Some Afternoon Filler

Steven Seagal accused of a 1993 rape.

Trey Gowdy, of all take and no action fame steps down from House Ethics Committee.

Oh that pesky United Nations. Migration for everyone. Personally, when these pricks start putting Hud Housing with Abdul from Syria next door to them, then we can discuss this.

With all the faux rage this week, Ben Domenech of The Federalist lays out the case that Haiti is a shithole.

Yesterday I was speaking with a NeverTrumper. Hell, I believe he even voted for Hillary. He asked me if I had heard Trump's comments about Shitholes. I answered in the affirmative. He then proceeded to say, "It wasn't presidential but that is what everybody thinks about those countries." Did Trump even say the shithole word?

24 Far too many people have the vapors (or feign getting the vapors) over words instead of holding people accountable for their actions.

Political pundits, journalists, politicians, and academics are some of the worst of these as they use policing language to attempt to force discourse in their preferred direction.

For me, does the word used have descriptive value and does it accurately reflect reality in such a way that it communicates the desired message to others. That is how I judge language use.

Regarding immigration and sh1thole countries, the Progressives are back to the tactic of pushing the slogan on the Statue of Liberty: Give us your poor, etc.

PDT should call their bluff and say: OK, from now on we'll only admit dirt poor, uneducated, sick people over age 50, from the 20 lowest GDP nations. After all, they need the most help, don't they? Captain Whitebread- (12/19/17) I've had to go to the local hospital ER a couple of times since heart surgery because I was concerned I might be having more heart trouble. I didn't, but since I didn't have insurance, the bill was huge. I tried paying a little every month, but sometimes I missed because money is really tight.
Monday, I was served with a court summons. The collection agency working for the hospital is taking me to court. I owe $4500. I have no way of paying in full. I have to appear in court with the next 35 days.
All I am asking from the Horde is prayers that a workable solution might be found. I am not asking for money; everyone has done more than enough after my heart surgery and when I almost had my electricity cut off a couple of years ago. I believe that with enough prayer, a way will reveal itself. At this time, I don't know what it is. But I believe there is one.

Ladyl- (12/20/17) My dad is back on Hopice and isn't doing great.

Anonymous- (12/19/17) ...Her family has to leave the R.V. park because her husband lost his job two months ago. He has a job prospect in Texas so he is going after it. There are 7 of them living in a 16 ft. trailer but the children are always clean and happy. She has been driving for Uber just to keep food on the table. She's scared about moving, trying to be normal for the kids, doesn't know what will happen if this job prospect doesn't work out. She's got such a good heart and is trying so hard, right now she feels a little desperate and tired.
Please pray for her and her family. I know how much it helps.

Anonymous- (12/22/17) A dear friend who survived cancer--twice--died unexpectedly Thursday night. Not from cancer. He was one of the kindest, sweetest people I've known. His widow is in shock, and sitting in their house looking at the tree they decorated together, and their gifts to each other under it.

Patrick from Ohio- (12/24/17) Can you add my Sister In Law Denise she suffers from LUPUS like symptoms and nothing is really working.

JQ- (12/26/17) 'Twas an otherwise Merry Christmas, because it might be Dad's last, as he has advanced cancer. Dad (80s) is ambulatory but slowing down...
The reality of Dad's situation hit hard tonight after I got home and my heart is breaking.
Prayers welcome, if you would please.
Thanks, Merry Christmas, and God bless you all.

Jim, Sunk New Dawn- (12/26/17) From a rather chilly Orlando, FL. 89 y/o Step Mom in deteriorating health. One way trip, and a contest as to what gets her first. Water around enlarged heart, or OldTimers.
Looks like I'll have to make a hasty long term TDY to Orlando, for however long time is left.

DaninMN- (1/8/18 ) Daughter came home from NICU and met her 19 Month old Sister.

mpfs- (1/1/18 ) Mom was taken by ambulance yesterday afternoon to the hospital. Possible stroke. When they took her sugar last night it was... 759. Even the neurologist did a double take.

Catman- (1/2/18 ) My dad died tonight.... Please prayers.

