A Question of Scruples Anyone remember that board game? The cards had little moral dilemmas on them, like “If a storekeeper gave you too much change would you return it” of “If you were having sex with a girl and she died, would you finish?” Things like that. Well, I had a thought along those lines today. Suppose you were to open a clinic offering totally free abortions-but in order to get the abortion the pregnant woman would have to get a (again, free) full medical exam, including a 3D ultrasound and full counseling on alternatives? Some percentage, I think a significant percentage, would change their mind. If 100 pregnant women walk into a Planned Parenthood “clinic”, you're going to get 100 dead babies, or damn near. But if, say, 40% of the women who came to the free clinic changed their mind, that's 40 babies that have been saved. The sad truth is, no one, not even the closest of family members, will ever know the line between suicide and "accidental" overdose.
It is not uncommon though, when fentanyl is introduced into the mix, for experienced drub abusers to get it wrong.

It was a pretty popular series too, back in the day. Of course, they made it back when the story was still only half complete, and had to make up the ending. And that explained why the "sort of sequel" series had two dead characters very much alive and well.
There was a later Lodoss series that incorporated the official ending, but it sucked. Don't know if that's because the actual ending really did suck, or if it was the fault of the riders for the new series.
Having said that, both of the elves were hawt. Probably still are.

It takes a good amount of care and precision to extract fentanyl from patches... not a trait commonly found among abusers. So the OD rate is dramatically higher with fentanyl than heroin.

It's too bad that you can't get a Bachelors degree in skilled specialties such as this. It has sadly become expected that one with a Bachelors degree is preferable to one who isn't... regardless of what that degree is in.
Frankly, the "master/apprentice" dynamic is still the preferable way of teaching higher skills.
I'd go so far as to dismiss any Ph.D. program that did not follow that model.

You have NO idea unless you've had some.
He had a cracked hip that became a broken hip. I have no way of understanding how he managed that except with excessive doses of pain killer.
I've had arthritis pain and gout pain and kidney stone pain.
I KNOW what pain is like and can withstand most except gout pain.
With some meds the arthritis pain is stand able. When my hips went wonky (both) even my regular pain killer was not up to dulling it when it would shoot through my leg and into my spine.
I've just started coming out of it and i could understand how it can be easy to forget how much and when you took your last pain meds. You become disoriented, lose track of time and how much you took. Even with the low acting stuff I take it's a risk so I made myself endure some just to be sure.
He had MUCH more than I did I'm guessing. And he was tired and worn out. Where the hell was his family? This devoted family we're seeing now? Why wasn't somebody with him all the time? Making sure he wasn't taking too much or that it was under control? I am not happy with them from what we're hearing or seeing.

My son was on fentanyl patches when I finally found a doctor who would actually treat his back pain between surgeries. It was the only pain medication that wasn't either ineffective or an allergen to him. Those patches were a Godsend as they brought his level 10 pain down to a 4 or 5 so he could function enough to do home bound schooling and play video games with his friends. The months before that, all he could do was lay very still in bed and use all his concentration to keep the pain at bay.
I HATE that fentanyl is being demonized in this "opioid crisis" when the stuff that is killing people is not the prescriptions that help people like my son.

While on staff at well-known school (which shall remain anonymous, for their own protection) we had a life-long professional scientific glass maker. The guy learned his art at the Mayo Clinic.
He was insanely good. Things you could not imagine being made on account of complexity, he would just nonchalantly knock out. I have a couple of pieces he made.

In Virginia at least, submissions to the Department of Forensic Science of prescription fentanyl have been stead for over a decade at a very low level (25-27 samples a year). In contrast, in 2016 DFS analyzed almost 2000 samples of illicitly produced fentanyl (either from drug busts of as part of overdose cases. It is not prescription fentanyl that is killing people. It is illicit fentanyl produced in China and Mexico.

