What The Hell Is Going On?

"People who are able to do something well can do that thing for a living, while people who are not able to do anything that well make a living by teaching. (From George Bernard Shaw's Man and Superman.)

This past week we witnessed a nation wide walk out of students for "gun control measures". This walk out was orchestrated by left wing groups and ideologue "educators". I wish they were honest. I wish they would come out and call for what they want, the total ban of firearms. But, honesty is not part of their make up.

One of the demands they did not make was to enforce existing gun laws. Or penalize those who break existing gun laws. But why would you do that when the former Attorney General of the United States of America was a Yuuge gun runner?

What would one of these students or "educators" think and feel if they were held up at gun point? Would they want the convicted felon jailed or playing basketball?

MILWAUKEE —
This month, Washington High School's star basketball player is headed to the state tournament, even though he pleaded guilty to felony armed robbery.

According to the criminal complaint, Deontay Long and his friends robbed two people at gunpoint in an east-side neighborhood last summer before carjacking a woman. Police arrested them after they crashed her car into a building.

Why should we take the students seriously when they cheer for law breakers?

Why should we take educators seriously when they condone the Thug Lifestyle?

Why are the students, educators and former teachers who run the WIAA cheering for a convicted felon who used a gun in the commission of a crime?

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association governs more than 500 schools.
Its code of conduct explicitly prohibits the use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs, but the rule book says nothing about criminal conduct.

So what was the "Teachable Moment"> Teaching right from wrong? Teaching for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction? The teachable moment wasthug gun criminal played for a state title last night. Don't talk to me about gun control.

Use a search engine for WI thug basketball championship, you'll see if his team won.

8 Ugh.

I had one of the 'nice old ladies' of my congregation Wednesday night showing off pictures of her grandchildren taking part in the walkout and bragging about them.

Someone else tried to make a tangential point about it this morning and I asked if they'd given any thought to how many people would die if gun control like everyone know the progs want was attempted. I wasn't even specific about whether that was a threat of civil war or an observation about crime rates.

Suddenly it wasn't an important topic to discuss anymore.

.I wouldn't call it a Nationwide walkout as they only got about 10,000 students total to participate. And most of those were from liberal areas and forced to attend like the students bused in from Baltimore.

13 Realistically, the "gun murder problem" in America is a black problem. Absent the black murder rate, America's per capita murder rate is lower than that of Belgium.

True story.

But the leftists never talk about cracking down on black criminality, or gun control in the ghetto, where most of the guns are probably illegal already.

18 KTYs school did a memorial "walkout" and explicitly claimed it had nothing to do with guns.

also they did a safety drill last week using run -hude-fight model

yesterday KTY said she and her classmates were discussing what to do if they ever did get an armed attacker.

I think the kids plan to have one kid on top of the shelf next to the door with a heavy jacket ready to jump the attacker if he comes thru the door while the rest of the class hit him with textbooks and chairs.

30 Okay Cloyd Freud, defend MLK's dream:

At no time has a total, coordinated and fully adequate program been conceived. As a consequence, fragmentary and spasmodic reforms have failed to reach down to the profoundest needs of the poor. In addition to the absence of coordination and sufficiency, the programs of the past all have another common failing - they are indirect. Each seeks to solve poverty by first solving something else. I am now convinced that the simplest approach will prove to be the most effective - the solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed measure: the guaranteed income.

Or were yuu just virtue-signalling, making a genuflection to some icon, in the hope he wouldn't get called on it? Perish that thought.

38 The "stop the school to prison flow!" makes no sense at all. The very same people complaining about the school-to-prison thing

disproportionate impact of violent crime on poor neighborhoods. Young
children are killed by stray gang bullets, and young boys are forced
into being drug lookouts. Old ladies are assaulted walking home from
the store, and home invasions are a fact of life.

Square these thoughts? Not possible. And yet the left yammers on and on senselessly.

He gave good, inspirational speeches, that is it. I have no doubt if MLK had not been assassinated he would have turned as hard left as Rev Jackson or Sharpton. Just look at his widow and children and their shenanigans who for the most part became Dem tools. He now has his own holiday which get far more importance than Presidents day and my kids spend more class time on MLK than all the Founding Fathers combined. Everything a crazy shooter does is merely a violent rendering of what THE ENTIRE generation suffers from:

3.) Excessive emotion.
4.) Ability to shut off reality and view things as a movie or a game.

