Fourteen States Hit Record-Low Employment Rates, Media Shrieks
Whoops, I Meant Record Unemployment, and the Media Is Silent

In the media, their opinions are facts and your facts are but opinions.

The states hitting new unemployment lows run the ideological gamut, from conservative Texas to liberal California, suggesting a recovery stronger than any particular political persuasion.

In March, eight states saw new record lows, including Hawaii (2.1 percent), Idaho (2.9 percent), Kentucky (4 percent ), Maine (2.7 percent), Mississippi (4.5 percent), Oregon (4.1 percent) and Wisconsin (2.9 percent).

California also set a new record last month. The Golden State’s unemployment rate stands at 4.1 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). That’s the lowest rate recorded since BLS began keeping track of state-level unemployment figures in 1976, and it’s a third of the 12.3 percent unemployment rate California notched at the height of the recession in December 2010.

Colorado’s unemployment rate is just 2.6 percent, among the lowest in the nation, and a third of the 8.9 percent peak it hit in 2010.

Now, it's true that this article appears in The Hill, which is the media. But for such truly historic economic news, you'd think it would be the lead story on many if not most outlets, or one of the top lead stories.

But no, of course not. The media spent eight years under Obama ignoring the bad economy, now it'll spend all of Trump's years ignoring the good economy.

BTW: I never had allergies before but began getting them about two years ago. I have been made pretty miserable the last three weeks from pollen. I don't know what to do about this. My eyes are always burning and my vision is actually distorted.

Any suggestions? Remedies? I've contacted my doctor to get a referral for an allergist but I have a feeling that'll take like two weeks.

2 Its been funny watching Facebook's "trending" news bits over the year. Every time the stock market dips, they have a piece on there. Every time it goes up: nothing. Never anything about unemployment dropping or the increase in labor participation rate. Never a piece on how more and more new jobs are added every month, at an increasing rate. Never anything about the fed warning against the economy warming up too fast.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne man is accusing his son's 8th-grade Spanish teacher of pushing a political agenda on students.

In a WOWO Exclusive, Todd Hein tells us his son was shamed, bullied, and given an extra assignment by his teacher, Sarah Ford, at Blackhawk Middle School, after he cited Fox News as his source for an assignment.

"She decided to walk up to him and in front of everybody, told him Fox News is fake news, it's full of lies... and gave him a new assignment, to look up any of the 'many lies' Donald Trump has told as President of the United States, and do a full page report on that," Hein says.

19 OTC meds. Try 'em 'til you find one that works well. Everyone reacts a bit differently to each so side effects (typically drowsiness) and effectiveness will vary. Personally, Zyrtec (or the generic equivalent) works fantastic for me for pollen and pet dander, with only 4 hour erections as a side effect.

.
.Once it's in the eyes Ace it doesn't go away, trust me. Experiment with eye drops and once you find one that helps stick with it and try to not touch your eyes when they burn. If you do that, it will just keep making it worse.

I sometimes use 5-8 single dose unit eye drops daily, depends on the day. Do not get the bottle as it seems to make it worse for me, go with the single dose ones.

I use more if I am going to cut the grass. I flood my eyes with 4-5 vials before I start and that seems to help some.

Zyrtec worked great, but it increased my blood pressure (check with your doctor). I used Allegra for a long time, but when its effectivity declined; I switched to Flonase, which works well.

When daily stuff isn't good enough, I've found Benadryl the only on demand solution. Oddly enough, when I need Benadryl, I don't suffer the effects of drowsiness. I'm sure this isn't how it works, but its as if its to busy fighting the allergy to make me drowsy.

I finally went to an allergist and did a five-year stint with allergy shots, where they essentially inject you monthly with the stuff you're most allergic to, in order to build up your body's immunity. It didn't get rid of the allergies, but it did get my body to the point where over-the-counter medications were effective. For the past 10+years, the only thing I need is Flonase, which you can get pretty much anywhere.

Good luck... it can be miserable.

After 29, it seems that the ability of your eye to flex and focus diminishes, which, with increasing strain can cause headaches, in my case, and possibly stinging, IIRC. Also the ophthalmologist recommended against OTC eyedrops as potentially drying out the eye, also, IIRC.

I am due for a prescription update, and I previously had 20/20 or better well into my late '20s.

96 Ace,

I have recently been introduced to a Nasal Wash system, forcing a saline solution through the nose into the sinus cavities. It washes out all of the pollens and gunk, do it 2 or 3 times a day (or as much as needed, actually) it will clear it all out, and with continued usage, will keep it clear. It's really helped me!
They are available through most grocery stores, or for certain at drug stores, and are inexpensive (I think I paid like $12 for mine)

Posted by: runner at April 24, 2018 04:53 PM (bUjCl)

169 allergies?

