Great: One Third of the Women in STEM Studies Now Leaving Those Fields to Pursue Courses in... Social Justice Warrioring

Apparently not content with merely being cartoonish, extremist feminists now want to make the infamous cartoon about them real AF.

I'm sure these women's choices to leave the high-paying fields of engineering and science for softer studies in gender equality is all the fault of The Patriarchy.

A study found that one third of the women in STEM fields tracked changed majors to either a "helping field" or one about social justice.

I don't mind the helping fields at all -- they're critical. But I would point out that when people explain that the reason there are more men in engineering and more women in nursing is that men are more interesting in things and women are more interested in people, the intersectional feminists claim that's the Patriarchal Nazis saying that, and it's a White Man's Lie.

And yet... here we are.

The other women who dropped out of STEM went into the garbage fields of wasting Daddy's money to show Daddy that you don't want any part of him or his Patriarchy, except the part about being supported with no expectation of ever being able to pay back the loans he co-guaranteed.

Led by Colorado School of Mines professor Greg Rulifson, the study tracked 34 freshmen engineering majors over the course of four years to explore what makes students, especially women, abandon engineering in lieu of other fields.

Of the 21 female students interviewed, fully one-third left engineering by their junior year. Rulifson and his co-author Angela Bielefeldt identified one factor common to all female students who left: the desire to "help society/other people," or "social responsibility."

The "social responsibility" definition includes "care for the marginalized and disadvantaged," "environmental conservation," and "empathy," the professors noted.

Empathy is a real Growth Field. Women working in that field can make upwards of 79 cents on each dollar that Male Empathy Workers make.

Of the 21 female students, 14 expressed a strong dedication to social responsibility. Half of those students eventually switched majors upon realizing they wanted to pursue fields they felt had more to do with helping people.

NTTAWT. If there were some massive societal push for men to go into studies that have been tremendously dominated by women, I think a lot of them would also find that they hate it (and/or can't hack it) and would drop out too.

No surprise. About 1/3 of women who go into STEM fields don't belong there. Well, a more than 1/3, actually. But they are being told that they will have no problem with the math and stuff ... because men and women are all the same. But then they come face-to-face with reality.

But let's face the facts that most women don't want those types of jobs with those types of hours. Oh, and STEM isn't some get rich career choice. Most of the female vet students will end up taking eight years of schooling and in the end either leave the field or find ways to work part time. Wasting limited training space and resources on people unlikely to continue in the field doesn't make sense.

135 In the 80s as a TA I taught at Colorado School of Mines. One of the courses I taught was remedial math. The course was principally designed for incoming foreign students, to get them familiar with English language terms and pronunciations.

I was surprised at how many US students were in the course, and how much assistance they needed at it. I wondered at the time, how they could not know by the time they graduated from High School whether or not they were interested in STEM (which acronym I did not know back then) as to why they weren't better prepared.

Mostly guys, and I'll bet very few, if any, of THEM lasted more than a year or two.

Did the study look at guys, too? And if so, were the results any different?

136 Or perhaps only 34 out of however many freshman women admitted actually left the engineering school over 4 years and they are ignoring all the ones who stayed in the field. 34 quit engineering school and 21 agreed to be interviewed. That seems credible. But its a meaningless study. Probably 34 or more men quit engineering school too. Some of those probably because, shit I can make nearly as good money within a year if I go into welding; plus the ones who left for an easier field but told themselves it was because they wanted to help people, or mebbe some of the dudes honestly went "I want to manage people, not run #s"

I guess in the age of AGW scam papers a fluff study about why people who drop out of a tough program justify the decision to themselves is no big deal but it still bugs me.

"This bridge is not just someplace to someplace else," Rosenberg said. "It will have places where people can study, where they can contemplate, where they can observe the incredible traffic and dynamism of West Dade."

Plenty of dynamism today! Right, chief?

or these particular women are lazy

Like others have mentioned here, we're the only female or the one of a few in compsci classes. At least that is how it used to be. I went to an engineering school. Few and far between. But you have to actually use your brain, solve problems and work hard.

Perhaps it would have been better to downshift from "Prestigious Name University" (overrated) to "State College" and still get that Engineering degree. But that is water past the dam now.

273 I can do math and took plenty of it. I'm as good as my engineer son and less good than my 14 year old who will probably be another engineer. I had NO interest in engineering, but my dad insisted that I at least use one of my majors for something not too fluffy and so I got a MA in Applied Economics and eventually (paid for by the company, not me) an MBA. I also got an MRS which has been far more lucrative. However, what I ended up falling into was writing FOR engineers and rewriting what they wrote into English until they tapped me as a full time proposal writer/manager. I could have done that with no math.

All grown up, I could be interested in engineering, but I certainly couldn't have sustained any interest when I was in my early 20s. I could just barely tolerate calculus, stats and accounting. 2 of my sons do have an interest especially with the stuff they're building with 3D printers.

Not so much anymore. My niece and my nephew's wife, both of whom have very good jobs, went back to work full time within months of giving birth. My niece who is an engineer works for a tech company that has on site child care, including for infants. She can see her baby any time she wants via her smart phone or laptop, and she can go over to see the baby on her breaks. My nephew and his wife's baby is in childcare not at the workplace, but they can see the child via phones and laptops. Most young moms I know now expect to work full time.

Leftist views can be ranked from 0 to 10 (0 being centrist to 10 being well beyond Stalin) determined by what percentage of Leftist Talking points she agrees with and how strongly she agrees (or disagrees) with them.

Hotness can also be determined on a scale of 0 to 10 as well.

If a girl's leftism score is less than or equal to her hotness score AND her leftism score is less than 10 (a girl with a Leftism score of 10 may actively try to kill you) the SJW can be overlooked.

