The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"And another thing about those Parkland kids: one MSM infobabe tweeted that she was given a press kit from one of them when she contacted her for an interview. A press kit!? How would it occur to a bunch of teenagers to make press kits available to the media? And how much did it cost, and how was it financed? These are questions the infobabe didn't think worthwhile to ask. There is quite a lot about these protests that suggest a widespread astroturfing operation, but the MSM appears to be all but completely incurious about that possibility. Although I'll admit it doesn't take much to get students to cut school, especially if you tell them it's for a noble cause. But still, you'd think that there'd be least one reporter skeptical enough to ask the question."

25 There were a lot of selective omissions on news reporting this weekend. One is that Trump called out Comey hard:
"Sanctimonious James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a choirboy. He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!"
"Wow, watch Comey lie under oath to Senator G when asked "have you ever been an anonymous source...or known someone else to be an anonymous source...?" He said strongly "never, no."

Love the use of sanctimonious, my favorite adjective for Jimmy Drama.

So Comey is now clearly a major target. More to come.

79 Following up from last thread, 'cause this bugs me:

I attended a "Passion Play" that was put on at a black church. The African American take on the Easter story is a bit different. Still true to Scripture, but a different emphasis.

Two big takeaways: 1) Jesus was innocent. He was innocent, but they killed him anyway. In fact, they let off a guilty guy to kill the innocent one.

2) Pilate was not just passive. He was an active arm of the government who killed an innocent man.

Make of it what you will.

Posted by: blaster

Is it "true to Scripture" if it misses the entire point? The point is we are all guilty, and he came to redeem us. Their reading implies entrapment through no fault of their own, which theologically is utter bollocks, but it does expose an interesting cultural narrative...

Been doing a lot of digging on Ancestry myself. Lots and lots of Irish. My grandfather was caught by the cops for running booze (108 bottles in his car). Also tried running booze to Canada until he was caught there as well and kindly invited to never return.

89 This SES (Senior Executive Service) thing is a BFD, that we never heard of from the "news".

It seems to be
Obama's "internal force, as powerful and as well funded as our military"
dream of his campaign speech. Barry added 8000 that are not vetted, and operated (perhaps) from
these blackberry and secret server networks. They apparently have a
stranglehold on all DC departments, and can't be fired. And they keep top security clearance, which must be why Hillary, VJ, Huma (?) still have access (but Trump I guess uses an alternative now, since our IC is fully compromised)

This guy
George Webb does interesting online reports (voted for Obama, so that
raises an eyebrow, but). This short one is about these unvetted characters (like Awans?)
that roam around DC and get high security clearance, and seem to serve
only each other and the shadow government.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_G9d8Ndie4t=19s

and this is a more detailed look from Thomas Paine (True Pundit).
it is why bad guys don't get fired, they just get moved around.

101 I attended a "Passion Play" that was put on at a black church. The
African American take on the Easter story is a bit different. Still true
to Scripture, but a different emphasis.

Two big takeaways: 1) Jesus was innocent. He was innocent, but they
killed him anyway. In fact, they let off a guilty guy to kill the
innocent one.

2) Pilate was not just passive. He was an active arm of the government who killed an innocent man.

Make of it what you will.

103 I had an idea over the weekend about immigration enforcement - rather than fighting over enforcement with California, how about instead ramping up enforcement to extremely high levels in the other 49 states, but publicly making it known that there will be NO enforcement of any kind in California, and all illegals for their own security and peace of mind should head there as soon as possible.

Let states set up teams of buses to take any who want to go.

California loves illegals, why not give them what they want in abundance?

Many of these guys were terrorists for Israel, hence the term zealot. The jews picked the one that they feared would bring about the most wrath from Rome, so Jesus instead of Bar-abbas. The mob merely followed the direction of the Sanhedrin. Caiaphas, as high priest, probably was inspired to choose to do to Jesus what he did, to force the issue with the Sanhedrin because of God's plan.

"Man, it just started snowing out of nowhere this morning, man. Y'all better pay attention to this climate control, man, this climate manipulation," White said in the video. I don't see their take as missing the point at all. It doesn't deny anything about the meaning of his death, and it is a VALUABLE lesson to realize that Government is NOT a believer's friend, it has NEVER been a believer's friend. Government is a force that asserts Man's power, not God's, and it has almost always been used to do far more evil than it has done good.

