The Morning Report 4/12/18

izuck.jpg

Good morning kids. This Thursday sees the continuation of the kabuki theatre performance of Mark Zuckerberg in front of Congress. The only "scandal" vis a vis Cambridge Analytics and "stolen" user info is that Team Trump was able to use the data, completely legally just as Obama had done four years earlier (actually, Facebook had their own office within the White House for all intents and purposes at that time). And for that, Zuckerberg is to be shunned in the eyes of the rabid Leftist base. But as I and others have stated, Zuckerberg is hot and horny to have Facebook regulated by the government since the government is perpetually Leftist no matter who is President. The fact that Elon Musk is calling for the regulation of social media to stop "fake news' is, the tell. What no one can answer is who gets to decide what constitutes "fake news" and "hate speech?" And we all know the answer to that one. But evidently Zuckerberg couldn't which caused an embarrassing 10 seconds of deer-in-the-headlights for the billionaire twerp.

And all of the above is an offshoot of the Mueller witch hunt against the American People and their President. As discussed last evening, the DoJ finally released some of the documents that Congress had been demanding but only to investigators and still partially redacted. I guess it would be somewhat embarrassing to reveal Obama and Hillary engineered this entire charade to sabotage PDT. So the question remains on whether or not to fire Mueller as well as Rosensteinpenis and Wray. Despite it being the right thing to do legally and morally, would it be politically damaging to do so? My gut says the latter. Firing Mueller makes him a martyr and gives the Dem-Leftist-Media complex and the Cuck-RINO Cohorts the excuse to derail the President and move to impeach him should they regain control of Congress come November. Leave him where he is to bedew his craggy face with flop-sweat as he goes after anything, everything and everyone other than "Russian collusion" to find anything that can be used to take out PDT. And this is why Mueller had his flunkies in New York's Southern District raid Michael Cohen's office - and as linked to find evidence relating to that idiotic Access Hollywood tape! Unfortunately, as we have seen with Mike Flynn, Mueller has no qualms about destroying peoples' lives. That's why the President should just right now issue a blanket pardon to anyone Mueller may go after and then take to Twitter and hold press conferences to expose this insanity. The thing to keep top of mind is that all of this is aimed at us, not just the President.

And while PDT has to deal with this, we have the potential for military action in Syria. As I have stated, Assad as well as the Russians and Iranians need to be smacked down and hard. The problem is how to do that without a) allying yourself with ISIS and b) putting US boots on the ground in-country; an option I do not want to see happen. As Michael Ledeen points out, Iran is the key to neutralizing Syria. And, although the uprising is out of the headlines, the people want the mullahs gone and as reported yesterday, Iran's currency is falling faster than a gay guy off a 20-story roof. So that country is the pressure point that could neutralize Syria, as well as Hezbollah; and that defuses a potential conflict between Israel and Iran that could quickly escalate to serious "hair-mussing" status.

Back on the domestic side, both Scott Pruitt and Mick Mulvaney are taking a lot of flak from the usual quarters. Pruitt is actually receiving death threats (funny because I thought Lefties hated guns) as he wields a rhetorical axe and sledgehammer to the EPA, and Mick Mulvaney doing the same to the anti-Constitutional CFPB. Did you see him verbally manhandle ObScene Waters the other day? Totally schooled her about the roles of the Executive and Legislative branches while she just belched out stupidity and abuse at him. What a c**t. Meanwhile Keith "X" Ellison is accusing Mulvaney of impropriety and lack of transparency because he, get this, had his office windows frosted. Doesn't he have better things to do, like find out how the Jooz control the weather?

On the political front, in the wake of Paul Ryno's retirement announcement, the question is who will replace him? Can I hope we have a shot at someone like Mark Meadows? My ideal choice is Go-Go Gohmert but that's a pipe-dream. And I saw somewhere that Ryno is not going off into the sunset to be with his kids; scuttlebutt is that he may be considering a run at the White House. The rest of my thought is self-redacted.

19 You are simply not paying attention. We already have 2,000 troops on the ground in Syria equipped with armor and artillery. There are another 8,000 troops sitting in Kuwait twiddling their thumbs awaiting assignment.

