Gainz? "Fat Studies" "Scholar" Proposes New "Athletic" Exhibit to Rebut the Fat-Shaming Norms of Bodybuilding: "Fatbuilding," Which Is Just Like Bodybuilding, Except Instead of Showing off the Muscle You've Built, You Show Off the Fat You've "Built"

This is a published scholarly article.

Taxpayer-funded libraries pay large sums of taxpayer monies for the privilege of keeping journals like this in a smelly sub-basement that no one ever goes to.

I'll skip one tweet here and just tell you what the excerpt said: It noted that there had previously been parody fat "bodybuilding" exhibitions like one called the "Fattylimpics."

He mentions that, because he's about to say that his "fatbuilding" contest would expressly not be parodic intent, but a true competition to see how fat you can make yourself:

By the way, this is also from @RealPeerReview (the greatest account on Twitter):

6 TBF, fat body building probably isn't that much more unhealthy than competitive body building of the usual sort (ie not strength training per se). If a bunch of narcissusts want to go at it, I have a hard time giving a shit.

But what's funny to me is that an academic thinks ANYONE should give a shit.

If you, Richard Baldwin, want a competition in which people show off their fat gaining skills and physique, you do the work. Get sponsors, make rules, rent space, develop a program.

40 Morbidly obese people should examine their family history for a record of heart problems. If their family has had a record of heart disease then they need to do what ever it takes to get their weight down. I have come to the conclusion that most diseases like heart disease, cancer, and many others are really genetic in nature. So if you have a family history then you do NOT want to add other complications like morbid obesity, smoking, etc.

87 Fascinating. This gives me a kind of analogy for zombie's theory. She's said that the marxist attempt to reshape humanity along ideological lines is basically a failure. They've infiltrated every institution, yelled at their most strident pitch, used every means of propaganda, and they still failed.

This kind of gives me hope she's right. No one could ever believe this shite. It's obvious that obesity *cannot* ever be as attractive as a healthy weight, no matter how hard we're indoctrinated. It's obvious that in the context of athleticism, such as bodybuilding (or gymnastics, or track) that morbid obesity measurably hinders the ability to perform.

This is based in fact and has nothing to do with "exclusion" or "idealization" in an arbitrary way that can just be changed by social engineers and indoctrinators, if only they are allowed to force people to watch fatbuilding competitions for several generations.

Universities don't pay thousands of dollars to maintain journals in musty sub-basements. They pay millions of dollars to maintain online databases of unreadable journals, that only students have access to, and will only be used so the students can cite at least 5 scholarly articles for their papers.

Chances are though, most of the money to maintain these databases is the software it takes to make sure nobody is plagiarizing those otherwise useless journal articles, in those entirely unreadable term papers.

112 I used to do a lot of weight training and a little cardio, mainly stationary bike at the gym.

My recent move brought some lifestyle changes. I no longer belong to a gym (there isn't an affordable one convenient to me) and since I am now working entirely from home and live where there is very good public transportation, I'm experimenting with going carless.

So, even with buses and Uber, I do a lot of walking. And I haven't gained a pound. In fact, I've dropped a few. I was afraid that dropping my weight training, which we all know burns fat like mad, would lead to weight gain. What I've discovered is that getting in a lot of walking is just as effective at weight management.

I have a good friend who evinces the same behavior: he's always moving on to something else. When we played together, he wanted to play position X. No, position Y. No, wait, he wanted to try position Z. No, back to position X.

Similarly, he always wanted to remake teams. Lose guy X, recruit guy Y, etc. No, wait, dissolve this team, and start all over recruiting a new team. But, he doesn't like running a team, so maybe quit that team and join a different one.

No, wait, quit baseball, take up yoga. No, feather yoga for a while, come back to baseball. Hold on, feather baseball and go back to yoga. Now golf or surfing ... hmmm.

He's got so much top spin that he can't light on any one thing for any amount of time. It's exhausting just to watch him.

He reminds me of leftists in this respect (not in his politics). What do they want? Whatever they don't have now, regardless of what that may be.

You can see that in CA: we have drought. Oh noes. We have to conserve water or we're doomed! Wait - it's raining heavily. Oh noes. Now we're really doomed! That's the worst possible thing, because that'll promote the growth of brush and lead to brush fires!

There's literally no outcome that leaves them happy and content. Everything's under control, go about your lives.

185 Part of a recent Dennis Miller interview.

A: Yeah. It is. It’s brutal. Never been in more politically correct times. I’m like Seinfeld. I wouldn’t even perform in a college campus now, to be honest. I mean, I’d perform in a venue, but I wouldn’t perform for college kids.

Q: You’re afraid of those kids, Dennis.

A: I don’t know however you want to put it, but you’ve seen how people react. Like I said, I’m looking to do less, not more. I don’t want to go in and tell a joke and have people start throwing ... chairs and bike racks through windows! You should be scared of it. It’s a very close-minded place right now.

Q: What’s more gratifying to you: To be funny to people, or to be politically motivating to people?

A: Funny.

196 I've been hitting the gym regularly, but with work and school the past few weeks I've only made it twice a week. My lifts for squat and bench are still slowly increasing, but my overhead press has plateaued. I usually do 5x5 once a week for each lift, and another day that week I'll do four or five sets of 2-3 at increasing weight above my 5x5 weight. So for squat, if I can lift 5x5 at 245, the next time I'll do sets of three at 250,255,260,265 and 270.