You should never trust it, never think it is going to "look out for you". If you offend it in any way, it is going to frame you and if you're a big enough threat, it will kill you. Like it killed Jesus for being a nuisance that got under their skin.

I think that's a valuable thing to know.

Pretty much. Jesus' big sin in the eyes of the Temple elders was the forgiving of sins. They saw that as not only not this Galilean's perview, but also as potential crowd appeal. The mob, especially around Passover, terrified them. They had just witnessed his triumphal entry into Jerusalem and feared his influence. Like many today, they didn't want to mess up their relationship with the current state.

Interesting the Caiaphas of the "House of Annas" and his family were still in charge when the Temple was destroyed---after all their work to preserve it, even losing their own integrity in the process.

Studies out now that show that for both chronic and acute pain, OTC stuff (advil, for example), are just as effective as opiates.

Which I believe completely.

Heroin doesn't relieve pain, it just gets you high. Doctors may as will prescribe synthetic alcohol, it has the same effect at "relieving pain" as synthetic heroin.

I just remember that Wray demoted after viewing the Nunes memo, which contained details from the OIG investigation. That part isn't being mentioned in the current reports/reactions to McCabe's firing: he was already demoted.

Pilate: "Leave me the eff alone. Go judge this yourselves. I think he's harmless".

Sanhedrin: "He calls himself a king. If you let him walk, you are no friend of Rome".

Pilate: "Ok. Whatever. Kill him".

So Pilate may have been in authority and acted immorally, but he was being pressured into dealing with some unpleasant internal squabble within an alien culture he may not have fully understood. I understood why someone in that position would just want to put the whole thing behind him as quickly as possible.

Pilate was sent to be the governor of a perpetually restive and turbulent province that had already rebelled several times (IIRC). His remit was to keep the lid on. If the powers that be among The Tribe wanted this guy dead, it was easier to let them have their way than it was to risk yet another rebellion, for which he would have carried the can - and he knew it.

Think of Democrat politicians half-assedly "prosecuting" cops for the deaths of blacks in custody to quell the uproar in the ghetto.

I affirmed and all of them disappeared immediately.

Anyway, leftard Ben Mankawank introduced it by saying it was written by a guy named Abraham Polansky who had "been a victim of the blacklist."
Curious, I looked him up. This guy was a committed Marxist til the day he died--he died in 1999--and he called for the onstage assassination of Elia Kazan when the latter received a special Academy Award. Kazan had made the cardinal sin of "naming names" to the HUAC in the '50's.
But Polansky was a "victim", you see.

Right. We have one pinky. And whatever the current state of DNA understanding is. (I'm not convinced that we know as much as ancestry.com wants to sell you).

I do like the fact that we have some knowledge via DNA. I've followed the history of humans stuff for a while and before DNA testing everything scientists said seemed to be mere projection.

Oh, when Neanderthals and modern humans met they avoided each other. No, they killed each other. No, they fucked each other. It depended on the scientists' view of humanity.

Now the DNA has shown that it's at least a little of the latter, as far as can be proven.

The government pushed "pain management" on us by saying that no one could judge someone else's pain. Thats why we get the stupid 1-10 scale.

Some might even say that all came from the drug companies.

Previous to the mid-'90s, doctors basically said "sack up, you'll be fine" post-op to people and didn't let them take a little vile of morphine home with them.

And guess what? People were fine.

Now we've created a generation of people who are both in pain and addicted to opiates.

Some call that progress. Some say it's a flash back to the 1800's and opium houses and having massive numbers of brits and chinese and others around the world addicted to smoking opium.

Of course, thanks to SCIENCE, we can skip the gross opium dens and just inject it and/or pop a pill. So... progress?

Posted by: Harry Paratestes at March 19, 2018 12:47 PM (F5+ro)

427 I think the big difference with opiates, these days, is that they are in pill form with Oxycontin and the like. Back when you had to shoot up heroin or morphine most people had a line of defense because of the needles. But with pills, that's gone.

That, I think, is the major difference and why so many people get hooked who wouldn't have normally had any problems. It's become too easy because of the pill form.

I might be wrong but that is the biggest difference that I see.

I think it takes pretty extraordinary circumstances to change DNA, but it is a significant discovery, assuming the news reports are accurate.

I think people's faith in DNA is a bit more absolute and certain than is scientifically defensible or deserved. Given that DNA does different things at different times in development, the idea that we understand it well enough to make absolute judgement based on it is simply ridiculous.

