He was a devout Catholic and was courteous to all and sundry. He would also say the most stone cold, flat out racist things about Koreans I've ever heard anyone say. I mean just appalling stuff.

Literally a commando. Terrifying man to face. And a wonderful voice and actor. Its sad, he wanted to play gandalf so bad all his life, but by the time the chance came up he was too old.
He'd busted his arm by the time he did many of the scenes as Saruman. You can kind of tell, one arm is tucked away. Didn't stop him from doing the scenes, though. Acting with a broken arm is nothing compared to what he'd been through.

I read a book called "The Forgotten Highlander's" which was a POWs experience. It was a riveting story and a true triumph of the human spirit. I'd recommend it for everyone to get some perspective on life and how good we all have it.

You never know. That's one thing I love about L'Amour's books. He reminds readers regularly that the raid on Northfield was shot to pieces even though it seemed like a sleepy boring town full of nobodies, because there were military vets and people who'd fought off Indian invasions and served in wars overseas, men who were death dealers. Just because they're dressed like civilians doesn't mean they're weak.

When I asked him why, he said too many friends had been killed by the Japanese Zero fighters made by Mitsubishi. I to this day won't buy Mitsubishi in his honor. The demographics are not in the Euro's favor. They're an aging population who didn't reproduce and they're importing young Muslim men. If all the elderly Euros were like John Nixon it wouldn't be a problem but we know they are not.

We can speculate all we want (and the SRO's leaving the job suggests he was armed but not engaged) but we still don't know for certain the explicit details. Maybe his job was to actually call in backup before engaging single-handedly. We don't know the local enforcement policies/procedures and we don't have enough facts. And, given the PD's record, they shouldn't have public trust by default, either.

The SRO was armed and present when the shooting started. He did both jack and shit. A Daily Mail report says responding police used the school's security cameras to monitor the shooter. They didn't know the video was on a friggin' TWENTY MINUTE DELAY. So they believed he was still in the building long after he'd left.

In Berlin, we had the 82nd Airborne colocated with Soviet forces (the only area this was true). They had to prove what good shots they were Once they shot a number of Soviet looters dead, there was a lot less outrages against the Germans.

Didn't matter. They were still willing to fight after the two bombs were dropped. Only the revision of the unconditional surrender did they relent and agree to stop hostilities.To try to take the islands without the bombs would've been a disaster and we couldn't wait because Russia was going to invade and that was a big no no as far as strategic importance.

My uncle was killed on Saipan and I have very strong feelings obviously about that nation and its people, especially of that generation.
Ironically, my dad, who was an artist did not harbor any ill will towards Nisei Japanese or those too young to have been alive at that time, and he greatly admired and imitated Japanese styles in his artwork.
The Germans are another story. I refuse to ever set foot in Germany or Austria.

I can absolutely confirm that the agency I belonged to had a firm policy that first officer on the scene of an active shooter was to go in and engage the shooter. We even did some exercises inside the high school during the summer when the kids weren't in classes. This was all post-Columbine and doctrine was changed.
It certainly seems that the current crop of cops either lack the intestinal fortitude to confront active shooters (this isn't the only recent failure: the Pulse Night Club jihadi wasn't engaged either) or have forgotten the lessons learned.

A few years ago they tried to get us to change our history books about "comfort women". They wanted us to scrub the reference or minimize it. We refused. But they also went to other countries, and I'm guessing were successful in some.
Japan has also had a resurgence in patriotism, and have, or are, changing their own history books...minimizing some of their atrocious behavior...at least last I looked into it. There was a brush up about comfort women recently too...brought about by the Olympics.

1) Some of the best Indian Army troops were Islamic. They needed all hands on deck in the Imphal / Burma campaign.
2) The UK had few garrison troops in Islamic countries, and needed them to secure LOC, Lend-lease roads, and oil fields used by the RN.

From what I understand, the Japanese do not teach about their wartime atrocities in their schools to this day. They were victims in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
On the other hand, the Germans are practically masochistic about their war guilt, to the point where they think they deserve to be conquered by the Muslims.

Not so sure the situation in Japan was that much worse (and there was much better/more extensive info on German depradations).

Because they thought the Chinese were subhumans. They called them marutas which translates as logs. I don't remember what logs meant in reference to Chinese, but that they thought they were scum to be tortured and murdered for the benefit of the Emperor.

This played out on the college campus mass shooting in our little Oregon town in 2015. The killer was engaged by the first two officers who arrived on the scene. The shooter saw them and after being fired upon, put a bullet thru his own head. Fucker...