Ron- (1/2/18 ) Please pray for the family of Zack Parrish, the Douglas County Sheriff's
Deputy who was slaughtered in an ambush in Highlands Ranch, CO on December
30. He was a true follower of Jesus Christ. Zack was 29. Please pray for his
wife Gracie and the two little daughters he left.

rocketeer67- (1/2/18 ) Praying for strength to get through a totally unexpected, unforeseen and unwanted divorce from my wife of 20 years. Praying for understanding as to why she has asked for it. Prayers that her eyes would be opened to the hurt that this is causing everyone around her, even if we're all trying to accept it (with varying degrees of sucess moment by moment) with dignity, grace, and love. Most importantly, prayers for our young children, who while appearing to be bearing it better than expected are clearly (at least to me) not themselves.

AllenG- (1/9/18 ) None of my normal pith tonight. I desperately covet the prayers of the Horde.
The 9 yr old son of one of my old HS/Church youth group friends wouldn't wake up this morning. They took him to the ER and an MRI found a mass in his brain. A first surgery to remove it was only partially successful, he still hasn't woken up, and he's been back I surgery for the lady couple of hours.
His name is Brody Nelson. I grew up with his mom, Courtney. They and their family could really use a miracle right about now...

Gabe- (1/9/18 ) I have a couple of good friends, Patrick Porter and Barbie Turner who are both battling cancer. A petition to the almighty by the horde would be huge IMO.

Commander Cobra- (1/9/18 ) Prayers for active Service Members and those who have served.

sulla- (1/9/18 ) I'd ask to have my mother and sister-in-law added. My mother broke her shoulder this week, and my sister-in-law is recovering from a liver/kidney transplant.

Please contact me through email, homemadegravy71 at the hooya, as I cannot be around for many of the posts in most threads. Feel free to copy and paste others' prayer requests and send them to me.

If I can post in your "voice", I'd like it better. It personalizes the prayer, instead of my shorthand.

I'd also like to pray for the people who aren't on this list. For those who don't choose to publicize their trials and maladies, I understand. You won't suffer in silence. A candle will be lit in your name.

Please remember the Prayer of St. Francis:

41 Re so called pundits--you can't really begin to estimate until primary season is over. Right now, turnout is what matters in mid-term elections which really reflect which party will be better at turning out its base.

There is no wave of outrage right now like 2010 (Obamacare, Porkulus) or 2006 (Iraq War) nor a really bad recession (1982), and there is a downside risk for Dems if the spying on political opponents/ collusion gate crashes like the Hindenburg on the Dems coupled with a hot economy which tends to cause fence voters to tune out. DACA/comprehensive immigration reform had the potential to demoralize the Rep. base but thanks to "ahem" comments this week, appears relatively unlikely. Tax cuts will probably work for the Reps. except possibly in silk stocking Rep. districts in blue states.

There was an article asking 'What happened to Steven Seagal' and I thought he just got fat, but apparently he angered someone and all his movies went right to DVD with no promotion or distribution.

In a similar vein, is Vin Diesel still doing 'Fast and Furious?' Must be number twenty-five or so by now. No promotion, right to DVD?

Why can't conservative storylines do the same thing; low budget, quality acting and story development, and go right to DVD and promote the things - skip theater distribution.

Just another reason to visit the Caribbean instead of Hawaii. The one thing I noticed about that Honolulu newspaper is the difference between their print version and their internet version. A lot of their stories they keep off the 'net.

Almost as if they're hiding something. I suspect it's the manic depression of both hating tourists and needing them. They'll let the 'locals' read the hate while keeping it from being distributed too widely.

I think Trump likes the adversarial media. He uses it to his advantage by constantly demonstrating that they are dishonest and hysterical and that his actions are actually quite sane and logical.

He's been in the public eye all his life and he knows how to play the media like teasing a kitty with a laser pointer. In that respect he has many pets.

Third World = Hellhole = Shithole, same meaning. FFS, we have temporary refugees that have been here for 20 years.

Durbin went right to the press to have Trump declared a racist. He had to know that this would blow up the negotiations, and I'd bet it was with Schumer's approval. The fight will be in the Senate, because of the need for 60 votes.

Schumer was in a dilemma: leave the Dreamers in limbo, or give Trump his wall. So Schumer is instead knocking over the 9-D chess board by blowing up the negotiations and forcing a government shut-down.

So, on one hand, I could cynically make a lot of money, and better yet drain that money from liberal pockets, by mass-producing such bumperstickers and selling them to lefties, a skill I'm goof at.

But on the other hand, this cynical monkey-making scheme will cause the mass promulgation of anti-America and anti-Trump sentiment.

