Sharyl Atkisson: The #FakeNews Moral Panic Was Foisted Upon Us by Google Plutocrat and Hillary Zealot Eric Schmidt

See Deb Heine at PJ Media for the full discussion.

BTW, Eric Schmidt has now stepped down as head of Google (Alphabet).

But he's still a tech plutocrat.

"What if the whole anti-fake news campaign was an effort on somebody's part to keep us from seeing or believing certain websites and stories by controversializing them or labeling them as fake news?" Attkisson posited.

Digging deeper, she discovered that Google was one of the big donors behind First Draft's [the first organization pounding the #FakeNews drumbeat] "fake news" messaging. Google's parent company, Alphabet, was run by Eric Schmidt, who happened to be a huge Hillary Clinton supporter.

Schmidt "offered himself up as a campaign adviser and became a top multi-million donor to it. His company funded First Draft around the start of the election cycle," Attkisson said. "Not surprisingly, Hillary was soon to jump aboard the anti-fake news train and her surrogate David Brock of Media Matters privately told donors he was the one who convinced Facebook to join the effort."

Attkisson declared that "the whole thing smacked of the roll-out of a propaganda campaign."

...

She described two warning signs to look out for.

* When the media tries to shape or censor facts and opinions rather than report them.

* When so many in the media are reporting the same stories, promulgating the same narratives, relying on the same sources -- even using the same phrases.

Attkisson pointed out that there's an infinite number of ways to report stories, so "when everybody's on the same page, it might the result of an organized campaign."

I can think of dozens of issues on which the media all use the same verbiage and all start chattering about at the same time.

I even remember when Barky first slimed into office and it came out only a few months later that George Stephalopadopalous and Carville, the lizard man, were having daily meetings with David Axelrod (of the White House) to strategize the day's news. Every single day.

It seemed like a major story that would repulse any normal American and might even get these guys hauled off in orange jumpsuits ... and then, like the wind, it was gone.

47 You want to discuss collusion? Look no further than the media who has colluded against the American people.

This is not just a campaign of disinformation, it is a deliberate effort to undermine the country and turn it into a political oligarchy. It is a subversive effort to weaponize government against the people it was meant to serve, all to enforce some wayward groups failed political ideals.

They dont want to govern. They want to rule.

I for one mostly blame the media. They are not truthful, honest, independent or impartial. They are willing quislings in the entire effort without whom the entire subversion would not work.

They should be the first to swing from a gallows built by the rightfully angry mob.

158 Schmidt was the one who approached the Hillary campaign with the proposal to use big data techniques and analyzing internet traffic to de-anonamize people and target them for individualized ads.

It wasn't to target an online profile in a comments section but to just use normal internet traffic to pin down a person's identity and then serve them ads where ever they went on the internet. It wasn't just micro targeting but building profiles of people and serving ads created just for them.

Can't imagine that the corrupt technocrats at Goolge or the DNC would abuse the ability to do that.

176 Sharyl Atkisson is a class act. And, she's a pitbull. I think some people are going to be very sorry they decided to compromise her computer(s) at work and home.

She just filed a civil suit relative to that. Eventually, she says, she hopes to see the whole issue turn into a criminal case. I put more faith in her end results than those of our House Intelligence Committee. Atkisson never backs down.

Did you get a little gold ?
What did you bring me my dear friends ?
To keep the Russian Story from goin' cold ?
What did you bring me ... to keep the story from goin' cold ?

I couldn't get no silver ... I couldn't get no gold
Couldn't find no pissy assed whore
To keep the story from goin' cold
Newsman ... Newsman ... hold it a little while
I think I see Fusion GPS a' comin'
Riding a many mile.
Did you bring some silver - maybe a little gold ?
What did you bring me my brother - to keep this story from goin' cold ?

Brother, I brought some silver - I brought a little gold
But I couldn't find a God Damn Thing
To keep that Old Bitch from faintin' cold
Not a damn thing ... to keep that Old Bitch from faintin' cold

Newsman ... Newsman ... turn your head awhile
It think I see my Huma comin' ... ridin' many a mile
Sista' ... I implore you ... take him by the hand
Take him to some shady bower
Save me from the wrath of this man
Save me ... save me from the wrath of this man
Please take him ... save me from the wrath of this man

Newsman ... Newsman ... upon your face a smile
Please tell me that I'm free to ride
Ride a many a mile
Oh Yes ... you got a fine Huma
She warmed my blood from cold
She warmed my blood to boilin' hot
To keep you from my Old Miss pole
Your brother brought me silver
Your sister warmed my soul
But they don't call me Action Shep for nothin'
So get to swingin' from the Gallows Pole
Get to Swingin' ... swingin' on the gallows pole

333 Les Kinetic, I've called it the "idiot marinade" for a few years now - and yes, the LIVs soak in it. But it's worse. Everyone, with few exceptions, soaks it in it - or, more insidiously, has its premises seep into their framework for evaluating "news".

One can find it here, right at the HQ, on several issues. That's how fundamental this is.

And nothing against Atkisson, she's excellent, an actual real reporter, and smarter than most of them as well. But obviously the fundamental distortion of most news dates back a long, long way. If she's talking only of the last campaign, and the latest incarnation - Goolag-based shenanigans - then OK.

Those with a serious interest in the subject might look for Big Story by Peter Braestrup, about the press's distortion of the Tet offensive, 50 years ago (s**t! FIFTY years ago). Happened to be around Braestrup when he was writing that book, though I wasn't working for him.

And I've been eye witness to some mind-blowing media distortion, up close.

348 Speaking of establishment fake news campaigns, I just checked out the Washington Post's take on the absurd
"13 Russians Indicted for Election Interference" thing. First stort that came up was a prim "analysis" by some pencil-neck regardung the "lies being told" about it by the Trump administration. The comments on the article were 99% rabid agreement that this is the beginning of the end for Trump. It occurred to me of course that the comments are part of the op, and that contrary views are being mercilessly culled without notice-- I do recall a tremendous amount of skeptical mockery in the comments in the recent past -- there is a discontinuity between then and now.

Someone who didn't have other sources of news could be quite taken in, and I suppose that's what they're shooting for -- maintain and salvage readership that can still be maintained and salvaged. Whatever subset that is.

352 Lots of routine cracks about homage to D-Lamp, but I think that misses the point, completely.

He got booted for calling for violence against the media, IIRC. Which besides being wrong, would be pointless and achieve nothing. Because it wouldn't last, or be widespread or sustained, or do anything to de-program the masses.

What has been missing, forever, is a GOP (and thousands of years ago, even the sane Dems) and other public/political class able and willing to reject their stupid distortions and premises. Every time. Every interview. Every answer, every interaction, however insignificant they seem.

From extensive direct experience, as well as merely observing, I attribute the almost universal failure to do this to 1) laziness 2) lack of verbal intelligence and knowledge 3) lack of interest, for varying reasons but including lack of disagreement with ridiculous media false framework.

Worst time ever, gotta keep this general, but a very high profile US official in the middle of the biggest story on the planet at the time, with a captive/vulnerable media crew from a prominent European outlet. He agreed to dispute, not stipulate, the key false premises they were sure to rely on (they did) - he didn't. He's all compliant and clear - then 2 minutes later, just folds. Last time I tried, with him. Hopeless, and representative.
