That sounds a bit different than asking them to take pro-active action. Holding someone that they pick up on a state level offense who is wanted under a federal indictment until the feds can pick them does not seem to be the same as making them go search for someone.

Again, this is the same issue was Printz v US.
When the Brady Act was first passed, federal law required local police to perform the background checks for gun purchases until the federal system was set up. A sheriff sued, saying he works for the state and is not a federal employee and has no obligation to do background checks for them.
And the supreme court agreed. He could not be commandeered to perform a federal firearms background check, even if he was theoretically "aiding and abetting" felons to purchase guns by not running background checks.
And again, this decision was written by Scalia.

Well they are doing that. They're using ICE. The problem is that some guy will get picked up in San Francisco for driving on a suspended license or whatever. San Fran Police will run his name and/or fingerprints through NCIC and see no active warrants except an ICE detainer.
They then just ignore the detainer and don't tell ICE that they have the guy.
If ICE just happened to showed up, the police would not stop ICE from taking the guy in to custody, they just make no affirmative effort to let ICE know when they have an illegal in custody or know where an illegal is.

I've said for a while if you could get some sort of legal mechanism that let's the IRS go after employers of illegal aliens (since everyone of them is committing either tax fraud and/or identity theft) that would probably solve 80% of the problem overnight.

I know your position on this but I don't think they are looking to commandeer anything. They are simply asking them to cooperate with federal authorities.
And commandeer would seem to indicate that they aren't getting things in return. That's exactly what the states are whining about now that the feds are threatening to withhold federal funding those same states receive for law enforcement.
They can't have it both ways, they can't accept federal funds to perform their local law enforcement duties and then threaten to sue when the feds say they will withhold funds if the states won't cooperate with federal law.

For some unknown reason the judge sent the jury out and then told them that they weren't allowed to base their verdict on the clear admission by the defendant or the fact that he was happy about killing the cops and said that he would do it again. WTFFF? Also, the illegal said that there was no reason for the trial and that he wanted to plead to the charge .. but the lowlife judge wouldn't allow that, either. If there is any reason or logic in the judge's insane actions I can't see it. This is why people hate lawyers and judges. Because they're retarded assholes who seem to think the\ir job is just to screw society over.

There is also a long line of case law saying that federal funds can't be withheld to compel states to do things unless that funding can be closely tied to what they're trying to compel (Im blanking on the name of the case, but when Reagan tied highway funding to raising the drinking age to 21, the court said 'ehh, ok on this one, but we're going to rule on this verrrry narrowly')

Well they are doing that. They're using ICE. The problem is that some guy will get picked up in San Francisco for driving on a suspended license or whatever. San Fran Police will run his name and/or fingerprints through NCIC and see no active warrants except an ICE detainer.
They then just ignore the detainer and don't tell ICE that they have the guy.
If ICE just happened to showed up, the police would not stop ICE from taking the guy in to custody, they just make no affirmative effort to let ICE know when they have an illegal in custody or know where an illegal is.

Of course they CAN help and almost always do cooperate with federal officials and hold people based on both federal and out-of-state warrants.
The legal question is can the federal government compel cooperation if the state (or local) government does not want to cooperate?

The broader war to restore rule of law in immigration demands this. This is part of my *other* tick list of actions the administration should have launched immediately (they require no new legislation).
Targeted crackdown on large, known users of illegal labor. Sit-down with DHS; they get the ultimatum to go illegal-free by a date certain, help in getting there (we want minimal economic disruption on our path to restored rule of law), and the hammer held over them if they don't play along.
The (long overdue) DOJ request for immediate SCOTUS action to vacate a lower court's interference with DACA matters is interesting. Not sure it's encouraging.
The legal guild/glorified clerks that make up most of the profession dealing with the judiciary are utterly incapable of imagining there being checks and balances in that realm. The judiciary has expanded its power, shredded the constitution, even its own rules and ethics, and the whole society has submitted to their increasingly obnoxious and perverse tyranny.
Long past time to start popping this authoritarian bubble. DOJ should have included very clear threatening language in their request for expedited treatment: unless we get quick and total reversal of the lower court's lawless sabotage, we will not feel bound to obey the judiciary's capricious orders.
I'm pretty sure non-legal types generally have no idea how outrageous and unconstitutional the current situation is. Even though they abhor the outcomes. Courts have brazenly usurped executive and legislative power, and beclowned themselves with nonsensical Fuhrerbefehl-like directives based on nothing whatsoever.
Every bit of progress Trump makes against the national degradation can/will be vaporized in the blink of an eye if the constitution is not restored, and the judiciary reduced to its minor and subordinate role.

