Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Toxic Masculinity: 88-Year-Old British Korean Vet Comes to Aid of Woman Accosted by Knife-Wielding ThugsApparently they thought they would just flash the knives and there wouldn't be a fight at all. They were wrong. This guy, at four times their age but also four times their Testosterone levels, decided they would have to fight after all. They made the classic mistake: They brought knives to a real-life fist-fight.The punks fled. The hero went to the hospital to have his wounds cleaned. "Fear is not part of my vocabulary," he later said. I'm as taken with this guy and his uncommon valor as the liberal Republican cucks are with Jake Tapper and his courageous retweeting of the stupid things they write on Twitter (while never actually bringing up any of these points on his actual tv show). I watched a documentary on Netflix about the commandos, Britain's real ones during WW2. They were these ordinary old duffers, just regular old British guys in comfortable clothes. But they were terrifying. They talked calmly and matter of factly about how to best kill a guard so he's silent, how to make bombs, etc. They have all this horrendous training on being deadly and awful locked away.
You never know. That's one thing I love about L'Amour's books. He reminds readers regularly that the raid on Northfield was shot to pieces even though it seemed like a sleepy boring town full of nobodies, because there were military vets and people who'd fought off Indian invasions and served in wars overseas, men who were death dealers. Just because they're dressed like civilians doesn't mean they're weak. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 22, 2018 06:52 PM (39g3+) 227

I'm guessing that the shooting had stopped by the time that anyone with a weapon arrived, and that the perpetrator had already ditched his gear and melted into the crowd. That doesn't give cover to those who might have gone inside at that point, but perhaps their standing orders were to secure the exits and await backup. We'll have to wait for the alibis to begin, I think, before we project some kind of movie-view onto a real potential-gunfight situation.

Because MacArthur lobbied for the Japs, they didn't have an unconditional surrender.
They may have said it was but it wasn't. They got to keep their Emperor their state religion Shinto and their Armed forces were not disarmed and broken apart. At least not until later. Reparations were also less and so were the War Crime Trials. Many top Japanese during the war maintained their position and wealth up till their deaths only recently. It was the only way to keep the suicidal Japanese from making taking the Islands a blood bath. We did not have anymore Nukes and a long lead time to build more. guessing that the shooting had stopped by the time that anyone with a weapon arrived, and that the perpetrator had already ditched his gear and melted into the crowd. That doesn't give cover to those who might have gone inside at that point, but perhaps their standing orders were to secure the exits and await backup. We'll have to wait for the alibis to begin, I think, before we project some kind of movie-view onto a real potential-gunfight situation.
Posted by: goon at February not likely their standing orders were to stay outside. the slow methodical method was tossed when the tactics of the swat team at columbine were reviewed. since the sheriff either fired him or put him on suspension without pay and said the deputy should have gone in an killed the shooter he probably disagrees as well. "When asked what Peterson should have done, Israel said the deputy should have 'went in, addressed the killer, killed the killer.'" So, was he armed to do that? Or is policy to keep his gun locked up in an office and get it out after violence has begun? We can speculate all we want (and the SRO's leaving the job suggests he was armed but not engaged) but we still don't know for certain the explicit details. Maybe his job was to actually call in backup before engaging single-handedly. We don't know the local enforcement policies/procedures and we don't have enough facts. Actually the cuddling up with the Germans took longer as compared to Japan.
First the Allies in their sectors had to stomp out the Werewolves who were dead-end Nazis and SS. The Final Solution and Nuremberg. But the USSR accelerated the pace with the attempted Berlin Blockade. Whereas in the Pacific, the Emperor said surrender. They bowed and followed his orders. So MacArthur did not have to worry about an insurgency problem. Just the threat of Soviet Russia just across the sea casting covetous eyes on dividing Japan. So Japan was let to slide and many Class A and B war criminals did some time but few were executed. Posted by: Anna Puma (HQCaR) at February 22, 2018 07:06 PM (z13UD) 342

Japanese Bushido culture was the main cause of the mistreatment of prisoners. Bushido taught that an honorable soldier would gladly fight to the death, so they considered anyone who surrendered to be cowards and beneath contempt, the lowest of the low. They considered them to be deserters from their own cause, thus deserving of execution or any other punishment they could devise.
Remember that well into relatively recent historical times, a Samurai had full authority to behead, on the spot, anyone of lower status than himself who dared to insult him, not to mention do any greater injury to his goods or his person. To be a peasant in Japan before the 19th century was to be little better than a type of two legged cattle. Posted by: Tom Servo at February 22, 2018 07:09 PM (k1TUh) 354

