United Airlines: We're Anti-NRA and Pro-Killing-Your-Dog

Criminal charges being considered.

A criminal probe has been launched into a puppy’s death aboard a United Airlines plane after a flight attendant ordered its owners to stow their pet carrier in an overhead bin.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office in Texas said late Wednesday it is working with the county’s animal cruelty task force to investigate 10-month-old Kokito’s death.

Prosecutors won’t decide if criminal charges are warranted until the probe is completed, officials said in a statement.

United's story has been that the stewardress making this odd demand didn't know there was a dog in the dog carrier, despite the family telling them this clearly, when they objected to putting a puppy into a small enclosed space where air could, possibly, run out.

But this seems to be a lie:

Sophia told NBC News that her mom told the flight attendant, "'It’' a dog! It's a dog!' and (the flight attendant) said we have to put it up there."

"In the end, she says she didn’t know it was a dog, but she actually touched the bag and felt him there. She's basically lying to us now," the distraught girl told ABC News.

Other passengers backed up the family's account on Twitter and Facebook.

United acknowledged Wednesday that the family said there was a dog in the carrier.

"However, our flight attendant did not hear or understand her, and did not knowingly place the dog in the overhead bin," the airline said in a statement.

She didn't knowingly know that when a distraught girl exclaimed that there was, in fact, a dog in the dog carrier, that the dog carrier contained a dog?

I hope there are a lot of NRA members on the jury for the inevitable lawsuit for intentional infliction of emotional distress, and they extend to United the same courtesy that United has extended to them.

Speaking of, Jordan Peterson said this about virtue-signalling corporations who kowtow to the radical Marxists who want to (eventually) slit their throats.

"People who are doing this at the corporate level will rapidly get their comeuppance... If you're operating within a capitalist environment like let's say the executives and management of Qantas, who are being paid disproportionately well, you don't also get to be a social radical. And you don’t get to salve your conscience for receiving a pay cheque that's 300 times the pay cheque of the average worker by pretending you're a social revolutionary. It's an appalling sleight of hand.

"In addition, you don't get to invite the radical leftists into your corporate utopia without opening the door to a major fifth column. If you are naive enough to think that the demand of the radicals for the transformation of your company is going to end with a few requests for language transformation then you're a complete bloody fool.

"It's staggering to me to watch the corporate elite types kowtow to the radical Marxists. They do it to virtue signal or because they’re feeling guilty or maybe because they're facing genuine pressure and don't want to stand up against it. But they're playing a game that will punish them intensely."

Well, we can only hope.

This is why I'm increasingly anti-corporation. If they want to get into bed with the hard left, that's their choice -- but don't expect any further favors from the right.

If corporate-types have some BDSM kink where they get off on political pressure or even outright political persecution -- well, I'm willing to do that for ya too, Sally.

I think it's time to begin telling these corporate enforces of leftwing cultural control:

Now You will be made to care.

17 What I find odd is the dog carrier stuck out into the aisle. If the owner did their homework like they say they did, the carrier would've fit under. But there were two kids, a stroller, a purse and a diaper bag in addition to the dog carrier. So I'm not sure why the dog would be first pick for overhead. Stick a kid up there next time.

Capitalist and corporatist are not the same things.

Some so-called conservatives get them mixed up. One is a standard of civilization. The other is akin to fascism, leftism and the destruction of civilization, and should therefore be fought anywhere and everywhere it rears its ugly head.

56 Looking at that pedestrian bridge down in Florida brings to mind a horrific incident that happened when I was a young kid back in the early 1990s. There was a walkway collapse at the Hyatt Regency in Kansas City that killed dozens of people. They were having some sort of tea dance event or something and people filled the walkways above to watch the dance and they collapsed. Top one dropped on the bottom one and they both went all the way to the floor. It turned out later the bolts used to hold the walkways were faulty and the engineering firm behind it was destroyed by the resulting lawsuits. I heard it is still taught in engineering schools to this day.

105 In the early days of the American colonies the British operated under corporatism. That is that the government was in bed with the major corporations who had a large say in economic policy, especially foreign trade.

The colonies were initially in that too and they hated it. But after the US became independent in a few short years the country elected a President who was in love with what was called the American System. this was essentially the same thing except that it pushed high tariffs on manufactured goods and government subsidies using those tariffs for local infrastructure projects. Guess who that President was. And be it known that we still have that system today, except that the tariffs are gone and replaced by high taxes on non-favored industries.

