Daylight savings doesn't have much effect on me but F that anyway, and we need to end it, now. President Trump would make a lot of friends by simply announcing its over.
By the way, this is Caturday of course, but its also the saints day for St Gertrude, patron saint of cats and protection from mice and rats, fever, insanity, and mental illness. I'm not kidding. This being cat-centered internet, I think we should promote that more.

Had a college class with a woman from Ireland. Twenty five years in the US and still had a brogue. She *hated* that St. Patrick's day in the US was celebrated with drunkenness and debauchery. Where she came from it was observed by going to mass, so you couldn't get more different.

It is bizarre to me how beer companies manage to keep coming up with and enforcing holidays. Cinco De Mayo? Seriously? That's like celebrating US president's day in France. OK technically its a holiday, but nobody actually celebrates it or even really cares other than a day off.
And they don't even take off the 5th of May in Mexico. Its just a day.

I read that the Irish in Ireland don't do the corned beef and cabbage thing to celebrate St. Patrick's day so it really isn't appropriating anything. Nor green beer.
I'm gonna boil this small piece of beef and then chop it up to make hash. My husband loves the stuff but always eats the canned dog food version **gag** so I thought I'd do the real thing for him. St. Patrick's Day is a drinking holiday, so no, I won't be "celebrating." Some things aren't really supposed to be for adults. If you are an adult and you're still doing it, you might want to examine your life choices.

So of course their comedy schtick had to involve assassinating the president, because what community theater event is complete without joking about bloody death?

Christians have nothing for the major Rosh Hashannah except quiet appreciation.

It's kind of funny how after all this time, The Roman Catholic Church sets the date for Easter and the Protestants go along.
Its based on the Jewish calendar, the Roman Catholic Church doesn't decide that.
Although no one knows exactly when Jesus was born, there has been some incredibly compelling work done that pins it down pretty well, and from that we could figure out the exact day that Christ's resurrection happened on.

Actually, the date for Easter was set way back in 325 at the Council of Nicea using the approximate date of March 21 as the vernal equinox....It's not like the Pope decides it. It was decided long ago....

Yeah the Orthodox church is kind of an outlier, they have a totally different church calendar. I think their church year begins on Easter (which makes sense in a way). They basically became so isolated and remote that they went kind of curlicue without any reformation or influence from immense thinkers like Anselm.

Oh, I think you underestimate them.
Some years ago, I came to the conclusion that John Boehner did not want to be the leader of a majority party. He wanted to be leader of the minority, so he could bitch and moan and hold onto his place by being the loyal opposition.
I think that's what his children, the House leaders are doing: voluntarily giving up their majority, and the net result will be allowing the Dems to do the heavy lifting on ridding everyone of Trump.
Make no mistake: Trump is not the enemy either.

The GOP is really, really stupid... but not that stupid. There were tricks and stunts they could have pulled in the convention to block Trump but they knew if they did so there would be no more party and probably fire and blood on the streets. They didn't go that path. Even the GOPe isn't that dumb.

We had a lot of Irish families where I grew up. My classmates were usually second or third generation and St. Pat's day was a big deal with a parade and lots of drinking by the guys. (The women went to mass, attended the parade and went home to cook.) Corned beef and cabbage was the traditional meal. I happen to love the meal and Mrs. JTB indulges me whenever corned beef goes on sale. So it doesn't matter today. And since neither of us has any Irish ancestry, we wouldn't want to appropriate the culture.
I'm F'ing sensitive that way.

The Irish have been here a long time, so not everyone who claims to be Irish is 100% Irish. There's been plenty of intermarriage for a long time, so most of the Irish in the US are part German or part-Italian ( lots of that combo here in NJ) among other things. I was reading the Reddit threads on the various subreddits about McCabe's firing, especially the one's focusing on Brennan's remarks. They done lost their minds, of course but the wish for overthrow is nothing new, and the frenzy for it has the posts pogo-ing off the page.
They really think McCabe had "found things" and done work that will eventually be exposed.
I don't think they have any sense of the very opposite of what they "know" being a potential ultimate result.

They had a "whenever you see fit" pass to close up to two lanes of travel at any time.
And there's another thing - why didn't they have express approval to close all FOUR lanes.
If transportation saftey or whatever the state agency is called isn't picking up its voice mail for days one can see the utility of such a permit.

The problem with telling one's district representative to vote "no" is that they can often do what you say but there is a lot of vote trading going on, and lots of ways to avoid responsibility for a result constituents don't want.

