My favorite countries are the one s that don't have plumbing that can't handle toilet paper, so you have to wad up the poo covered TP and put it in a little canister next top the toilet. Now when you go to ttake a dump at 4 pm you can imagine the giant pile of poo and fly covered refuse spilling out on to the floor.
Once at the Roman Forum I had to take a dump. I went into the "restroom" and found it was a 15x15 square room with a trough around the edge. and in the middle was a hole in the floor and two tiles by either side that were pressed to be shaped like feet with knobby non skid raised portions. When in Rome I guess. I pinched one off. When I walked out I still wasn't sure if it was a ruin or the tourists bathroom. Those Romans built things to last.
So much winning in those countries.

It is worth noting that the Dominican Republic, which is situated on the other half of the island of Hispaniola, with the same weather, soil, and resources as Haiti, is a very nice place to vacation, clean, no hassle, no hustle. I wonder why that is?

the only person I know who went to help after one of the last really bad ones in Haiti was Sean Penn, because my husband met him during that time. He was there, on the ground, with the first responders helping physically. Put his muscle and time where his mouth was. Volunteers who have gone there, tried to show how to farm, dug the gardens and planted, return to no garden left and ground poisoned with salt and oil. OK! I guess this is some magic hocus pocus voodoo ritual or something, to help the land. I am not sure if growing oily and saltu dirt qualifies.
Then there is the "housing" provided for by the CF. Six or so cabins built and THAT WAS IT. Money then went to CF for effort, which later paid for Chelsea's wedding.
I do hope the national conversation reels in the disaster of the CF, and all the players after that earthquake including Papa Bush...as he had to have known where 90% of the money went. It did not go to the dysentery afterwards, either.
