A By the Book Coup: Known Liar Susan Rice's Two-Weeks-After-the-Fact CYA "Memorandum"

Susan Rice, known for her willingness to lie publicly to protect Obama administration/Hillary State Department narratives (see her fine work on Benghazi),
wrote an email to herself, minutes before Trump was to become president,
pretending to detail a meeting that had occurred 15 days before. She wrote the email on January 20th; she pretends to memorialize a meeting that occurred January 5th.

Seems like a long time to wait before committing your Best Recollection of an important meeting to paper.

Here are some key quotes, if you can't read the quotes in Sean Davis' tweet:

The Senate Judiciary Committee is giving former Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice until February 22 to answer questions relating to an email she sent to herself prior to exiting from the Obama administration. It occurred during President Trump's inauguration. The email contains classified information, so it's a partial disclosure from the Judiciary Committee, but it seems to show that on January 5, 2017, then-President Obama, Vice President Biden, then-FBI Director James Comey, and then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates had a meeting in the Oval Office about the fallout from the Russian interference in the 2016 election.

...

Rice wrote that after being briefed by the intelligence community on Russia’s activities during the election, Obama stressed "the very aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities 'by the book'. The President stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book."

Here, Rice says they talked about withholding information from the duly elected president:

Rice continued, saying, "President Obama said he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the incoming team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason that we cannot share information fully as it relates to Russia."

The other portions are classified, but it seems as if Comey agreed to keep Obama in the loop on the possible shielding of information on Russia from incoming Trump officials.

"The President asked Corney to inform him if anything changes in the next few weeks that should affect how we share classified information with the incoming team. Corney said he would."

Grassley and Graham find this all "odd:"

Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) added, "It strikes us as odd that, among your activities in the final moments on the final day of the Obama administration, you would feel the need to send yourself such an unusual email purporting to document a conversation involving President Obama and his interactions with the FBI regarding the Trump/Russia investigation." As a result, they have a few questions that they would like an answer by February 22. Here are the twelve questions:

1.Did you send the email attached to this letter to yourself? Do you have any reason to dispute the timestamp of the email?

2. When did you first become aware of the FBI's investigation into allegations of collusion between Mr. Trump's associates and Russia?

3. When did you become aware of any surveillance activities, including FISA applications, undertaken by the FBI in conducting that investigation? At the time you wrote this email to yourself, were you aware of either the October 2016 PISA application for surveillance of Carter Page or the January 2017 renewal?

4. Did anyone instruct, request, suggest, or imply that you should send yourself the aforementioned Inauguration Day email memorializing President Obama' s meeting with Mr. Corney about the Trump/Russia investigation? If so, who and why?

5. Is the account of the January 5, 2017 meeting presented in your email accurate? Did you omit any other portions of the conversation?

6. Other than that email, did you document the January 5, 2017 meeting in any way, such as contemporaneous notes or a formal memo? To the best of your knowledge, did anyone else at that meeting take notes or otherwise memorialize the meeting?

7. During the meeting, did Mr. Corney or Ms. Yates mention potential press coverage of the Steele dossier? If so, what did they say?

8. During the meeting, did Mr. Corney describe the status of the FBI's relationship with Mr. Steele, or the basis for that status?

9. When and how did you first become-aware of the allegations made by Christopher Steele?

10. When and how did you first become aware that the Clinton Campaign and the Democratic National Committee funded Mr. Steele's efforts?

11. You wrote that President Obama stressed that he was "not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective." Did President Obama ask about, initiate, or instruct anything from any other perspective relating to the FBI's investigation?

Remember, this was actually a counter-intelligence operation: claiming Obama wasn't asking about things from a law-enforcement perspective seems a bit of lawyerly deceit.

12. Did President Obama have any other meetings with Mr. Corney, Ms. Yates, or other government officials about the FBI's investigation of allegations of collusion between Trump associates and Russia? If so, when did these occur, who participated, and what was discussed?

You might ask, "What was going on around January 5 that would incite such a big meeting?"

Well -- a whole heck of a lot, actually.

January 3, 2017: According to FNC, "outgoing Attorney General Loretta Lynch secretly signed an order directing the National Security Agency -- America's 60,000-person-strong domestic spying apparatus -- to make available raw spying data to all other federal intelligence agencies, which then can pass it on to their counterparts in foreign countries and in the 50 states upon request."