The puppy was a French bulldog, not a labrador as some reports said, and they, like other dogs with short noses, can have serious breathing issues at high altitudes. Some airlines won't even transport such dogs for that very reason. Putting the puppy in a space where air was constricted, at high altitude, was very dangerous and stupid.

138 How does a bridge show inclusivity? Easy, when I heard that idiot FIU president use that word, I looked up the demographics for Sweetwater, Florida, where they say 4,000 of their students live.

It's 96% Hispanic.

Ergo, the bridge showed inclusivity by making it easier for all of those Hispanic (I'm sure all legal) darlings could walk to class.

Also, the mayor of Sweetwater and the contractor were both Hispanic on the video talking about what an awesome bridge it was.

Posted by: sunny-dee at March 15, 2018 04:58 PM (QAOZh)

139 Looking at that pedestrian bridge down in Florida brings to mind a horrific incident that happened when I was a young kid back in the early 1990s. I heard it is still taught in engineering schools to this day."

I remember that one well! Had relatives in KC at the time.

That is a fascinating engineering study, and showed how one tiny change can turn a completely solid design into a death trap. It's hard to explain without a diagram, but the construction company made one small change in the blueprints concerning the support rods for the walkways - and to look at it, the change seemed trivial. And yet it doubled the load on some absolutely critical points, which put them past their fail rating. In hindsight, that one little change guaranteed that they would collapse.

--------

In college I was a baggage handler for Delta. This was long before the comfort animal craze. Dog kennels went in the bins with checked luggage. On the 727 or 737 (I forget which) only one of the luggage bins is pressurized so we had to learn that one quick. One day I was in the bag room where the luggage goes after you check in, then it's loaded on the carts that drive to the plane. A huge dog kennel came down the belt and got stock halfway, then finally got loose, flew down the ramp and busted open when it hit the ground. That dog took off! Shut down the whole airport for about 30 minutes while a bunch of us chased that dog around the runways.

I must have 500 stories like that from that job.

I was in my local Publix a couple of years ago, and there was an older
couple in the meat and seafood department with two yappy dogs on
leashes.

The dogs were shoving their noses into the meat cases, and a woman politely asked, "Are those emotional support dogs?"

The wife replied snottily, "None of your business."

Yeah. No.

167 I remember that one well!

168 I love Jordan Peterson.

I think a lot of corporations think it is still old time America. They don't understand this stuff they are bowing to is not just about a PR dust-up over a single issue.

It is instead, a wholesale push for Marxism and to remake the country and their companies into that model. They probably don't have this new generation of Marxists on their Boards or their Executive Suites yet. They are probably viewing it through the lens of the 60s and 70s dust-ups.

And reading press that hasn't informed them about Obama's true character and goals, keeps them in the dark. They feel invincible...but mostly they are naive and ignorant. But when the news sources don't give real news...for decades...and Hollywood and everywhere is singing one song...ya gotta have some intellectual reason to look elsewhere for news. And they don't.

Mark Cuban said something once that made me aware of the intellectual laziness that grips this country at the highest levels. Trump was the exception.

I've had dogs that would put themselves into the darkest, tightest space they could manage to get themselves into whenever there was thunder. Once or twice they stuck themselves so far in some cramped space that we had to help them get out.

Cats also seem to have a knack for squeezing themselves into spaces they have trouble getting out of. But with the cats it's the curiosity thing ... and just having to go where they know they're not allowed.

People today are conditioned to do what they are told no questions asked. They follow what seems to be authority even when it is a veneer. Individual initiative is frowned upon. I was going to give an example from 9/11 but I just cant do it. I am not big on the net and don't want my words to possibly hurt anyone. Needless to say, many people wanted to leave those buildings after they were attacked, but their "betters" told them to return to their offices as the situation was contained. Not blaming the betters either, the point is they did not know crap either.

I think that's pretty simple to figure out from the rest of the story. Herod Antipas (there's at least 3 Herods mentioned) appears to have been a guy who actually did have some religious feelings and was moved by John's message. That's why he liked to talk to him privately. However, he was also a perv who got off to watching a young girl dance naked, and he was a big wuss who didn't dare to cross his flamethrower of a wife, Herodias. And so Herodias and Salome connived him into executing John, because THEY wanted him dead.

I wondered about that too, but I think she was a young mother with children, and maybe had been taught to respect authority and trusted the FA was in charge. And if no one else said anything to support her...I can see how it happened.

She needed someone like me, who would have stuck her nose in and either gone up and gotten another FA, or intervened in situation. But I flown a lot. People who have not flown, or are new to it, usually won't say anything.

