Census Will Ask About Citizenship Status; California, Get This, Sues Federal Government to Block the Question

Isn't the point of the census, at least for the last 30 years, to determine things like race, income levels, education levels, etc.?

Why would citizenship status not be of interest like these other factors are?

Well, you know why.

By the way, this question has been previously asked -- but then was dropped from the questionnaire.

California filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration Tuesday for adding a citizenship question to the 2020 Census, the latest volley in a feud between Sacramento and Washington over federal immigration policies.
The Commerce Department announced late Monday that it would resume the long-abandoned practice of asking about citizenship during the Census, taken every 10 years. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said that information is needed to enforce the Voting Rights Act, which protects minority voters.
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who filed the lawsuit, and others argue that asking people whether they are citizens is not only unconstitutional, but also would intimidate immigrants -- both legal and illegal -- and result in a dramatic undercount of minority communities.

Eh, just throw in some more "statistical sampling" buttressed with the Finageler's Constant and you can make up as many people as you need to give liberal states more congressmen and electoral votes.

Isn't it time for California to just sue for independence? Or for the federal government to sue for separation?

There's a term for a state that doesn't abide by the laws of the country -- that term is "foreign country."

If we can get the Supreme Court to agree that only citizens should be counted toward apportioning population for Congressional seats, this is a great idea..

However, if they decide it is residents - no matter the immigration status, it would work against us.

However.. the one saving grace in this is that uillegals may just throw the damn census forms in the trash.. so not counted anyway! So, all the shithole sanctuary cities will be "under" represented!

The effect of this is probably to give CA three or for more congresscritters than it really deserves. A typical House district is what, 600,000 voters or so? Yet more than a few CA districts are decided with mere few thousands of votes.

A unanimous Supreme Court ruled Monday that illegal immigrants and other noncitizens can be counted when states draw their legislative districts, shooting down a challenge by Texas residents who said their own voting power was being diluted.

The ruling does not grant noncitizens the power to vote, but says the principle of one person, one vote doesn't require localities to only count those who are actually eligible to vote when they are deciding how many people to put inside of each district.

The other problem is the explosion in rents in SF, LA and SD in the coastal regions. If the middle class and working class can't live there, the illegals can't live there either - even 4+ to a room.
However, Xavier Basura, and the Dems are there to appease the CA Mexican Democrat party - so no surprise.
