The Future Of Journalism Is Emerging From Academia, And It Isn't Pretty

This is definitely worth a read, even if the writer makes some lazy assumptions. Here's a whopper...

"Journalism is not about creating safe spaces," the managing editor of the Times, Joseph Kahn, tells Pompeo. Damn straight. But something tells me Kahn belongs to the losing side in this conflict, that he is a partisan of the Lost Cause of objective journalism.
The NYT hasn't been interested in objective reporting for a very long time, it's just that the higher echelons aren't quite as maniacal about purging every bit of perceived injustice as the new, wet-behind-the-ears fellow travelers in the newsroom.

Regardless, The Battle of Woke Island is an interesting glimpse into the insanity of the SJWs in journalism.

The hiring of a conservative writer for the opinion pages of a liberal publication now occasions a ferocious debate over whether the cause of social justice is being served by implicitly legitimizing an “offensive” voice. Such a debate, of course, assumes that the object of a publication is not to inform or entertain readers, nor to provide them a range of views, but to advance a party line. That is the logic of the campus. And that logic prevailed in the case of Kevin Williamson—a pungent libertarian writer hired by The Atlantic only to be terminated a week later over his views on abortion. (Needless to say, those views are pro-life.) Indeed, even the language of the announcement of Williamson’s firing, which accused him of “violent” speech, echoed the denunciations of student activists.
The schadenfreude of Williamson getting bounced after only a few days aside, it is indicative of a huge problem that a well-respected writer of the GOPe persuasion is discarded so quickly after the first hint of heterogeneous thought appears.

13 The key is Credentialism.

The idea that you need a Degree to do a job.

It used to be that Reporters were just that... reporters... they were people who fell into the trade, so they usually had other skill sets.

Now, Journalism is a Major... you get degrees in it, which if you don't have... you don't get hired.

So the ones shaping what a Journalist is?? College Professors.... in Journalism.

14 The Atlantic isn't journalism anyway, it's a lefty rag. But journalism qua journalism is dead, at least as far as the MFM goes. About the only ones doing real journalism anymore are the New Media/Alt-Media.

17 Journalism is a dying business. Indeed, it's very nature, the way it is done today, is anti-business, so they live and die in a spiral of shame over what they must resort to, in order to stay relevant.

So increasingly, the industry WILL be a creature of powerful forces that prop it up, and so much less competitors in the marketplace.

Eventually, people will see there's no good reason to pay any more attention to the poobahs of journalism, than it is to... say, some stupid sociopathic kid who tweets.

We're not far from Lord of the Flies territory. And the journalism industrial complex is one of THE prime causes of it.

Posted by: BurtTC at April 08, 2018 12:16 PM (Pz4pT)

18 Don't care about journalists, they are all dead to me. They are nothing like the ones I knew in the 70's and 80's even though most of them were lefties. Now they are so far left that you cannot even see them anymore. They've dropped over the horizon.
I rate them even lower then actors. With actors you know their job is spouting fiction, even when it's based on a true story. Journalists do it when they are reporting the news. Yes, they are still required (I think) to take an ethics class. They may pass it with flying colors but never actually utilize what they learned.
Lying, duplicitous assholes.

40 Good news is that the left's presstitutes are basically preaching to the choir. As Trump succeeds in the economy he will pick up converts and lose few.

I read of an Iowa hog farmer griping that he would lose the market for 25000 of his hogs and that would make him dump Trump....

Not really, just a short dip in prices will bring new buyers off the sidelines to buy his hogs....just as we are seeing with soybeans. Plus the Chinese people are going to get pissed as soy prices zoom up in China.

Tom Sullivan last week showed his noodle backbone carping about trade wars America can't win....well no war can be won without a fight.

They had bureaus all over the world and you can count of at least getting the "facts" about a story--even if there was some spin. Even the letters-to-the editor were well-written and seemed to reflect a cultivated and fairly intelligent readership.

Read the comments section of the online NY Times now and you are subjected to a symphony of derangement and outright stupidity.

152 Increasingly, people are seeking "news" told with only their point of view.

The problem is that there are fewer print and TV outlets that lean right.

Name us a nationally recognized daily that is as right-leaning as the NYT, WaPo, LaTimes, BostonGlobe, etc. is left.

And on TV, other than FNC, which is getting pretty squishy, name another that is right-leaning. Virtually every local news network affiliate runs left if in a metro market of 200,000 or more. Everyone else on cable goes hard left.

And all the journalism schools are full-tilt SJW.

So where do we land by about 2020?

The Chinese are terrified of civic unrest. You know how the USA has a 'strategic oil reserve'? The Chinese have the equivalent for sugar. Yes, sugar. Their people have become so hooked on the stuff (and diabeetus, too -- but that's another story) that they fear widespread unrest if the price gets too high or shortages occur.

Twitter CEO Shares And Raves About Article Calling For Dem Victory In Second "Civil War"

From that article:

California today provides a model for America as a whole. This model of politics and government is by no means perfect, but it is far ahead of the nation in coming to terms with the inexorable digital, global, sustainable transformation of our era.

It is a thriving work in progress that gives hope that America can pull out of the political mess we're in. California today provides a playbook for America's new way forward. It's worth contemplating as we enter 2018, which will be a critical election year.

How are groups of people that are shooting their government and corporate overlords en masse considered "a new way forward?"

More proof that running a big corporation is possible without the common sense of basic survival that God gave a goose.

Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at April 08, 2018 05:33 PM (UsCnO)

217 California has a third of the nation's welfare cases and runs Mexico's prison system for them. The authors recommend a One Party-State because California's works so well.

Twitter's CEO recommends the article, even as Twitter is shadowbanning sitting Republican senators.

Question: Isn't it fraud to lure users by offering them an open platform while secretly shadow-banning them? And isn't it fraud to sell ads to advertisers without telling them that you are banning a class of your users?