January 5, 2017: Meeting with Obama, Biden, Rice, Yates, Comey according to Rice's email to herself.

January 10, 2017: Jim Sciutto, Jake Tapper, Evan Perez and Carl Bernstein broke the story in the WaPo that allowed the dossier to go public.

That story said the briefing happened "last week," so that would put it between the 2nd and 6th, and a source tells me it was actually January 6th.

Is there anything else that you should know?

Well, how about this: If Rice's email is truthful about Comey's presence at this little meeting, then Comey misled Congress by not informing them about it.

According to Law & Crime:

Dated June 8, 2017, Comey’s "Statement for the Record" provided to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, notes, "I have tried to include information that may be relevant to the committee."

Comey clearly did not find the January 5, 2017 meeting to be particularly relevant.

In other words, on January 5, 2017, an Oval Office meeting occurred between then-FBI director Comey, the soon-to-be-former president of the United States (Obama), his soon-to-be-former Vice-President (Biden), then-National Security Advisor Susan Rice and soon-to-be Acting Attorney General Sally Yates–and Comey apparently viewed this meeting as irrelevant to congressional investigators.

Comey's failure to disclose this meeting to the Senate committee is likely to be viewed as an intentional and material omission of a highly relevant fact related to the Russiagate investigation.

Coming soon: James Comey tweets a Bible quote of Jesus saying something about the righteous man's obligation to lie to Congress.

Our findings suggest that the Green Sahara promoted human movements and demographic expansions, possibly linked to the adoption of pastoralism.

Comparing our results with previously reported genome-wide data, we also find evidence for a sex-biased sub-Saharan contribution to northern Africans, suggesting that historical events such as the trans-Saharan slave trade mainly contributed to the mtDNA and autosomal gene pool, whereas the northern African paternal gene pool was mainly shaped by more ancient events.

In plain English, the Muslims kidnapped whole caravans' worth of female African slaves, brought them north and raped them. The male slaves appear to have been worked to death and/or castrated.

Thus saith Science.

On a more serious note, I thought that email thing was a bit hinky and
weird. It's just one of those "why?" moments. And then it comes out that
it was a specific reference to an undisclosed meeting.

Did she
think this would make people not suspect anything, when in fact it's a
discoverable item that basically confirms that the meeting happened? And
does it not speak to the state of mind on the part of Rice that she had
to somehow leave a trail that she was not aware of any crimes being
committed in the meeting? Why would she do this? Is not the the secret
meeting itself a crime of obstruction or collusion ( a little winky
here)?

Shortly before Trump's inauguration, Comey has a meeting in the Oval Office with Obama, Biden, Yates, and Rice, in which they specifically discuss the Russia garbage and Trump, and Comey agrees to Obama's request to keep Obama informed, and Comey thinks this meeting is not worth a mention to congress during his sworn testimony in the congressional investigation of the Russia garbage and Trump?

If congress doesn't indict Comey for perjury, they may as well put an end to all these bullshit investigations and just publicly admit that anybody and everybody can perjure themselves before congress with impunity.

157 There's a nice little trap built into Question #5: "Is the account of the January 5, 2017 meeting presented in your email accurate? Did you omit any other portions of the conversation?"

Since Comey didn't mention this meeting at all, he is now going to be under a LOT of legal pressure to spill the beans about what he knew. Now, maybe he can be disciplined and follow the Susan Rice storyline, since it's public - BUT most people, especially arrogant men, get very nervous when they realize it's their own necks on the line, and they are prone to spill the beans about everything. (in other words, crack) That's what Susan Rice now has to worry about - can she swear that what she wrote is all that happened, and live with the risk that Comey might crack under pressure and turn state's evidence on her?

About the good guys? Some stuff will come to light, some government employees will retire with benefits or move to lobbyist jobs, maybe there's a Contempt of Congress whatever or two, there's some fundraising for mid-terms, and maybe there is some effort to try to get the FBI and DOJ to obey the law.

See also: Lois Lerner

About the bad guys? They keep doing what they've been doing and the sedition, conspiracy, and cold civil war keeps rolling along over this little speed bump. As I read recently, at no time in this century have (D)s accepted a presidential election result where an (R) won.

What can't continue won't continue, but they're winning and will keep winning until something deters them and their fellow travelers from maintaining course.

___________________

Concentrate on that little seemingly innocuous question. This email to herself included confidential information. It was done about 45 minutes after Pence was sworn in, and about 15 minutes after Trump was sworn in. As of that time, she was no longer a National Security Adviser.

