Trump Holds Another Discussion: Arm "Adept" Individuals and Pay Them a Bonus; "Harden" These Targets and These "Cowards" Won't Attack Them

He also noted that some Democrat, who he didn't name, he said, so as not to embarrass him, was talking about getting rid of all the guns while simultaneously surrounded by three men armed with guns.

He also spoke about Sanctuary States like California and deporting MS-13.

Shep Smith is already having palpitations and pre-stroke symptoms.

Posted by: joncelli, going phalangist at February 22, 2018 01:30 PM (RD7QR)

30 Here's the honest truth:

Trump is wrong. And the gun-grabbers are wrong too.

Trying to ban guns in the US would be physically impossible, and if you prevent the legal acquisition of guns, all you'd be left with is criminals getting them illegally, which they would do in massive numbers. So we'd be at the mercy of criminals.

But conversely. having some fat security guard sitting ion a folding chair with a gun on his hip at one end of the school would in no way prevent a gunman from shooting up the place if he wanted to.

Yes, if one went to extremes, one could make every school in the country as secure as the boarding area of airports, but there's no way we're going to go to all that trouble. And without that level of security, you really can't "stop" a shooter. And even if you stopped him on school grounds, he could instead just shoot the kids on the sidewalk in front of the school as the emerged at the end of the day.

We will just have to accept that some things just exist (like insanity and crime), and that's part of the human condition.

Whether it is a good idea or not, target hardening sounds reasonable and achievable. Instead of letting the Left get him down deep into the swamp of gun control and things that go up and the number of rounds in a magazine, etc. Trump proposed something that many people would see as reasonable and which the left will oppose because they want the issue to politick on, not have solutions proposed.

For some reason, gun ban advocates seem to think only bad guys can shoot. Any good guy with a gun turns into a retarded spaz shooting everything in sight, but the bad guys always will drop them with a perfect head shot instantly.

Considering the national organizer of BAMN, Yvette Felarca, is a middle school teacher, maybe the possibility of armed teachers would force schools to be a little bit more selective in their hiring? Not a bad thing.

As others have asked: if you evaluate whether or not a particular teacher could be trusted if armed, then maybe they shouldn't be trusted with the kids?

Right. And there's also the question of how do you want to live?

I resent having to take my shoes off at the airport because some asshole lit his sneaker on fire fifteen years ago.

I don't want to live that way.

I taught a class at a Hebrew high school which had remote buzzer entry and all the security. I understand why that would be a target. My kids went to a private school a half mile down the same road with an open campus. It was nicer.

The ugly truth is that we expect bad things to happen in bad places and not in nice places. Everyone here has made the Chicago and Baltimore comments. Of course we expect shitholes to shithole. We get freaked out when it happens in nice places.

But if we turn nice places into fortresses they're not nice places anymore.

273 also, it's not about actually arming teachers, just like you don't need 100% of citizens carrying guns for guns to work as a deterrent.

Just the possibility that there are multiple armed people on a school campus would be enough to make school campuses no longer soft targets.

But passing laws saying guns cant be near schools, you are damned near guaranteeing a potential spree shooter a decent body count before theres any real threat to stopping him.

And for many/most of these sickos, body count is what they are going for.

The one guaranteed soft target in every town in American is a K-12 school, which is why you see so many spree shooters (though far from all of them, obviously) shooting up schools.

If schools were no longer so obviously soft targets, we'd probably see less of that.

But whatever, let's just jump right to the logical step of "we need to ban and confiscate almost all firearms in this country"

No one can oblige anyone else to take a bullet for them.

For example, if the secret service agent who is supposed to take a bullet for the president decides to step out of the way instead, there is nothing anyone can do other than fire the guy and hire someone else.

SCOTUS has repeatedly ruled that cops, for example, have no duty to protect to anyone or even respond to 911 calls if they don't want to.

You cannot enforce a law like that that forces someone to put themselves in grave danger.

Yes. 100,000 schools, 50 Million plus students in public schools. The odds of getting shot in school are infinitesimal. More kids are killed on bikes riding to school. Its not about the safety of our children for the left. Not one bit.

I think it's a matter of how you count these types of things and how the 24/7 cable news media presents these kinds of things.

I don't think that's universally true at all. Might have been true at Columbine, but...

What conflicts did Adam Lanza had with the 6 year olds he killed?

And this kid in FL... he was older than most of the kids in the school he shot. Why do we assume the victims were anything other than random?

Or the kid at VA Tech... IIRC, none of the victims were known to the shooter, nor had anyone at VA Tech bullied him or anything that we know of.

358 Yeah, but no one's ever going to address the big "why" question. It's cultural, and would require both conservatives and liberals alike to admit that there's a problem with today's social arrangements and that past arrangements were better in some respects.

Exactly, I've had this discussion with lefties before. They agree eventually that something bad has happened and we need to address that, but when you get to what it was and what it would take, they all turn into either that woman interviewing Jordan Peterson, or screaming "NO NO NO NO" with their hands over their ears and eyes.

We know what the problem is, we just don't want to do anything about it. In essence, mass shootings are a price people are willing to pay to keep their lifestyle. Eggs, omelette.

::shrug:: Maybe.

I suspect that two things drove them to pick those targets over everything else:
a) known soft targets
b) media impressions and seeing what previous spree shooters did.

