Actually I don't know if Klavan is awarding Trump just two cheers -- he might intend to award him all three.No person of importance on the right seeks to silence anyone on the left. The Left, on the other hand, is broadly committed to ostracizing, blacklisting, and even criminalizing right-wing speech. Enter President Donald Trump. He is a rude and crude person. He speaks like a Queens real estate guy on a construction site. And because he does not have good manners, he thoughtlessly breaks the rules with which the Left has sought to muzzle those who disagree with them. In this regard, I frequently compare Trump to Randle Patrick McMurphy, the loudmouthed, ill-mannered roustabout from Ken Kesey’s brilliant novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. McMurphy comes into an insane asylum controlled by a pleasant, smiling nightmare of a head nurse named Ratched. Nurse Ratched, while pretending to be the soul of motherly care, is actually a castrating, silencing tyrant. Her rules of good manners, supposedly fashioned for the benefit of all, are really a system of mental slavery. All of McMurphy’s salient character flaws suddenly become heroic in the context of her oppression. Only his belligerent ignorance of what constitutes good behavior can overturn the velvet strangulation of her rule. For Nurse Ratched, read Hillary Clinton, CNN, the New York Times, Yale University, Twitter, and Google/YouTube--all the tender ministers of polite silence and enforced dishonesty. Other people have pointed this out, but Trump is saying: We should pick immigrants according to our needs. The left is fighting this claiming that it is immoral to think about ourselves; we must think only of the immigrants' plight. But why are they in a "plight" at all? What would be immoral about just leaving them where they are now? Because, of course, they live in shitholes. That's what the left puts forth to change this argument from one of rational self-interest (pick immigrants and number of immigrants according to our own changing needs) to one of absolute moral imperative -- we must let them in because to leave them in their current countries would be cruel and inhuman. There's only one kind of place it would be cruel to leave someone -- that's right, a shithole. So they can choose between screaming that we are morally obligated to lift immigrants out of their shitholes, or they can scream that it's a travesty to call these countries shitholes, but they can't do both. Their entire spittle-flinging, tearing-eyed, red-faced moral meltdown relies foundationally on the idea that these people live in shitholes and only a monster would condemn someone to continue living in such states of abject shitholery. So it cannot be any kind of foul to acknowledge that.
Let's state the obvious. Some countries are shitholes. To claim that this is racist is racist. They are not shitholes because of the color of the populace but because of bad ideas, corrupt governance, false religion, and broken culture. Further, most of the problems in these countries are generated at the top. Plenty of rank-and-file immigrants from such ruined venues ultimately make good Americans--witness those who came from 1840s potato-famine Ireland, a shithole if ever there was one! It takes caution and skill to separate the good from the bad. For these very reasons, absurd immigration procedures like chain migration, lotteries, and unvetted entries are deeply destructive. They can lead to the sort of poor choices that create a Rotherham. Trump's suggestions--to vet immigrants for pro-American ideas and skills that will help our country--are smart and reasonable and would clearly make the system better if implemented. So, when it comes to the Great Shithole Controversy of 2018, my feeling is: I do not care, not even a little.

I had to look up the history of "shithole". It goes back the 1600s. Originally and up until the early 20th Century it was just used to mean the old Solo, one's exhaust port.
But in the early 20th, it began to take on the connotation we know and love, which is a stronger version of hellhole.
In the later 20th, it began to take on the figurative sense of "asshole" as in "Obama's a real asshole". In the old days, it had only the literal meaning of butthole.
And from what I was reading, Trump may actually said "shithouse", not "shithole". Ie, all these countries are a shithouse.
You can ponder any slight differences in meaning between those two. I don't know.

In all three cases, the shit-hole-ishness is 100% caused by the behavior and beliefs of the population. The physical places themselves are not only fine, they are all magically blessed with outstanding beauty, history and fertility. Klavan's claims that the badness only originates "at the top" is only true in a disingenuous way: Bad people rise to the top people society and culture enables and encourages that to happen. And the society and culture are created by...the people.
So, to be completely honest, there is a tinge of "racism" (wrong word, really, but we'll use it for now) in noting that these places are shitholes, because by noting that, Trump really and truly is pointing out that the people who live there created these shitholes, and that if those people come here, they will bring their shitholism with them, and make part of America into a shithole too.
But here's the thing: Trump is factually correct in noting this. We should just concede that.
But what's REALLY making the Left uncomfortable, and the reason for their freakout, is not that Trump is being "racist," but that his "racism" is obviously based on self-evident facts, and that his attitude is correct and true.
One might deem this meta-racism: Trumps isn't just being brutishly racist out of ignorance, but rather proving that racist attitudes have a solid basis in evidence. Which is worse, and more powerful, and more difficult to refute, than mere kneejerk bonehead racism.

Then the democrats started their 'social engineering' and used eminent domain to kick out home and business owners to put up housing projects...edifices which were ruined by their inhabitants within the first year of residency. My mom's family had to give up their (1 acre within city limits ) property/home and the entire neighborhood of similar properties was destroyed to make way for public high-rises. The mayor before Booker would pillaged that city so badly you'd think he was Hil and Bill on holiday in Haiti. Years ago when Booker first was elected, I had heard scuttlebutt that his private life would prevent him from reaching higher level of government, but apparently nothing comes out about it. He was and is part of the democrat machine and they protect their own. Nothing ever happens to corrupt politicians in NJ. They just destroy everything they touch and go off into the sunset with their millions of dollars nobody can ever explain how they acquired.

My father had an Italian deli in Newark, he took it over from his uncle who had it when Newark was nice. They contained the riots a flew blocks from him. The cops were shooting rioters and just throwing them down the sewers. Yeah he didn't last too many years after that. I don't think he ever got over seeing how bad that area became over the years.

And back when he was younger, this other guy just talked like a standard not-gay straight high school jock. Then the VERY DAY he "came out of the closet," his accent changed to that of a flamboyant bitch-queen.

malign the doctor. I do expect them to call for an independent doctor
to give PDT the same exams...after all, they'll say we should get a
second opinion on the health of someone as old and in the job of PDT.

Any bets on how long it takes for the media to find some "dirt" on the doctor who examined Trump?
He was pbho's doctor for 3 years. He knows.
Plus, looking at his career, he is a stellar doctor with two difficult specialties. First in his class a number of times. Diving and parachute qualified doctors are rare, even in the Navy. Esp. compared to flight surgeons.
He can handle the press, and I'm sure he does.
*hears snap of latex gloves*
FWIW, the Navy medical medical community has an absolutely inordinate interest in the prostate health of young, fit sailors. He'll do just fine.