But, that aside. I think this is more related to the unmasking process. Rice was unmasking Trump campaign representatives....as was Powers (who claimed she didn't do them all). Evidently, someone was using her authority (likely with permission). What better way than through a "perceived" secure email account. So, if you are going to have a communication network to your "minions" one way to do it would be to share your email account en total with an outside party. And, when you wanted to pass along the marching orders from the one(s) calling the shots...well, just send an email to yourself knowing the outside party would have access...and pass it on.

One such message might be "by the book." Or, IOW...shut it down.

Agreed - the story linked in the morning thread, as to why has Flynn's sentencing been postponed til May? was very informative on that count.

Most people don't realize how weird it is for sentencing on a guilty plea to be postponed so long, at the prosecutions request. That doesn't happen in any normal case.

I read a couple days ago a long piece by Jonathan Alter, on why the evidence was going to still bring down the Trump administration. I read it because I wanted to understand why the leftists believe in this so hard, and he did make the case as well as he could, and almost make it believable. BUT - I rather easily found two huge holes in his argument - the first was that he assumed that the Russian Government itself had hacked John Podesta's email and released them in order to help Trump. AFAIK, that is a huge assumption with no actual evidence of any kind to back it up. 2nd, they count on Mike Flynn to testify against Trump personally and to bring the whole scheme to the surface.

If Mike Flynn walks free, the entire house of cards collapses - the entire Mueller investigation collapses - the Democrats forlorn hope collapses. We'll know in May, after the IG's report is out.

Y'know, if he hits you, leave. Take what you can, and leave. And then file charges, and get what's yours.

Don't tell me how strong you are after the fact. You let it go on, and you are as much to blame for the second time as he is.

Yeah, that's rough. So is life. Don't ask me to feel sorry for you if you can't stand up for yourself in the first place.

And you don't get points for trying to make points now, when politics plays it your way, either.

What is stunning is how, yet again, it breaks along partisan lines. Are there any crimes, malfeasance, etc etc etc committed by a Democrat that other Democrats would think was beyond the pale? Sadly, I don't believe there is.

And what's more is that a large percentage of the public doesn't call for action, prosecution, etc. I feel like we are just pissing into the wind being all concerned about this stuff.

Lying Susan Rice had the power to tell our 60K NSA to give all their secrets away to almost everybody?

The good news is Obama (or Jarrett and the handlers) felt it necessary to keep the IGs and others out of the loop, so even if DC is a swamp of leftists, not all of them are so quick to totally surrender America to the commie mafia. (even if they have been doing it incrementally).

The BigMoney behind these people ... Soros/Rothschilds/Gates?/Schmidt?/ etc. .... we need to climb up the chain and pull down the chiefs. The Rothschilds recently sold a huge property in the Black Forest the size of Manhattan. Not a normal thing, so speculation is they are perhaps trying to hide or redistribute their assets, to hide from a coming prosecution (since they were sure Hillary was in like Flynn, or not like Flynn, whatever).

265 "
Agreed - the story linked in the morning thread,
as to why has Flynn's sentencing been postponed til May? was very
informative on that count.

Most people don't realize how weird it is for sentencing on a guilty
plea to be postponed so long, at the prosecutions request. That
doesn't happen in any normal case.

I read a couple days ago a long piece by Jonathan Alter, on why the
evidence was going to still bring down the Trump administration. I
read it because I wanted to understand why the leftists believe in this
so hard, and he did make the case as well as he could, and almost make
it believable. BUT - I rather easily found two huge holes in his
argument - the first was that he assumed that the Russian Government
itself had hacked John Podesta's email and released them in order to
help Trump. AFAIK, that is a huge assumption with no actual evidence of
any kind to back it up. 2nd, they count on Mike Flynn to testify
against Trump personally and to bring the whole scheme to the surface.

If Mike Flynn walks free, the entire house of cards collapses - the
entire Mueller investigation collapses - the Democrats forlorn hope
collapses. We'll know in May, after the IG's report is out.

Posted by: Tom Servo at February 13, 2018 01:02 PM (k1TUh)"
He also know Manafort won't turn either and his counsel has taken a very aggressive stance against the charges. Plus he further knows Manafort really doesn't have anything to offer, since the entire investigation is based on a fraud. The bottom line is that the SP as appointed and purposed in the DOJ letter is DOA. There was no collusion or coordination, none. It was a political operation launched by Democrats, assisted by sympathetic (or incompetent) law enforcement/intelligence agencies and underwritten by Obama's executive branch. If anything should be investigated, it is within those players, not the president-elect.

