Inspector General Report Into Hillary Email Investigation to be Released In May

So this will be interesting.

So what's going to be in this report? The IG has been very tight-lipped but a report published in January by the Washington Post indicated Horowitz was looking at McCabe's apparent failure to pursue a probe involving Hillary's email server...

Specifically, that's in regard to McCabe being told that classified information was found on Anthony Weiner's computer -- yet sitting on that information for weeks.

And...

Horowitz was also looking into why an investigation into the Clinton Foundation also seemed to stall at McCabe's desk...

A lot of investigations into Hillary Clinton died on McCabe's desk.

McCabe, notoriously, refused to recuse himself from overseeing these investigations, despite his wife getting a huge cash infusion from Hillary Clinton's bagman Terry McAuliffe.

33 #7 I tend to think it's because they keep finding more and more wrongdoing which requires further investigation and documentation unlike Mueller's witch hunt. Kind of like how each week we keep finding out the Deep State is deeper than we ever imagined and more people were wearing masks than we every imagined. Horowitz not only has to go down the rabbit hole, but document everything to climb back out of it and hand in tidy report digestible by your average window licking paste eating congress critter.

Posted by: Blue Falcon in Boston at April 16, 2018 08:08 PM (N5dam)

34 IG reports - esp. when they may be rich with actionable felonies discovered/suggested - do take time. There are no omissions, uncrossed t's or undotted i's, generally.

And recall this original tasking (Espionage Act investigation) grew into other areas as the mega-scandal unfolded. There was the side-bar thing on McCabe for his venial sins (leaking and lying, multiple times). And FISA abuse. That one was announced - not sure if all rivulets that Horowitz is following will be formally announced that way.

47 The failure to investigate all the illegal activities being conducted under the various Clinton foundations fronts is particularly maddening. The investment banker Charles Ortel has written extensively on all the irregularities, illegalities, missing millions, etc., that appear in the publicly-available filings, so we can imagine how much worse the stuff that's not publicly-available is.

Then there is the fact that ultimate Clinton insider John Podesta wrote those leaked e-mails in which he noted that it is common knowledge among Clinton insiders that Chelsea Clinton used the foundation's "charitable" donations to pay for her lavish wedding, and has also been using foundation money for years to fund her extravagant lifestyle.

The evidence of gross malfeasance in the administration of the Clinton "charitable" foundation scam has been in the public arena for years now, and yet the Clintons continue to skate.

The Clintons are crooks, and so are the people who have been protecting them for years. It's long past time for all these criminals to be publicly identified and prosecuted.

Obviously because it has been under investigation for some time and no matter how many times this is said there is always someone who will say "Why aren't they investigating the Clinton Foundation?".

Mueller has been investigating Trump for a year now? What's taking so long?

Did it ever occur to you that people who set up a complex fraud spanning the globe might take really good steps to make sure the fraud isn't discovered and it will take time to dig out all the information?

This isn't CSI Clinton Foundation. Things don't get wrapped up in an hour including commercials.

Watergate, which was a relatively straightforward burglary took 2 years to investigate. This is orders of magnitude larger. The investigation currently has 5 FBI field offices doing the investigation and notably it is not being run by a small cabal on the 7th floor of DC.

So, like protoge Comey, Mueller also seems to be running a sham investigation, preordained to not find any clinton wrongdoing.

Then DoJ's "civil rights" division threatened NYPD with criminal charges over the death of a black fellow who was selling cigarettes and who died due to strangulation or some damn thing when the cops had him. NYPD folded like a cheap suit.

Later, a car driven by an FBI agent-ette in NYC was "broken into" and a laptop with NATIONAL SECURITY DATA was stolen and never recovered.

182 >>You're obfuscating. You just can't admit the slightest scintilla of error.

I'm not obfuscating anything. I remember that Friday night very well including you asking when you could start telling people like me "I told you so". Not yet is the answer.