So: Should I go for it, and facilitate a big cash transfer from left to right (i.e. to my pocket)? Or in so doing would I be poisoning the political environment and the "visual commons" by mass-producing toxic memes?

Old fashioned missionary work involved raising money, going to a place where people need help, building roads and schools and hospitals. Unfortunately, that all requires time, and money and effort and that is just too tiring for the modern neo-missionary. Instead, they move the people to a place where the roads and school and hospitals already exist then someone else has to expend the effort and the money to take care of them.

And of course, the neo-missionary gets the credit for someone else's effort, time and money.

317 Expect a government shutdown. Schumer hasn't thought this through.

Obama and Clinton made their government shut-downs painful for Americans, and gave fed workers a paid holiday.

Trump can make a shut-down relatively painless for most Americans, and in effect furlough many fed workers without pay, and thereby win the stand-off. This can have significant long-term effects.

Easy. Use special ink for "Trump's". Ink that will fade away to nothingness after a few weeks' exposure to sunlight. So wording changes to "America is the Shithole", which is standard anti-American cant beloved of leftists everywhere, and accurately serves to brand the owner of the car as a Leftard.

327 I honestly wonder why the whole "government shutdown" thing sends people into such a tizzy. First off it isn't really a shutdown. Second, the only "vital" government services people need or access on any regular basis are provided at the state, county and local level - firemen, police, water, sewer, etc.

I suspect one reason the Dems keep pounding the "sh*thole" story is because they want to turn evangelicals and Mormons away from Trump. In that context the story isn't immigration or Haiti or racism but Trump's mere usage of profanity. Unfortunately, some people will turn away from a politician for that alone. Yes, such people are fewer in number than there used to be, but the Dems can hope to peel a percentage or two away by doing this.

Trump could've used potty language about tax cuts or the space program or the Navy, doesn't matter, the Dems would still try to leverage Trump's language to split a few social conservatives from him, and they're hoping makes those people stay home next November. Like Alabamians staying home instead of voting for Roy Moore.

area, the rest of the world has still stuck to using Eurotrash,
party-oriented parliamentary systems that have no permanent executive
branch and not even an attempted independent judiciary.

The US has essentially stood alone in our governmental architecture
for almost 250 years. The world prefers to copy the governments of
losers. Over and over and over.

How does he know it wasn't "presidential". The sh*thole comment, if it was even made at all, was made in a PRIVATE meeting. In private. Not at a press conference, not at a rally, not in the SOTU address, not even in a tweet. Those are "presidential" contexts. What POTUS says in private doesn't have to rise to the same standard of "presidential" language. I'd bet every president ever has used obscene language in private conversation at the White House.

Sure ... but the others have had the benefit of 200 years of seeing ours at work. It's not as if they have to come up with any original ideas (and they don't, either way) but only to pick what sort of governmental architecture to design (when a new country is born - and so many have arisen over the past 40 years, not to mention the amazing amount of new countries formed over the past 100 years).

They even have the advantage over us of being able to see the mistakes that we have made over the years and tweaking our system (or the implementation) to take those into account. But none of them ever have. Shit, France is into its 5th republic, already, and they are just finally coming around to the idea of a semi-permanent executive ...

Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at January 14, 2018 01:52 PM (8gDQu)

The American system was originally conceived as a non-party system based on limited government and general acceptance of basic principles of individual freedom.

Th parliamentary system is based on an assumption of party factionalism, which is the history of most other countries, and now is the condition in the US too.

Euro and other countries are also based on the concept of an immutable, everlasting "state". The entire system of government may change, but the "state" endures.

In the last 100 years, government systems and borders have changed repeatedly in Central/Eastern Europe. But many of the same laws stay on the books, and the "state" continues, under different political systems and management.

If I recall correctly, if Federal workers are furloughed for a longer period (either 30 or 45 days, I don't recall) the position is considered vacant.

I hope Trump is prepared for a long game-a long enough shutdown would allow for a lot of swamp draining (not you, hopefully). However, the cries and wails from the public employee unions would put serious pressure on the Dems to compromise bigly before that happened. Of course, the Hawaiian judge would emerge from his storm sewer to order everyone around.

In many schools in California you are not even allowed to wear any clothing that displays the American flag. Why? Because the school administrators deem that it will be offensive to all of the Mexicans attending there. Any kid wearing anything patriotic would get beaten up by them.

