Media Finds School Shooter's Politics Highly Relevant, So, Unfortunately, You Know What That Means

Steve Scalise's assassin's politics? Not important. In fact, Steve Scalise's assassin wasn't even important himself -- the media stopped most reporting on it after a mere 4 days, and stopped all reporting on it after 12.

Rand Paul's assailant's politics? Not important. The media pushed the attacker's lawyer's claim that this was a personal dispute over grass clippings and then, when that was proven a lie, neatly forgot to report on the rabid left-wing attacker's motives.

But now motives in otherwise inexplicable violence are important again -- so that must mean the shooter was right-wing (or could be claimed to be right-wing).

Cruz exhibited right-wing politics in high school as well, former classmates told The Daily Beast. Two said he wore a "Make America Great Again" hat in school. An Instagram account associated with Cruz features a photo of him wearing the hat and a red, white, and blue bandana over his face.

"I saw him wear a Trump hat," said Sebastian Gonzalez, a 19-year-old who graduated from the high school in 2017. "At our school you were sort of with Trump or really against Trump."

Ocean Parodie, a 17-year-old junior said that he also saw Cruz wearing the hat.

"He always wore like really patriotic shirts that seemed really extreme, like hating on the Islamic religion. For example, he would say things such as like, he would degrade islamic people as terrorists and bombers. I've seen him wear a Trump hat," Parodie said.

YouTube comments by a person of the same name spewed commentary about Antifa activists and Muslimsppshared targets of white supremacists. "Iam going to kill them in the future," one comment on a video titled "Antifa Gun Club!" read. "Im going watch them sheep fall fuck antifa i wish to kill as many as i can," another comment about six months ago read.

Meanwhile, the FBI was warned about this guy, who left a comment on a YouTube video stating flat-out he intended to be a mass school shooter, but the FBI says it failed to "fully identify" the commenter.

I can see why the FBI couldn't "fully identify" the commenter -- all he did was leave the comment under his actual legal name, along with the uncommon spelling of his first name.

It's hard to "fully identify" someone based on their full legal name and their YouTube login and their IP and all that, I guess.

Of course, the homoerotic authority-worshippers of the right, like David French, are squealing that it's just terrible to question the FBI about this grotesque and catastrophic failure.

7 I handle workplace violence response at my job. We had a person make an anonymous terroristic threat against our business and we identified the guy within an hour.

I called the State Police, youtube and googled the hell out of the information we gleaned.

We identified IP addresses and other frames of references.

Had him identified in one hour and arrested by lunch.

The FBI could have found this guy.

How many times does the FBI have to demonstrate incompetence?

They seemed to do this after (almost?) every terror attack during Obama's 8 years. If it wasn't an instance when they had missed the signs, or not adequately followed up reports, they would still manage to drop the ball by declaring "Not terrorism!" within an hour after first reports of the attack, before all names were even released.

They have lost their way, their purpose, and that can't be fixed if people like French insist they are above criticism.

55 This clown was in the mental health system for some time as he got into trouble at school. Mental health professionals arrogantly assume that they can fully diagnose clowns like this shooter from interviews and testing alone. They assume that they are much smarter than their wacko patients.

Not true. A lot of these shooters are smart enough to feed the psychs all the right answers to keep from being institutionalized. The mental health professionals should have monitored and reviewed his social media posts and evaluated them for congruity with their diagnoses. Had they done this, they might have taken far different actions.

Social media cuts both ways, but our mental health professionals don't seem to realize this. Mental health professionals are not very professional, or competent.

60 (NRA) Politics stretched alllll the way to Russia!

Media Matters alum Eric Boehlert spent Wednesday evening probing whether there is a connection between the mass shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the National Rifle Association (NRA), and Russia's Kremlin.

Boehlert, who has moved on from the David Brock-led Media Matters to the David Brock-led Shareblue media, took up the topic after failed Missouri Senate candidate Jason Kinder tweeted: "The leadership of [the NRA] has an agenda and it ain't got a damn thing to do with gun rights. It's 100% about gun sales. This Republican Congress is trading the lives of children for campaign contributions."