As to ISIS, the 2,000 troops in Syria are protecting them against attack from Assad and the Russians.

We have no business in Syria regardless of what Assad does. The entire steaming mess in the Middle East is entirely our doing. We have killed about one million civilians and driven millions more into exile. We have leveled dozens of cities and destroyed tens of billions of dollars of infrastructure in the region.

If Assad is an Animal, then we are we?

And who benefits from our actions/ Not the Syria or Iraqi or Afghani or Libyan or Egyptian or Turkish people, that's for sure. And the American people don't either.

    Cui bono?

Yeah California is the wave of the future, receding off of the beach.

That article about Civil War that everyone was excited about because Twitter's CEO liked it was co-authored by Ruy Teixeira. About 15 or so years back Ruy Teixeira co-authored a book, "The Emerging Democratic Majority", which said that inevitable demographic changes would turn the USA into a single (Democrat) party state, don't you fret. In this he is saying that they are going to have to fight the Right.

Two takeaways: (1) He is still pushing the same song and dance he has been pushing for years; and (2) he isn't so confident of victory any longer.

We can't eliminate Obamacare, we can't control spending, and in effect congress hasn't done shit. But they can pass crap like this and Trump signed the bill yesterday. It would be nice to know exactly what is in this bill since what is in a bill usually has little to do with what the title is. 65 I really think it is key to understand to Dunning-Kruger and its application to politics.

Bigots are the bottom 10% of the political spectrum. They are the people who drive the left. They recognize each other from their "special glow"; which is what the false confidence of Dunning-Kruger brings. Watch an episode of the "Young Turks"; they're so absolutely positive that they're right about everything.

If you have ever been in a room full of liberals - they are like a bunch of rabid badgers if they think they are the only ones around. Their political solutions are bottom 10% - we think that is intentional to drag us down. NO, those terrible solutions are the best they can do.

They are looking for some kind of connection between this and Cohen. Mueller has explained to Rosenstein that as long as Mueller is around, he is safe. As soon as Mueller is gone, Rosenstein and Sessions are toast. I still maintain this is really about crippling Trump, not removing him. They want him weak, so weak that he wont be able to fill a SCOTUS vacancy. That is what this about. Without the SCOTUS, the left's dreams cannot be realized.

152 Don't miss that Obamacare piece.

Therein lay the basis of the budgetary gimmick Ryan and congressional leaders wanted CBO to help them accomplish. House staffers wanted CBO to adjust its baseline and assume the higher levels of spending under the "no-CSR" scenario. By turning around and appropriating funds for CSRs, thereby lowering this higher baseline, Congress could generate budgetary "savings" - which Republicans could spend on more corporate welfare for insurers, in the form of reinsurance payments.

Worse? Apparently illegal. But hey, these days? Who cars.

At this point Nunes value is mostly in helping the public understand what is going on. I think it's important to remember the role Congress plays.

Congress provides oversight of the Executive branch. They have investigative powers but they are largely charged with making sure that the Exec is doing their job, it's not really to be a second DOJ. And much if not most of everything that Nunes has "discovered" is merely stuff that was turned over to him by the OIG via the DOJ.

If the DOJ is doing their job then they really aren't of much value other than to keep people focused on what is really happening. Or in the case of Schiff trying to obfuscate and misdirect.

By all indications the DOJ is actually doing their job and has been all along. A lot of people are frustrated with Sessions for not being more vocal and dumping more information but the truth is he is doing his job the way he is supposed to do his job, quietly and out of the public eye as much as possible.

We aren't far from the end game.

166 What is being done to trump is monsterous and unjust, Sessions is a disgrace for allowing this farce to continue.

The Cohn raid was Meuller using pure power to obtain what he has no authority under even his ridiculously nebulous mandate.

Cohen had been cooperating with Muellers team, so it would appear that Muellers requests to Cohen were going way out of his mandate and Cohen probably told him, hold on Bob your requests fall under attorney client privledge.

Bob said, Attorney client privledge? You dont say.

He then concocted a spurious referral and handed it off to his NY bully boys.

Dont forget, Mueller and Comey at various time headed up the NY office, so there are many people there who are loyal to those two fuckheads there.

