The setting is a throwback to all the Renaissance stuff where the Bible people lived in 1500s Firenze. The face is a 1920s beauty. The body is a current heroin-chic model.

This is really lost in time for me. I'm going to guess that it's earlier than I think. It's pre-1920s.

And shit, it's a hot girl naked on a horse. It hits all of my buttons so I have lost the ability to think clearly about it.

I directed some of my subordinate leaders to come up with interesting and relevant hands-on training for drill this weekend, and I worked my butt off this week after work so that I could conduct a concurrent professional development for my Soldiers as well.

Of course, now the Democrats are threatening to shut down the government. We've been told that, should that happen, drill will end at noon on Saturday. No training, no pay (and for some of the guys, this is their only source of income), nothing.

The funny thing is that, even by their own goals and standards, this story is a complete waste of time and effort for them. Are any Trump voters watching MSNBC? Not for a year now. Is that story going to change the minds of any of their viewers on anything? Nope. It's just them gritting their teeth and thinking "oh we hates him we hates him we does!!!"

and even with that there are a few on their own team that are going to say to themselves "damn, that mans a beast, sleeping with centerfolds at his age!"

Here's a hint at crafting an emotional narrative, Progs - you really want to stay away from the stories that paint your enemy as Powerful and Sexually Virile.

Most interesting though is that I can only find one line with an actual immigrant (post revolution) and every other one goes back to the 1600s. Unfortunately I did find some yankees, ie New Yorkers and Massachusettes Bay. One was the first Italian immigrant in NY (or to North American Eng/dutch colonies). Otherwise, everyone started out in Virginia, including some French Huguenots (also unfortunate).

I think I've figured out why this dead story has been recycled: the left has realized the sex smear is still effective at undercutting a Republican's base support I wager they're leaning on the Alabama Special Election for evidince. And they're right: it does. They did the same thing in the Gov. election here in LA in 2015, where they brought out a long known sex scandal (one that didn't keep him from being reelected to the Senate). Take a look at the Gov. race results and the results for the other major statewide races and tell me the Dem didn't get crossover votes because some church ladies and white knights looked at him and thought "ew yucky!" This is why it's unfortunate that the base didn't turn out in 'Bama. We're going to be seeing a boatload of this stuff in the near future. Hopefully the left overplays their hand...

She is in the exact center of the work, where a human in a classical rendering would be expected. The warmth of the painting is supported by the red-orange saddle and blanket, the earth-tones in the stones of the buildings, and in the early morning/early evening highlights in the background. Moore was a chronic underperformer in literally all his elections - winning tight races while Rs in other races were cruising. And Vitter, I gather, had a very high "ick" factor while running against a legendary name who worked overtime to convince everyone he was a "moderate".

Also seem to recall Bibi saying outright or implying (?) during his controversial address to Congress during the Iran deal negotiations - the one Obama tried to stop - that Obama had spied on him/Israel and leaked it to Iran.

Their strategy for successful Republicans is to demonize them to the point that they are radioactive, no one wants to mention them because it is so polarizing.

Part of their larger approach that you don't have to run the better candidate, you just have to make sure the Republican candidate is so hated the voters see the Democrat as the only viable option.

212 Most interesting though is that I can only find one line with an actual immigrant (post revolution) and every other one goes back to the 1600s. Unfortunately I did find some yankees, ie New Yorkers and Massachusettes Bay. One was the first Italian immigrant in NY (or to North American Eng/dutch colonies). Otherwise, everyone started out in Virginia, including some French Huguenots (also unfortunate).

The Dems are going to play this card because it is, literally, all they have. That said, I think it's somewhat dubious to extrapolate from the AL senate race to anything national. Though I don't know much about it I could probably say the same with the LA GOV race.

Moore was a chronic underperformer in literally all his elections - winning tight races while Rs in other races were cruising. And Vitter, I gather, had a very high "ick" factor while running against a legendary name who worked overtime to convince everyone he was a "moderate".

Something to be looked out for, sure.
Posted by: DocJ at January 19, 2018 10:02 AM (NYS7S)

=================

Those are all good contrapoints. With Vitter: It didn't help he was running a very "nice" and "nonconfrontational" race as far as tone (he had a prickly image to put it mildly). He was also getting slagged left and right by the rest of the Repub field and basically got shanked by 2 of the main factions in the party at the time in the runoff: Jindal and his placeman in the race didn't endorse him or help him and the other main Repub actually endorsed JBE in exchange for a post in his admin. JBE had several months of the media kissing his ass and no real negative ads against him. BTW, JBE is not related to Edwin Edwards. Unfortunate, because he had the potential to torch the establishment in LA. All that said: the D.C. Madam stuff didn't keep him from being reelected to the Senate 2 years after the story broke, and it wasn't like the dems ran a moonbat IIRC.

This smear against Trump won't go anywhere b/c he hit back fast. It helps that Ms. Daniels pretty quickly denied it too: if it were true it would be in her book as she puts it."

It's more than just hitting back; Trump has hit on the strategy of intentionally outraging them every day, that's what he does with his tweets. He goes way out of his way to make sure that they stay enraged and shrieking, and guess what - once he got them to the point where they were enraged and shrieking every day, every normal person just tuned them out, because it turns into the same old blah blah blah on and on and on. So he neutralized their biggest weapon against. That's what people who think he shouldn't be so offensive with his tweets don't understand; this is one of his most powerful weapons.

In a way it reminds me of an old Jack Handy line: "Would we cut down so many trees if trees could scream? We probably would, if they screamed all the time and for no good reason."

The Jesuits, ugh. The Society of Jesus is an order with a long association for learning, teaching, and meddling in political affairs, all of which are well earned. They have founded excellent schools, advanced human knowledge, and got most of Christianity run out of Japan, among other things.