It makes not a bit of difference. The report showed that McCabe lied 4 times including twice under oath. Those are felonies. It also showed that people like Lynch are involved and it further proved once and for all that Lisa Page at least has flipped and is cooperating as I've been saying for months.

It was a time piece of an enormous scandal and even people who claimed to have read it don't think it's significant so what's the big deal if it's put out on Friday or in prime time. People will think what they want.

What matters is all the people who have been removed from office, are under investigation by both the IG and federal prosecutors and indictments. Everything else is just noise.

185 Let's see....per Judicial watch, Comey in his book or in recent interview has said there were 100's of thousands of emails on Huma's laptop. I am guessing some of these were the ones Hillary erased from her own server.

And, oh yeah, per a Catherine Herridge report in the initial months of the FBI investigation, her sources told her that some of the classified docs found on Hillary's server were not ones distributed to Hillary (i.e. she was not authorized/read in, meaning she got them on the sly from someone high up in IC). Maybe she got these passed to her by...MCabe?

196 Oops. Unless somebody fixed it before this posts.

Max Power, I wouldn't be so quick to describe the mini-IG report (McCabe) as "limp". An IG uses certain kinds of language. He is not a prosecutor. He shares criminal-relevant info as he proceeds, with a prosecutor.

I would say that some of the "lack of candor" instances in the McCabe report (wonderfully antiseptic and under-stated) will end up as lying to federal officials and perjury under Huber or another prosecutor.

But I don't care. I have a strong expectation that Huber or someone will be able to bring much, much more serious charges against McCabe. The documented abuse of his senior subordinates (leaking, then blaming them for it) tells me he might, in fact, go as far as pressuring agents to alter 302s in the Flynn case.

We'll see.

I'm actually shocked the Deep State hasn't at least tried to assassinate POTUS yet. The end of free elections certainly seems a logical extension of that same almost-certain impulse. Every new outrage tops the last, and I can't help but think the pining for mass civil disarmament reveals much more than intended. They at least know a heavily policed police state will be hard to keep in place. Not much comfort there, but some.

Yeah, the Clintons and even the Obama peeps would be dispatched without pause if it helped them solidify power. What unfolded in Kimba Kourt today pretty much indicates even lip service isn't long for it.

In my estimate he's not resigning, he's not being impeached or convicted, he's not going to be indicted by Mueller, and he's not backing off.

And the two don't connect or relate in any way that I can see. The former will simply go on, regardless.

Everyone wants to think that the Trump Admin needs to play the political Swamp games the way the Swamp plays them. A Friday news dump doesn't matter. What the Swamp has treated as "politics" will return to being justice.

The Lois Lerner limited hangout bullshit, the Bill Clinton lie until everyone is tired, the just ignore what I said about anything Obama ruse, the Armitage-Plame Monafort-Carter nothing matters but the narrative to an out of control Special Council, all marinating in the Right Wing outrage media and the Left Wing Horseshit Media.

Horowitz, Sessions, Huber and others are on a mission to restore the rule of law. And yes, they will allow scumbags like McCabe and others to their constitutional due process rights according to the law, but these scumbabags will also discover why it is important to obey the law.

This is rectification of names. And when the people get a taste of it they will feel refreshed.

Well, since you so eloquently put it like that...

Posted by: Comrade Hrothgar at April 16, 2018 09:28 PM (n9EOP)

356 votermom, since you asked, there of course is a world of difference between the early Gestapo and today's FBI, in every respect.

The early Gestapo were mostly "political police" from Prussia and other German states, who existed since the Kaiser's day and reported to the elected heads of those states, and who were recruited into the new service, even before it was unified by the Nazis once they had seized power. So - mostly not Nazis themselves. They had been tasked, before, with countering truly violent revolutionary groups, not policing "regular" political organizations.

As the Nazi repressive menu grew and changed, to crush *all* political opposition, they carried it out. After Himmler and his deputy Heydrich took over, they recruited much younger, more educated, fanatical nutso Nazis, who were the ones that went to the eastern territories and oversaw some of the worst atrocities (Einsatzgruppen).