I've also started hitting the treadmill more, but only to do intervals. Usually 1-2 mins at a 8 min/mile pace and then walk for 3-4 mins and repeat for 3 miles.

"High" fructose corn syrup typically is 42% or 55% fructose, with most of the remainder being glucose. Sucrose (table sugar) is a 1:1 oligomer of fructose with glucose, and undergoes cleavage into fructose and glucose under acidic conditions, e.g., in the stomach.

Sucrose metabolizes into glucose as does fructose, eventually (after being metabolized through the liver). I do avoid eating much fruit, 1/2 cup of raspberries every other day. Sugar is sugar, spikes glucose which causes an insulin response, the driver of obesity and apparently, brain glucose causing dementia and alzheimers. There is new evidence that the gut bacteria that thrives on glucose is responsible for allergic responses too. High sugar fruits should definitely be eaten in extreme moderation.

Roseanne, Dennis...maybe Tim Allen. Ya know, before the Crazy Olympics began, Allen was on Kimmel, telling him Hollywood was like the fascist 30s. And why. Kimmel had not yet entered into Crazyland, at least publically, and I don't remember him pushing back. Maybe he was just surprised.

I sho'nuff did. Thanks for the launch updates, too.

I truly thought that when SCOAMF killed off the Shuttle program even though those airframes had used less than 25% of their projected life, I'd never be able to watch launches from the front yard again.

I'm really glad to have been wrong. Watching a rocket stage perform a retro burn was a real treat, one I didn't ever expect to see.

Of course, I never thought we'd set foot on the moon in my lifetime either...

Now, who has just realized that "high fructose corn syrup" in composition is not that much different from plain table sugar?

That should help unbunch some panties.

Anyone who still thinks fructose is bad should definitely avoid eating any fruit.
Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at April 16, 2018 06:16 PM (4o+ea)

Yep, sugar is sugar, basically. That is why the paleo diet doesn't encourage eating fruit. Our ancient ancestors surely enjoyed eating fruit, but they could only get it in season. They didn't have it year-round like we do today.

(I'm not on the paleo diet myself. I'm in the "eat sensibly, in moderation" camp, as you mentioned earlier.)

With respect, you kinda missed the point. My point was that fructose is a major carbohydrate in fruits, generally speaking, and health nuts often urge people to eat more fruit.

I was comparing HFCS with sucrose, with which it is pretty closely comparable. My point was that there's absolutely wrong with fructose, per se; any problems arising from HFCS would arise from consuming a comparable amount of sucrose.

292 I think that HFCS is not so terribly bad, but it is so easy to put in EVERYTHING as a sweetner, that you just get too much sugar as a sweetner additive to everything. Making foods just a touch sweeter can make them a lot more attractive.

It's incredible how HFCS finds it's way into a lot of processed foods and snacks as a sweetner. And really, that's the problem. Too much of anything is not good for you.

I think the aspects of appearance or mannerisms of homosexuals is mostly affectation. There is no evidence of a gay gene, since there are many cases of identical twins who grew up to have differing orientations. Not to mention some are gender conforming, some are gender non-conforming. It boils down to early environment rather than nature, I think. Look at DeGeneres or Milo. Both abused.

Absolutely right.

You don't "need" fruit. You can get all the nutrients you need from vegetables. I like small amounts of raspberries for the anthocyanosides, despite the sugar because I can only eat so much red cabbage.

335 To the fat scholar I'd just add, there are certain ways of being that are preferable to other ways. You wouldn't dream of going into a terminal ward and lying to those patients and telling them that they were in the same position as, say, Elon Musk or Prince William. But you are doing this in other contexts for correctable problems such as obesity, so you are attacking it from the wrong end.

351 Scams have gotten very, very sophisticated.

I always ask for name and number and do a callback. But not to them, to the organization they are calling from, to see if they are legit.

If they are, I ask to be connected. Because I want to make sure it is the same person who made the outgoing call to me.

You can get an IRS employee name and call and say you are that person. So...the only way to be sure is to go thru the actual organization.

Ya gotta be very, very careful nowadays.

The problem isn't so much of the single bottle of salad dressing with HFCS. It's the fact that every single thing in that same aisle has been similarly adulterated. The sugar that people are unknowingly consuming has gone extreme.

If people saw how much sugar they're inadvertently consuming every day they might wake up. But I'm not a food Nazi. Enjoy.

But please, I can hardly afford to pay for my own health insurance. Much less for your diabetes or stay in the Alzheimer's wing of a nursing home.

I've rejected advice about building muscle mass just a I have rejected government advice about diet (cause of the obesity epidemic). If one has muscle mass due to ongoing activities at work and play, then it is what is needed for your lifestyle.

However, If I exercise and build muscle mass that is otherwise not needed, is that any better for the heart and longevity than fat? Is 5 lbs of excess muscle any better than 5 lbs of excess fat?

I'm within 5 lbs of my target weight through calorie restrictions and walking 2-3 miles a day. I won't do any exercise that risks joint health such as jogging or running. My uncle was active through his 90's and lived to be 100. How does one have a good life and beat that?
