That's true pretty much everywhere in the world. And its a subconscious racism, they aren't even thinking about it or aware of it. Just basic, presumed bigotry. Some places are open and cheerful about it like Japan. Some are more subtle like England, but its always there.
But its getting worse here. People who never were racist before are getting that way out of rage and frustration and weariness of having race rammed down their throats. I'm seeing people who used to not give a crap one way or another, who just saw everyone as people starting to divide groups up by ethnic background.
Which, consciously or not, that's the goal of the far left. They want racial division and conflict. Not only does it justify the existence of all their programs and power and money spent on it, but like in a prison, a divided and conflicted people are easier to control.

I think it has to do with the culture of socialism. They embraced socialism because of the allure of free stuff, but now their mentality is that "our "benevolent government will attend to all of the people's affairs," including hurt feelings.
I'm waiting for someone to propose that they change the name of the country because "Kingdom" is too masculine and sexist.
They'll come up with a name like the "United Commonwealths," further reinforcing the socialist culture.

And the whole cloture thing in the Senate reflects a completely limp GOP (yes, I'm stunned too). The Dems are using the filibuster concept to block all regular order in much normal business, including appropriations.
The Senate GOP, finally and correctly, nuked the filibuster for judicial nominees. But even within the old rules, McConnell has hardly gone to war with the Dems. He should make them live and breathe their obstructionism - and he should also remove the various delays that are used to stall nominees.

I'm with you. There is no reason new funding cannot be brought up in a separate bill.
By the way, Trump has already submitted, as is his duty, the 2019 budget. In a responsible govt. the Congress should be working on that now so it would be passed in October , when the current as yet unsigned budget , expires. They wouldn't be passing a budget six months late as they just did yesterday.

appropriations bills, no CRs beyond 7-day stopgaps. Congressional GOP
should join with Trump in this. Leave it on the Dems to have actual

Omnibus CRs remove politics from politics. No big votes, no choices, no differentiation. Nobody's name is on any key vote, as there were no key votes.
Mulvaney and Short are being pretty dishonest, because they know that CRs per se greatly reduce presidential power. And the only way to wrest that power back is to veto all omnibus CRs. If there ever were a president who is perfect for the drama and confrontation required, this guy is it. It has never appeared he's been getting good advice on this key part of his presidency.

Because it's not rolling over. The biggest thing Trump got out of this deal is exactly one of his campaign promises and that is to allow the military to plan, order, and acquire new equipment, materials, etc. He removed the sequester crap that the Republicans agreed to years ago that is absolutely destroying our military's readiness. There are numerous other things that are in the bill that the administration wanted and they got.
If Trump vetoes this bill , after saying just two days ago and then having Short and Mulvaney go out and also say he would veto it, he is going to walk right into the Congress overriding his veto and the Dems looking like the rational adults. Just like Trump can't get things through Congress right now without Dem votes, Trump and the Republicans can't win reelection or keep Congress without Dem votes. That is the cold hard truth. Republican's need to put up intelligent, well spoken candidates who don't look like child molestors . They need to state what they want to accomplish in Washington, not just rail against Pelosi or Planned Parenthood. And Trump needs to stop acting like a Jamaican trinket trader, what he says and tweets does matter.

The blockage of regular order in approps by the Senate is, I think, something new (at least in the modern era).
And it fully justifies the nukyler option. McConnell should have removed the filibuster for appropriations measures (i.e. requirement for cloture on motions to proceed to such measures), explicitly tying this bold move to the far bolder move by the Dems in blocking regular order (or simply abandoning it) for nearly a decade.
WH should have, as I said at the time, immediately announced back in Jan. '17 that this president would not be signing any omnibus CRs of greater than one week duration. McConnell should have given clear warning, and when the Senate Dems blocked regular order, changed the Senate rules to exempt approps bills from filibusters. And both should have talked about this, a lot.
And then, possibly, you'd have what used to be the basis of politics - lots of dramatic amendment votes in the Senate, where for example the Dem from MT gets to vote against border security. Which kinda makes his campaign manager nervous.

Not a Law... not something from the Constitution... but a RULE that they impose on themselves... one that can be changed with a simple Majority.

Obviously, this is not the correct way to deal with the problem. You arrest people when they actually come to blows, not by getting rid of free speech.
You may optimistically think it was only passed to stop sports thuggishness from boiling over into public transportation. However, such a law can easily be abused and expanded way beyond the scope that is claimed for it.

Ask any teacher whether funding has gone up or down since the '70s. Then show them the chart.
Funding has gone up and up and up for teaching, but teachers have a hard time believing it because they have old text books and their cost of living increases have been stagnant and they have to hoard printer paper because the office won't give them any.
All those spending increases went to the five assistant principals and office staff and district staff and sports complexes and etc etc etc.
Just because your guys were hurting for money doesn't mean the spigot was the problem. Sometimes management has a bit to do with it.

time and made the entire school get out on a half day every week to

They could always do what they did in our county after losing an election for tax increase. Hold a 'special election' 6 months later in the middle of the week with county employees getting the day off. It was passed with 600 out of a 1000 votes in a county with 70,000 people.

I was trying to point there'd been other elections since Alabama with GOP candidates not like Roy Moore, yet they still lost. PA-18 was the first that came to mind, though there have been others iirc. If Saccone was a nobody, I believe you. I was just assuming he wasn't a kook like Moore.