The Mexicans there hate this country. They love Mother Mexico and are (claim?) to be extremely proud of her. And yet, here they are. Why, for goodness' sake? Do they think their parents made a mistake in inflicting them upon us? 459 Posted by: Miklos Molnar at January 14, 2018 02:06 PM (zCyNd)

Yes.

And the main reason for this is that the European countries had permanent executive branches - the royals - which they had to take power from in dribs and drabs. That's why they have no permanent executive or separation of powers, because they had to fashion their governmental architecture through the legislature slowly assuming more and more powers from the permanent executive - which is why the European executive branches are ephemeral, wholly-owned subsidiaries of their legislatures rather than independent branches. They can't even form an ephemeral executive branch without full control of the legislature, as you well know.

But that development of the parliaments taking over the Kings' powers was hundreds of years ago (and the French have no excuse, as usual, given how anti-Royal their insane revolution was) and not only have they not changed anything in the face of evidence of a much better system but the new countries that have formed over the years have taken on that old ad-hoc system ... because that is what they're used to, I guess.

And the fact that their systems are party-oriented (while the party is not even a Constitutional element in the US) dictates the inherent collectivism in their systems. Even if the peoples wanted individualism they couldn't really support it with their collectivist governments - and, frankly, the idea doesn't even occur to most of them, anyway.

462 Actually Grump the "countries we conquer" have all had a history of parliamentary systems, or a semi-history thereof in that their long-time colonial masters had them. Of course none have had legacies of systems like ours, since we are unique in that regard (so, a tautology).

And "calling" the mid-terms at this point is simply silly, of course. If the administration can somehow get the congressional GOP to engage in politics again, have "big" votes, differentiate with the opposition, and the economy continues as at present ...... I'm feeling fine. There's nothing new to report. The only side effect I've noticed so far is that the Keytruda seems to have made my psoriasis worse. The doctor says that's a known side effect, since it's boosting my immune system and psoriasis is an autoimmune disease. It's unsightly, but apart from that it doesn't really bother me. I have some cream to put on it that doesn't seem to do much.

I've had three treatments so far, and each time they check my weight and do a blood test. My weight has been holding steady and nobody has said anything about the blood work. The next treatment is on Thursday and I will ask the doctor if he has seen anything that concerns him.

476 Miklos, I hunger for a "shut down" theater festival, in the hope that the administration would use it, as you describe. In fact, the admin. would have many delicious options in a "shut down".

Some were discussed during the kabuki shut down drama of recent years, but of course the roles were reversed and the then-admin. did the opposite - pretended nothing could happen without a CR (there are no longer actual appropriations bills) enacted.

There are many options to torture exactly the right people, all the while proving to the public how much federal spending is nearly irrelevant to their lives. Depending on the time of year/point in the fiscal cycle, there's plenty of $$ to pay true "uncontrollables" (debt service, etc.), while using discretion to shut down, slim down, etc. other functions.

And the WH and OMB would have complete control of what happens (though I would welcome the ludicrous additional lawless rebellion of a court in this matter, on the slight chance it *might* begin to wake the legal guild and many others that restoring the constitutional system is an emergency, not a boring seminar topic.

498 I have lived near what I assume to be refugee housing, and I have seen how (not) well they assimilated. Usually at the local pool, where the kids were feral and ignored by their moms, who were instead socializing with their fellow moms covered head to toe. Same thing at the nearby Walmart. Familes avoid those times because it's no fun to be splashed, screamed at and made to feel unwelcome.

And then there are the Somalis in a neighborhood next to where a friend lived (himself on an new development catering to young families) - they were busy stealing everything that was not nailed down, whether it was porch or backyard furniture, anything they could find in an open garage (including a running care), etc..

A lot of the CO city and state parks near cities have become the weekend backyard bbq/party sites for new Americans from the south. They get there right when the park opens, claim all of the park benches and installed grills, spread out blankets, speakers, and spend the entire day - from open/close - in those spots. This means if you want to have a hike and/or a picnic you are SOL; no space for you to sit down. Those tables/grills are meant to be shared by people visiting throughout the day, but they are instead 'owned' by these squatters.

Yeah, about that version of the American dream: it's called stealing everything you can from America, whether it's making a communal area uninhabitable for the locals or grabbing and occupying all you can get.