Boehlert then responded by asking, "How much $$$$$ did [the NRA] accept from Russia in 2016?"

"[A]nd why would Russia be so interested in seeing America drowning in guns?" he continued.

Like Loughner, plenty of warning, and plenty of unused and disregarded opportunities to legally disarm him. Law enforcement has egg on its face, so blame the equipment used, and not the multiple failures to use existing means to stop the little retard in his tracks. In this case establishment media and the cops are on the same page as far as the spin.

65 Its not a good idea to analyze the politics of these types of acts on either side of the aisle. Violent and deranged people can grab onto anything to justify their actions.

But here's the big difference. Shooting up a school full of kids has ZERO political objective for a "right-winger."

Shooting up a bunch of Republicans like Scalise and beating the hell out of Rand Paul DOES have a distinct political objective.

Excerpt:
In these moments of heartache and
darkness, we hold on to God's word in scripture: "I have heard your
prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you."We trust in that promise, and we hold fast to our fellow Americans in their time of sorrow.I
want to speak now directly to America's children, especially those who
feel lost, alone, confused or even scared: I want you to know that you
are never alone and you never will be. You have people who care about
you, who love you, and who will do anything at all to protect you. If
you need help, turn to a teacher, a family member, a local police
officer, or a faith leader. Answer hate with love; answer cruelty with
kindness.

119 Everything points to some serious mental health issues with this kid. Losing his dad ten years before was probably tough. Then losing his mom so quickly? With no place to land? He broke. And he took it out on others. I'm not excusing his behavior at all, it's horrific. But I do think we need to reassess how communities deal with mental illness, because that seems to be the root of all these horrific school crimes, as opposed to ideology, which was what drove the Scalise shooting, and very likely the Las Vegas shooting.

The current protocol is to shove different medications down kids, and have them see a psychiatrist for 15 minutes once a month. That is not addressing mental illness, it's a crappy generic bandaid that doesn't stick to a gaping wound. Maybe look into working with that problem, before blaming politics for crimes.

I agree, but the problem is with the Supreme Court. Not even legislation can fix the problem, because (unless they've had a change of heart about the original decision) they'd presumably just rule any such legislation as un-Constitutional.

I've been advocating here for a loosening of the stringent standard for involuntary institutionalization, but I too worry about that being weaponized by the Left. I could see them bundling Rush off to the nut barn given half a chance, modeling themselves on their Soviet idols.

This used to be the province of local cops. The normal MO is for a couple of cops to visit him and talk to him about his statements and his arsenal. Basically do a meet and greet and see how creepy and deranged the kid is. Normally, the result is the kid was just showing off for his friends and the sight of cops made his balls recede into his groin. If not, then the cops have enough information to seek a search warrant for weapons and ammunition and explosives. FBI doesn't have time for this, the local city police do.

182 The bottom line is that you can track the increase in these kind of events with the collapse of any basic societal understanding of right and wrong.

When you deliberately obliterate every basic societal structure and influence on morality and teach everyone that right and wrong, good and evil are merely relative and anyone can make their own moral narrative, is it any surprise you get a rise of evil?

Morality is absolute and objective: that is, something that is wrong is simply wrong, not just an opinion. And it comes from outside us, not inside us; we do not determine good and evil based on our whims. Nazi Germany and school shootings are always wrong, and evil, even if the people involved thought they were doing the right thing.

The left has successfully destroyed the basic skeleton of America that kept it upright and structured without anything to take its place. Its one thing to remove a basic moral code and system of traditional behavior and ethics, its another to simply leave things that way instead of coming up with an alternative.

The left does have their code of ethics: abortion, oppression vs tyranny, racism etc. It just can't serve as a skeleton for a society to build around because it changes almost daily. What was once good becomes evil within months. Progressivism by its very definition and meaning has to keep changing -- "progressing" or it ceases to have meaning and power. Which means it provides no structure or strength whatsoever.

