The Education Department's Office for Civil Rights has begun dismissing hundreds of civil rights complaints under a new protocol that allows investigators to disregard cases that are part of serial filings or that they consider burdensome to the office. Department officials said the new policy targeted advocates who flooded the office with thousands of complaints for similar violations, jamming its investigation pipeline with cases that could be resolved without exhausting staff and resources. ... Among the changes implemented immediately is a provision that allows the Office for Civil Rights to dismiss cases that reflect "a pattern of complaints previously filed with O.C.R. by an individual or a group against multiple recipients," or complaints "filed for the first time against multiple recipients that" place "an unreasonable burden on O.C.R.'s resources." So far, the provision has resulted in the dismissal of more than 500 disability rights complaints. ... According to the Education Department, 41 percent of the 16,720 complaints filed in the 2016 fiscal year came from three people. There was a slime ball here in SoCal who, with his firm, used to do that to startups, who basically had to settle because they couldn't afford (in time, money, or reputation) to fight the lawsuits. (I believe that they were shareholder-type suits, but I don't recall.)
Of course, a startup involved in litigation has precisely ZERO chance of another round of funding until and unless the litigation goes away. Who wants to invest in a lawsuit?

French is wrong on so many counts for the following reasons:
1. He asks what the ultimate goal of a Christian's life should be. However, everything that follows is non sequitur to the initial question. Just because pursuing the "common good" of one's culture is not a Christian's ultimate goal, it does not mean that it is not an incredibly important responsibility.
2. The election and support of Trump is without question a pursuit of the "common good" of our nation. To vote for Hillary or even abstain from voting because Trump is a flawed man is to pursue (or permit) actively wickedness to prevail in a nation.
3. French has no authority to state that Christians who voted for and support Trump are guilty of "sin." He did not make a case from Scripture; it was a fiat judgment of his own making. Ironically, making such a serious judgment based solely on one's opinion is a serious charge. I don't think he recognized the irony.
4. On the other hand, a positive case can be made, contra French, (as noted above) that one of the God-ordained responsibility of a Christian is to actively oppose evil in one's culture. Clinton and nearly every position she actively pursues is contrary, not only to the common good (natural law), but to the very moral fabric of humans made in God's image and likeness. While it is true that such responsibilities do not fall under the Christian's relationship to God as Redeemer (in Christ); it is the duty of all human beings in relationship to God as their Creator.
5. As already noted, French's article made no sense. I am not stating this because I disagree with his assertions (which I do), but he demonstrates absolutely no correlation between his opinions and everything that goes before and follows them.
Last, if anyone knows of a way for me to offer a rejoinder to French, please shoot me a note in this page. While he is certainly entitled to his own opinions, he is not entitled to determine his own facts--particularly ones that when disagreed with makes one guilty of "sin" in God's sight.

Good point. How about loosening the standards for making the loser pay? So it's not just for rare egregious cases, but for ones that on their face are unlikely to prevail? The judge could warn the party that if that expectation should be borne out, that party will be paying costs, and so might want to consider its position.

Actually, I don't go pray on the street corners but sometimes someone may say before or after church. "Will you pray for me?" and I may say, "How about if we pray right now?" and we do so if they're comfortable with that. That is not to draw attention to myself but hopefully because I want them to do I care at that moment-not that I'm only going to pray at home
I love that. Thank you for being willing to pray at the drop of a hat.
Also, many thanks for prayers for my daughter. She made it through all the exams this past week, and has three more next week, but is finally feeling a bit better. The strep seems to be beaten, and after finals, we work on the lyme. I am so very grateful to you all.

I have chronic Lyme so I know how difficult it can be-and I'm not even doing a heavy schedule and taking exams in school. Sounds like you have a very determined daughter. God bless her!. As far as prayers, I think people are glad to do that, don't you think?. Praying for others, IMO is one of the great things about being a person of faith. If you pray for people you can draw closer to them even if you don't know them personally. :^)

I think some people get the impression that prayer is just a quick mumble of words sent to the ether. To a believer, it is time communicating with the Creator on behalf of oneself, and those for whom you are interceding. I grew up around tremendous prayer warriors, my mother included. Those women would drop to their knees, and things would happen. It was a little disconcerting.
I am not in their league, but I think the way one gets there is by constantly practicing. So I am happy to pray for anyone who asks. I am very grateful that you, bluebell, jane, and so many many others here are willing to do the same.
And I will add your lyme disease to my list!

I'm with ya. I only recently got a "smart" phone, and that in response to pressure from the family (I like everybody having the same phone, because I'm effectively the system administrator, and then I know how to solve their problems.)
Having said that, I've never taken a selfie in my life, nor do I intend to. In fact, I've scarcely taken any photographs at all with the damned thing. One of the few: a photograph of wiring at a junction, so I could figure it out at leisure.
