Woke up at 4:30 to hear the house girls whining to go out. Got them taken care of, emptied the dishwasher and took care of the laundry in the dryer. Now off to let the hounds in the kennel out, then a shower and off for an hour's drive to 7:00 Rosary and 7:30 Mass. Another peaceful Sunday morning at Schloss Hadrian.

40 Remember Parkland?

It turns out that of the $800 million bond deal to improve those schools that was passed in 2014, $103 million was supposed to go improving the physical security of the schools. Guess what? Here it is four years later and 17 dead without those upgrades. They seem to still be mired or in limbo, fancy that; but hey Runcie the idiot running the school district was Arne Duncan's deputy, remember Duncan he was Gaylord's Sec. of Education, so different priorities.

75 It's true! It's true! The crown has made it clear
The climate must be perfect all the year

A law was made a distant moon ago here
July and August cannot be too hot
And there's a legal limit to the snow here
In Camelot

The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot
By order, summer lingers through September
In Camelot

Camelot! Camelot!
I know it sounds a bit bizarre
But in Camelot, Camelot
That's how conditions are

The rain may never fall till after sundown
By eight, the morning fog must disappear
In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-aftering than here
In Camelot

Camelot! Camelot!
I know it gives a person pause
But in Camelot, Camelot
Those are the legal laws

The snow may never slush upon the hillside.
By nine P. M. The moonlight must appear
In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-aftering than here

I check the arctic ice page at WUWT once or twice a week because it interests me. With all the North American ass kicking cold this winter, sea ice is actually on the low side right now, and has been all winter.

But I saw a very strange thing -- Lake Huron was mostly frozen by February, mostly ice-free by the end of March, and is now half refrozen in freakin' April.

In other words, weather.

96 If you live within an 1 - 2 hour drive of the greater Columbus, OH, area and are in the market for a decent training pistol for a small defensive semi-auto, Vance's Outdoors is having a YUUUUGELY discounted sale on the Ruger SR22 chambered in 22 Long Rifle. This is the basic pistol + 3 magazines for $299 (regular retail is $419). Ruger is a very well-respected brand in the firearms industry and the sale is going on for the next couple weeks.

I was looking for a basic training pistol for Mrs. Cop since she is carrying a Beretta Nano for CCW purposes but doesn't have a ton of experience in shooting. The SR22 is almost the exact same size as the Nano and we rented one last week at the range. She liked the Ruger, so we drove out to Vance's yesterday and purchased a SR22.

As I've mentioned in the past, actual Maple Syrup I've seen is some sort of natural anti-depression type food. Must be one the 400 some chemicals he mentioned. Or some vitamin deficiency/trace mineral type issue.

The same thing would happen if April 16 was an official state holiday somewhere. In this case, it's just DC.

DC's local government and schools will be closed and there is a parade, which is usually sparsely attended. The biggest impact is on traffic, because the usual parking and rush hour restrictions aren't enforced. Traffic reports are filled with reminders about this, especially about roads that nearly every other weekday of the year go from two-way to one-way during rush hour.

The big questions in Comey's badly reviewed book aren't answered like, how come he gave up Classified Information (jail), why did he lie to Congress (jail), why did the DNC refuse to give Server to the FBI (why didn't they TAKE it), why the phony memos, McCabe's $700,000 & more?

Comey throws AG Lynch "under the bus!" Why can't we all find out what happened on the tarmac in the back of the plane with Wild Bill and Lynch? Was she promised a Supreme Court seat, or AG, in order to lay off Hillary. No golf and grandkids talk (give us all a break)!

The Syrian raid was so perfectly carried out, with such precision, that the only way the Fake News Media could demean was by my use of the term "Mission Accomplished." I knew they would seize on this but felt it is such a great Military term, it should be brought back. Use often!

I never asked Comey for Personal Loyalty. I hardly even knew this guy. Just another of his many lies. His "memos" are self serving and FAKE!

There was an article linked last week that made a very good point on this topic. It was related to school violence and behavior issues, but it's all connected.

By purposely destroying families and fatherhood, we've not only created a sub-citizenry of people who don't understand basic social interactions, but of entire communities who proudly believe they are incapable of those normal interactions.

There's no easy fix to this, either, and it's cancelled out everything MLK Jr. and the rest of those brave people marched and died for. They have been groomed to accept that black people can't function or comprehend simple social and educational practices, and, bizarrely, the people pushing that are almost exclusively part of the political party that calls everyone else racist and claims to want to "help" black people, and the political party blacks vote for year after year after year.

I feel bad for the 25% of black families who get married, work to raise their kids in a traditional family, etc. Other than the vague idea of a "normal, functioning society" being damaged, those are the living, breathing individuals who are really hurt by all of this and of the racist perception being forced on our nation.

Not so much a business opportunity as a tech opportunity. The question is how does one make money on implementing it and maintaining it.

Now there are orgs that could/would support such, such as EFF, free software foundation, other privacy orgs, but they would have to put money behind it to attract and hold coding talent to maintain it.

Otherwise, there is linux for for phone and desktop (and tablet?), there are ad blockers, noscript, and privacy oriented browsers, there is duck duck go and others, there is gab.ai, there is encryption, VPNs, and other ways to keep your data and habits private.

It just takes work, it is not that important to people, and to attract the money you have to attract the people. It's kind of chicken and egg.

For instance, I set up encrypted IM and email some time back. Never really used it, because there was no interest from others. It is easier for users to assume safety of the herd, I guess.

Forced obsolescence, refusing to pay the MS tax, etc.

A good firewall (which is recommended even with the latest Windows) , AV, and safe browsing habits can do a lot, rude dude. My hated vista was about ten when MS decided it was time to pony up again. Time to switch to linux.

I've run a Linux box at home (and several at work) for years. As much as I like Linux Mint, it's still not going to safely run software built for Windows, like TurboTax.

I'm retired from a major computer security firm. I agree with you about a firewall, safe browsing habits, and so on.

Agreed, which is why I added that to my permanently switch list. If not a virtual machine, hopefully a com[any comes up with a cloud solution.