I wrestled for a very long time about traveling to Japan a few years ago.
My uncle was killed on Saipan and I have very strong feelings obviously about that nation and its people, especially of that generation. Ironically, my dad, who was an artist did not harbor any ill will towards Nisei Japanese or those too young to have been alive at that time, and he greatly admired and imitated Japanese styles in his artwork. not likely their standing orders were to stay outside. the slow methodical method was tossed when the tactics of the swat team at columbine were reviewed.
since the sheriff either fired him or put him on suspension without pay and said the deputy should have gone in an killed the shooter he probably disagrees as well. Posted by: --- .-. /-. --- - at February 22, 2018 07:01 PM (MTjB1) I can absolutely confirm that the agency I belonged to had a firm policy that first officer on the scene of an active shooter was to go in and engage the shooter. We even did some exercises inside the high school during the summer when the kids weren't in classes. This was all post-Columbine and doctrine was changed. It certainly seems that the current crop of cops either lack the intestinal fortitude to confront active shooters (this isn't the only recent failure: the Pulse Night Club jihadi wasn't engaged either) or have forgotten the lessons learned. The saddest thing about Germany is up until 1871, it had been one of the most relaxed and easy to live places in Europe. France, England, and Austria were all building big central governments and instituting centralized control step by step, but Germany remained as hundreds of little principalities, each with their local nobility but not much real power. Except Prussia - and then came Bismark, and the first Wilhelm, and the 2nd Wilhelm, and Bismark realized how easy it would be to gobble up all of these harmless little states and forge them into a centralized machine of his own design.
Most of the germans who came to America, including the part of my family that was German, came here because they wanted no part of what Bismark and Wilhelm were turning the place into. And Hitler really just took Bismark's expansionary drive and put it on steroids. Well I'll have to actually go check, but as we did this same discussion the other night, I believe that Groves had told Marshall he could produce 3 bombs/month starting in October. Which was not going to be responsive to the desire to have up to 15 of them for use in Olympic, on Kyushu.
And the emperor gave the Big Six the basic order to end things in the conference following Hiroshima, even though their "report" was that the new bomb was nothing they couldn't handle (they already were talking about "countermeasures" for atomic attacks) - so jake was right about that - there was no hint of "surrender" from the military (which was the only political force left). And the % of known German war criminals who face serious punishment was actually shockingly small, over time. If you consider the limited, then belated, prosecutions - and the commuted sentences - there was not much of an accounting vs. the reality of what had happened. Not so sure the situation in Japan was that much worse (and there was much better/more extensive info on German depradations). Posted by: rhomboid at February 22, 2018 07:25 PM (QDnY+) 438

The other thing about the Japs that really gets me angry, at least the Germans acknowledged and apologized (sincerely or not) for what they did and caused. The Japs refuse to do so to this day. Even in their Diet (parliament), there are hardcore militarists who go apeshit when the subject is broached. Posted by: J.J. Sefton at February 22, 2018 07:15 PM (VM6ev) From what I understand, the Japanese do not teach about their wartime atrocities in their schools to this day. They were victims in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On the other hand, the Germans are practically masochistic about their war guilt, to the point where they think they deserve to be conquered by the Muslims. There should be a happy medium somewhere. If I'm walking down the street in a liberal enclave (NYC, LA, Chicago, et al) and see a woman getting sexually assaulted by Muslims, what is my moral imperative? There is a 4 in 5 chance in most of those areas, that the victim: A) Lobbied to bring the Muslims here B) Voted to strip herself and me of a firearm to protect her C) Is a feminist that proclaims women are as physically capable as men D) Denounced anyone that opposed her on A, B or C as toxic in masculinity. Posted by: Insomniac at February 22, 2018 07:22 PM (NWiLs) Because they thought the Chinese were subhumans. They called them marutas which translates as logs. I don't remember what logs meant in reference to Chinese, but that they thought they were scum to be tortured and murdered for the benefit of the Emperor. They used the unit to come up with a weaponized form of typhus that they could use to pacify other parts of China. They came up with diseased fleas in clay pots which they dropped on civilians. It worked, too. Killed tens of thousands of Chinese if I remember correctly. They were doing other shit there though, like freezing limbs and then breaking them with sticks. They put people into pressure chambers too to see what would happen. Then there were the rapes and the vivisections on living people (without anesthesia). Unit 731 (or at least its chief, Ishii) was handled pretty much as described by someone above - we thought we needed his information, so the deal was to let them disappear quietly in return. Many such deals were made in Germany, of course - just about impossible for the key German engineers and scientists of greatest value to have not been tainted by the slave labor situation (as was von Braun). And the Soviet intel challenge meant long-lasting new careers for unsavory folks we reasonably deemed vital as the Cold War spooled up.
Japan didn't ignore the war or their role as completely as some are saying. The big response was to adopt a national pacifist philosophy - made much easier by circumstances, where we basically handled their security. Posted by: rhomboid at February 22, 2018 07:36 PM (QDnY+) 497

And their horrific ideology is ascendant. Posted by: AnonyBotymousDrivel at February 22, 2018 07:36 PM (H8S+R) ....