Its... sinking sand.

It's not an unfounded fear, but if mass amounts of people are being institutionalized against their will over political disagreements, I would say we're already in the midst of a hot war and bullets are flying.

I personally am willing to have civil rights loosened on people being institutionalized as long as there are some protocols being followed and see what happens.

I just know ,for instance I have a distant relative that is straight up crazy, needs to be institutionalized, is a danger to herself and other people, has been arrested multiple times, and nobody can do anything about it.

I think a few members of the Horde have posted some very common sense approaches to this the last few days. 2 in particular that I've seen. Of course, they are too level headed to ever be discussed in the news, even if someone saw them.

If I knew a way to raise them to a level of awareness I would. Someone else here probably does. E-mail them to a good Senator or Congressman. And a good news media outlet.
Do it anonymously if you don't want your name attached...it's quite easy. Call the office first and tell them to watch for it.

None of them will come up with it on their own. You'd be surprised how open they are to good ideas if you choose the right person. And the more that send it the better.

I saw my fax make the Capitol Steps a few years ago. After I called the office and they asked me to send it. The guy has since retired, or I'd do it again.

Ya wonder how they left is successful? They do this stuff I'm mentioning. No qualms. Positive the Right doesn't...if we did we wouldn't be in the pickle we are now with illegal immigration and so many other things.

Me too. I'd like to see the Supremes revisit their O'Connor v. Donaldson decision and replace it with a looser standard that involves safeguards.

The trouble with legislation - even if such were not declared un-Constitutional - is that writing it is like driving with someone constantly grabbing at the wheel and yanking it one way and another. God knows what would come out of the process, but it would probably be bad.

209 My favorite part about the whole "common sense" gun control is it almost is always 100% actually "ban all the guns". And when called on it, the answer is "shut up tho".

We already know how it turns out. The crazies and criminals will still have guns (and that's how group A will have guns after they buy them from group B), and we'll still have these events occurring.

Given how prohibition on alcohol turned out, I can only imagine the shitshow a full on gun ban will bring on.

The problem we have is that "oh well a bunch of kids will die every other month or so, nothing we can do about it" is not a very viable political solution. We're going to lose the fight if that's our go-to line.

This attack could have been prevented, on mental health grounds. No old-style conservative would have dreamed of allowing someone who said and did the kinds of things this kid said and did, to run free. He should have been institutionalized long ago. We, as a society, had the information. We simply did not have the nerve to make a hard choice.

225 In 2013, the Broward County School Board, the Teachers Union, the NAACP, law enforcement, politicians and the Diversity Board entered a Holder-style agreement to change the rules about school arrests due to concerns over disparate impact on minorities.

They removed "threats" from the list of arrestable offenses. How's that working out for you, Broward?

Somebody needs to ask this sheriff if his office still supports that rule change. I can understand taking grafitti vandals or pot-smokers off the list--but threats of violence at school should have never been removed. "If you see something, say something" was pre-emptively banned for race-based political correctness.

Had this little son of a bitch been arrested for threats and bringing bullets on campus, he would have been prohibited from buying weapons. His arrest also would have shown up when the FBI was looking for "Nikolas Cruz" professional school shooter.

in fairness to the FBI they were pretty busy picking our president for us, having decided that Donald Trump was the Real Threat.

I agree, and have the same conflict in my mind. Like the idea of shipping food rather than money to buy food for food stamp recipients. On the one hand: well good, they won't use it to buy crap any more. On the other: do I want Michelle Obama in charge of what people have to eat?

If we could remotely trust our government to be wise and just and reasonable, then these programs could be okay, but... we can't. Its the monarch paradox: even if you get a really good king who can be trusted with all that power, who comes after him?

Here's the thing ... hat-tip to the Horde folks that mentioned this earlier ... but according to my reading, this ain't Young Master Cruz's first rodeo.

