The former chief-of-staff of Iran’s armed forces said Tuesday that Western spies had used lizards to “attract atomic waves” and spy on his country’s nuclear program. It was the latest in a long line of incidents of Western countries, including Israel, being accused of deploying secret agents from the animal kingdom.
Sure, it sounds funny, and one part of me is pleased that the West, in particular The United States and Israel lives rent-free in Iran's head. But the reality is that Shia Islam as is practiced in Iran is ripe for this kind of insane-sounding rhetoric. Does the former chief of staff believe it? I doubt it. But it resonates with many in Iran, and it is illuminating that the junta continues to pump out this stuff. It obviously works. And it exposes the mindset of a people who were acquiescent enough to wage a decade-long war against Iraq that killed 500,000 Iranians and whose end result was...nothing. The combination of that kind of populace and an aggressive ruling class that is confident of its own success in the end-times is a big problem for the world. Israel is at ground zero (and I use that term accurately), but Western Europe and The United States is not far behind.

The story referred to is the recent arrest, torture, and custodial murder of one of the most respected environmentalists in Iran, Kavous Emami. He had no known connections to the west, and was not involved in any anti-government activities. What got him in trouble was his claim that the current government's land use and aquifer policies were going to lead to massive droughts and massive food shortages in rural areas in 5 - 10 years. Westerners who saw his work believe he was right.
Think of him as a real life Liet Kynes. And killed for much the same reason.

The very small town by me has Indians for their team name. Most admire the history of those before us, though it is largely romanticized. But some even now go out and find arrowheads in the fields, sometimes larger items, I have found some, have many from my uncles.
The affinity to the old inhabitants is natural, though I'm not sure the white man learned a lot from the American Indian other than some hunting abilities perhaps.

The left has romanticized other cultures while now demonizing the Christian/Western culture. There were culture clashes between first world and third world ... first world won. Hurray. The noble savage was not so noble, but we at times exhibited our own savagery.
As with freeing the slaves with civil war, it could have been done more peacefully/fairly. But the globalists only intend to break the West with PC revisionism (and federal tyranny), so we must again fight the tyrants.

There was a William Gibson novel (Neuromancer?) that started out with an assassination using some sort of robot dog carrying a pack of explosives and it zeroed in on the guy in a crowd of people by detecting his pheromones and something else (DNA?) and when it scampered in close enough, kaboom.
Maybe we're doing the same thing, only using lizards.

I have a good friend who grew up around guns. Her mom was one hell of a shooter, could hit any target with a .22 after growing up on a farm in the Matanuska Valley.
The friend is so anti-gun it is silly.
She has become something of a fag-hag in San Diego, and has determined that nobody needs a gun, they certainly don't need big magazines for their guns, and we should all get rid of our firearms.
I asked her how she thinks I should take down my yearly moose. She said that's different.
Then I asked her why I couldn't defend myself or my son if some bozo decides upon malfeasance. She said she thought I could scream and run.
I'm about 5'1 and not exactly built for speed.
Then I asked her what I should do if somebody big and strong decided to rape me.
She said she didn't want to discuss it any more.
This is the mindset of the new progressive. Pretty much the same mindset of the old progressive, but with less talking points. There is no answer, so they don't give one. They just double down on stupid.

first, some airhead teacher will be thinking about the 17 year old she
wants to go to bed with and she'll leave her gun unsecured, and some kid
will grab and shoot some other kid, or even worse, some even more addle
brained teacher will flip out like the teacher here in texas who
started duct taping all her students mouths shut. (I understand the
feeling, but she shouldn't have done it)

I tend to agree. But this is a Yoyo world. You're on your own. I would argue this is a smaller version of "Die Quietly Citizen" with a shoot the security guard first chaser. I agree these are hard decisions.
There are dbags everywhere who screw up the best laid plans (officers leaving their guns in public rest rooms, SS agents porking whores in foreign countries, rookie Minnesota cops shooting people in their PJs).
But you know what? You know who I trust to protect my immediate life in the here and now? It ain't some jackwagon on the other side of a quarter mile wide campus chatting up the cute first year student teacher in the faculty lounge because he's bored with his job today (every FBI agent in charge of preserving crime scenes lately). Someone walks into an office and starts spraying bullets, where is this trained guy? Sure would be nice that after I hear three shots around the corner, see two kids get shot and some dude with a smoking gun is turning to look at me that I have a better choice than "Die Quietly Citizen.... and don't bleed on the rug". Cause mostly people who argue that I am not qualified to defend myself, my own life, don't give a shit if I die. Just don't make any F-ing paperwork for them. That's the real truth.
They are just playing the odds, except, to be sure, they have all the advantages of legal possession and free carry or a personal detail, while I get the "Die Quietly, Citizen" treatment.

That's one of the big untold secrets of the American frontier - a large number of the tribes were *NOT* killed off or driven away; many just intermarried and intermixed with the frontier population on small rural homesteads. Which is why there really are a large number of Americans who have true Indian heritage.
There's a picture we have of the family of one of my ancestors from the 1870's. 7 kids, all grouped together for a family portrait. 4 are very white and blonde, 3 are very olive skinned with jet black hair. No explanation ever written down for this, but when you look at the picture, it jumps out at you. Of course they apparently just took it for granted.