502 "S**thole specialist" was a term I think used by PJ O'Rourke for journalists who covered Third World/conflict countries, in one of his hilarious essays of the early 90s. It was a common term also used by people who regularly travelled to/worked in such countries, when I was one of those people.

In not a single case in my experience was there any racism or bigotry involved - which is logical, since everyone involved was a volunteer and was engaged in trying to improve the situation. Antipathy was reserved for the bad guys in each situation, and sometimes for the intractable, infuriating cultural or system flaws that made things so awful for so many.

But, as with everything else involving the US or the few other active civilized countries, "racism" had nothing to do with it. The racism and tribalism and clan structure of the subject countries are off the charts, of course - racism and its cousins are the main challenge we face in trying to help others or shape things to our benefit.

If you're a farmer who hears about a new cultivar and travels abroad to examine it and does not like its characteristics in the end, he'd be a fool if he brought them back to his farm and planted them anyway.

Before we let any in (not that we are obliged to), we should at least demand some sort of proof that they are reformable. Maybe no more honor killings or other types of human rights violations. Maybe some sign that they are imbibing our conventions and can build basic things on their own, like wells, roads, etc.

So our quest for decent Catholic Church payed off this morning. Found
another one to add to the rotation. Church was built in 1837 ans
associated with my husband's high school. Not quite a high mass but
close. Cannot remember the last time I received communion kneeling at
the altar rail. Next week we'll try the one with the Latin mass. Now
have 3 on our list that do not send me into an anti-sjw rage.
Forgot. One of the prayers was for an end to contraception, abortion and euthanasia. Haven't heard that one in a long time.

Good to hear.
My Lutheran Church Missouri Synod congregation (in Cook County but outside Chicago) that has endured years of troubles has finally gotten a pastor that will stick to Scripture. He gave a sermon today where the primary point was Paul's "No it doesn't make a bit of difference what the rest of the world says, your body belongs to God and you should use it appropriately" letter to the Corinthians. Great stuff.

561 It is difficult to imagine that the "gang" that brought the "compromise deal" on DACA to the WH were in the least bit serious - i.e. that they expected their package to be even the starting point.

Kind of pointless to attempt to mind-read on this stuff, as usual, so only shop-worn conventional assumptions can be applied.

Dems - being completely flat-footed at the moment, facing a roaring economy, likely Mega-Scandal armageddon that will essentially engulf their "side" in gross political terms, and no issues with traction outside the blue districts/states - "need the issue" on which to campaign. So who out there wants to tell me how broad, deep, and potent DACA is as a campaign issue to get traction outside your crazy 40% hard-core base? Thought so.

Flake is history. Graham - who the F knows what he thinks he's doing.

Other, defensive consideration for Dems is to avoid the actual politics of the issue - i.e., a trade-off between some kind of DACA relief and border security, parts of RAISE, etc. They must figure getting DACA will not help as much as caving to (the popular and inevitable) border security and real immigration reform will hurt them, with their peeps.

562 Before we let any in (not that we are obliged to), we should at least demand some sort of proof that they are reformable. Maybe no more honor killings or other types of human rights violations. Maybe some sign that they are imbibing our conventions and can build basic things on their own, like wells, roads, etc.
Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at January 14, 2018 02:57 PM (/qEW2)

Let's go even more basic than that. Lot's of people left and right will tell you America is not the world's policeman. Well, we're not the world's Fairy Godmother either.

What is the purpose of Immigration, specifically what is the goal of our immigration policy? Is it to run a worldwide lottery, because those people are oppressed and darn it, it feels good to help? Or is it to bring in people who can succeed and contribute to a pluralistic, modern society? And it's a unique modern society at that.

The current policy was written to bring poor brown people to America because Diversity! And once one family member is in the door, fifty more follow. We need a policy that pays no attention to race, Moldova, Morocco, Malaysia or Malawi shouldn't matter. Can you read? Do you have a skill or skills that will allow you to support yourself? Sustenance farming is not a marketable skill.

We are turning out tens of thousands of non high school graduates every year domestically, we don't have enough low skill jobs for those people to support themselves, we cannot import more people who are unlikely to support themselves.

It's our immigration policy for our country and it should serve our interests, not be some grand gesture of noblesse oblige.

To be brutally honest, the South has a couple of hundred years of Natural Selection because of that sin our country was involved in. It was what it was and natural selection combined with the buying, selling, and importing humans for physical labor in the fields played a part.