317 Observing liberals the way I try to, it comes to me that there is a main reason that Rice thought that this was a great idea: she thought of it.

It doesn't sound as good to think of inferior ideas. Thus the liberal doesn't want to feel that he is thinking inferior ideas, and therefore their ideas are sufficient.

Secondly, the faithful will believe it. I can imagine that Rice herself, feels that if she were in their shoes and somebody could produce an email they mailed to themselves that seemed to provide a talking by which to argue the exoneration of a beloved leader in their cause, she would use that. She would embrace it, and believe it as far as she could--and even beyond that it offers enough of plausible scenarios to counteract the contrary idea.

I think it's inevitable that libs quote this bizarre email as "proof" (for people who don't know what proof is.) that Obama did the exact opposite of push a questionable investigation into Trump. He said he wanted it "by the book".

It doesn't have to be true. It just has to provide enough chaff that we can fill up talk shows with "two sides" which can't get together, and in the decency of disputes, just drop it. Let's not be punitive over what we can't agree happened! (Let's ignore that we can't agree that "Russian collusion" happened...)

This is the way I view most of the libs filibustering on Tucker's show. They're there to fill air time, to spew spin, and to provide the true-believers talking points and coverage to continue in the Cause.

346 "Why hasn't anyone been indicted?"

This gets asked a lot. Here's my take: With the DOJ and the FBI so deeply corrupted by the Obama Administration the first step is to clean those agencies up. Get people out, either fired, demoted, transferred - whatever. Once that long and difficult process has been accomplished (and note the number of high level people in the FBI and DOJ who have resigned, been fired, demoted, and transferred) then you will be able to actually indict and try people with an expectation that the cases will not be deliberately screwed up.

"But I want indictments and trials of people that the corrupted FBI and DOJ are protecting and I want those indictments and trials conducted by that same corrupted FBI and DOJ!"

Now that's just being silly.

Dear Diary,

Man do I love the fall! The crisp autumn weather really makes me feel alive and want to get out and do one thing active.

A friend told me about the run-down conditions at the Book Depository. It's so sad, our kids deserve the best education. I think I will pay it forward today and ask them if they would like a little volunteer help fixing up the 6th floor.

Everyone is so crazy about the President visiting, but I'm just not into politics that much. Besides, I saw a couple of guys had already set up lawn chairs on the grassy knoll that has the best view anyway this morning on my jog.

Oh, better lock my rifle up safely in the closet so that nobody messes with it!

Off to help the world,

Can anyone here imagine a faster way to start a hot war in the US than to imprison Hillary or Obama?

I know there's a lot of bravado on the right when it comes to "having all the guns" and how the left is going to crumble over the right's mighty shooting prowess, but the truth of the matter is even soy boys can learn to adequately shoot a rifle in a couple of hours.

Does anyone doubt China and Russia would be happy to supply those without guns so we could all shoot it out for a while? They'd love a second civil war because they'd be more powerful on the world stage with a fractured US.

That is a possibility - the reason I discount it, and this is admittedly a big assumption, is that I strongly believe that *anything* new and incriminating that came up would have been already published on the front page of either the NYT or the WaPo. I don't think Mueller's team holds anything back from them that would be beneficial to his political cause, since the political goals are clearly the most important.

So the fact that the NYT has published nothing more on Flynn leads me to believe that there is nothing more on Flynn.

Rice's CYA statement is allegedly about a meeting smack dab in the middle of those coverup activities.

Below my #346, reposted to make it easier to find:

"Why hasn't anyone been indicted?"

437 >>Fuck firing. Laws have been broken. Who has went to jail?

What part of the investigation hasn't finished yet remains unclear?

If it isn't already obvious this is by far the biggest scandal in US history. It likely involves not just high ranking officials in the US but also in UK and perhaps more. Seemingly everyday now more evidence and more people are being implicated.

When the OIG report hits it is likely there will be a 2nd special counsel with grand jury and indictment powers and that is when we will start seeing charges.

It really is pointless to keep asking this everyday and even more for me to keep answering it with the same answer so this will be the last time I answer. The idea that we have had people at the highest levels of our government openly trying to perform a coup on the other political party and nobody will be charged is idiotic. They violated the basic right of all Americans by trying to deny the right to free and fair elections, people will be charged.