The head of the Gestapo - yes, named Mueller - was himself not even a Nazi party member until he had been in charge for a while.

And they were famous for their dark leather coats, not blue shirts (!). Odd, the early Soviet political police also established the leather-coat "KGB look", which I've read was from a shipment of leather coats ordered for the Imperial Army's artillery service prior to the revolution. Maybe the Gestapo borrowed it from the "chekists"? Dunno.

It comes down to Who Can Convince Enough People To Join In first.

Its why I doubt the long game we see playing out with this investigation. That's gonna' take years. Any two-year election cycle can stop that shit cold.

OTOH ... and I wonder about this ... Trump can always go Counter-Coup whenever he feels like it. If that's in his back pocket - not a bad idea to let the investigation play out, knowing he can always go for the throat if the heat gets too close.

But I'm positive of this ... just based on human nature. The closer the issue is to getting decided - the more shrill you'll see people get. In the media, in your personal life, here. Shrill on all sides.

Why ? Because a lot of people are just fucking scared. With good reason.

Help me out here (seriously)...How do you remain so confident and optomistic that something will happen to anyone other than Trump and his associates? Especially when right now it appears that all the movement is on the anti-trump side. There's a part of me that fully expects to see an indictment of Trump and then wall to wall media coverage calling for his impeachment.

Well first I reject the premise that nothing has happened to anyone but Trump's people. Did you not see Comey's cry for help last night? How about his Deputy Director McCabe? They were both fired from the FBI. That's kind of a big deal. So has been their reaction.

And there are many more that have either quit or been demoted and are now cooperating. You can see evidence of that in the McCabe IG report.

There have been federal prosecutors working with the IG for quite some time and you don't bring in prosecutors if there aren't criminal charges under consideration.

And I try to read every source document I can find and so far this thing has turned out pretty much as expected. I have no reason to think it isn't going to continue. You can't read the things the IG, the head of the FISA court and others have turned up and not see where this is headed.

And I think the caricature that has been made of Sessions doing nothing and either in the bag for the left or being blackmailed is idiotic. It is completely the opposite of who Sessions has been all his life and who is doing exactly what he said he would in other parts of his job which seem to be ignored.

Oh and I ignore the media. They are on the other side and irrelevant.

Finally, Trump. Anyone who thinks Trump isn't going to go get revenge on the people he offered to go easy on, who have gone after him and his family personally and also tried to ruin his presidency hasn't been paying attention.

Brennan. Conviction, dunno - but what is almost certainly an "off-shoring" work-around to US espionage laws had better be thoroughly exposed (Nunes will have to do it, SSCI has dropped off the map). And Brennan's a nutjob, can't exclude possibility he got himself into some conventional trouble that will in fact be discovered.

415 "By the People: A History of the United States"

Trump voters are described as "mostly older, often rural or suburban, and overwhelmingly white" while the book uses the viewpoint of Clinton voters to describe Trump's supporters as fearful, backwards, sexist people who supported a mentally ill candidate.

"Clinton's supporters feared that the election had been determined by people who were afraid of a rapidly developing ethnic diversity of the country, discomfort with their candidate's gender, and nostalgia for an earlier time in the nation's history," the textbook says. "They also worried about the mental stability of the president-elect and the anger that he and his supporters brought to the nation."

And now my Crystal Ball has run out of juice. Mentor ... I just don't fucking know.

Here's the deal - in day to day business - I'm pretty good at figuring out not only what your best interests are ... but what you THINK your best interests are - and going from there. Using that to plot moves. Comes in real damn handy in negotiations as well as poker.

Very few up there are acting remotely rational at this point. Some are willingly walking the plank with no personal upside.

I can't predict what goes on with that kind of behavior. I'm fucked.