Given the nexus of academia and politics, they lean about how you'd expect. This is why the current Pope being a Jesuit led to some well-founded concerns, many of which have since been borne out.

The Jesuit order used to be distinguished that you would have had to spent hours simply meditating on every detail of Jesus' crucifixion for entry into that order. You basically needed to spend a day, reliving the Passion in your head, as vividly as you could.

That sounds like a good idea, in my mind. Results, a half-millennia later, are doubtful.

Not a mackerel snapper so much as a dabbler in history, back when religion and the state were intertwined in Europe the Jesuits were always suspected, based on good evidence, of being involved in political plots against heads of state. Elizabeth the first was a good example.

Using the sexual metaphor's makes the insult a little more colloquial and humorous, making it seem like bar room humor which can be laughed off. Not many people would be comfortable hearing what I really think, which is that leftists, democrats, and the media are a poison to our society and that their very existence threatens the very lives of our children, our grandchildren, and our society.

Somehow making fun of their manhood goes over a lot more easily than this does.

Last time I was an inhabitant of a cube, Monica Lewinski's dress was news. We joked about things at the office and in the plants, but it was an unwritten rule that politics and religion and social culture issues, like gay marriage, were never discussed.

Of course, back then, there were no topics like gay marriage, trannie rights, campus speech, or all of the other bullshit we have today.

If it is different today, and political speech is thrown around openly in offices, plant floors, job trailers, cube farms, meeting rooms, and more, then what happens to those that object or speak up?

411 Oddly, priests who are not in an order are called "secular priests" and aren't considered "religious." Diocesean priests are usually secular priests, but some churches can be staffed by the diocese using order priests. Those often tend to be more liberal churches depending on the order being used to staff it. For example, locally, there is a diocesean church staffed by the Oblates of St Francis DeSales. Every priest has to be attached to a bishop or a superior general, abbot, etc. somewhere.

Oh FFS - really? You might want to check it out before simply superseding them because, feelz. None of what happened in this instance even remotely meets any of canonical rules of the Church.

This is why I have temporarily suspended my communion with the Holy Church as has my family. If I wanted to be lectured to by a leftarded socialist boob who doesn't follow the law I could just turn on CNN or MSNBC - or perhaps just become a Dimocrat

423 The Lady in the painting cannot have her head up proudly, she's rendered as a classical female. Women must be depicted as demure, submissive or humble. They will never be looking at you square in the eye.

Also, a history painting will rarely be historically accurate. History painters aren't historians, no matter how much Benjamin West insisted. There will always be a generous helping of artistic licence. The message is primary, everything else takes a back seat.

This applies only to Traditionalism and Classicism. Modernism is a whole different animal with a completely different set of rules.

441 Well, you shouldn't confuse the eucharist with the men in the heirarchy of the Church.

In fact, that's the last thing you should do.

Thinking you're "in communion" with just people is thinking like a protestant or a collectivist. When receiving the Body of Christ in a state of Grace you're "in communion" with Christ and his bride, the Church, which is only imperfect in that she exists in time and accepts sinners so that they may receive grace through the sacraments to hope that will aid in their eternal salvation.

Imagine saying to Jesus on the cross, "yeah, no thanks dude, there's a guy in the temporal future masquerading as pope who's a shithead, so I reject You."

When did that happen?

It does seem that the lure to people who have aptitude and mental capabilities tends to draw them to 1) appreciate their abilities over all others, 2) congratulate themselves for having been put together that way.

450 414. more and more I'm hearing Catholics refer to Benedict as our Pope. Just this a.m. the priest mentioned him in the prayers of the faithful. It seems counterproductive to cut yourself off from the Eucharist and a vibrant faith community because of one mortal cleric. IMO it's like renouncing American citizenship because of Preezy Choom.

I read his parents went to CA at least once to visit, but did not have an address. Called, but the wife would not tell them where they lived.

Also would not let grandparents talk to grandchildren on the phone.

It's a tough call to sic CPS on your offspring. You basically need to be at the intellectual and emotional point of disowning them.

Dunno about CA, but in OH, any, even an anonymous tip, requires CPS to at least visit the house and eyeball the kids and living environment.

456 No, there's a difference between Diocesan priests
and priests who belong to an order. The former are the ones that run
churches.

Posted by: Biggs Darklighter at January 19, 2018 10:51 AM (mynhJ)

Yeah. Diocesan priests operate in a specific region (diocese). Priests in an order (Jesuits, Dominicans, Basilians, etc.) operate wherever. And, the chain of command is slightly different, as mentioned. Diocesan priests report to their bishop. Priests in an order report to their superior, who ultimately reports to El Papa.
Regarding marriage, I was taught that the sacrament is actually a public commitment to each other, the public, and the faithful (the 'church'), and that the actual requirements to 'make it happen' are the commitments made by the bride and groom. The priest is there simply to formally acknowledge the union publicly. The whole 'sacred ground' thing.....naah.
I went to Catholic school from grades 1-12 (run by Basilians, and I forget the nun's order - shame on me!), but I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express, so take my words knowing this.

461 415 Jesuits used to be known as Christ's marines. I joined a Jesuit parish when I reverted, and it was a mixed bag as far as the clergy. A couple of the priests were exemplary. I learned that the Order requires applicants to be intellectually strong and preferably have some professional experience in the world.

According to Article 7 in the Catholic Catechism, it is fitting that the matrimonial covenant between bride and groom occur within the context of a Eucharistic celebration, i.e. Mass.

that's a paraphrase but there is additional language referring to the advisability of having a priest bless the union.
