Correction: I initially wrote that this was a leak from the FBI. I was wrong. Cohen was forced to disclose this in court. Why it wasn't disclosed in the judge's private chambers and kept secret, I don't know. I suspect because #TheResistance.

Lawyers, necessarily, are going to have clients we don't like and clients we're sympathetic for. Almost all of them have both. For the law to have any value, for there to be any justice at all, we have to shrug at a lawyer taking a scumbag client once in a while and understand that doesn't mean the lawyer is awful or that every client they have is a bad person.

Details are irrelevant, but years ago I found myself on the receiving end of a nuisance suit. My attorney advised me that there were two routes:
1: Fight the suit in court, incur a bunch of costs, for an uncertain outcome.
2: Make a settlement offer to the son of a bitch and send him on his way.
I chose option 2. And my attorney happened to also be a good friend of mine who was in a limited practice since he made his pile already and was happy to be in the game on his own terms instead of as a part of a ginormous firm juggling traffic cases all day.

My husband got the same advice from his attorney, when he ran a business. People tend to forget how much attorneys cost. Ours charged us $50 per email, which did not contain any sort of legal advice. I'm sure the high priced lawyers charge a lot more.

I have at least 8 attorneys. Cohen and I are long-term friends. I've consulted him on different issues over the years. I've never received an invoice or a bill from Cohen.. He's never formally represented me in a legal proceeding. I've never had any matter with Michael Cohen that involved me and a third party. Nothing salacious.
What's the big deal here? Hannity's never made it a secret that He and Cohen are long term friends.

It's really not even a question, people that are throwing up excuses for why he gets raided like number of total clients are just trolling.
And if we want to say Cohen "only" had 3 clients in a small time frame like 15 months (despite a career as a lawyer with far more clients than that) it's a meaningless statistic.

Here are the things that make the Hannity thing "interesting."
First, the titillating aspect - the other 2 clients, the GOP fundraiser guy (Broidy?) was a payoff to a baby momma. We know Cohen paid off Daniels, presumably that was on Trump's behalf. So, why is he advising Hannity? Easy to draw inference is hushmoney to a honey.
This would be a blow to Hannity in a way that it isn't to Trump but was to the fundraiser guy. Hannity is a Trump supporter, so MFM would love to dirty up a Trump supporter.
Trump enviromental damage is another interest. Hannity supports Trump, absent Trump's win in 2016, this exposure for Hannity is his punishment.
Also of note - ALL of the details of Broidy's deal are out in the public now. And he got fired. Mission accomplished for the Left. I said when it happened the purpose the raid on Cohen was to get info to leak.
This lawfare business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.
My recommendation: drink heavily, and buy ammo.

The only people who know what legal jeopardy Cohen faces is the FBI and the judge who signed off on the warrant.

If it's for the purpose of determining whether you should obtain legal counsel, a consultation with an attorney is, in fact (and law) privileged.
As for raiding an attorney on an accusation of being a "co conspirator" this sort if thing should have a very, very high bar of evidence (e.g. tape recorded call of the attorney saying "let's continue to lauder that money!") or you should be raising every too-cute/getting by the backdoor what you can't get through the front alarm to any serious /uncorrupted Judge.

I used to work in the insurance industry, and we'd get letters all the time from law offices complaining about something real or imagined, and threatening a lawsuit. We'd cut them a check for $5,000 in exchange for a waiver and that was that. Perfectly legal extortion.

Trump did fire all of them when he took office. He then reappointed some including the US District Atty for New York. That is why he had to recuse himself from pursuing this warrant against Cohen and it went to the next atty down who was all too happy to do it.

Lawyers are hired ahead of time to help keep you from committing a crime. Or they are hired once you are charged with a crime to prove you didn't do it, or to mitigate a sentence when the crime is absolutely obvious.
The worst that should happen with Trump and the slut's situation is if it is proven that the payoff and NDA is somehow illegal, then Cohen is guilty of malpractice for his client.
Which is what I suspect was the idea is in getting a warrant to raid Cohen's office. Unfortunately, so much of the judiciary is as corrupt as the FBI, so there is going to be a lot of twisting of the law by this court and others, while the left and never trumpers look on with approval.

Yeah, this whole "its shocking the law enforcement and legal community" doesn't seem to have much teeth. Lawyers and judges everywhere should be in absolute lockstep opposition to this crap but they just don't seem to care.

My guess: Redstate put up an article the other day how Cohen went to a
shit law school. Probably Cohen, not able to go partner track at a white
shoe firm, cut his teeth doing the type of legal work those firms don't
like to do- keeping things secret, ie affairs.
He probably did some work for Don and his buddies, and Don, liking
loyalty and needing such services from time to time brought him on
board. This of course cuts against the idea that the Stormy payment was a
campaign contribution as it was a matter of routine business

Those sorts of things are usually handled by single lawyer offices and not the big firms. Why? Less lips to spill the beans to lawyers for the other side.
The top divorce attorneys in town all had their offices at the building where my office was. All were single lawyer, and all had been like that for years.

The fbi can't decide a lawyers guilt. They can only press charges and arrest. The lawyers is due his day in court.