I don't know if they ever explicitly stated that Dilandau was a guy, but I think the implication was pretty clear (especially since it's not until late in the series that there's any reason to think that Dilandau hasn't always been a guy). My guess is that if they hadn't intended Dilandau to have been turned fully male, then they would have said something after the reveal about the character's backstory.
And then, of course, the changes all revert at the end.
So... imo female in the backstory, male through most of the series, and female again at the end.

Also, (prescription) fentanyl really does not have a high risk than other drugs... except for junkies that will find a drug of abuse, the rate of addiction for opioid pain medications including fentanyl is very low (.24% in the last insurance pool I studied... that number includes both heroin and prescription drugs since they are all lumped together as opioids).

Never got into Sword Art Online.
The "RPG" novels/manga/anime of recent years that I enjoyed included:
Goblin Slayer -- Always made clear that the goblins were evil... through demonstrated rape, murder, arson, and rape.
KonaSuba (God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!) -- A good combination of parody/adventure of RPG tropes where all the main characters are messed up/flawed but still entertaining.
Death March through the Parallel World Rhapsody -- Comes close to the "Mary Sue" trope, but escapes it, in part due to rational and informed thinking. Also recognizes that slavery would exist in most of these fantasy settings.
Is it OK to pick up girls in a dungeon? -- An unfortunate title, there is good world building, interesting and complex characters, and an explanation for why a potential "Mary Sue" ain't.
Rokka no Yuusha (i.e. Braves of the Six Flowers) -- The novels have been some of the few where I've been compelled (even if it is in translation) to scrutinize the particulars to figure out just what the climax would be.
There are probably more, but those are what stuck out in my mind at the moment...

She sent me pictures of the inside and outside, and it's a gorgeous place.
It's still a little new-agey and touchy feely for my taste, but it's been experiencing a population boom too, so now most of the people there are investment specialists and real estate agents and doctors and lawyers, basically the same kind of people you find anywhere in an upscale market.

A lot of "industrial" stuff is utter crap. Custom made by a true craft-master is the only way to go.
Of course, it helps if the glassblower properly understands what you want. To that end, I'm glad that one of the only three non-waste-of-time classes I took in Jr. High was drafting.

It pisses me off so much what the leftists have done to your beautiful state. Uncles who were in the navy in WWII settled there after the war and tried to convince us to move out there. I loved it - I'm in Wisconsin but I'm not a cold weather girl!
But now? To wreck a place with so much going for it is beyond criminal. I've said before it's like watching a beautiful woman slash her face up with a razor.

Yes some still exist. But it is getting harder to find really good ones. Just had a new piece of equipment installed in my lab. New glass tube would not work. The old tube from my old machine fixed the problem. May have been a contamination issue and not a glass blowing issue but I'll likely never know.

There's a movie as well which is great, and a 2nd season which is...well, still good, but didn't live up to the first. But it's become my go-to show to recommend to people who want to dip their toe into the anime waters.

It depends on what you mean by dystopia or apocalypse. A LOT of anime takes place in a blasted or destroyed world.
High School of the Dead is a great zombie apoc movie, if...very Japanese in places. (kinks)
Berserk is a fantasy apoc anime, by the end you'll be screaming, weeping or have quit.
Fist of the North Star is the classic, in a way so is Curse of the Overfiend , though both have serious sex and or violence in them.
Appleseed is a great mech/post-apoc series in ways, though a lot of the depth is subtle.
Likewise Ghost in the Shell and Akira both have a cyberpunk dystopia feel even if society has not completely collapsed.

Re:Zero is good, not sure how to best desribe without spoilers but involves some psychological torment of the main character.
Fate/Apocrypha is a battle royale type show, but the main character is incredibly bland. Fate/Zero is similar and amy appeal to you more.

Naoto from Persona 4, the middle right reverse trap, is a notable exception. She's a very serious character. She's also not presented in a romantic light until after her real gender is revealed.