...Are we really relieving any pain by giving people opiates, or are we merely giving them a distracting drug to be on instead? And then they get addicted to said drug, and their body starts conflating the addiction and the pain?

In other words, if the people in pain had never heard of opiates, would they find that Oxycontin relieved their pain as well as it seemingly does once they get addicted?

I don't know the answer, but I suspect that it's closer to the "opiates do nothing at all for the pain, but being high is preferable to not being high, then you get addicted and NEED to be high" side of the equation.

Either way, I think we'd be way better off prescribing bottles of whisky, or ounces of weed, or just about anything else to people in chronic pain then we are making them all heroin addicts.

I mean, I'm not against getting high, but that's all those drugs do is get you high.

You're lucky you were able to get off opiates with no ill effects
though. Many aren't so lucky. Heroin addicts have an over 90% failure
rate when trying to get off the drug.
--------------------------------

There
is a difference between pain suppression and getting high. I've had
occasion to be on serious pain killing drugs a number of times and have
never had a problem with withdrawal. In retrospect I have suffered some
withdrawal symptoms but have never associated them with the drugs.

475 >>Either way, I think we'd be way better off prescribing bottles of whisky, or ounces of weed, or just about anything else to people in chronic pain then we are making them all heroin addicts.

Which is why a growing number of doctors and states are experimenting with weed as an alternative to opiates. Opiates work for some, for some they are dangerous and doctors have been guilty in some cases of over prescribing.

But I don't think you or anyone else who doesn't suffer from chronic, debilitating pain can understand the lengths people will go to receive some relief. Yea, some will risk addiction because it is that bad.

Personally, I don't like opiates. Didn't do much for me but were better than Advil, but I can certainly understand why some would take them.

Exactly. And where's the line?

I mean, there are people who can smoke cigarettes for years without getting addicted to nicotine. There are probably people who can take oxycontin every day for years without getting addicted to opiates.

But for the most part, people get addicted to opiates fairly quickly.

And do they even know if their pain is from their condition or the first signs of withdrawals from the drugs? And if they do know, how is anyone else supposed to know?

And addiction being what it is... would they even be honest with themselves if they did know?

Alcohol is more dangerous to society in that context. A massively drunk person (which is the only way that alcohol can relieve pain) is a danger to all around him. ALcohol can make a person totally out-of-control.

Marijuana, with respect to pain relief, is a joke. The only reason people have posited marijuana for pain relief is because they are still trying to make arguments for legalizing it.

Interesting you say that. The VA has started "prescribing" weed to veterans who were prescribed opiates. The ones I've talked to all claim it has the same effect as opiates in that it distracts them from their pain, but obviously with way fewer side effects.

My point in all of this is that I think the idea that opiates "relieve pain" is an even bigger joke. It doesn't. You just get fucked up and forget you're in pain. The insidious thing is people don't even realize they're fucked up and that they're addicts until they try to stop taking opiates.

I agree. Other than certain nerve blockers and anti inflammation drugs, no drugs truly "relieve pain."

It's a matter of getting people high enough that they can tolerate the pain. Currently, our options are have alcohol, narcotic drugs (opiates), and weed.

From that list, weed and alcohol seem much more preferable to me than opiates.

I don't really care what people do at the end of the day, I just find it sad that we have so many people addicted to opiates in this country and that those addicts proselytize those drugs to others and justify their addiction.

But I guess I did the same when I was a cigarette smoker, so I guess I can't really get on a high horse about it.

THat's an interesting suggestions. I have chronic pain, and CAN'T take opioids-I metabolise them weirdly, so that they give me no pain relief, and I just get violently sick. (ex: I was given fentanyl for twilight anesthesia for a cancer surgery. It did nothing. I felt every cut, pierce, bone breaking, etc. The managing anesthetist was most upset. I was a sobbing mess.)

I can control the pain with exercise, heat and advil when it gets bad, but not much else. But...it works for me. I'n not pain free, but I am not relegated to my bed doing nothing. So maybe, doctors (and insurance companies) should consider alternative options for pain reduction. It would help a lot of people, and perhaps reduce drug overdoses. If it saves one life...

Sure, as long as we're calling it what it is.

Doctors are are getting people high to the point where they forget they're in pain.

