House Intelligence Committee Votes to #ReleaseTheMemo, Along Party Lines

Democrats and NeverTrumpers, but I definitely repeat myself, are arguing simultaneously that, 1, the release of this memo jeopardizes national security, and 2, it's a big nothingburger.

They're definitely not panicking.

141 "The memo itself is far less important than the fact that GOP Congressmen are now at war with our own law enforcement and intelligence community, something in a lifetime of being a Republican I never expected to see. This will end badly."

First, it's not the entire community, it's just a corrupt cadre at the top. Second, they were the ones who started the war by attempting to launch a coup to take out the duly elected President. The Congress had the choice to either accept the coup, or make what the plotters were doing public. Does the allegiance of the Congress lie with the Bureaucracy, or with the People?

When the so-called law enforcement and intelligence community chooses to betray the people, they have made themselves the enemy of the people, and must be thoroughly cleansed, if not disbanded completely.

Gowdy already shadow-leaked some of the headline elements of the memo. Trump surveillance was based on unvetted Fusion crap dossier, which DNC/Clinton campaign paid for, and somebody involved (from context I'm guessing FBI) was caught saying/writing they'd do "anything" to prevent Trump's election. Dunno if unmasking is touched on, Gowdy didn't mention that aspect.

260 From Conservative Treehouse:

Additionally, the politically constructed counter-memo, led by minority leader Adam Schiff, received a supportive committee vote making it available to the full house of representatives. However, following the same procedural process as before - the Schiff Memo was not approved for public release (via executive branch), until the full house has an opportunity to review it.

Because the Schiff Memo was not released to the public; and because the committee is making Schiff follow the same rules applied to Nunes; and because the content of the approved release is adverse to Democrats corrupt interests; Adam Schiff rushed to the microphones to complain.

And dot-dash you are correct. It's always a question of balancing interests in disclosure vs. continued secrecy (as when Reagan decided to show some leg on our surveillance of Soviet air defense activity to document the KAL 007 shoot-down).

As I've said above, in this case, even without knowing specifically (obviously), I'm having trouble imagining what "sources and methods" sensitivity there could even be. This is all about activities on US soil, by US entities (the scandalous parts, that is). Not many real secrets on surveillance issues any more.

The FBI was turned into a political enforcement arm and lost all objectivity, impartiality, and broke the public's trust. This should be abhorrent to anybody, regardless of political affiliation. 350 Nood, so this is willowed, but I suspect rhomboid is not understanding what I mean.

FISA has been around a long time, yes. But Patriot Act set it up as the arbiter of Title 10 exceptions. Up until this situation, I didn't suspect that it would be politicized. I know and respect a lot of people in the IC.

However, this situation gives a lot of ammunition to those who oppose the FISA apparatus on civil libertarian grounds. I contend the IC and its congressional supporters are very nervous about that blow back from this.

This is why what Obama and his cronies did is so egregious, they showed what can be done if someone high enough up decides to break the rules.

Yeah, ATF was looking at getting their funding cut so they needed a PR stunt. The arrest warrant could have been served when he was away in town but the raid, including TV and press media in tow, was to get big funding.

All went sideways and so the FBI was called in to run things. FBI was in charge when they pumped in a flammable tear gas in a place with no power where people used bottled propane for light, heat, and cooking. Fire and death results.

Posted by: geoffb at January 29, 2018 07:52 PM (zOpu5)

363 Yeah - I really don't get it. The dems are panicking...about what exactly? This is a memo by some republican congressmen summarizing their investigative findings into the Russia thingy. If they disagree with the conclusions, well, that is what politics are about, and they are free to present their alternate view of the case.

Me think the problem is, there is no "alternate" view of the facts, and the memo will destroy the Russia collusion case, and potential result in indictments of several of their cronies.

Dems only fight this hard, and lie this much, when one of their "national treasures" is about to get smoked by the facts. So it must paint either Clinton or Obama in a very bad light.

393 "It's always the Fire Next Time with you guy. Well, wake me up when Mueller does anything."

Gladly. You don't know how criminal investigations work, do you, stupid? Well, stupid, let me tell you, dope, the reason nobody knows anything, idiot, is because Mueller is the best prosecutor of his generation and there haven't been any leaks. Sorry, but some people are actually capable professionals and their operations don't leak like sieves or the Trump White House.

Posted by: Fuck You at January 29, 2018 08:56 PM (BVANQ)

394 Really, you suck as a troll. But in fairness, I wouldn't want to have to defend your side.

the left threw a lot of animus at W but we never questioned his patriotism or his dedication to the country.

this is an existential threat and russian interference is a clear, present danger to the republic.

412 RIGHT with all the glorious legislative triumphs of the past year and the slow sad fizzle of the Russ--

oh wait

Trump's only win so far has been the tax bill and that hasn't been tested yet. He had a golden-plate opportunity to do infrastructure WHICH IS NECESSARY but when's the last time we heard about that

Other than that it's been all executive orders, those much-maligned EO's that were so evil when Obama was cranking them out

Posted by: Fuck You at January 29, 2018 09:31 PM (BVANQ)

419 Well, when I contrast the frantic behavior of the current Troll with the behavior of Republicans during the Obama regime's rule of Error - I don't have too much of a problem judging which side is exhibiting insane behavior. Here is a clue, our side wasn't the one out howling our anguish at the moon.

Dude you lost an election - get over yourselves and grow up. 2016 was the year before last. Mueller is going to be lucky if the Uranium One investigation doesn't wind up with him getting indicted.

Posted by: An Observation at January 29, 2018 10:23 PM (hjmX+)

420 The Mueller investigation bears a much closer resemblance to what the Mueller did to Dr. Steven Hatfil than what he did to Gotti. There is no there there - even Strzok knew that.