462 Folks,
First thing, the status of the phone tapes is dubious--what reference that I saw dealt with and alleged altered videotape on the Access Hollywood Grabbing. Second, THEY ARE NOT GOVERNMENT RECORDS--the Watergate tapes were official government documents, no less than any other reports, because they were made with public money, operated by government employees, and used to hide a criminal conspiracy while in office. That does not apply here.

Part of the reason that no apparent action is going on is that Republicans in Congress are afraid of Mueller and some are probably angry that Trump won. I have a strong suspicion that J. Edgar's legacy of secret files on important people still exist. We know that a second DA exists and that this DA is not in Washington and this DA is probably being fed data from the OIG investigation and possibly the Clinton World investigation. A number of key clinton world people have gone radio silent--some obama lieutenants were just flushed out like former AG Lynch and Brennan this week.

My guess is that the FBI folks will take the first indictments as their stuff is closest to the surface. Then, it will be the old Obama DOJ folks turn in the barrel over FISA abuse. Then perhaps Clintonworld as a lot of their crimes deal with money issues that take longer to develop. I don't think Sessions or RR or even the Dems winning in october are able to turn off the machine anymore than Trump can shut down Mueller alone. What is going to come out is not pretty and has already shredded the reputations of a number of folks including McCain, Ryan, Schiff, etc.

In the past, The Dems in Congress did not behave the way Republicans did during Watergate or Iran Contra and they served as the left flank for the prosecutor Archibald Cox, Jaworski, and later Walsh. The key Republicans in Congress insist that Trump cannot fire Rod Rosenstein or Mueller regardless of how outrageous their actions are. AND BTW, it is a big deal to go after lawyers and their files--the FBI is so desperate that they have probably tanked any criminal cases deriving from that information (happened during the Iran Contra to Adm Poindexter's prosecution).

Leaking lawyers files means an OPR investigation into that office for leaking and given the climate--some of those folks are going to be looking for jobs or facing possible criminal charges and that further jeopardizes any criminal prosecutions derived from that information.

As far as the Dem wave, it appears to be receding as Trump's trend line is up. The key is to look for those likely to vote--surveys of the general population are pretty much useless except perhaps for trending data. Registered voters are a bit better predictor but the secret sauce in political polling is figuring out who is going to come out in Nov. We still don't know that and won't know until around September.

The other unknown is what candidates will be in the general election and how their quality is for both sides. The last, which no one knows, the nay sayers or the cheerleaders both, is what events will take place in the next six months.

I think that a few things are pretty clear--Mueller lacks any real evidence of collusion with Russia at all or obstruction in firing Comey. He is now trying to get process type crimes from underlings but these don't really affect Trump right now enough to cause impeachment.

Trump's MO is usually to thrive on chaos and he has shredded the traditional media cycle and this is done usually to prevent Democrats and Republicans from having their talking points in order and marshalling support. I suspect the big thing going on is trade negotiations in NAFTA and the investigations in Awan Bros. and Clinton Global Initiatives. The rot at the DOJ and FBI is pretty exposed along with other areas. Things are developing and the thunderheads are coming, not sure what awaits us next.

Far too many people are getting the vapors from watching the news which is now mostly opinionated blather. Read the primary sources or if you can't--then find someone like Jackstraw who actually has read the reports to follow. The signal to noise ratio in the media is pretty bad but like the old time Sovietologists--you can also figure out things regardless with a wide enough net.

Possibly. In my mind, with my own experiences in DC and NYC... The only way Mueller raids Trump's personal attorney is if that dumbass Cohen recorded all of his calls.

466 @463:

With a preface: you could be right and I don't totally discount it. Here's why I don't think there will be an impeachment, Brian, since we both know Trump simply isn't going to quit. Even if Democrats miraculously retained all their seats and won the eight at play, that would leave 43 Republicans. It would require ten of those to flip. It could be done, thus the preface, but it's unlikely as hell. There never has been a senator from the president's party vote to impeach. I don't think the cuckier Republicans would hesistate to do so against this president, but still ten is a stretch.

I also don't discount other means being employed, and those almost certainly will set off a more overt civil war.