I accept that there's some utility in that, I just don't think we need to use something as dangerous and addictive as opiates to do that. ESPECIALLY for acute pain.

I guess it when it's an end of life situation, and it's like -- well, let's just make grandma comfortable by getting her really high on morphine while she's dying.

But far too many young people are throwing their lives away with a doctors blessing by rolling the dice with opiates.

We as a society learned this lesson once in the 1800s / early 1900s. Sucks that we need to re-learn it again.

I'm lucky that I haven't suffered deep long lasting pain very often (have family that does) but the times I have (one, a badly messed up knee that hurt enough to wake me up every 15 minutes every night for 2 months straight, and two, oral surgery for an infection in my upper jaw which ended up with a bunch of bone being carved out and replaced with a bone graft) ANYWAY, in recovering for both of those incidents, I was given Tylenol 4, i believe (tried tramadol, totally useless on me) and I found that when I took it while I while I was in pain, it would make me feel normal, not high at all. If I had taken the same dose without pain, I would have been high as a kite.

So yes, I can say from my personal experience, that the opiates I was given countered the pain, and when the dosage was right they did not make me feel "high" in any way.

But in my state, every car accident with serious bodily injury requires the driver submit to a drug / alcohol screening, and any amount of opiates in your system means an Agg DUI is in your future.

Posted by: Harry Paratestes at March 19, 2018 01:04 PM (F5+ro)

I think some people have a predisposition to addiction (or has that been proven already). I had bilateral knee replacements and chowed morphine or oxycodone to get through PT. First, it didn't make me dopey because the pain was pretty intense and it just prevented it from breaking through completely and yes, I drove there and back. Of course I took a cocktail of B12 and Oxy. for PT. Why not amirite? Some mild depression when I weaned off but nothing major at all.

That was truly laughable, and proof positive that molecular biologists know jack and shit about chemistry.

Arsenic analogues of phosphorus compounds in physiology? Yeah, no. Arsenate esters are much more labile, for one thing. Phospholipids --> arsenolipids? About those cell membranes ...

For another, if phosphate ester cleavage takes place in a rate-determining step, the As analogue will screw up the entire metabolic pathway.

When that report first came out, I expressed extreme skepticism on another site, and a guy purporting to be a molecular biologist at Caltech vigorously defended the report.

Until it was debunked 10 days later. We never heard from him again.

Your observations don't track with my personal experience. I've experienced "high" or "effed up" during pre-op for my various and sundry surgeries over the past 4 decades. I know the feeling.

I've been prescribed opioids (tablet form) for acute pain (post op) and chronic pain (lower and upper back).

I follow the dosing instructions and they work without making me "high" or "effed up".

Would I get that way if I went well beyond the prescribed dose of if I crushed and snorted the pills instead of swallowing them? I suspect I would.

Yes, my argument is that the opiate class of drugs, cleverly marketed as "pain relievers" do not, in fact, relieve pain in the same was an anti inflammatory drug will relieve inflammation.

They relieve pain the same way alcohol relieves pain. If you drink a few beers after being injured, you are in "less pain" then you were before you drank.

But only because your mind is getting clouded up by the effects of the alcohol.

The same is true of opiates.

Because
a) they don't relieve pain
and
b) multiple studies have come out in recent years saying opiates don't relieve pain, which chemically makes complete sense since there is no reason to expect opiate receptors in your brain to "relieve pain"

It'll make your eyebrows go up.

Use, the drug companies got the FDA to approve opiates as pain killers in the '90s until now based on the questionable theory that opiate receptors influenced pain. We now have years of actual real world evidence that says, "nope, as many expected, opiates don't do much for pain at all.

680 You do know that Heroin is a naturally occurring endorphin right?

Posted by: An Observation at March 19, 2018 01:54 PM (2zqWZ)

681 I mean, I personally avoid the opiate drug class all
together. And I guess I don't care THAT much overall, it just is sad to
see so many families and lives destroyed because doctors are getting
people hooked on synthetic opiates.

Posted by: An Observation at March 19, 2018 01:54 PM (2zqWZ)

Heroin isn't a naturally occurring anything. It was created in a lab as a non-addictive version of opium.

The myth being that it is caused by doctors.

685 In fact, anti inflammatory's are just as effective in double blind studies."

Yes since anti inflammatory's are actually reducing the pain level by reducing what is causing much of the pain in the first place I would expect them to be effective.