This 19 year old didn't just go from Troubled Teen to School Shooter. We've got multiple school suspensions and expulsions. He previously carried live-rounds to school. He was charged with shooting at a neighbor's livestock. Multiple fights on school grounds.

This kid didn't snap ... he built up to this. Including committing multiple crimes. Never spent a minute in jail - best I can tell.

238 The current protocol is to shove different medications down kids, and have them see a psychiatrist for 15 minutes once a month. That is not addressing mental illness, it's a crappy generic bandaid that doesn't stick to a gaping wound. Maybe look into working with that problem, before blaming politics for crimes.
Posted by: moki at February 15, 2018 01:57 PM (V+V4

Was he on or did he ever take medications for things like ADHD? So many of these mass shooters ( all young males with a history of mental illness) have those kinds of prescription drugs in their background. Similar to what' s up with young men who attack cops : they usually have some kind of mind-affecting drug in their systems. Hmmm...maybe young men have something going on in their developing brains that makes them highly sensitive to chemicals that directly affect their nervous system. If only the left were the party of science and actually cared about people's health and well-being, this is a topic which could be thoroughly explored. Instead, they are only interested in power grabs verging closer and closer to stomping on the neck of average Americans.

242 The left has successfully destroyed the basic skeleton of America that kept it upright and structured without anything to take its place.

If you didn't read pjmedia's headliner today

Flashback 30 Years: Guns Were in Schools ... and Nothing Happened

What changed?

You should. It pinpoints a lot of issues.

There was a time in America, before the Snowflakes, when any adult on the block could reprimand a neighborhood kid who was out of line without fear.

Even thirty years ago, the culture still had invisible restraints developed over centuries. Those restraints, those leveling commonalities, were the target of a half-century of attack by the freewheeling counterculture that has now become the dominant replacement culture.

Hollywood made fun of these restraints in films too numerous to list.

The sixties mantra "don't trust anyone over thirty" has become a billion-dollar industry devoted to the child always being right -- a sometimes deeply medicated brat who disrupts the classroom or escapes what used to be resolved with a paddling.

Instead of telling the kid to quit kicking the back of the seat, we buy seat guards to protect the seat.

that whole idea of the child always being right, or having power has always p*ssed me off. We all know how naive and ignorant we all were at an early age. I know I've said this too many times on this thread, but it always bothered me when they started showing kids in movies, commercials, tv programs being "smarter" than their parents, and smarter about just about everything. The way shows make men look dumb and worthless against all women these days. Same idea.

You don't do it based on a doctor's opinion - you do it based on clear and present threats. Specific statements like "I want to shoot up the school" "I want to shoot my neighbors" "I want to kill my neighbors pets with my guns" "Look at these pictures of the guns I have that I am going to shoot my neighbors with."

THOSE kinds of statements. People who are rational will not make them, even as a joke. People who are dangerously mentally ill will not be able to keep themselves from making them.

My only point, which has been made by others, is just the opposite of gun grabbling.

Since the 1960's the left has been on a jihad to close mental health institutions and and completely normalize people with severe mental problems. Pam Bondi, the Attorney General of Florida, was just on the tube saying that she has had a stalker for years who is constantly being picked up, taken to a hospital, filled with drugs and then put back on the street to stalk her again.

This is the top law enforcement officer in the state of Florida and even she can't get a guy committed.

Guns are not the problem. Evil and sometimes obviously crazy people are getting their hands on weapons and that is the problem.

The left will never stop pushing for confiscation for everyone. I don't and have never supported that. But I also don't think addressing the very obvious problem of allowing violent and mental disturbed people from getting their hands on weapons is a good idea or helpful to gun rights because this kind of thing will keep happening and it will only empower the left to take everyones guns.

Address the real problem of mental illness or the left will have even more ammo to go after all weapons seems kind of the opposite of gun grabbing.

I mentioned that the shooter was adopted earlier, and that his adopted mother just died from the pneumonia a few months ago. Adopted father died when the shooter was 6 yrs old.

Mother tried to get him help, even asked police for advice.