The others thing the NY office will be doing as they scrub through the communications is see what they can turnover to the NY AG as a state prosecutable offense, to prevent potential pardons and also most likely to use to harass Trump post presidency.

If anyone thinks Trumps troubles will be over once he leaves office, you better think again.

Trump will be in prison within two years of leaving office.

This sucks but it would seem that there is nothing that can be done about.

Not true. By my count, I've heard 5 different people over the last week or so say that any grand jury information should be redacted before being given to Congress. And those people include both Gowdy and Nunes. Information used in a criminal case can be shared with them after the indictments, not before. They do oversight, not prosecution.

The fact that both of them and people like the newly appointed John Lausch who's job it is to transmit documents to Congress have been talking about a grand jury and the need to redact that information should be a pretty large clue as to what is going on.

Even going so far as claiming other targets of the investigation like Susan Rice were somehow her attorney to prevent testimony or interviewing.

Also at the height of it, Clinton turned over all of the subpoenaed communication and emails to her lawyer, her lawyer who did not have security clearance to even be able to look at the documents, go through them, decide what was responsive and non-responsive and destroy what he wanted.

The not only was he not raided but the DOJ/FBI were on board with this setup.

But the "dreamer" illegal who raped a 10-year old in Alabama and put her in the hospital? You'd think that would have gotten more coverage -- regardless of whether or not it involved an illegal alien. And the other "dreamer" kiddie rapist in CA escaped the media's laser-like focus as well. Curious, that.

But no doubt the lefties will tell us that since we have American drunk-driving killers and kiddie-rapists, there is no reason why we shouldn't be importing foreign ones. After all, foreign-born killers and rapists deserve their piece of the American Dream too, don't they?

237 I see a forward thinking justification for taking a stand against even small uses of chemical weapons by anyone - there is a war coming in the middle east, a big one, one that will make the Syrian situation look like a minor contretemps. Everyone in the region acknowledges this, and they are all preparing for it. (much like Europe in the late 30's, testing their equipment and tactics in the Spanish Civil War)

So - taking a stand today eliminates stocks and puts a damper on people willing to build and use them, as they will be tempted to do. Of course if chemical weapons are used against civilians in that war, then the obvious response will be nuclear - probably tactical nukes first, strategic nukes next.

Although I consider it inevitable that at some point during my remaining lifespan we will see at least a limited nuclear war break out somewhere, I still think it's worthwhile to try to limit the carnage as much as possible. At least keep it to where the US, China, and Russia don't start launching ICBM's.

acknowledges this, and they are all preparing for it. (much like Europe

So - taking a stand today eliminates stocks and puts a damper on

Of course if chemical weapons are used against civilians in that war,

273 Re school discipline. I've had kids in small catholic schools now for 23 years. I've noticed that even those kids that show up in 5th grade typically are more disruptive than those "trained" since kindergarten. Within 4 months of getting a new class of kindergarteners, they can be trusted to sit through mass or an assembly crowded next to their classmates without being disruptive.

Of course they're from families willing to pay, the cultural and peer expectation is there, and they will be jettisoned if they have behavioral problems. Thing is, I've never seen much discipline other than "let's talk for a few minutes."

I've always thought that taking a kid in at 4, schooling him/her and then only advancing the kid to the next year when he/she mastered the material would work as a model. Don't want to do the work, behave? You're left behind your peers. There would have to be a class of those "left behind" because they couldn't mix with those who weren't a problem.

However, Pelosi leveraged the heck out of the Speakership (e.g. using the private plane, making her own trips to the ME, etc.), as have so many before her, so I do question not wanting House leadership vs. presidential leadership. Seems like it would be a warm-up for the presidency.

It's because there's bad and then there's BAD. To use one example, and obviously one where we had no influence, it was far worse for the world for Stalin to win out over Trotsky. Stalin was far more committed to mass murder and pure brutality, and that of course is why he won out.

Assad is a puppet, Assad is nothing, it just confuses the issue to focus on him. Assad is Iran's puppet now, with an assist from Russia who is trying to keep some leverage in the game. Iran has already taken defacto control of Lebanon and has complete freedom of movement through Iraq due to their support of the Shiite government there. Cementing control over Syria gives Iran a strategic advantage in the middle east that they haven't had for almost 2300 years. And yet that is not the goal - seizing control of the Gulf oil fields and (in order to convince the ummah that the Ayatollahs are the rightful custodians of Mecca) destroying the irksome Jews in Israel is the goal.