If the subject is how to effectively relieve pain - allow me to point out that 3rd degree burns don't hurt; the nerves are dead and can't cause pain. Pain is the nervous system's way of reporting that damage is occurring to itself. Once the damage has destroyed the nervous pathway there is no more pain. So - hangnail hurts? Let me hold this branding iron to it. There all better - no pain.

Posted by: An Observation at March 19, 2018 02:05 PM (2zqWZ)

686 Nearly 100% of them started with a legal prescription. Many were still
on that legal prescription for chronic pain when they passed out behind
the wheel while driving and killed people.
=====

No. If you are referring to the study that claimed that 80% of heroin addicts started with a legal Rx, I looked up that study at the NIH website and it is pure junk science.

First of all the findings are based entirely on the word of heroin junkies, because we all know they don't lie to gain sympathy. /sarc

Second, the study didn't even ask if the junkies took street drugs like meth and crack *before* going through their oxy stage of drug addiction.

Third, the actual claim of the study was that 75 to 80 percent of heroin addicts used Rx opioids "non-medically", which means "illegally". This includes people who got the Rx drugs from family, friends, and on the street.

So the study did not even address the issue of whether or not legal Rx opioids were the gateway drug to heroin, as claimed by the media.

I gook morphine daily for several years and had NO problem weaning myself off as the pain receded.

687 girldog, you're probably just still high and don't know what's going on around you. Hell im still high from the Vicodin I took a few years ago. We're all high. Still. What a relief.

If only. But not true. My SIL had a major stroke and still suffers phantom pain. My husband has condition caused by the destruction of the root of a major nerve. He suffers exteme pain.

No one ever thinks they'll be one of *those* people who need pain clinics and opioids. Until they are. And not everyone can take anti-inflammatories. I can't.

Posted by: girldog at March 19, 2018 02:16 PM (g5YYQ)

689 Obvious sarcasm. If you all weren't high, you'd know that.

Posted by: NCKate at March 19, 2018 02:17 PM (1l010)

690 When I got run over by a truck the doctors put me on codeine. I still hurt pretty badly so I thought it wasn't doing anything - so I quit taking it. Pretty quickly I found out how well it was working. And no I didn't become an addict.

Posted by: An Observation at March 19, 2018 02:19 PM (2zqWZ)

691 The high lasted about 48 hours. The pain relief lasted for years. It wasn't as effective after the first few weeks, but it still brought me back from the brink.

And it likely saved me from developing blood clots and pulmonary embolism from being completely immobilized from pain.

It makes sick to see this campaign to blame and intimidate doctors into not treating pain.

Posted by: girldog at March 19, 2018 02:21 PM (g5YYQ)

692 I had a burn that required a small skin graft. I should've told the doctor to patch me up and let me go cause I could just grab a couple of beers on my way home. And don't even think about prescribing any antibiotics because that's some voodoo shit right there. We all survived for years before antibiotics.

I said the nervous pathway - clearly these people have not had the entire pathway destroyed. Dead nerves don't hurt. Live nerves attached to a dead nerve can if the dead nerve is damaging the live one. People with amputations often have pain in the missing part.

Posted by: An Observation at March 19, 2018 02:29 PM (2zqWZ)

694 The "nervous pathway" is exactly what was destroyed by a doctor trying to block pain--to avoid higher doses of opioids.

The procedure made it 10X worse.

There are some good books out there on brain plasticity that explain how chronic pain works and the importance of stopping it.

The brains of people with chronic severe pain actually develop changes in the brain as the pain receptor sites enlarge and take from areas needed for balance, cognitive abilities and other things.

695 Heroin isn't a naturally occurring anything. It was created in a lab as a non-addictive version of opium.

Sorry you are wrong, man created it that way - but it turns out the body does produce it. Otherwise why would the nervous system have receptors that respond to it?

Posted by: An Observation at March 19, 2018 02:47 PM (mBISV)

696 NCKate, Failing to take antibiotics soon enough for an infection is what led to my husband's condition. He took the advice of someone who believed as you do. That decision destroyed his life and mine.

There is always some risk in taking a drug, but you have to balance risks.

697 We used to think Plutonium was a man made element. Nope, Uranium spontaneously fissions. Some of the neutrons thus emitted are absorbed by U238 atoms which radioactively eventually change into Plutonium239. Nothing new under the sun.