An anonymous family member told the Sun-Sentinel that Lynda had gotten Nikolas counseling from a young age for autism.

After his mom died, Nikolas and his brother stayed with friends in Lake Worth after their mom died. But Nikolas didn't like the situation and asked a former classmate if he could move in with him and his family. They agreed, even though he had already been expelled from the school for disciplinary problems, after getting in a fight with his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, The Associated Press reported. They made him get a job at a local dollar store and said they didn't see anything to suggest violence.

Lot's of stuff going on here.

The problem is when dull parents (or parent, more likely) has an average child (regression to the mean), much less a bright one, whom they, left to their own devices, would educate minimally at best, seeing no point in it. There needs to be a mechanism to give those kids a chance to make more of themselves than their parents did (or could, for that matter).

Boys are transitioning to girls, boys are having their maleness demonized 24/7 from the schools to the culture, boys are being fed drugs because they act like boys in school age age 5 and 6, young men are entering job markets where feminism has moved them out, boys grow up and see their fathers and other men destroyed by family courts, men are committing suicide at a 8-1 ratio after a separation, false allegation destroy their lives or the threat exists, married men are too big a pussies to acknowledge the current state of men and boys because they don't want to upset their wives.

We don't need a fucking police state. We need to stop handing our rights and privileges to those who have not earned them and to those who are not held accountable and do not face any consequences

323 Hey I know,

Maybe we could have a local militia where regular citizens gathered weekly twice a monthly and performed basic firearms training and competencey tests. Where each of the the members of the milita got to know each other and would also hold public sessions to engage the local community to show them they were practicing safe defensive use of weapons and training for the public good.

Local law enforcement could come by and see that its all on the up and up.

This group of people could perform self assessments of their own members and seek to expel or otherwise sanction individuals that were not up to the standards of the community, up to an including of notice to law enforcement. Local elected officials would serve to support and be a independent verification of effective governance.

These people would be allowed to carry in all area's of the public inside a designated territory that may include reciprocity with other territories operating with similar standards, as long as they were members in good standing of this local militia unit.

1 Major rule- you only get to pull your gun in public if the shit is actively hitting the fan, otherwise it will never be seen or mentioned. Not bar fights, not rowdy hooligans at the beach, hell not even a simple assault . If you have to ask yourself, should I pull the heat, then the answer is no. You are not law enforcement, you are a citizen; the first line of defense though when the shit hits the fan. You get to pull your gun when you are in that 4 minute window when the shit goes down and before the much celebrated Credentialed Trained Enforcement arrives. And yes you assume the risk of begin on the receiving end of friendly fire.

At the risk of boring and repetitive, there is no pendulum; that implies it's a social matter that can be fixed through a change in social mores. It's a legal matter: the Supreme Court's decision in O'Connor v. Donaldson in 1975 is what caused this problem. It's why there is no pendulum swinging, any more than there is on reading Miranda rights.

There were certain requirements to take the course: be 21 years of age, it must be your last class of the day, and there was a shuttle that picked you up and dropped you off at your dorm or apartment. Sadly, the class is no longer offered, it appears it was eliminated about ten years ago.

The left will never stop pushing for confiscation for everyone. I don't

very obvious problem of allowing violent and mental disturbed people

Address the real problem of mental illness or the left will have

405 >> It's worth noting that Kennedy and the (D)s leadership/plans cut federal funding to institutions but continuing federal funding in general hospitals and nursing homes in order to actively encourage insane people walking around in local communities.

It goes back even further. There was a movement in the psychiatric community as early as the 50s and 60s to use more magic drugs and less institutionalization of people as the new magic bullet to dealing with mental health issues of all kinds.

And in truth some of the mental institutions in this country have a really bad history of being dumping grounds. My sister used to volunteer at the Fernald School back when we were in high school. If you aren't familiar with that place google it. You will also learn that the word "morons" had a specific legal and clinical meaning.

The state of California, of course, was a leader in this movement and even the people who did it later admitted they went way to far.

