a cultural shift in the making that they are literally (literally) powerless to stop.

They don't hate Trump the man (they would demand everyone worship him as-is if he was a communist) or even what he represents - well they hate both those things but it's not what is driving them. They hate what he is going to do - i.e. break society wide open and re-remake it in the image of the America you and I know and love.

They know what he's going to do because he operates like they do - and remaking society in their image is exactly what they would do if they had his toolset at their disposal.

They had to show their outrage about the Obama/Iran deal going bye-bye. They probably also spent all the pallets of cash and expected more. I'm sure this is also their way of trying to scare people into backing the Iran deal.

All it does is show how they were not someone to trust with any so called "deal". Obama was just buying (literally) time so nothing bad happened on his watch. Obama was an empty suit.

123 The author makes the basic but important point that as the left makes itself more narrow in the beliefs it permits, it makes the right bigger. The left is now dogmatically, militantly in favor of a very specific ideology many find toxic; that means "the right" -- defined broadly as those against the hegemoic leftist culture -- has grown simply because the left keeps exiling more heretics.

Scott Adams, who describes himself as about as Left as possible, was called alt-Right the other day. His crime? He describes the world as he sees it and predicts what will happen. Since idiots believe that words speak reality into being, clearly his explaining Trump means he is promoting Trump.

When everyone is alt-right, no one is.

I think that there are a lot of people that simply keep quiet about their beliefs because of liberal intolerance.

I think Trump won by a lot more votes than what was reported.

So yeah... backlash bitchez.

211 The "right" doesn't have to do anything - just let the tide of people "come its direction" - but of course that's a high-risk, lazy approach.

It's what we've seen in a "GOP controlled Congress", largely, since 2010. And in that epic (nationally) election, the GOP leadership was almost comically desperate *not* to stand for anything in particular - other than "repeal O-care!" and mumble-mumble-we-oppose-Bambi. Boehner and his people were furious with those who shamed them into adopting a milquetoast agenda of specifics, most of which they perfidiously abandoned once in control, naturally.

Anyway, obviously the author is referring to broad cultural and social themes, not just electoral politics. But giving the alienated and lost political souls a home, or at least acceptable temporary two-hots-and-a-cot, would be far superior to passivity.

229 OK so all I've seen in the Russki "troll farm" case on the arraignment today is a typically lame Reuters story. US lawyers pled not guilty for their Russian client. One amusing item - apparently the indictment included a corporate subsidiary of the main target that didn't exist at the time of the alleged misconduct - leading the US lawyer to call it an indictment of "the proverbial ham sandwich". Heh.

Good buddy happens to be at that law firm, so I might get some comment from him (he's not involved in this case).

Dang, I so rarely read an MSM dispatch, I am *still* struck by the distortion embedded in almost every story. The Reuters story provides a "background" bit of info on the Mueller probe, without noting that a year in, and nearly 2 years since the counter-intelligence probe that spawned it began, the investigation has zero evidence of any wrong-doing related to Russia or Trump.