Thanks for that, Jen. Involuntary Commitment is a very hard thing to do these days, and I knew this guy had to have been displaying a lot of seriously whacked out behavior in order fo that to happen to him.

and yes, I believe that people who are Barking Mad (as the English say) should not be allowed to keep weapons. I lived near an older man once who had shot out a lot of his windows from the inside and put carboard up to cover them. (even the second story windows) He told people he was going to teach those people who kept looking through his windows a lesson. I wondered if there really were people doing that to him, and then a relative of his admitted to me once that he had said that the people who bothered him the most were green men who were 2 feet tall. That who he kept trying to shoot, each time he saw their green grinning faces in his windows.

Fortunately for all of us, he's dead now. But that guy should not have been allowed to keep his gun.

A couple of my grandkids are involved in a research study of reading and comprehension. Not sure of the product. But they have to read something then answer some questions about what they read. They're each making a couple hundred bucks apiece.

Did I mention that they're reading and comprehension is two grade levels over their age?

Did I mention they're home-schooled*? No walk-out for them. Their Mom would kick their butts.

* While a generic term, it involves some limited classroom with other students in a religious facility, Internet based programs, purchased paper based systems, home instruction, some AP special programs, trips to library, and some stuff I forget. The home-school 'network' of Moms, and talented people who contribute their time and energy for home-schooled students, is pretty incredible.

Yeah, its like Superman IV where Supes gathers up a buncha nukes and throws them into the sun. They're all gone now, its magic! Nobody can ever create more!

If you want to work to change the country, then work to support private education and home schooling, and work to slowly defund and limit public education and the University system.

Real change is having lots of babies, raising them very well outside the leftist indoctrination system, and them having lots of babies and doing the same. In 2-3 generations, the nation would totally change. Its a slow plan, but easily doable. If people would do it.

he mockery of home-schooled kids by the leftists is humorous to me.

Well you notice they never mock the education that Home Schooled kids get. they mock their personality, lack of socialization, weirdness, crazy beliefs. Never "they can't add or read!"

163 I watched a movie last night in which the speaker called for youth to be peace-loving, for the eradication of all class distinctions, and equal treatment for everyone regardless of their class of origin.

The movie was "Triumph of the Will."

There's a reason the left finds that movie so compelling and terrifying. Because it hits all their buttons, it says all the stuff they say and the way they say it.

Because the voices in that film and their approach are the same voices and approach the left has today. Same type of people, same template. Some are worse than others like that ghastly abortionist, and some are more aware of the final solution than others, but that was true in Nazi Germany as well.

There's been a myth built up of the Nazi where they all were identical in their ideology, all knew everything that was going on, all were in on it, all agreed on everything, and all had the same goals. They didn't. The main thing they all agreed on was Germany needs to be strong in revenge for what was done to them, and Hitler is the greatest leader to get them there. Beyond that, they had all sorts of reasoning and understandings and goals. Some were in direct conflict with each other.

That wouldn't have made me offended, it would have made me think the guy was infantile and possibly demented. Everyone alive knows what its like to be offended, its something you learn early on as a child: the world does not always match what you wish or hope it to be. People do things you find awful.

It used to be understood that when you took offense, that was on you and your response because nobody can mind control you. Its one of the key components of Alcoholics Anonymous recovery for the people in the life of an alcoholic: your response to them is what makes you act that way, break that pattern and stop responding.

Now if someone does something you consider offensive, then they are the offender who must change. Because the cardinal rule is never make anyone feel bad.

It isn't a black problem, because there are a great many black folk who are law abiding citizens, middle class or higher, quite good citizens. Painting them with this broad brush is simply racist. In some areas of the country, mine for instance, we don't have a ghetto culture of blacks.

First, thanks for the accusation of racism. I appreciate it.

Second, your argument is hopelessly feeble. To see why, replace "black" with "male," and "racist" with "sexist."

My statement was not categorical; it was statistical. Allow me to elaborate: it does not refer to every goddamned person in the group, nor was it intended to. It refers to the relative incidence of the problem in that group.

In support of my contention, I give you the CDC stats: the leading cause of death among black males 15-35 is murder, by other black males.

Racist?

211 At the risk of sounding rather mean-spirited, I'm fine characterizing it as a black problem without any further distinction because:

1. the black community as a whole has proven to be completely opposed to holding any black people accountable for their actions (for a concrete example, consider polling data on OJ);

2. any discussion of the obvious problems within the poor black community results in being branded a racist, not least by the black community as a whole;

3. the black community is so committed to to the far Democratic left that it de facto opposes all conservative causes and candidates.

