Eurofags say that they should have a vote in the US because the US influences Europe so much.

By that standard, we should have votes in Mexico, for the same reason.

The funny part is that even with our liberal infestation, letting Americans vote in Mexico would be in Mexico's interest, and might even propel them out of Third World status.

Instead of their voting here, which is propelling US into Third World status.

Do the Aztecs take requests?

I'm always amused by Mexicans thinking that they are descended from Aztecs (much like blacks claiming that they're descended from African royalty, an oxymoron of rare humor), little grasping that, far from cheering on the Aztec priests disemboweling some poor bastard,
90% of them would have been more likely to BE that poor bastard.

Kinda like Obongo supporting abortion in that respect. Self-insight is not evenly distributed in the population.

The Aztecs required the conquered tribes to offer people for the Aztec priests to sacrifice.

Exactly. Revisionist history has it that the Conquistadors single-handedly overthrew the peaceful, fun-loving Aztecs.

With 300 guys, armed with swords and muzzle loading muskets, they conquered a million Aztecs?

They'd have been wiped out in the first battle, and there would be 999,700 Aztecs left over.

The Consquistadors merely galvanized the long-simmering rage of the surrounding tribes, and channeled it into defeating the Aztecs, who were basically Stone Age Nazis.

Two distinct subgroups: the Mexicans descended from Europeans - i.e., the people who run the country - and the Indians, who are short and brown. They're all over the place in SoCal: typically VERY short (often little over five feet tall), very brown, with very Indian-type facial features.

The funny part: they're often bundled up as though they're in North Dakota, despite being in 78 degree weather. I guess where they come from is really warm.

Now, there is nothing we can do if a foreign country recognizes an American as one of their citizens.
But we can forbid the American from doing anything that is a mark of citizenship in another nation --- i.e., taking out a foreign passport, getting a voter ID, serving in the military, buying property only allowed to citizens, etc.

178 Two distinct subgroups: the Mexicans descended from Europeans - i.e.,
the people who run the country - and the Indians, who are short and
brown. They're all over the place in SoCal: typically VERY short (often
little over five feet tall), very brown, with very Indian-type facial
features.

Yeah, the white ones are Spanish descendants, called 'peninsulares'.
They have words describing various shades from white to literally black (negro).

Social status is generally analogous along those lines also, is my understanding.

Seeing as different countries have conflicting interests, it does seem unwise to allow dual citizenship.

182 Is education mandatory? A lot of the immigrants/illegals here don't know kids have to go to school until the bus shows up to take the other kids and they see them.

Until very recently "primary education" (grades 1-6) were compulsory and nothing more.

But those school buses are oddly absent in certain areas.

I used to use that one on Europeans who deprecated Americans for not speaking foreign languages, by which they meant French. (Not even German, or Italian; French, exclusively.)

Luring them in, I'd ask them if they spoke any of the major languages of the world: Mandarin, Russian, Arabic, or Japanese.

They'd say no, they meant European languages.

"OK, how about the most widely spoken European languages - Spanish and Portuguese?"

They were always surprised to find Portuguese so high on the list, because they forgot about Brazil.

Little known fact: the Aztecs also practiced cannibalism, per Prescott's history of the Spanish Conquest.

Not as a dietary thing, but rather as a symbolic gesture to acquire the strength of a vanquished enemy.

But hey, cannibalism is cannibalism. Isn't that right, Charles Taylor?

Don't buy Samsung. We had one with two icemakers and they both broke. I had to drive to the local gas station to buy ice once a week. When Harvey flooded our house, we taped that f*cker up and put it on the curb. I kicked it several times. We did replace all of our appliances with KitchenAid, so I'm glad to hear good news about that brand.

Last weekend I was at a neighbor's house, and their Samsung ice maker was broken, too. Crappy brand.

Posted by: goon at March 12, 2018 03:10 PM (EaQ6/)

406 It's not the campaigning by a foreign politician, per se, that's infuriating and outrageous here. It's the context.

There is actually a fair amount of political and electioneering activity for expats LEGALLY resident in the US, for foreign countries with representative governments. It ranges from the kind in question here, to symbolic and non-partisan-political things such as the king of Thailand, whose US itinerary was always - NYC (UN), DC (visit with prez), and ...... Santa Monica? At the last stop he would address the Thai-American and Thai expat community, usually at the SM Civic Auditorium. Huge Thai community in LA.

We get a steady flow of radio political and Mexican public service announcements (English and Spanish) here on the border. Because many of the high-power AM stations use Mexican broadcast facilities (denoted by "X" as first letter in their call sign).

If the illegal Mexican migrant population in the US were "normal" - small, transactional, not transformative, not catered to, not subsidized (sort as things actually were prior to the 1980s) - then this would not bother me at all. Because LEGAL expat residents here can of course vote in their home countries' elections.

As it is, of course, this is blood-boiling, because of the infuriating reality it reflects.

I'm just telling you all what the first oath they ever take says. And this is not about dual citizenship. There's a difference between an American getting another citizenship and an alien being naturalized as an American. What the courts ruled back then was that an American cannot lose his citizenship for taking another citizenship (and voting in another election), which is, of course, total bullshit.

415 What is really frightening is that Ricardo Anaya Cortes is with Partido Accion Nacional (PAN), (National Action Party), which is the "conservative" and much more likely to be pro-American, of Mexico's three major political parties. Imagine what the other candidates and politicos down there think.

And NAFTA was a good idea again?

418 I believe dual citizenship - everywhere - is an unenforced system.

That is (unlike, say with driver's licenses in the US), there is not actual requirement that is enforceable or enforced to renounce one nationality in order to gain another. You can sign the pledge, raise your hand, whatever, but ...... the OTHER government doesn't find out about it, doesn't check on it. So - in most cases, one can acquire multiple citizenships, contrary to the laws of all the states involved. Because there is no general mechanism for checking and enforcing the rules.

419 California belongs to the Unite States of America, letting California go threatens the rest of the Union. I don't want to let them go without a serious fight. I do think that the situation there is not optimal for CA to survive. Serious changes need to happen. Either they are a state in the union or they are not, there should be no in between where they get to determine who is a citizen of the United States. Mexicans are Mexican they do not get to say who Americans are. Just as we have no say in Mexico.

That was what was struck down by the SCOTUS. SCOTUS said that an American cannot lose his citizenship by taking on another citizenship and voting in a foreign election. Basically, the Court took away anyone's power to revoke citizenship in pretty much any circumstances.

440 Mexico has some 90 official languages, if I recall correctly. If you spend time in the Yucatan and southern Mexico, you'll find that the old rivalries and alliances still haven't disappeared. Most still hate those of Mayan and Aztec descent, which are the predominant Mestizo (native Mexican) cultures.

These tribes tend to be dark-skinned and very short. The taller women may reach 5 feet while the men are about 4 inches or so taller.

Like many countries, Mexico is extremely conscious of skin color. Light-skinned Mexicans make up about 10% of the population yet control the overwhelming amount of the country's wealth. There is no legal discrimination yet the cultural discrimination is heavy.

443 Hmmmm. So, Mexico doesn't like certain citizens of theirs so they have them run out of the country as Mexico is a very racist country. But they need the votes (and the money: remittances from abroad are the second most important element of their GDP, only beaten out by oil) so their presidential candidates go abroad, in this case to CA, to drum up votes from people that, truth be told, they don't want to begin with.