584 Bilwis, though want to add the niggling point that nationality is not race - not conceptually, not legally, not technically.

Conflating these things - or worse - is at the heart of the vile race-baiting hysteria that has been going on for years, and has only ramped up with the advent of Trump, the first candidate/president in a generation or more who sounded serious and responsible about immigration policy.

It wouldn't hurt, of course, if there were surrogates to hammer home the points that Trump's effective but simplified communications style does not address - such as this one. That's why I shake my head when people make the somewhat tired references to "he fights!". Yes he does, which is critical, but his *side* doesn't fight very effectively, in terms of connecting with the (bare?) majority of common sense Americans on certain topics. Leaving him/us much more vulnerable to the vile race-baiting crap that is the staple of the Dems/media/self-hating insane GOP.

"Nationality is not race. Religion is not race. Immigration is always defined by national origin. Passports are nationality, not race. Race-baiting liars among Democrats and the Fake News media are a disgrace. Sad!"

And FFS, some surrogates to go out and hammer home these inarguable points in detail, relentlessly. I think (still) the bulk of the public gets this or quickly gets it when it is explained.

Eliminating the indefensbile and noxious impact of public employee unions (some of which may be happening, even outside WI) strikes at the (remaining) foundation of the Dems, electorally. Savaging the race-baiting and racism of the Dems, the press, and the wind-up toy "civil rights icon" vermin would be another blow. One that would have moral as well as electoral merit.

Compare what Nunes has accomplished this year, even while under the bogus ethics' complaint, as to anything Gowdy has done on Oversight in the same time frame.

What would you have had Gowdy do, shoot someone?

Nunes has accomplished more because he is working with a Republican administration that includes a Republican DOJ that actually hands over documents and witnesses instead of hiding them as the Obama administration did for 8 years including on Benghazi and now we know Uranium One where not only were documents hidden and entire FBI investigation including a confidential witness was hidden from Congress.

In the spring, Comey admitted that they didn't even tell Congress about the investigation into the the Trump administration before the election because it was too "sensitive" to disclose. Never mind that little thing called the law.

I don't know why some people have a hard time with the idea that all Congress can do is investigate, they can't charge anyone with anything, that is the job of the DOJ, and when evidence is hidden from them they are guaranteed not to find things and when the DOJ refuses to prosecute nothing happens. And that is on the DOJ not Congress.

606 I take it generally Presidents when their pole numbers are down mid term lose congressional seats, but to me their pole numbers are weighted leftward. And if nothing else things are getting real between Republicans and Democrats. If someone got their heads out of their ass and started some serious indictments showing the corruption of Barak's administrative it would go a long way of ending that hope of them taking over.

607 Bertram many - including "dreamers" have been/are being deported.

The 7-11 audit last week was an encouraging sign. I understand how long it took to get ready for D-Day, but we are at the point where my broad-front offensive should start to be visible.

* Sit-downs with large known illegal labor abusers (meat-packing, etc) where an ultimatum, time-line, and help are presented - zero illegal labor within a reasonably short time-frame the goal. More "audits" like the 7-11 one.

* Strict reciprocity with "sanctuary" lawless jurisdictions - drastically reduced law enforcement cooperation on the lawless one's priority activities that rely on federal help.

* Prosecutions of local/state officials in civil rights and harboring illegals cases.

* Menace the "dreamers" and everyone else, further to change the water temperature, with announcements that "enforcement priorities" are evolving in response to conditions.

Won't happen. We know who would win at the beginning of the year when it counts. If it did....

More recruits will further flock and stay at home to play at smaller southern schools like App State, UCF, Houston, South Florida, Memphis, SMU, and even lesser southern ACC schools and SEC schools.. Which is already occurring. Granted the skill players used to trend towards the Pac-12 but even that is breaking down.

The. BiG10 relies on muh tradition much like NeverTrumpets and #YruCons rely on muh principles. It doesn't take long to become exposed.

The death was ruled a suicide. Eberwein was 50 and reportedly told

Well first the OIG investigation has already contributed to many people losing their jobs and significant information being exposed. The Strzok/Page texts messages for example came from the OIG not Congress and both of them have lost their jobs already along with a dozen or so others.

And yes, I do think that Sessions will start to hand out indictments when the time is right and I have no idea why anyone would think otherwise. He just indicted the trucking company owners on charges related to Uranium One and I have no doubt there will be more.