Astolfo, the trap character from Fate/Apocrypha, is based on a real historical character (albeit likely a fictional one). The historical character Astolfo was supposedly one of Charlemagne's Twelve Paladins. Apparently he was also quite the ladies man, and according to what I've heard, Charlemagne's queen once challenged him to cross dress.
The version seen above (in the lower right corner) is based on that story.

And the series ending is just an awesome piece of writing - it's hard to believe that animation can be so emotionally moving, but they hit the mark, and also wrap up most of their storylines at the same time. I remember one writer saying "Writing a good story is actually kind of easy. Writing a good ending is what's so hard." They nailed the ending.

This. The attitude is usually similar to the scene in Stalag 17 when one of the characters puts a mop on his head and pretends to be a woman. And then, much to his horror, one of the other characters - who's drunk - mistakes him for a real woman.
In short, a reason - usually comedic - is contrived to put one of the male characters in drag. The character then tries to go about his business without attracting attention. But, since it's a comedy, they invariably get at least one guy chasing them who won't take no for an answer, and also a few girls who are either horribly jealous or watch in awe at how cute the "new girl" is.
They don't all work out like that. But it's common enough. Heck, Ranma 1/2 is essentially an entire *series* built around that idea.

The first season had conspiracy stuff too. The stakes just get a bit higher.
I liked both a great deal. And even if you don't find the main arcs particularly appealing the "stand alone" episodes are still great in both seasons.

This. The attitude is usually similar to the scene in Stalag 17 when one of the characters puts a mop on his head and pretends to be a woman. And then, much to his horror, one of the other characters - who's drunk - mistakes him for a real woman.
In short, a reason - usually comedic - is contrived to put one of the male characters in drag. The character then tries to go about his business without attracting attention. But, since it's a comedy, they invariably get at least one guy chasing them who won't take no for an answer, and also a few girls who are either horribly jealous or watch in awe at how cute the "new girl" is.
They don't all work out like that. But it's common enough. Heck, Ranma 1/2 is essentially an entire *series* built around that idea.

yes, a lot of Trap comedies are played for comedy, not so much for sex.
No, on the other hand, because of minimal secondary sex characteristics between Japanese men and women, especially in their teens, there has been a loooooooong tradition of pretty boys/men being the object of desire for other men.
Movies like 'Slave to the Sword' aren't fantasy, they're lightly fictionalized history.

Note that since there are so few votes now in the Senate - precisely because the collapse of regular order, the use of catch-all CRs vs. individual approps bills, we see very few of these key votes. The reason you want lots of these votes is precisely to force these vulnerable Ds (in this case) to take stands that can be used against them at home.

Sadly though, I can't then attain an upright posture in the morning, upon awakening.
Best sleep I ever enjoyed, was the dual-density 4" premium foam mattress in the aft cabin of the New Dawn.
Not only was the mattress firm, supportive and comfortable....but, a boat on the water, gently tugging at the dock lines with the merest whisper of a breeze?

But you do give good advice. Buy stuff that, once bought, is checked off 'the list'. I bought my wood desk back in '86 when the company I worked for was relocating -- for the princely sum of $150. It's large and heavy (it takes more than two people to move it), with that 50s-60s Danish modern look, not like the cheapies used in offices today. I will never have to buy another desk again. Wheeled desk chairs are another matter.

Brawl in Cell Block 99 had Vinve Vaughn playing a straight edge former boxer/fighter going through trails to protect and provide for his wife and baby. He has a strong moral code and principles. Goes from auto mechanic to drug middle man to prison. Has to pay a debt to save his wife by fighting. Absolutely brutal and determined pace.
Highly recommend both.

After years of camping with my family, I went on my first campout with the Boy Scouts. Our first breakfast was whatever we brought from home. Some of the guys are eating PBJs or cold cereal. I get some coals off to the side and make the popmip breakfast. Along with some Swiss Miss hot chocolate.
