Woman Accusing Missouri Governor of Taking a Racy Picture of Her In Order to Blackmail Her Now Says She Isn't Sure He Took A Picture of Her and May Have Dreamed The Episode

Hashtag #BelieveAllWomen.

Attorneys defending Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens against a felony invasion-of-privacy charge say his mistress-accuser isn't sure what happened

The woman, a hairdresser, claimed Greitens took a photo of her partially in the nude so he could blackmail her into silence about their affair

She was bound and blindfolded at the time

Now she testifies that she can't recall seeing him with a camera-phone, and doesn't know if her belief that he had the phone was the result of a dream

Police arrested the governor on the basis of a recorded conversation she had with her husband, where she said she saw a camera flash through the blindfold

She claims Greitens told her he had erased the picture, but the governor's defense team believes it never existed

Now they're demanding prosecutors turn over any other evidence that might clear Greitens

By the way, check out this Federalist piece on the prosecutor pressing this case -- she's a real Social Justice Warrior #Woke peach.

Gardner has developed a negative reputation among police officers in St. Louis. She's looked the other way on cases into which they’ve poured time and energy; and she's gone after police officers with more aggressiveness than she’s gone after killers and thieves.

That might explain why the new police chief in St. Louis, John Hayden, was so quick to point out to the press that the police had no involvement in the Greitens case. Not only did they not investigate, but the chief took issue with Gardner’s suggestion that the police had been asked to and didn’t: "It makes me frustrated because it’s as if she’s saying I failed to do something I’m supposed to do here, and that’s not the case at all. To date, nobody has tried to report this to the police department."

Her office put out a statement on this claim that the "victim" now says she may have dreamed being photographed:

A spokeswoman for the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s office says the latest court filing by attorneys for Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens is another attack on the “credibility of the victim.”

Greitens faces trial in May on a felony invasion of privacy charge for allegedly taking a partially nude photo of a woman with whom he was having an affair in 2015 while she was blindfolded and bound.

In a court filing Sunday, Greitens' attorneys say the woman testified she never saw Greitens with a camera or phone on the day he is accused of taking the photo. The court filing says the woman also testified during her Friday deposition that she doesn’t know if her belief that he had a phone was the result of a dream.

Circuit attorney spokeswoman Susan Ryan says in a statement that the defense "cherry picked bits and pieces" of the woman’s nine-hour deposition.

Um, if she did in fact say during the deposition that she can't be sure Greitens did the very thing he's being prosecuted for, and in fact may have only "dreamed" it,, that's not just a "cherry" that you pick from the bowl. That is the bowl.

84 Assuming the rumor of the FBI raid is accurate I can only think of two reasons why they'd do it:

1) They have something or strongly suspect something big and are following through in good faith. They found crime or malfeasance and want to prosecute it.
2) Meuller knows he has nothing, can't get anything done except exposing more and more wrongdoing on his own side, and is trying to push Trump into firing him.

125 I am thoroughly confused by the article.

Greitens acknowledged in January that he had an extramarital affair in 2015 as he was preparing to run for governor. That came as St. Louis television station KMOV aired a report in which the woman describes a March 21, 2015, encounter with Greitens during a conversation that her husband secretly recorded.

In that recorded conversation, the woman says Greitens invited her into the basement of his St. Louis home, where he tied her hands to some exercise rings, blindfolded her and partially undid her clothing. She said she saw a flash through the blindfold and Greitens said to her, 'You're never going to mention my name, otherwise there will be pictures of me everywhere.' The woman said Greitens told her later in the day that he had erased the photo.

What the hell is going on here? The accuser's husband made a secret recording of the accuser recounting details of the encounter in which the photo and 'threat' occurred?

Is she not a willing witness?

Or are they saying there's a secret recording of the encounter itself? In which case I don't understand why they don't have the 'threat' on tape.