My tip - start medicating early and often. At the first sign of an attack (itching tongue is my first indicator). Don't wait till the damn thing is full blown to take action, suppressing an immune response is much easier than walking it back.

Allergies often start a few years after you have moved to a new area.

Keep the house as dust free as you can. And air filtration unit for the bedroom makes the most sense (you spend half your day there anyway).

Lastly, hit it with more than one medication. Each medication suppresses a different allergen receptor in the body. You body has a lot of different receptors (fuck you body!). Sometimes a med will suppress one receptor, but that isn't the one causing most of the problems. Allergists have told me to combine more than one drug without a problem - say allegra and Claritin.

Lastly - Flonase, up the nose. Probably the most powerful stuff out there. Combine with Claritin and Allegra. Crush that allergy.

Oh and lastly lastly - some people swear by the Neti pot. I dunno, I tried it, it helps, but ...I'm just not that into Neti.

178 I had shots every week for twenty odd years. This was after multiple hospitalization and having to be intubated as a kid because I had severe reactions to allergens. They helped me, but keep in mind, I started this in the sixties, when there was not a lot of research into allergy treatment. The shots can help, but they will not cure you.

Still it's good to get an allergist to check you over, to see if there are other allergen triggers you have developed.

Posted by: Moki at April 24, 2018 04:55 PM (V+V48)

179 finally
went to an allergist and did a five-year stint with allergy shots, where
they essentially inject you monthly with the stuff you're most allergic
to, in order to build up your body's immunity.

so... that method takes years, and only results in a lessening of symptoms?
Posted by: ace at April 24, 2018 04:49 PM (8rNrN)

Jumping in unadvisably probably, but I had testing done as a child bcz mine were so bad. For instance, allergic to grass and hair. Anyway, had 2 shots a week for 3 years. It did lessen the reactions greatly. I also took allergy medicine in the summer.

Hated it then, but now glad I did it. I don't know the efficacy as an adult taking them, but having them done as amchild helped me the rest of my life.

251 The story I've been told forever is Arizona was where doctors sent everyone with really bad allergies. Dry and didn't have all the allergy inducing plants.

Then all of the people brought their favorite plants and now we have it just as bad.

I don't really "suffer" from allergies, but it seems everyone has it bad.

252 3.3% for 2018 Trump vs. 2% for Obama. Not a big deal, but that represents $660 billion growth versus $400 billion. That's like adding the entire economic output of Chile or Bangladesh to ours. Plus it gets compounded, meaning next year we add another 3% of the extra $260 billion.

That growth will give us around $60 billion in extra tax income this year.

Obama robbed us of the better part of a decade with his subpar growth polices.

well, if there is a body or bodies in the wall, the drilling may have punctured the plastic bags that they were wrapped in allowing allergens out or mold spores in which would explain the allergies.

347 Former NRA President Doubles Down: Yeti Demanded NRA Cease Using Cooler Company Logo After Parkland

YETI severed ties with the NRA and is now engaging in damage control after a backlash from many of its customers. In early March, YETI refused to place a previously negotiated order from NRA-ILA, citing "recent events" as the reason - a clear reference to the tragedy in Parkland, Florida. YETI then delivered notice to the NRA Foundation that it was terminating a 7-year agreement and demanded that the NRA remove the YETI name and logo from all NRA digital assets, as well as refrain from using any YETI trademarks in future print material. While YETI is trying to spin the story otherwise, those are the facts. While Yeti can choose to run from the NRA, they can't run from the facts.

Loratadine* 10mg every day at the same time. it only w*rks if you keep a steady state of it in your system, due to its mechanism of action.

Jewel, if they gave you the "GERD" diet, try it, see if it works then when it doesn't------ cut out all sugar, all, as in under 12g, dump all grains and starches and keep carbs under 50g. Eat all the meat, eggs, cheese, vegetables, and fats you want including the 'acidic' food they tell you to quit. I completely eliminated all, as in ALL stomach issues doing this. The sugar (and I mean from fruit, bread, milk, starches like potatoes and corn, and grains) was the problem. Add plain greek yogurt everyday to provide probiotics. Only drink tea (unsweetened) and water. Coffee is fine too, despite what they say as long as there is no cow's milk or real sweetener.I haven't had a single stomach pain, indigestion, reflux, etc since I started this last July. Before that, I struggled with it every single day with a whole long host of awful symptoms.

-Dust and vaccum

If after 24 hours you are feeling better, it is a good bet it is pollen, outside allergens.

But also check for anything new you've brought in the house and are using. Cologne even. Skin cream. I've had allergic reactions to both these things.