These people never would have been able to get weapons back then because they would have been institutionalized. Now we just give them thorazine and pretend they are normal.

That's the problem.

where can I go to read up on this"

I had an argument with a leftist about that - when the problem first was noticed, this became one of the standard attacks against Reagan, along with "Reagan knew there was a cure for AIDS and did nothing because he hated gays!!!"

Deinstitutionalization was begun in the early 60's under 2 landmark bills passed under the Kennedy administration, and in California under Gov. Edmund Brown, Jerry Brown's father. An important California bill was passed while Reagan was Governor, but it should be noted that this bill was passed with a Democrat legislature and 100% Democrat support, as well as the support of all of the mental health professional organizations. The process was mostly completed by the mid 70's, which makes it preposterous to believe that anything passed under Reagan in the mid 80's could have had anything at all to do with it.

It was just another convenient slur for the left to throw at him.

Phillips Exeter (hyperbole here) doesn't have this problem because if a kid uses the wrong fork at dinner they'll throw his ass out, and he may end up at a public school. Not saying that's true of all young parents, of course, but I would imagine that those traits are more prevalent in young parents. So it's a statistical statement, not a categorical one.

Address mental illness and not just for the purpose of acquiring weapons. Deinstutionalisation was supposedly meant to provide dignity to sufferers so they could not be put in a mental hospital at the drop of a hat. All it did is create an army of homeless mentally ill people in each city.

However, in this case I put most of the blame on the FBI. They were warned, people did the right thing particularly in light of the Vegas shooting but they are too busy trying to take down a president.

People who voted for Barky have absolutely NO INTEREST in the United States. None. They want this country dissolved and replaced by some socialist, Eurotrash shithole - at best.

If you think that those are your countrymen and such a population that makes for a great "united" country, then bully for you. I understand history enough to know what such people hold in store for any country unlucky enough to be burdened with their presence.

There are truly such things as irreconcilable differences. If you can't recognize such things then that's your issue, but to make some sort of case that no such thing exists (which is really what you're arguing) is silly.

Any country with more than a small minority of leftists is not long for this world, not as a free nation, that is. We have much more than a small minority of leftists. We have enough to have voted in a guy who obviously hated every single thing about America and worked as hard as his little pea-brain allowed him to destroy this nation, with these leftist dipshits cheering the malevolent retard on at every step. Not only do I have no need for such people, I want to have NO ASSOCIATION with such people. NONE. They deserve to be forced to live in the shithole they are deadset on making and I do not.

I have made many posts about what the hard work is, and what people can do. And I hold myself just as responsible for not having done it more myself. Maybe if I had taken my civic duty more seriously, along with everyone else, we wouldn't be in this place.

The America we knew probably is gone, but I'd hope we would learn from that and work to make sure it doesn't slide further, because that is the way we are going...and it has picked up speed.

I don't think I am disparaging people by stating the obvious. I hold myself to the same standard, and I do make posts about things people can do. But I do get tired of banging the same drum all the time. Plus, with the internet and everything else people can look up themselves what they can do. Hell, make calls if nothing else.

There are times it definitely seems that way. Especially one or two always beat that drum. But I hope/don't think most aren't women haters. There are many happily married men on here, from what I can tell. COBs included. If not, I think I'd be gone already.

I disagree with you on the "United we Stand". It is not trite to me at all. I address why that is upthread. Also, Trump won. That means we are not too far gone...unless we think we are. It is tempting to do, but it is not true. Maybe if HRC was in office I could buy that argument. But with Trump winning and the other things we are seeing, it is not.

Uhhhh....no. Don't know where you are getting that.

There are always irreconcilable differences in a democracy, a republic, a community...hell, a family. We have systems to decide those. Voting is one.

There are always those differences. The civil war was that in spades. And even after it was decided those still existed. But we functioned and thrived.

To think we can only be successful if we don't have those is an equation for despair....because human nature is not that easy. Never was, never wil be.