I mean look at all those people sitting around her who also did nothing. I can't even imagine. I know I wouldn't have sat there. And if I hadn't gotten a good answer, I'd have called United from the plane phone.

I've heard that but I find it very strange. You aren't allowed to have any bags or things that aren't either in the overhead bins or under the seats, since they could go flying around in turbulence and hurt people. I cannot believe that there would be any sort of ticket to have a dog sitting, unstrapped, in a seat (in a bag or not).

Now, I know the tsunami of comfort animals seem to not be strapped down but I have never really been able to reckon these two things. I'm probably wrong, here, but it all seems very contradictory to have an actual ticket for a seat for an animal that would be the same as having a piece of luggage just sitting next to you (which I don't think any airlines would allow).

299 Looking at that pedestrian bridge down in Florida brings to mind a horrific incident that happened when I was a young kid back in the early 1990s. There was a walkway collapse at the Hyatt Regency in Kansas City that killed dozens of people. ... Top one dropped on the bottom one and they both went all the way to the floor. It turned out later the bolts used to hold the walkways were faulty...
Posted by: Dack Thrombosis at March 15, 2018 04:46 PM (4ErVI)

I think To Engineer is Human has a good summary of what went wrong. As I recall, the architect designed the walkway supports as long rods with threaded portions midway along the rods. Only problem was that the supports couldn't be built that way, so the construction crew took it upon themselves to join sections of threaded rod. Too many people on the walkways overloaded the connecting bolts and they collapsed.

Too lazy to look it up, but I'm pretty sure that the P.E. that signed off on the design was destroyed professionally and personally.

A seeing eye dog is clearly on the "OK" side and the chee-hoo-ah-hoo-ah in a bedazzled purse is clearly on the "I'm an A-hole" side of the line but there's a lot of room in between. How about the vet with his PTSD dog? That's becoming very common. Are we going to have to have a Federal Bureau of Service Animal Certification to decide which animals are OK and which are not? As much as I don't like dogs walking around Walmart, I like bureaucrats even less. At least there's a chance that somebody will clean up after the dog.

314 I don't really think of psychology as a science, even though Peterson says a lot of helpful things.
=======
I think one of the things I saw him say is that psychology and medicine aren't really science's per se. They are more like engineering. They try to make someone's life better. They are about fixing a broke thing, or preventative maintainence. He thinks science is something that is actually limited discipline since by design it doesn't consider moral questions. The example he discussed was at some point some scientist tried to figure out how to cross ebola and I think anthrax. Because the one was way deadly and the other way contagious. As scientist is like - sure why not!! from a scientific analysis why not learn if we can do that and how.

By implication he is saying that doctors or psychologists who don't do morals aren't to be trusted, nor should scientists be left to their own devices. He clearly and cleverly took an attack on himself deflected it around and criticized the underlying assumption. He's very good and argues at multiple levels all at the same time. Most of his interviewers are not aware of the subtle counterattacks.

Private industry has the capacity to both fire and bribe radicals, and radicals are not known for their capacity for principled behavior. One of the reasons that most radical persist in radicalism is that no one will pay them, because they have no other marketable skills, and they know it. They are losers, which is why they congregate most at second rate Universities, where they can sometimes prolong their social childhood indefinitely. They can be readily bribed by a nice paycheck and pension, and private industry will (at least in the long run, and in most cases) bribe them to confine their changes to profitable cosmetic changes. Just my opinion.

You need warrior code. And where does one obtain the ultimate in warrior code? Simple. One offworlds it. To the Klingons.

Herewith are some Klingon programming principles I have encountered:

1. Our users will know fear and cower before our software! Ship it! Ship it and let them flee like the dogs they are!

2. Specifications are for the weak and timid!

3. You cannot really appreciate Dilbert unless you've read it in the original Klingon.

4. What is this talk of 'release'? Klingons do not make software 'releases'. Our software 'escapes' leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.

5. Klingon function calls do not have 'parameters' - they have 'arguments' -- and they ALWAYS WIN THEM.

6. Debugging? Klingons do not debug. Our software does not coddle the weak. Bugs are good for building character in the user.

7. I have challenged the entire ISO-9000 quality assurance team to a Bat-Leth contest on the holodeck. They will not concern us again.

8. By filing this bug report you have challenged the honor of my Team. Prepare to die!

9. Python? That is for children. A Klingon Warrior uses only machine code, keyed in on the front panel switches in raw binary.

10. Klingon programs don't do accountancy. For that, you need a Ferengi.

11. Klingon multitasking systems do not support "time-sharing". When a Klingon program wants to run, it challenges the scheduler in hand-to-hand combat and owns the machine.