Get that Pur Mist thing.

a large portion of the vagrants here in Lost Angels are either mentally ill and refuse treatment when offered, illegals, and drug users/drunks who prefer to live on the streets and stay high, rather than rejoin society. then you have the people who just want to live that way, instead of being part of main stream society.

there are programs and relentless outreach to help the rest that don't fall into those broad categories, but there is nothing that can be done with those who WANT to live that way, no matter how much money we throw at the problem.

first generation antihistamines usually have that side effect on people.

the newer ones, Zyrtec, Claritin, etc, don't, but they also don't help if you have a sudden allergy attack or breakthrough, for the same reason they don't usually cause drowsiness.

as with most things in life, it;s a trade off. you need to take them all the time during whatever allergy season you're allergic to, or they won't provide protection from symptoms.

435 Allergies:
First be sure it's not something new in your home environment like mold, or mites in your carpet or furniture. (If you have an indoor/outdoor pet, that can happen all of a sudden).

Second, have a full spectrum allergy test done to identify your sensitivities.
Allergies can develop out of the blue later in life, even when you never had such troubles before.
My late wife was surprised like this, and she had to depend on Benadryl frequently for relief.
Good luck!

463 I've never had allergies before either, my kids and husband did and I suffered through many doctor's appointments and allergist appointments with them. This year I started having sinus and sore throat issues and took some of the generic zyrtec that I buy from Amazon (since 5 others here take it daily). Within 20 minutes my symptoms were gone, I just have to take it daily.

I do keep liquid Benedryl in the house for potential anaphylactic shock as well as an epipen. Apparently, the liquid Benedryl will arrest the anaphylaxis before you need the epipen. Taking a zyrtec everyday will also help to prevent anaphylaxis. No one wants to take Benedryl on a regular basis unless they WANT to go to sleep.

Never anything about the fed warning against the economy warming up too fast.

609 Re: allergies

I haven't read the comments above yet, but you've done the right thing, ace. As we age, our susceptibility to allergies increases each year and without intervention it only will get worse. Our immune systems continually get weaker.

The time between early Spring and the use of air conditioning is the worst. Spending a few bucks on drape and carpet cleaning is advised, as is changing all air filters on a routine basis.

Eating local honey, and this hasn't benefitted me personally, also is believed to boost immunity to allergies.

We haven't had the pollen yet, but I know when we do it means I need to shut the place up for a few days and run the A/C...otherwise I will feel miserable...like the flu. Just depends on how bad it'll be. Also to jump in shower once home and wash off pollen and put on fresh clothes.

678 Ace, I eliminated my allergies three years ago with helminthic therapy. Click my name for the URL.

Briefly, it's reuniting the human body with the harmless organisms that were part of our biome before we got all civilized. The "Hygiene Hypothesis" supports the idea. Thousands of personal stories confirm it.

I don't fault you if you think it's crazy. I had to hear it from three sources before I started to take it seriously. It works, and it resolves a long list of autoimmune disorders -- which are rare in parts of the world where people still walk barefoot.

Look at the wiki and if you have any questions about my experience, e-mail me.

687 Allergies? Local honey, about a teaspoon/day will do it.

When I hit about 22 I became rabidly allergic to ragweed. From late August through about the first frost. Could not smell anything, could hardly taste anything, plugged up like a mofo with sneeze attacks that would knock me down.

Tried all kinds of treatments even including steroid shots that lasted about a day or two. Tried weekly shots for a year that did no good and went back and when it didn't work and they doubled it to twice a week. No better.

Did the Claritin/flo nase gambit for years to little avail. Someone mentioned local honey and with nothing to lose I tried it. Haven't had an allergy pill or spray for 4 years. Unbelievable but it worked. I now enjoy going to football games again or anything else in the fall that I had missed for so long.

690 Agree with the others about the local honey! Every spring I always got a hacky allergy cough during pollen season. Now I take a teaspoon each day of raw local honey, with bits of honeycomb still in, and chew on the honeycomb a bit before swallowing. No cough. So I don't care if it's a wive's tale, it works for me.

I live in rural USA so I can get local honey easy. For a NYC apartment dweller, befriend your local beekeepers. Check out the NYC Beekeepers Association, maybe they can hook you up with honey in your neck of Manhatten. http://www.bees.nyc/

There is also a NYC Honey Week apparently! It probably brings out the hipster snowflakes, but if you get legit beekeepers they might be cool.

699 Plenty you can do to help with allergies before seeing an allergist. I've had seasonal, plus dust/cat allergies, since my teens. Allegra works best--I get the generic version. Simple saline nose spray. Regular showers, and if you are feeling like you're being attacked, take another shower. Wash hands frequently. Change towels and sheets frequently. And a challenging habit-changer: keep your hands away from your face, especially anywhere near your eyes. Really hard to do, I know. Lay with ice-cold wet clean washcloth over eyes when they are on fire.

Any suggestions? Remedies? I've contacted my doctor to get a referral