No, its whether or not local law enforcement has a legal duty to affirmative reach out to ICE and/or hold someone for ICE.
in Printz, just running a background check on someone trying to purchase a firearm was considered commandeering local resources. I guarantee that the court will find that so is holding someone in a state jail for 48 hours while they wait for ICE and/or setting up a system whereby they notify ICE of illegals in their jail will also be considered commandeering.
Running a background check takes a lot less time, money and and effort than feeding and housing someone, and requires about the same amount of effort as notifying ICE they have someone in their jail.
Again, I'm not saying I agree with this, just that this is what the law is and has been for a long time and that theres not a whole lot the federal govt can do to compel these cities to help them short of getting creative with withholding federal funding, which is its own legal minefield.

What about that case where cali went out and extradicted an illegal, just so that they could save him from ICE.

I just picked Printz since it was a recent decision, there are dozens of other decisions on the same topic going back centuries. Steven's dissent in that case is basically the argument people are making right now -- that the federal government can force cooperation from local law enforcement if they need help in implementing federal law.
That's a dissent though, and is not law.
And thank god its not, because do we really want our local police to be agents of the federal government?
it's something the left has been pushing for forever, and if they're smart, they will be silently rooting for Trump to win on this one.

1) Supreme Court decisions trump federal law, so to the extent this law requires state law enforcement to turn over illegals to the feds, it would be unconstitutional;
and
b) I don't read that as requiring someone to affirmatively turn every illegal they ever meet in their life in to federal authorities or face a felony, and if that IS what the law says, that will also most likely be found unconstitutional.

Eh, maybe. But the government in the Arizona case stood on Article VI, and could very well make the same argument here. They are seeking to actively thwart enforcement of laws promulgated under Article I Section 8. And making no secret of it. Under that, the President could conceivably declare them in insurrection against the government, and no Hawaiian judge could say sh*t.

Possibly. But the underlying strength of this market is the actual performance of corporations, earnings and profits and not silly things like page clicks during the dotcom run up.
The tax cuts are a built in additional profit for many companies on top of their actual performance. I'm not expecting a big correction anytime soon.

Question - this issue of sanctuary cities seems to involve a slightly different context than what you are talking about.
You seem to be referencing cases involving domestic crime and law enforcement.
What if a state knowingly used its powers to, say, let in foreign spies or saboteurs and release them without notifying the Federal government? It seems they have a positive duty in that case to proactively notify the government.
It doesn't seem in such a case "state sovereignty" comes into play.
Someone here illegally is violating our national boundary, and all others, whether they be ordinary citizens, state political officials or state law enforcement officials have a duty to make such a violator known.
You seem to think this duty somehow is cancelled by overlapping domains between state and federal. But here there are no overlapping domains. Just like a state cannot declare war on another country (that is purely in the Federal domain), it does not have the right to knowingly aid and abet people who are here illegally, even in a passive way by simply releasing them and not notifying the Feds.

I'm going to go ahead and say it won't happen. Studio's legal department probably just had a collective cardiac event over the news and are now on the phone with the executives asking if they are allergic to money. Because whatever they have now or would make on this would be all shovelled out the door settling lawsuits.

But that was the dotcom boom and bust. I was raising money from equity funds during that time and it was madness. 25 year old venture capitalists fresh out of B school only wanting to talk about page clicks and "sticky eyeballs" instead of boring things like earning and profits.
The fundamentals of this market are different. It will correct at some point but I don't think it is anytime soon and I'd be shocked, and much poorer, if it was anywhere near as deep.

I think you are being deliberately obtuse. That is not the issue. The issue is can California etc. declare themselves to be sanctuary states in defiance of Federal Law. And that is an open/shut, slam dunk, NO they can't. Doing what they are doing is a violation of Federal Law. Arrest the perps, give them a first class fair trial, and send them to prison because they are guilty. Do this, or you have a state of Anarchy because criminal violating the law are just criminals - governments ignoring and violating the law is the definition of Anarchy.
