That would seem to go with the pic.

I think someone has come calling at the door and the intrusion is not welcome.

He's painting the girl nude, as you see on the easel. She's ducking for privacy. What I don't get is how she got her corset laced that fast, because she's clearly uncorseted on the easel and strapped down as we see her here.

Hogarth's paintings are entire novels and fun to look at. There is a lot of detail and you really need to study them to get the full meaning. His works critique contemporary British society and many consider him the father of the political cartoon.

118 Now that you mention it, that does look like the pattern for an anteater's fur. And artist is from Brazil.

Posted by: Anna Puma (HQCaR) at March 13, 2018 09:55 AM (ENmf2)

119 OK, I like this a lot.

I think someone has come calling at the door and the intrusion is not welcome.

He's painting the girl nude, as you see on the easel. She's ducking for privacy. What I don't get is how she got her corset laced that fast, because she's clearly uncorseted on the easel and strapped down as we see her here.

Posted by: Bandersnatch at March 13, 2018 09:31 AM (fuK7c)

I like this painting too, though I wish the girl were a redhead. In any event, it reminds me of a joke:

An artist's model arrives at his studio. "I was out very late last night," the artist tells her, "and I'm really too tired to work. Why don't you just sit down and have a cup of coffee with me?"

So the model pours herself a cup and the two are chatting when suddenly they hear heavy footsteps on the stairway.

"Oh, my God, that's my wife!" the artist panics. "Quick, take your clothes off!"

Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at March 13, 2018 09:56 AM (kqsXK)

120 I'd assume the artist is looking at his front door behind the drapes. (His studio faces a lake.) Somebody's not happy his girl is posing for an artiste.

Posted by: Corona at March 13, 2018 09:56 AM (2bC+G)

121 Wait...so he's a Peeping Tom who paints who he's peeping, and she's a Peeping Tomisina who likes to strip while she's peeping?

Because he ain't painting the girl with the short hair, as his painting clearly shows.

This painting has mental problems.....

When I was significantly younger, and not the wise paragon of virtue I am today, once, just once, and only briefly, I became entangled with a woman whose husband was mean and had kicked her out. That was her story. I quickly found out a) her husband was actually a really good guy and 2) she was that into which one should know not to stick it.

One of the few times I found myself randomly wandering and ended up in a church. To my amazement got some answers.

=====================

I don't know if I agree, Bander. One woman I'm friends with simply isn't monogamous. She busted up two marriages with outside sex and finally realized she needs to ixnay on the marriage-ay and just have boyfriends. Another woman I know who was caught recently says in a confused sort of way that she had no good reason (her husband is a good husband, in other words), except she was not ready to give up her youth and become middle-aged. That's no reason, that's a self-delusion.

So, some people aren't cut out for marriage and some delude themselves. Maybe some have "reasons", but I bet that's a small minority.

Any cleaning at Foggy Bottom is a good thing. And if Tillerson wasn't on board with Iran and Korea policy then he was an impediment. Yes.
I think it's good to appoint people who have experience with negotiations where their company's success (not just their own personal success) depended on it. Politicians seem to be more focused on what negotiations does for their legacy - such as Kerry and Obama - and with that in mind, any deal is better than failure, even when it hurts US/other allies in the long run.

With what has been happening in the Middle East recently I don't think the old rules are as relevant.

The new ruler in SA going to Egypt and visiting a Coptic Christian church was a huge step, reports of SA and Israel having secret meetings regarding fighting back against Iran and their proxies, etc.

Trump has really reset the dynamic in the Middle East and some of the long embedded hostilities seem to be easing bigly. I don't know what Tillerson's contribution to this was if any but I don't think we can look at the Middle East strictly as Israel vs all the Arab states any longer.

286 Humans are troup animals. Banding together under a main alpha leader who gets most of the sex. Well actually all of it except that which gets stolen by an occasional brave beta.

But the betas wouldn't get laid at all if it was just up to them being sneaky. Troups observed have noted that quite a few females will arrange to be where the alpha can't observe them just when a certain beta happens to wander by.