Yeah I don't think that's gonna be it, not something from decades ago. I think they're convinced that campaign money was somehow used as payoffs. Which is technically defensible at least on some level (protecting the candidate) but a violation of the law, I'd guess.

219 Very OT:

Advice and thoughts, please, oh wise members of the horde.

So, I've been in a long distance relationship with a guy who is... somewhat unreliable, and lately, things have gotten worse. We got into an argument over his inability to follow through a few days ago, and then, BAM! I got really sick. Really, really sick. I almost went to the hospital. Virus that causes very bad joint pain.

In any case, we resolved the earlier issue and he seemed to be very concerned about me, since I live alone and don't have anyone to do things like pick up medications and such. In fact, he offered more than once yesterday to come over to see me and help me out for the next few days. I really didn't answer right away, but eventually said yes because he really wanted to assure himself I was OK. The plan, as I understood it, was that he'd go to work, take part in an early conference call and then head out.

Well, that never happened, and instead, he wanted to show up after work, which meant he'd get here after 10pm, which would defeat the purpose of helping me out with trips to the store, since I needed the medication before that. So I said don't come. Because...''too little too late.' I pointed out to him that when I ask him for small favors-- which I rarely do-- he blows them off, and now, when he wanted to make a grand romantic gesture, he didn't follow through either. He feels bad, and is very good with saying the right thing and apologizing, but he has proven to me that I'm not a priority and that he's not completely reliable.

Is this a situation that can be resolved? I suspect that only way that it will be workable will be if I make no demands on him and simply accept that I am at the bottom of this list of top 50 priorities and will always be in that place. In other words, an 70/30 situation where he benefits 70% of the time, and my 30% means "going out to eat to nice places that he would go to any ways."

Posted by: shibumi at April 09, 2018 04:33 PM (9oJYp)

220 Agreed. But let's vidie forward. Trump calms the NORKs and is heralded
as a great president. Trump bends Xi on trade and is viewed as a
powerful president. Trump rewrites NAFTA and is viewed as a savior for
middle America. What exactly do you think Mueller can do to sidetrack

I'd like to hear something about this from someone other than the NYT but at first blush it sounds like a classic problem with the special counsel statute. Ken Starr wasn't brought on to go after Bubba for doing interns in the White House.

According to the Times, this was not done by Mueller, he made a recommendation to the NY federal prosecutor and that prosecutor is going after Cohen. There are dueling prosecutions going after each other right now, Mueller vs Horowitz/Huber, and things seem to be heating up as we are getting near the IG report.

What I'm not fine with is that this seems to be based not on any significant criminal action or plausible illegality, but on technicalities they're determined to turn into something big enough to topple a sitting president for simply because they hate him.

And if I hear another talking head talk about how the FBI rank and file folks are just the greatest thing to happen since sliced bread I'm gonna gouge my eyes out. No, the rank file folks have been there for years/decades, they could have blown the whistle on the corruption years ago if they were such fucking boy scouts. The Congressional Budget Office forecast that the new tax law will generate an average of 0.7 percent growth over the decade and create 1.1 million jobs.
However, larger budget deficits would crowd out private investment in later years, dampening economic growth.

On my personal case, my ex is 3 years late on discovery and the judge is allowing her to give all discovery directly to the judge. My ex represents herself now.. 402 Very OT:

In other words, an 70/30 situation where he benefits 70% of the time, and my 30% means "going out to eat to nice places that he would go to any ways."

well, you should provide a few more details to help the horde. was he coming over after work because he had to stay at work? was he aware that you needed the meds by a certain time? did you need the meds at a particular time or was it a matter of the pharmacy closing at a certain time? maybe he thought he could pick up your meds at a different pharmacy and bring them over later.

your comment does not really describe a guy who is selfish perhaps so much as unaware or not fully tuned in. would seem he cares for you and your well being.

were he some selfish buffoon he would simply not bother with you until you were feeling well enough.

while being in a relationship that makes him happy is a benefit for anyone, nothing you described makes it seem like he is gaining more than you or is not concerned by you.

why would some guy you are in a long distance thing with want to commute to you after work to check in on you and help you with stuff if he did not care? what is in it for him beyond checking on you?

nothing like commuting long distance to check in on someone who is not feeling well.