12. Behold, the keyboard of Kalis! The greatest Klingon code warrior that ever lived!

The two birds would travel in a medium sized carrrier buckled into the seat. Midway into the flight we'd walk them up and back down the aisle for everyone to enjoy, one keeper in the lead, and one behind cleaning up the poops.

Life expectancy of people with stage 4 brain cancer is 9 to 12 months.

Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at March 15, 2018 05:42 PM (mpXpK)

One of my best friends for over 30 years went to the doc and got an MRI and tests. Stage 4 brain cancer. Doc said enjoy your last 6 months, surgery is a waste of time because of tumor locations.
So, still being young at heart, went to another friend that is a Naturalist for 20+ years. Combination of some weird shots and eating a strange concoction of plants, minerals, all blended up and looked and tasted like swamp water. It had all kinds of plant stuff in it, I think it even had some alfalfa hay in it. It was gross, and he had to drink a full glass of it from the blender like 4 times a day for 6 months. Oh, and zero carbs of any kind, only meats and vegetables. Carbs fed the cancer.

The theory was that it flooded his system with lactose, that essentially clogged the cancer tumors up, essentially they couldn't expel waste any more. The malignant tumors essentially filled up with their own "poop" and died.
One year later, and because insurance covered it, he went back to the original doctor that gave him 6 months to live. The doctor was astonished. Of the 5 major tumors on the MRI, 3 were completely gone, 1 was about 90% gone, and the last one was later determined to be benign.
That was 8 years ago. Today, he and his wife live on the Big Island in Hawaii.

Seeing-eye dogs, and other legitimate service animals are not pets. And they are trained to behave well in such circumstances.

486 I don't think it has to do with airflow, but
constriction. Stuffed in that confined space, combined with probably
being highly stressed, my theory is the dog's ability to breathe was
restricted and he gradually asphyxiated.

It was a lot of fun. The birds were really cute, but stinky, and not so cute when they were playing with the toilet paper roll in the motel bathroom at 2:30 in the AM.

491 399 I have some questions.

Insomniac, you've been around a long time, yes?

Will you follow me to another, older thread and answer a question or two?

I don't want a horde pile on by opening it up to everyone.

Posted by: Insomniac - Nowhere Man at March 15, 2018 06:06 PM (NWiLs)

492 I've heard that but I find it very strange. You aren't allowed to have any bags or things that aren't either in the overhead bins or under the seats, since they could go flying around in turbulence and hurt people.
Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at March 15, 2018 05:22 PM

Once I flew with a really big stuffed animal snowy owl about three feet tall (don't ask). It was a cheap thing so it was very lightweight. I figured it wouldn't be an issue. Wrong. The FA would not let me keep it on the seat with me, because if we hit turbulence the snowy owl might become a projectile. A soft, squishy projectile. I was like, "Oh, come on," but they insisted. They stuffed it somewhere until we landed.

Not if they lied. Consider The Rick Hendrick Gambit.

Rick Hendrick, owner of Rick Hendrick Racing (Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson, Earnhardt JR, etc..) was convicted of multiple counts of fraud, unfair business practices, etc... connected with his car dealerships. Sentenced to home incarceration. Conveniently contracted leukemia before sentencing.

Serves sentence, leukemia clears up within a week of end of sentence, and Rick Hendrick emerges heavier after life-threatening cancer than before. And he dodged a big jail term.

Miracle, eh ?

Posted by: ScoggDog at March 15, 2018 06:09 PM (fiGNd)

497 i think its against some law to ask that now (of
course) so you can ask "what service does your animal perform?" But last
time we asked that to an elderly couple in a grocery store she said she
was a sex therapist and the dog was a sex therapy dog. The dog eyed me
nervously i might add.

500 What is bothersome is they complied despite being concerned for the puppy. Ask another attendant? The captain? Did they check animal during the 1200 mile flight or too busy on their f#$kin' phones?

You can GET OFF the flight.

Posted by: OneIronMacGuffin at March 15, 2018 11:18 PM (Bfz1T)

501 Did the passenger put the dog carrier inside an airtight bag and fail to take the dog carrier out of the overhead after takeoff? Did the captain lower cabin pressure to 9,000 or 10,000 feet after takeoff and the dog have some kind of bad physical reaction to that? It does not matter if the flight attendant knew that there was a live dog in the pet carrier or not. Overhead bins are not sealed, there is no chance that an animal, or a child, would suffocate in an overhead bin. If the passengers were alive when the plane landed, the dog should be too.