Anchorage has a ghetto, a large one, called Mountain View. It is full of minority folk, but very few of them are black. It has the usual ghetto issues: poverty, drugs, murders, rapes, gangs, etc. But nobody would characterize it as black.

The problem isn't race, it's attitude and behavior.

I did not call you a racist. I said that when you paint an entire group of folks based on skin color with the criminal behavior of a small group of them, that's racist. What we are here is inaccurate, not horrible.

There is a rather large group of white folk who commit crimes. Does that make you a criminal? Why don't you turn that around, like you tried to do with the sexist/racist trick?

I'm not calling anybody here names. I'm not trying to start a fight. But as the mom of a racial minority, I find it difficult to listen while an entire population of decent Americans is painted with the criminal brush.

Why should we be as sloppy as the people who call all of us deplorable just for loving our constitution and country?

Posted by: Madxmom at March 18, 2018 02:22 PM

That tears me up. Today we were called on to pray for all those in service and for an end to violence. Then again, we're a bunch of bitter clingers. Our young pastor is very old-school. I noticed today that most of the young families have 3-4 kids, which seems huuuuge compared to the libs with one or just "fur babies". There was a little girl with Downs Syndrome, too.

BTW Our local high school students scheduled a walk-out/17minutes of silence. The principal told teachers not to comment on it, pro or con, but to keep teaching.

The administrators attended to make sure students returned to class afterwards and the local police attended.

The usual kids left and the usual ones stayed. The FFA members and the hunters had clearly talked to their parents; they stayed in class.

I didn't try to do it. I did it. And it's not a trick. I was trying to bring out how exactly the same argument could be made re males, and it too would have validity.

You have sharpened my point by making it refer to ALL members of the group. That was not the expressed or implied import of my statement.

And let's not engage in the sophistry of distinguishing between characterizing someone as racist on one hand with accusing him of making a racist statement on the other. It's a distinction without a difference.

But let's pursue your logic.

"Violence is primarily a male problem."

True? Or false? Sexist?

"Methamphetamine is primarily a white problem."

True? Or false? Racist?

"Terrorism is primarily a Muslim problem."

True? Or false? Racist/ Islamophobic/ whatever?

225 TCN, I don't think anyone here believes all [insert demographic group here] are criminals or whatever. But if we can never generalize from statistics, then statistics are relatively useless. We all understand that what is generally true is not universally true.

The criminals versus deplorables comparison is inapt, I think. We have murder statistics and can accurately make certain demographic claims about murderers and their victims. We can't do anything of the sort with "deplorable," which is just an insilt.

Thank you.

I thought I'd made clear above the distinction between a categorical statement - i.e., one that applies to every member of the category - and a statistical one, but that distinction apparently did not resonate in all quarters.

False. Sorry. Not buying it.

In this country, I'm fairly certain that a person is only responsible for their own crimes. Any number of folk here object mightily when leftists divide people up by race, or by sex, or by whatever metric, and for good reason. Saying that meth is a white problem is not accurate. Yes, most meth users are white. That doesn't make it a white problem, any more than saying that most rapists are white men, so rape is a white man problem. If you accept those statements, then clearly, as a white man, you must be a rapist. It is false, on the face of it.

Can't we be better than the leftist fools who use statistics falsely to paint us as knuckle-dragging idiots clinging to our guns and Bibles because we are too stupid to see how wonder life will be once we are all sorted into our categories and nobody ever says anything we don't agree with?

So, no, I don't buy it that saying that something is a black problem does not paint all blacks with the same brush, just as I don't buy it that saying that something is a white male problem makes all white males rapists.

It's sloppy, and dishonest, and solves exactly nothing.

We cut the cord in Dec. Went w/ Roku & Hulu so we could get FNC & FBNC. However we went over our usage w/ Comcast. You get 2 free months of overages, used them up.

We are being more careful about usage, but in a few days I have to decide whether to go back to Dish, which is on a $5/month hold or stick w/ the new setup. Even w/ overages the new setup will save ca. $25 a month. The incentive to go back is Dish will give us a discount for a year if we do.

So it all depends on the discount they offer. Is that clear as mud, LOL?

Posted by: Farmer at March 18, 2018 04:36 PM (yJ1e6)

231 If you get a Roku stick you can get Fox News, but they are all rebroadcasts.

Get Roku and add Hulu you can get it live. Cost $40 month, better than Dish's $105 or so. Just watch out for data usage overages.