But I don't think we should assume that there's something unique about schools that cause people to pick up a gun and start shooting.

Remember the big "going postal" scare in the '80s? Seemed like a post office was being shot up weekly? Everyone was trying to explain why...

Not anymore. Public schools in MA have trained teachers to coordinate communications to track where the shooter is/is headed, and students trained to fight back if they can't evacuate - use whatever is handy, use overwhelming force (shooter can't stop an entire class all charging him in unison). There are people who have evaluated schools shootings and devised new approaches. Seems this Cruz kid used some of that to his advantage by setting off the fire alarm and shooting as kids fed, so no approach is perfect.

Change in fashion. These same sorts of spree shootings used to be restricted to postal workers and post offices.

I don't know what psych drugs the postal workers were on but I would guess they were not much different than the ones these school shooters are on. And the school shooters, in their deranged minds, know that school shootings are the fashion for exactly their type of nutjobs.

It's not unlike the summers of carjackings that we had some time ago. All of a sudden, the dirtbags in the inner cities got it into their heads that carjackings were the fashionable thing to do ... and so they did them, every single day.

392 California is a hydra. Cut off southern Cali and you still have San Fran and Sacramento to deal with, and they'll both be three times as bad as before. Walling off all the coastal cities basically is the only option.

How is that secession bill going, anyone know? It's a shot in the dark but I still wish them well.

Personally, I am beginning to think one of the Krazy Kims, if he targets his nukes right, could politically cauterize the state's politically festering and gangrenous cities.

394 Its funny to remember, that after the Miracle of Benghazi got Sparky re-elected Sparky got it into his head to do something about Newtown school shooting and it was his own party that told him to shut up and sit down and do nothing about guns. They had already lost the House and nearly lost the Senate and knew damned well going after guns was a death sentence. And yet, now they think its a winning strategy. Fuck, these folks are out there.

Uh it was postal workers going postal.

I'm saying it was like a HUGE DEAL in the '80s/'90s but now the media never uses the term and experts dont try to "understand the epidemic" etc.

It's still happens -- just looked it up, 2 shootings at post offices in 2016.

It's just not the moral scare of the day.

My point is this: nutjobs abound. We can either make it harder for them to kill people or easier, but either way, nutjobs are going to nut.

Hey!

If any place should break off it should be northern California, not southern.

399 387 WHY are people shooting up schools now, what has changed?

Change in fashion. These same sorts of spree shootings used to be restricted to postal workers and post offices.

I don't know what psych drugs the postal workers were on but I would guess they were not much different than the ones these school shooters are on. And the school shooters, in their deranged minds, know that school shootings are the fashion for exactly their type of nutjobs.

It's not unlike the summers of carjackings that we had some time ago. All of a sudden, the dirtbags in the inner cities got it into their heads that carjackings were the fashionable thing to do ... and so they did them, every single day.

By the way, has anyone else here read the late and unlamented Elliot Rodger's manifesto 'My Twisted World"? It gave me pause, because I can see that sort of thing happening again and again without armed school guards and better mental health approaches.

While Elliot Rodger was clearly a spoiled brat and it is best that this bad seed and piece of human waste is pushing up daisies, part of me DID feel pity for a young man who did not enjoy his school years either, who was a product of Hollyleft parents and cultural madness, who never learned how the real world worked, and whose parents used him as a pawn in their fights with each other.

Substitute northern and southern, for "Coastal" and "Interior". Except for San Diego and Orange counties, the Leftist madness is confined to mostly coastal enclaves.

When I think about my life over the last week, I spent a lot of time around armed guards:
--County building (land title issue, armed people there)
--Secretary of State building (incorporation, armed people there too)
--Federal building (tax matters, armed people there too)
--Art Museum (armed guard there)
--My megamall (armed guards there too)
--My bank (armed guard there too)

not counting any local police and sherrifs I passed.

If protecting government matters, money, artworks and major shopping centers justifies armed guards, why not schoolchildren?

405 "classrooms in IL must have two exits. Our Lady of the Angels fire."

Does that include windows? I assume it does, because I attended K-12 in IL in the 70s, in schools built well after the OLA fire, and there was only one door in or out of every classroom I was ever in. I also rarely if ever saw more than one door in any classroom my daughter was in (she graduated HS just last year).

407 I suppose pointing out that every mass school shooter that I can think of from the Columbine morons up to today ALL either fled, committed suicide or gave up once bullets started going their way.

Hardening our schools is a good idea and not because of someone with mental health but for the pissant evildoer who proven cowards time and time again.

409 More Keystone Cops stuff ...

Police officers responding to last week's school shooting in Parkland, Florida reportedly thought they were tracking Nikolas Cruz live on surveillance video -- but then realized the footage was delayed by nearly 30 minutes, tossing roadblocks into the frantic efforts to capture the 19-year-old shooting suspect.

The security cameras in Broward School District had a 20-minute delay, which left responding officers in the dark when attempting to look for Cruz in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 13, the Sun Sentinel reported. Cruz was captured in Coral Springs, located about a mile away, more than an hour after the start of the shooting."[Video images were] delayed 20 minutes and nobody told us that," Coral Springs Police Chief Tony Pustizzi told the Sun Sentinel.
