#VeryFakeNewsCNN: Chris Cuomo Again Spreads a False Twitter Story About Guns

You'd think CNN propagandists would finally start to fact-check their own claims so they wouldn't be hit with this credibility-destroying stuff every single week.

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo retweeted a fake story about a student who claimed to be able to buy an AR-15 in "5 minutes," and then doubled down when he was called out.
Cuomo retweeted the article, "I Was Able To Buy An AR-15 In 5 Minutes," which shows a 20-year-old student holding an AR-15 and claiming to have purchased it without going through a background check.
However, the student admitted in the article that he never actually finished filing out the paperwork -- which would initiate the background check -- to buy the AR-15. Instead, he shopped around for a bit, took photos with some guns, and asked for the advice of the shop owners.
"After he walked me through the paperwork, all five pages of it, I told him I changed my mind and wanted to think more before I bought an AR-15," the student wrote. "He told me it wasn’t a problem and listed the store hours if I wanted to come back. I then said thank you and walked back to my car."
People started pointing out that the kid never actually bought the AR-15, but Cuomo doubled down, stating, "Isn't the point that the kid's age and lack of ID wasn"t a deterrent?"

By the way, underage people are permitted to touch six-packs of beer in the fridge at 7-Eleven. They're just not allowed to buy them. See, the credentials check (in this case, just for age) happens at point of sale, not upon entry into the shop.

It also shows that if you are willing to buy a used gun, you can buy one from a private party without a background check in most states. There are a few states where you can't do that because they require a background check even for private sales.

But, the point being, if you are a criminal or a nutball, you can buy a gun if you are careful enough to go about it the "right" way.

Factually, it seems accurate, in a very narrow way. I don't want laws changed to close the "gun show loophole". But, I disagree with calling something inaccurate when it is accurate. By all means, point out how you think people might interpret it incorrectly.

The real outrage in the graphic is all those states you can vote in without ID.

The problem is that there really are some states that require no ID to vote and the scenario about guns that you describe is rare. It's lying by jamming together a lie--all states require ID-- and a rarity -- private sales that don't require background checks. This juxtaposition is then fobbed off without explanation, leaving people with the impression that it is true in all cases rather than a tiny intersection of the Venn diagram.

He huffs a bit and then doubles down on stupid by saying to his friend, who has a sex offender ID card, that he'll get his daddy to buy it. After double checking myself with management I had to break it to him that I could not sell his father the rifle because that would be a stray purchase and I would go to jail. Luckily he went away without causing a greater scene.

So the election was between his widow, who had no real political credentials, and the former Dem rep, who had only narrowly lost in to the man who killed himself.

Not a surprise the way it turned out.