Everything being done by the Iranians today is just preparation for the onset of their "Final Solution". We can sit and watch it and say "huh, isn't that interesting" or we can try to head some of this off when it still can be stopped without huge cost.

I will say over and over - war is coming in the Middle East. a BIG war. All of this - Syria, Isis, etc - is just the warmup act for the Big Show.

"Well, they're either very smart, they're good at those kinds of tests or their parents paid some obscene amount (IMO) for classes that basically gave them answers to almost the exact questions." If people have and want to spend that money for classes for the SAT that's their business, but I didn't-for him or myself. Agree completely, if you review relations between the Iranians and the Saudis, Riyadh will be the first target, Tel Aviv the next, and Jerusalem somewhere along the way, and then Tehran. Probably we'll be looking at 10 million casualties in a single 24 hour window once it starts.

btw, for anyone who's ever wondered how a 3rd Temple could ever be built on the Rock, since it's inconceivable that the Dome could ever be torn down; the Dome is located on the highest rocky point in the Old City. It would catch the full brunt of any low altitude nuclear blast over Jerusalem, and the Rock would be wiped as clean as the day that Abraham first saw it.

    Yes. Completely agree.

I would support another symbolic strike like Trump did last year. I didn't support it at the time because I thought it would lead to another Iraq. But it didn't.

I also fully support Trump if he is just blowing smoke with tweets while the Saudi special forces continue to attack Syria with their C-17 deployed commandos. 100% They've already been attacking Russian forces and the Russians haven't been able to stop them. I like when our enemies fight each other.

I don't support deploying our precious 13k combat ready troops over there or some other tard headed move that gets our guys killed or pushes Russia into a corner where they have to strike the USA back to save face.

CC is a great option, especially for in state transfers to a state school. I found that quality of teaching for 100 and 200 level courses was far superior to the subsequent institution's instruction. It probably depends on the institution.

There are added bonuses of skipping the whole party scene and being in a body of students of older average age who are committed to self-improvement anmd advancement, rather than just existing on mommy's and daddy's dime, in addition to lowered costs/ultimate debt. I will push that for my kids, although we will likely be able to afford more expensive options.

400 His academic path is sensible--community college is far more affordable, and English 101 is taught the same at Anytown Community College as it is at Harvard.

I couldn't even get my kids through CC. One did a year and decided he didn't need it. Lack of a degree is holding him back at his job but he refuses to finish. The second never did well in a structured institutional environment and was home-schooled. The third is in his fourth year of a two-year degree program, but he just quit his classes to join the Navy.

Not that I think college is essential, per se. But we live in a culture of credentials. I have 2 bachelors and a Masters and my mate has a Masters and an MBA.

SAT prep classes are not a waste of time. The primary benefit is that it familiarizes a student with the type of test and what to expect. This reduces the stress levels and any novelty shock or distraction during the test allowing for more time to be devoted to taking the test itself.

A secondary benefit is that those classes usually explain the scoring system used on the SAT and how one can game it by choosing which questions to answer or skip in order of avoid point decisions from incorrect answers on the multiple choice parts.

You can get this same benefit from multiple practice exams, but usually test prep classes do that for you.

I did not imply you claimed they were a waste of time. I myself described them as "not a waste of time" and then I listed the limited benefits. Note that the benefits are purely procedural in how to take the test more efficiently. That is because the SAT is an older version of an IQ test and current research shows there is very little that can increase IQ. ADD drugs provide a very minor short term benefit in a couple of studies.

If someone has the test procedure down pat and understands the scoring system, then they will get very little from test prep classes.

Most of my boys worked some sort of construction summers once they were 17 in high school and in college. At that age the work stinks, but is invaluable both in what they learn in practical terms and in showing them that maybe they'd better buckle down in college if they don't want to do that forever. Also had one who is now doing it full time because he hates paper and loves making things. Contractor's around here are in bidding wars for good people. If you can think on your own, show up to work on time and sober, you'll do alright.