352 Rumor has it that Stormy Daniels started out in STEM and then boldly changed her major because her Stephen Hawkingesque calculations convinced her that 60 miles of cock from 6000 men in the sex industry would eventually lead her someday to a magnificent retirement payday.

Posted by: Fritz at March 15, 2018 06:23 PM (bJ0w+)

Hmmm ...

60 Miles * 5280 Feet * 12 Inches = 3,801,600 Inches of Cock (IOC).

Let's Back/Check this ... using the standard Eight Inches for Eight Minutes (8/ criteria of Male Porn Stardom. I'll also be using a conservative One Stroke per Second (S/sec) delivery rate.

8 Minutes * 60 Seconds * 8 Inches = 3,840 IOC

3,801,600 IOC / 3,840 IOC = 990 Cock Events. Stormy Daniels appeared in 151 film credits. So, assuming 3 scenes per film, and a much more conservative 453 Cock Events ...

We can project that Miss Daniels has probably received around 30 Miles of Cock (MOC) on-screen. Increased delivery rates would be offset by scenes involving non-cock delivery activities. Also, we can confidently project that Miss Daniels engaged in less than 500 Cock Events (CEs), involving far fewer than Cock Delivery Systems.

364 I would take someone with a real History or English degree over almost all of the non STEM degrees out there today. Of course most of the liberal arts departments today are just SJW factories, it was not always this way.

And EVERY undergraduate college education should have the traditional liberal arts as a foundation, math, science, history, English, logic, etc. But I am pissing in the wind at this point, those days are over I guess. Now most non major related courses are forced SJW indoctrination.

I go under the assumption that those who excel at STEM are intelligent enough to learn traditional liberal arts on their own if their schools aren't requiring it.

365 Empathy is a real Growth Field. Women working in that field can make upwards of 79 cents on each dollar that Male Empathy Workers make.

++++

Of course, the people being hurt the most are the women who buy the bs that they should be pursuing STEM degrees to fight the patriarchy only to have to change majors when they find they are either not capable or not motivated to stay on that track. It it years wasted from *their* lives when they end up changing majors and ending up with no benefit from many of the classes they already completed.

One of the things that keep women's wages down is just less time spent in their profession, usually because they have babies. But, delaying their start by a year or two because they were on the wrong degree track doesn't help either.

415 As a woman engineer I can tell you there are many reasons why women drop out of STEM. Some of them are:

lack of interest. There are a lot of people/institutions/programs encouraging women to go into STEM, but a lot of those women try it out and decide they like doing other things more.

longer work hours.
Women who want families need to be working on that in their 20's, early 30's at the latest, and that's the age when high-tech workers work crazy hours. Society is selling women a bill of goods by telling them they can delay their families for a career. If your kids have any special needs... forget about it.

salary - (taxes + childcare) = low return on work-hour investment (for married STEM ladies).
I know a lot of tech women who left STEM careers to be stay-at-home moms because their take-home pay wasn't worth all the hours you have to put in, once you factored in childcare and taxes. Women in high-paying stem fields often have husbands in the same field, so they get hit hard by high marginal rates.

421 leaving "Now" because they weren't leaving STEM majors "before" the study? One study, 21 female, apparently 13 male (to arrive at the total given as "34")? This is enough to set off some sort of panic? You're losing it, Ace.

It is a wake up call...like real coffee in the morning. This is the future of womanhood unless a course correction is done, and fast.

Historians several hundred years from now in Dark Age II will be going on about how woman got the vote and blew up New Rome. Emperor Lord Xi XVI will write the preface...

442 This isn't a particularly useful sample. I'm sure plenty of men discover their inner marxist and switch out of STEM fields too. Failing a physics course tends to do that to people.

STEM degrees tend to average almost full gpa point lower then your (insert repressed victim) studies and ethnomusicology majors (~3.0 compared to 3.8/3.9).

443 There is a weed-out course in all decent engineering programs where they see who is serious and who isn't. Ours was at the ass end of 6:00 AM and no quarter was given on the grading or expectations.

You get the wannabes out early so that time and resources aren't wasted on people who will never be engineers.

The "social responsibility" excuse for people who are leave the program is like the "spend more time with the family" canard that people use when they are forced out of their jobs.

444 Yesterday, two local Amarillo weather girls decided to wear purple while on air to support the cause of more women going into STEM fields. I cannot figure out what the problem is: are there any cases where women were barred from those fields because they are women, say, since 1975? And what's wrong with letting ALL the boys and girls know they are free to do what they want, and just let the chips fall where they may?
(I on the other hand knew my limitations and went for history degrees. How I avoided the Marxism that was prevalent, especially in the grad program, is a mark of pride. But of course, I've seen the results up close and they aren't pretty.)

446 What they found is that in bad old countries where women are not safe, women stay right with those STEM careers. It's only in the west, where they have choices, where women change to other fields. So if we increase the stonings and clitorectomies, everything will work out, 50-50.

447 Ya know. When we said it wasn't a good idea to send huge numbers of women to college...Did you ever think for just a second that MAYBE just MAYBE we weren't ignorant rock headed sexist pigs and MAYBE just MAYBE we had a good reason for it?

456 Engineering not a helping profession?

Please!

You can:
- create and manufacture products that people use to make their lives easier, better, and safer
- build safe roads and bridges
- employ many blue-collar and semi-skilled people in well-paying jobs
- make medical equipment that help people live longer
- teach, in a high school program, students about the profession, and help identify those students who could, with encouragement, succeed in engineering and manufacturing

AND, get paid at least as much - and often MORE - than men doing the same job.

What idiots.
