taxes, high sales tax, high state income tax, high local income taxes,

on and on...

And it's still never enough.

41 Willowed...

386 I surprised that there isn't more support for my plan to divest the government of all the surplus assets and distribute the money via the elimination of mortgages, student debt and credit card debt (along with infrastructure spending).

The Constitution explicitly says the government should not "own" anything not absolutely necessary for the operation of the government. Russians found one of the solutions on what to do with the same type of assets when the Soviet Union broke up - give them to friends of those in power.

The Deep State does the same thing, only not on the same timetable and scale. Everyone around Clinton, Bush, Obama and everyone else to ever hold a position of power has grown rich bartering off the taxpayer's assets.

If left to the government, these assets would go the way of the trillion we gave to the big banks during the made-up loan crisis.

We need to convert our national assets to cash in a structured way over a long period of time, but immediately have access to at least half the value. Then, we need to use a method of distribution that touches the most people in the best method for the ongoing economy.

Or, we can just let the Clinton's and Obama's decide.

This is common practice. Our uber-Lib town council is happy to say, 'We haven't raised taxes', all the while that evaluations are going up.

I some jurisdictions, the value of a property is established at the time of sale, and THAT is it. It remains at that valuation until it is sold again.

I heavily favor that method. It makes the property tax much more visible and subject to criticism.

Property taxes are low in AL, so someone always tries to raise them "for the children" and runs right into the buzzsaw of retirees (with no children in the system) and various folks pointing out how many of the problems in local schools have nothing to do with money and everything to do with incompetent and/or corrupt school boards (the current saga here in the MTG comes to mind).

An Indigenous traditional healer's murder has sparked outrage in Peru, and a video has emerged showing a mob of villagers strangling the man they believed to be her killer.

That man has been identified in a statement from Peru's interior ministry as Canadian Sebastian Paul Woodroffe.

Relatives of Olivia Arevalo Lomas, 81, said that a foreigner had asked her for a healing session and then shot her to death.

The man's body was later found buried about one kilometre from Arevalo's home, and an autopsy showed he died by strangulation after receiving several blows.

It used to b that way here until the NAACP sued the State because poorer black districts didn't get as much money as rich beach front districts. The NAACP lost the case but the judge said SC should do something about the disparity anyway. So they eliminated the school portion of the property tax and passed a two cents sales tax increase on everybody to finance schools. But our county decided they just could not afford to lose that school tax so they added a "fee" to the property tax that just so happened to equal what the school tax was. And the State allowed them to get away with it. So I got yet another tax increase.

.We moved away from CT because even when we paid our house off we had to "re buy" it every 15 years due to the high taxes. And CT isn't the highest property tax State in New England. NJ has that distinction IIRC.

Here in Texas if all goes well we will only have top buy our house one and a half times, once for the mortgage and another one half in property taxes for the next 30 years.

178 169 Things are heating up in Peruvia.

Any why do they need all those admins? Because teachers aren't allowed to shame and/or smack the kids that are acting up. So they have to send those kids to admins for "punishment".

Except if you do that too much, the admins start putting "poor classroom management" in your teacher evaluations.

We have inflation now and we still collect taxes.

I suspect that without taxes, there is zero motivation for people to use your fiat currency. Not to go I to Luap nor territory, but why use our government theoretical untaxed currency if you know it auto inflates say 5% every year and you never have to even pay taxes in it. It becomes government employee money only and is then immediately converted to what ever free market currency is preferred.

252 About a quarter mile from central Boise, Idaho, an Eskimo and a Chinaman walk into a sushi bar.

Bartender: Welcome to Bob's 'Sushi Done Well' gentlemen. Please take a seat where you prefer.

Eskimo: (Looking at the menu...) How do you serve your sushi?

Bartender: I apologize but all of our sushi is grilled well done. For safety reasons.

Eskimo: Why are you apologizing?

Bartender: Well, I assumed you prefer your sushi raw.

Eskimo: Well, I never eat raw meat of any kind. So that is no problem. By the way, may I place my snowshoes somewhere out of the way?

Eskimo: What I wanted to know about the sushi is how you serve it? Is it served on china?

Bartender: No. Our plates are cheap ceramic.

Eskimo: Oh. I only eat off china porcelain. Perhaps I can make an exception today as I need to eat some seafood to get my daily Vitamin A.

Chinaman: Who care about vitamin A and dishes? You grill sushi? Barbarian!

(The Eskimo orders a fatty fish sushi and the Chinaman orders an arugula salad. They finish.)

Eskimo: I shall now go and basque in the sun.

Chinaman: Oooooooh. I go see Gold Mountain.

Wouldn't a majority of Confederate soldiers been fine with emancipation from a purely economic point of view?

They were in competition with slaves for labor, but the rich preferred to use slaves for anything because there was no up front cost on the individual task, so whites tended to get shafted.

Am I reading the history right?

They probably still considered themselves superior to blacks, but they'd rather not have blacks be able to completely undercut them in terms of labor at every turn.