Maximum genetic Height is closer analogy.

You can have a childhood poor diet or an injury which causes someone to never reach your full height or intelligence. But currently there's little research showing how to increase it beyond that.

Unfortunately, because of the politically unfortunate implications, it's almost impossible to get funding for new IQ research. Research which could one day find ways to change that. No one wants to be associated with research that will be used by racists and trolls ect. Bad for business.

As such, almost all of the IQ research nowadays done as control groups when studying the developmentally disabled.

No, that has not been poven because the genes associated with intelligence have not been identified.

However, It has been proven to be be highly heritabile. Which implies a genetic factor, but does not prove it.

Posted by: Steve Earle Song Ideas at April 12, 2018 09:58 AM (PvCxa)

    481 426,
    Fenelon,
Not trying to be presumptuous but I've been employed in higher ed for awhile and am currently engaged in projects designed to decrease students failing to complete their degree. I am one of those Gorilla in the Mist conservatives and thus am careful about what I post due to my job.

Here is a rather brutal fact--working during school for about 10-20 hours per week results in a small boost to gpa. Working more than 20 will have a negative effect on grades. During the first year, that effect is amplified--failure in one course during the first year increases the risk of not completing your degree significantly, failure in two courses escalates the risk, and failure in three reduces the likelihood of graduating at that school to close to zero. Thus, financial stress that makes a student work too much (or the alternative is borrow too much) is not preferable than going to a school that is affordable.

I am also familiar with the test prep services and standardized tests dealing primarily with graduate entry and advanced placement exams. Exams like the LSAT, GRE, MAT, etc are very similar to the SAT in format. Overall, the ACT is probably a better gauge of what a student is immediately capable of in college but the SAT was developed to primarily indicate general intelligence.

The best predictor for SAT verbal is the interest and desire in reading--the more complex the better. Math scores are both raw ability in reasoning but also preparation in school in math classes. Haven't seen the essay portion of the SAT in years but LSAT focuses on persuasive analysis so basically English grades in HS provide somewhat of a predictor.

Math concepts can benefit from test prep under ACTUAL conditions whether by book, computer software, or the expensive review classes--some now have online prep courseware that is cheaper.

Far too many prep courses do not do as well on verbal as memorization of definitions often does not provide sufficient knowledge to answer analogy questions quickly. A lot of students suffer due to lack of reading skills that simply are not going to be brought up to snuff in a six to eight week course prep setting. Slow readers can benefit from speed reading courses as that increases the number of questions that can be handled within the testing time.

My personal take, community colleges are an affordable alternative to a large non-selective state university-- however, selection of instructors/professors are very important. Avoid sections that have no instructor listed--these can be late hires and not as capable. Try to find permanent faculty in difficult classes but crosscheck with things like ratemyprofessor etc. to make sure that they are not a placeholder. Another good approach is to go to the school, buy current students some pizza and they will tell you anything you want to know. MAKE SURE THAT THE COURSES TAKEN will transfer in the State U. system. Depending on the state, some, most, or virtually all classes may get credit. Private universities often are stingy accepting transfer student's credits (who lose credit hours) and sometimes moreso with community college students who do not get the associate's degree. If you have identified a potential 4 year institution that you want your child to transfer to after community college, then check with them (go to the Registrar's office for this) about transfer credit from xyz community college. Depending on the school, they may be cagey, but registrars use databases that include whether or not a previous student has been given transfer credit for a given course from xyz.

One last thing on transferring credits, save or print out all catalog information and keep syllabi from each class. These can be quite valuable even years later if you want to get transfer credit. These are very useful also if you are fighting with a college over transfer credit as you often have to provide the proof that the course is substantially similar to the current university.

Many community colleges are unsung heroes in trying to get affordable college educations to very mixed populations (non traditionals, first in family to go to college, typical 18-24 student, low SES, etc.). I have dealt with many transfers that have been well prepared to finish a four year degree and some transfers that were quite brilliant.

In all honesty, community colleges often are a better alternative than sending them to large introductory classes typical of many universities or else taught by the same temporary instructors that may be teaching at the community college as well. Large universities can also be a difficult place to find one's niche.

    Good luck.