404 Yes, because that is his way of keeping you on the
hook. He knows exactly what he is doing. It is a head game. He failed
you badly, so he throws out a small compliment to keep you around.
Don't take him at his word that he is the happiest he has been. He has
already proven himself to be a liar.

He may have never planned to come over and help you, but knew that
wasn't acceptable, so he dragged it out the way he did. I'm so sorry to
be so cut and dried on this, but sugar coating it wouldn't be fair to
you.

Actually, that makes a lot of sense and I don't need any sugar coating. Thank you be being frank.

LOL. Silly me. I really thought that a conservative guy would be different. Was I wrong. It is sad though, because we did have a lot of fun together, are very much alike in certain ways and have tons in common. Ah well.

405 My 2017 Ford F-150 does that engine stop/start at stoplights unless I over-ride or change the operating mode settings. I'm getting used to it but I can't help but worry what it does to the wear and tear on the starter, battery and other components.

Posted by: Archer at April 09, 2018 04:58 PM (gbWkA)

I get tired of having to turn the stop/start off every time I start the car (and massively annoyed) so I just drive in sport mode, now, which turns it off automatically.

409 Our courts are broken. The rule of law does not exist. Rules don't either.

On my personal case, my ex is 3 years late on discovery and the judge is allowing her to give all discovery directly to the judge. My ex represents herself now.. So I don't even get a chance to authenticate anything or see his supposedly evidence, the judge made a ruling that it can all go to him. So that's breaking due process, rules of evidence, ex parte hearing, the local rules of the courts and Lord knows what else.

Posted by: Monk at April 09, 2018 05:02 PM (tcQdP)

Yeah, your judge doesn't know why discovery exists.

Ah well. The advantage to our lifestyle is: When democracy becomes tyranny, we -still- have a vote!

Progression of boxes, baby. Do what you're comfortable with.

You've been getting good advice, so let me briefly add: of you feel like you have to give two compliments for every one he gives, tell him that. And say you're good enough to deserve a better, equal relationship. But honestly there is only so much you can help someone who doesn't want to be helped.

Some answers, hopefully:

1. The plan he presented was to attend an early meeting and then leave, to get here by late afternoon.

2. I needed meds picked up since I was running out and needed to take them before the evening. That was the main purpose of him coming over, since I didn't want to drive or be exposed to God knows what in the outside world while I'm recovering.

3. Did he have to stay at work? I don't know. He has a flexible sort of position, and could have said, "I have to take half a day" and leave. I also told him to bring his laptop with him and work here if needed.

4. Here's the thing: I was really sick. This virus gives you the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. For two days I was miserable. Yesterday, I started feeling better; he offered to come and stay to help me out, to make sure I was OK. He offered several times and said he wanted to do it. It only made sense if he left work early, since I did need help with things and he "wanted to take care of me." Well, he changed his today plans at the last minute, which meant he couldn't do the things I really needed done. So.. there was no point in him coming over.

5. He did know I needed medication during the day. If he showed up at 10 or 11pm, well, I would have to go get it myself. In the end, he could have known that as soon as he said "after work" I would have said "no." Which means he saved himself a trip, yet looked really caring and gallant.

5. Is he concerned or manipulating me? I don't know any more. He knows I find him unreliable and has proven I'm not a priority. I told him this a few days ago. And then.. this happens. He makes a great offer, and can't follow up the way it was presented. Because "work."

Note to the men of the horde: Don't make grand, romantic gestures that you can't follow up on. Women don't think highly of you when you do that.

I was basing my post on her comment that the relationship is 70/30 the majority of time. Also, she has talked about him before, iirc, and he was questionable then too.