And Sessions was a long time critic of the DOJ and how they handled the Hillary email investigation in the Senate long before he became AG. He is recused from the Mueller investigation and that's it. He is not recused from indicting anyone for other issues Russia related or not.

620 598 I won't say the (D)s *can't* take the House, but I don't see how right now. They're catering to their batsh*t crazy base, and I'm not sure that is a winning strategy.

R's took 63, iirc, seats in 2010 from an energized base. D's only need to take less than 25. And, that crazy base is definitely going to be voting. If you look at any of their sites, they are already working on the GOTV. And, considering, based on a report I read last week, Mueller took the GOTV data base that Kushner helped create for Trump (supposedly looking for those Russians, but who believes that bs,) that bit of knowledge is going to be possessed by the D's before the election. Throw in the shadow-banning on Twitter, the negative "help" on Google and the behavior of FB and it looks like a perfect storm, unfortunately.

I truly hope people work to keep their R reps. I don't like mine much, but I certainly am.

625 Did anyone bother to read the Ben Domenech article past the headline and first two paragraphs?
He is campaigning for more migrants from shitholes to be admitted to the US.
His argument is that Haiti is indeed a shithole and that is why we need to let the Haitians come here to live.
This is exactly the liberal Progressive position except instead of calling failed fourth world countries "shitholes", liberals call them "underprivileged" or some other meaningless, benign descriptor.
Does he not realize that the reason Haiti is a shithole is because Haitians live there?
Then to bolster his argument he includes some flowery words from Calvin Coolidge about our "common humanity" or some such drivel. Obama the Gay Muslim Spy used to drone on endlessly about "shared universal values" as a means to sell open borders and excuse Islamic terror and atrocities.
Anyone who talks about universal human values is either a naive idiot or my enemy, or both.
Domenech sounds like another squishy cuck to me.

627 Hillary could absolutely be prosecuted. In fact, with the extent of the flagrant felonies committed clearly with her consent or at her command, which were clumsy and outrageous, the absurdity of her *not* being prosecuted will become more glaring with every plea deal a subordinate makes.

An AG (and deputy AG) who are more than time-serving clerks would recognize how critical it is that no one be outside the prosecutor's net on this.

The deterrent/restorative value, and of course the justice, of any outcome that provides immunity for the principals will be diminished to the point of edging into negative territory.

JackStraw, I think you are right. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, though.

One minor point: Sessions recused himself from some things BEFORE Mueller was appointed, so his out-of-bounds territory may be larger than Mueller's scope.

Anyway...when (not if!) Sessions goes after the evil-doers identified by the IG, the Deep State nuclear war on everyone else will truly begin. God only knows what markers will be attempted to be called-in and what skeletons in closets will be revealed.

640 >>One minor point: Sessions recused himself from some things BEFORE Mueller was appointed, so his out-of-bounds territory may be larger than Mueller's scope.

As far as I know the only thing he recused himself from was the investigation into the Trump/Russia collusion claims which resulted in the Mueller investigation. I know some people claimed he had recused himself from other things but I've never seen evidence that this was true. If you do I would love to see it.

And don't forget, in the last couple of weeks Sessions has reopened the Hillary email investigation, the Uranium One investigation and just the other day the Project Casandra/Hezbollah drug running and money laundering investigation that Obama squashed.

If he isn't planning to run real investigations with the potential to charge and prosecute people he has a funny way of going about it.

641 587 I don't know why some people have a hard time with the idea that all Congress can do is investigate, they can't charge anyone with anything, that is the job of the DOJ,

I have no problem w discerning the duties/capabilities of the various arms of government. However, investigating illegalities in the executive branch should be part of Oversight's purview. While Nunes has been busy kicking over rocks and Goodlatte requesting SC for various issues, Gowdy has been denigrating Nunes for talking mean about the FBI and DOJ.

Unfortunately, we have little to no apparent life at DOJ, which is why investigating by Congress is so important. And, just to support my position, Goodlatte asked for a SC in July. He got no response from Sessions that I can find.

You mean accept for reopening the Hillary email investigation, reopening the Uranium One investigation, reopening the Project Casandra investigation, deporting more illegals than ever including numerous MS-13 leaders and importantly some of the leaders, restablishing the rule of law and stopping Obama's war on police, etc., etc.