My own observation is that it's a simple demographic thing as much as anything. That is, Am Jews are mostly urban blue-staters to begin with.
And they 'disproportionately' work in intellectual fields. By that I mean fields that manipulate words, ideas, and images, as opposed to chainsaws and plows. So they are more susceptible to what Orwell called the "stupidity of the intellectuals."
After decades in academia, I can say that I see no ideological/political difference between Jews and Gentiles in that milieu. Even when it comes to the security of Israel, which USED to be a point of distinction, there is increasingly little difference.

After decades in academia, I can say that I see no ideological/political difference between Jews and Gentiles in that milieu. Even when it comes to the security of Israel, which USED to be a point of distinction, there is increasingly little difference.

Trump Adm. is doing their best, yes. And the right has not been baited successfully to start a war in the streets. But that is it.
We, the people, are not even a little bit organized. We do not make calls and fight back against the left using their own tactics. The most recent example is the Gun issue after Broward. The companies got bombarded and responded. By the Left. We were next to invisible.
The Left is winning the culture wars. And thus the future. The supplanting of our population with millions of illegals is one clear indicator of our ineffectiveness or laziness over years and years and years.

I am focusing my efforts on the local scene and family.
You can join us. Locally is the best place to start. It is the anti-insurgency tactic. Clear and hold.
Start a farm team of local leaders, let them shine by using Conservative principles. kneecap the local media, and keep going.
I am one of a group of great people that are fellow conservatives. I usually say we have a great group of wonderful people, and then there is me. Now, two of them are local officials, and doing OK. I know the others conservatives in office, and try and encourage success.

I started this with an observation that the GOP/GOPe *appeared* set to once again pass a fairly disastrous CR, with a WH having little choice but to go along - since that's the bind any WH is in, once they have accepted the New Normal of gigantic omnibus CRs, "must pass", without separate appropriations, largely without big votes of the kind that establish differentiation of the parties/candidates (the basic currency of actual politics) and without any practical veto options.
Inertia is the greatest force in the universe. In 2006 (the abortive amnesty crushed by grassroots fury), and 2016, enough people were aroused for various reasons to actually have an impact. Inertia was overcome.
We'll see in November if enough people remain serious about all this. If they recognize that one 2016/Trump anomaly is far from enough - we'll probably need FOUR OR FIVE OF THEM to actually move the needle.
Hoping for the best, but voter behavior does not inspire confidence. In MO, a while ago, enough voters decided that a candidate who said one stupid thing - but who would almost surely vote exactly how they wanted on issues affecting their lives and the whole country - was to be shunned, so that a corrupt hated incumbent who voted against everything they wanted could survive.

I wasn't clear enough. The Left is still organized...in fact, more so. And they still have their Community Organizer leader.
The right is as disorganized as ever. We could not even stop illegal immigration. And we had Years. And that is just one area where we didn't revolt in force. Heck, it wouldn't matter if we weren't organized, as long as were effective. But we are not.

Ya know all those McSnoozer posts about Sessions? I kept wondering if people who posted them also were McSnoozers. As in not making any calls to their reps, or GOPe leadership. Or signing White House Petitions, or writing letters to Govt., or dozens of other things.
Some of us believed Sessions had his head down doing the grueling work of a Democratic Republic without fanfare or thanks.

Yes, and I see too much of it on our side and that is what bothers me. Your posts above are what focused me, and got me making all my other posts. Heh.
But now I've been convinced to detach and believe things can be made fine even without the GOP voting electorate doing anything differently. So I need to work on that...that detachment. And no more of these pesky posts of mine challenging the status quo. Which will make everyone happy.

You can't be "organized" by anyone anyway. There are organizations
people can join or not, so that was a weird thing to say.

We, the people, are not even a little bit organized.
You made the organization of the disorganized sound desirable. I don't think that it is.
I don't want to be organized. Freedom is chaotic. I'm good with that.
The community organizers are taking hits on multiple fronts. They got used to having their way under Obama. They are panicked by this new concept of "losing".

I don't see them as mutually exclusive.
Organization takes many forms. It can be as simple as a phone tree to mobilize people to make calls. Or a broadcast e-mail. I would be a lot more inspired to make calls if I knew humdreds or thousands of others were too. Bcz my piddly calls seem ridiculous at this point. The mass calls by the left to corporations being one such instance.
Nor would it hurt to have a way to make people aware of White House petitions. Which I still believe is what stopped Anti-fa in its tracks.
I'm not talking organizing with a mascot and meetings.