Takes two. Takes two. None of us are really up for monogamy 100% of the time. Well very few. I supposed there's some. And bravo to them.

300 "Leftists are convinced that the affair with Stormy will lead to impeachment. Cuz that 130k was a campaign finance law violation."

The purpose of campaign finance laws is to prevent unknown outsiders from gaining undue influence over a candidate. In this case, IF the worst case that they are making is true (and I'm not saying it is, just imagining the worst case) then it is still simply a candidate donating money to himself, which he is allowed to do. That does appear to violate some reporting rules, but violations of this kind are usually dealt with by an ex post facto declaration and a $500 fine.

Some of it started a couple years ago and wasn't really in response to religion, it was economics.

A good portion of the Middle East and SA in particular has put in place plans to diversify their economies away from their reliance on oil. SA is building a massive new city at a cost of over $500 billion that will be powered completely by wind and solar and is designed to show off all sorts of new technologies.

I think their acknowledgment that the must change and modernize or risk a catastrophe as oil prices continue to fall is at least as big a motivator as the threat of Iran.

358 The Bloomberg headline:

Dick's Is Tumbling, and Its Woes Have Nothing to Do With Guns

The lede:

Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. has vowed to limits sales of guns. Its problem, however, is poor sales of everything else. (Framed as if one had NOTHING to do with the other, natch.)

Only weeks after winning accolades from gun-control advocates for ending sales of assault rifles at its Field & Stream stores, Dick's posted a deeper-than-expected sales decline. Its stock sank the most in four months Tuesday in the wake of the quarterly report, which reflected struggles with excess inventory and deep discounting.

Netanyahu on Sunday during his interview on Levin's Fox show said exactly the opposite. He was talking about the freedom of religion that is practiced in Israel(vs. that ideology the pali's espouse) . He said he has Arabs working in his government, in his cabinet, and in his military. That include Muslims. He went on to say that Christianity in Israel if the group experiencing the largest growth and it is welcome due to the common history and value system.

He also talked about how most of the ME is very concerned about Iran's ruling gov. That they all know they are all in it's targets to enlarge and establish a caliphate.

He asked viewers to imagine an Iran with ICBM,'s and nuclear warheads, and nuclear dirty bombs they would give to terrorists throughout the world. This is what they are striving to do, and all the other Gulf states know this.

392 344 I think that the Nutso Iranians have got the Saudis realizing that religious zealotry is dangerous and deadly.

the Sauds have been helping fund zealotry for decades."

Not many Americans realize the really dangerous gamble that the Saudis made decades ago, which eventually resulted in Bin Laden (which did actually horrify them). The so-called "ruling family", the House of Saud, is better thought of as a ruling tribe in our times. Contains roughly 15,000 members, and all the wealth and power is controlled by the top 2,000 or so. Saudi Kings have not had the power we associate with European Royalty - it is more accurate to think of them as the Chairmen of the Board, representing those 2,000 very wealthy and personally powerful members of the House of Saud.

The House of Saud is a literal aristocracy controlling all of the businesses, all government agencies, all of the money - they run everything, and behind closed doors all Westerners who've seen them agree that they are notoriously corrupt and decadent, just like very rich people with absolute power are everywhere.

SO they couldn't hide this forever, and they started to worry that if the 9 million poor people they rule ever got together and figured out what was going on, they would be history real fast. They came up with a brilliant plan to first, preach JIHAD! and Holy Faith to all the poor people they ruled, in order to get them thinking about the next world, not this one, and then they provided them all the money they wanted to go to OTHER people's countries and cause trouble and get killed, because that way the House of Saud didn't have to deal with them.

And that's why they were giving money to Bin Laden and making it easy for him to get a constant pipeline of recruits from Saudi - their plan was to radicalize them, ship them off, laugh behind closed doors when they got killed. It was a really nasty, cynical plan - and eventually it backfired on them in a big way, and on the rest of us too. Bin Laden himself actually figured this out, which is why he hated the Saudi Royals so much - we never talked about this aspect much, but he said it constantly in his messages that he would ship out.

The Twin Towers were the collateral damage of the House of Saud's crowd control plan.
