The longer she holds out the more money she collects when she starts collecting. It seems to be about $100 more per month for every year she'll delay. So you have to factor that.

He is fairly high functioning (would have previously been considered to have Asperger's) and was in integrated classes for everything. He is getting moved to a more restrictive class for algebra and probably Spanish (class scheduling) because he cannot keep pace in algebra class. He is not pleased with being transferred to a more restrictive class, but he knows he cannot keep pace in algebra (getting a 35 out of a 100), so he is not being too resistant. There will be an adjustment period, but we live in NY so he has to take a Regents test at the end of the school year in algebra, and his best chance of passing the Regents test is being in a class where he can get more attention and he can handle the pace. He is top of his entire class in AFJROTC though.

We have friends who have sued NYC DoE twice to get services for their autistic son, who is attending private school specializing in severely autistic children. Public schools could not handle their son. NYC DoE likes to settle at the verge of trial to make it as expensive as possible for the parents, and by settling, they don't have to pay legal fees if they lost after trial. Our friends have spent in excess of $10k getting appropriate services for their son.
We live in NYC as well, in the only part of NYC to go Republican in the past election cycles, and have never had to sue to get our son the appropriate services. Have suggested once we may have to a commence an action and then asked the school officials if they have absolute discretion in their decision making (which means they may not be indemnified by the City in a lawsuit - and thus have to pay for their own legal defense) and how to properly spell their names and which address they prefer to be served at. With reports from his teacher, no school official was willing to take the risk of having to pay for their own defense.
Our son should have been in a smaller class setting for elementary school, but by the time we got him diagnosed (formal diagnosis in the 5th grade), he really did not need the smaller class room setting.
Our son has continued to develop and become more "typical" as he gets older. Things will improve for your daughter and you most likely, though teenage years will be interesting (we have a 9.5 yro daughter who is hitting the tweenage years) Best of luck to you and your daughter and family. You are already doing right by her.

I guess it all depends on what you want to measure. Measuring BMI probably gives you a good idea of a person's BMI per the measurement. Measuring health? Nah. Like I posted the other day, the fittest, hunkiest 28 or so year old man I know is unbelievably weak and has very little stamina.

We all know tall guys with no legs or arms who have a huge beer gut. On a BMI scale, those guys might be considered normal BMI or overweight, while a shorter guy with broad shoulders, above average muscle mass and no gut might be considered obese.

I think there is little to no correlation between what happens in a local election in WI and who wins the house or senate or presidency.

Right. I'm about average height for a male -- when I was younger and had a small gut, I hovered between "normal" and "overweight" on the BMI scale. Now I lost the gut but work out (a little, nothing crazy). I gained a few pounds and now am solidly "overweight."
I'm not sure how to square that circle, since I'm in much better shape now then I was 5 years ago, but according to the BMI index, I was better off with less muscle mass and more fat.

There are plenty of districts and states that vote R in presidential elections, but vote a mixed bag for other elections. Look at West Virginia, for example. I don't know / care much about this WI election, but these elections almost never come down to a referendum on the president, and the only reason it's even being talked about that way is because of how the media is framing it. And they never frame it that way when it's a D president in office.

When I was in my mid to late 20's I was a fairly maniacal workout freak. I used to do a body fat measurement twice a week with both calipers and weighing in water.
I got so bad about it I was to the point where I would actually faint sometimes after working out cause I had almost no body fat but I was at the same time in great shape muscle wise.
By the BMI tables I was overweight.

I can still do 30 pullups, 100 pushups, bench twice my body weight and with a 34" waist and 44" chest am so far out in the BMI as to be morbidly obese. Body fat is more than I like but muscle weighs a shit ton more than fat.

Again, without knowing much about the race, I can almost guarantee it came down to a battle between the two candidates, not "vote for me if you approve of Trump, vote for him if you do not."
That is almost never the case -- politics are mostly local. It almost always turns out that the guy who shook the most hands, had the best voter turnout, ran the most ads and spun the best bullshit won, while the guy who got a DUI in 1992 and/or committed some perceived or real political faux pas lost. (or whatever, you can fill in the details based on specific races.)

I think the paradigm has shifted. All the old rules and predictions are out the window, but I don't know the new ones. And local issues in the state count higher.
Independents are really crucial. And I'm wondering if more people are falling into that category. Certainly the Never Trumpers are. If they need to vote Dem to take out Trump, they will.
Historically, I would expect to lose seats to Dems in 2018. And with the media ratcheting up hysteria to eleventy...I don't know how that will affect people's voting. They have people believing in Armageddon (sp).

If I ever hear that BMI crap from a Dr. I'm gonna strip to my tidy whities and ask him to show me where exactly I'm supposed to lose weight. No love handles whatsoever, and a six pack. Sometimes eight pack in summer.
Yet BMI says I should be 20 pounds lighter. Really?

Exactly. In order for you to NOT be considered overweight by the BMI, you basically have to be a marathon runner. I'm 5.10" and in pretty good shape. I'm currently around 185#, eat pretty healthy (via blue apron and home chef) and work out regularly. According to the BMI, I'm overweight.
Like 5 years ago, I was on a strict Atkins diet that rolled into a period of natural fasting like Ace has been on about for a while. I got down to about 172 and that was nuts. Even THEN I was still "overweight" by the BMI. It's insane for anyone to gage their health by the BMI. It's pseudo-science that fits in perfectly with the kind of bullshit nutritional science the government has been responsible for over the last 50 years.
If people in pretty good shape are being told they're overweight, how is that supposed to help anyone be healthier.