Aside from inappropriate stuff, which people mostly laughed off years ago, there was always a fair degree of complimenting people in the past. New suit or dress, hairstyle, etc. It wasn't seen as inappropriate, but more polite conversation because it was genuine, not sexual in nature. This is especially true if you worked in a global job (e.g. Paris or Italy, it was not, and still in some cases isn't inappropriate to kiss a female colleague on the cheek, or hug).

I am not sure when that all changed into "unwelcome advances of a sexual nature". I missed that memo.

444 Qanon and Sundance both seem to have large followings ... admirers. Sundance puts together some good stuff. Does he have a "source" or is it all just his own gathering of open source info?

IDK, but it is good that a lot of people get involved and have groups of people trying to get at the truth. At the same time sometimes those groups go off on some (to me) wild conspiracy theories (the crazy ones, not the maybe true ones).

The 4chan and 8chan guys have turned up some good stuff here and there, and it wouldn't surprise me in Sundance also combs through some of those sources. If he has his own "Deep Throat" then good for him. But it is hard to really know without having someone that knows what the IGs are actually doing.

Hannity probably has as good of contacts as anyone. If a bona fide insider wanted to release bit and pieces to the public, I'd think they'd go through Hannity (and those he has on) instead of more obscure bloggers. Comey went to the NY Times after all, though Soros uses the more obscure for nefarious methods.

454 Patience folks,
Prosecutions in DC are like going after the Mob. The people generally have quite good lawyers, know contacts, etc. and when dealing with conspiracies, it is crucial to establish who did what (otherwise they simply point the finger at someone else) and when, destroy alibis, secure evidence, and so forth. For all we know, a grand jury is convened right now and is primarily looking at documentary evidence.

Greylord, which dealt with Chicago's buying and selling of justice in state and local courts took years before convictions. Abscam, likewise, and Iran Contra took six long years. Rudy's takedown of the mob in NYC also took years. If you want justice, then you have to play along at the slow pace that methodical investigations take. The other thing is that Trump has to govern and so he has to stay as far away from the investigation as possible. For that reason, it is good that Trump did not appoint a crony as Atty. Gen--presidents tend to either appoint cronies or outsiders as AG.

461 Is it just me, or does it say "Mr. Corney" throughout?

462 Wasn't the dessert troll saying all the time that Flynn was definitely guilty of what he plead to? Well you know he didn't actually say it, because he's dishonest, but he sure liked to disagree with anyone calling bullshit on Flynn's guilt.

463 So this reinforces my belief that Senate Repubs would be fine and dandy with convicting Trump after a House impeachment, should the Dems take the House this fall.
What else explains them not rushing to the nearest microphone and pressuring scumbag Mueller to end his investigation ? Cuz the Dems would've been screaming by now if the Prez was a Dem.

464 248 "The IG is an Obama appointee, some may think he's clean, but plenty of people said that about Comey and Mueller too, until they proved otherwise."

Knowing that Yates FORBID the DOJ IG from conducting oversight on the DOJ Nat Sec Division and the FBI Counterintel Division, I guessing that she knew that he was a straight-shooter and would blow the whistle on any illegal or unethical activities. So she kept him away.

Yates and Comey were fired for things completely unrelated to the coup.
Im talking about Ohr, McCabe, Rosenstein, et al.

None of the main actors have been fired.

Everything was related to the coup. Yates was fired because of her insubordination to the lawful athority

466 Rice Facepalms and mutters, "I forgot that dratted timestamp on all EMails!"
Then sighs and says under her breath, "Relax Bay all Is OK I'll blame it on the Russians, Trump and for good measure BUSH, yes that's the ticket!" Types furiously another back dated email.

467 It really is pointless to keep asking this everyday and even more for me to keep answering it with the same answer so this will be the *last time I answer.*

No. You have done Yeoman's work here in the comments section.

You keep people from despair.

What you do is too important to put down out of frustration.

468 Susan, help save Obama,
You just write some shit so he looks good,
Send it off in an email to yourself,
Susan, help save Obama,
Write yourself that damned email,
If it helps him, you might feel better,
When you get jailed.

469 Note Susan sent this at 11:47 on Jan 20th. 30 minutes before Trump was inaugurated and after Obama was out of power. It was definitely a knife in O's back.
